Lovely setting, afternoon tea was average. Tea not served in china, tea refills not forthcoming. Afternoon tea not explained. Melting cakes. Not value for the price, paying for the location. Very disappointing was anniversary treat.

Me & my friend came down for the evening to stay, the meal was exceptional! To start, we had the bread (this was slightly too crusty for me personally).. the lemon & miso butter was incredible though! We also had olives & chicken satay which were great. The star of the show was the steak with the dauphinois potatoes & port & stilton sauce. This might have been the best thing i’ve ever eaten…. Would 100% recommend this place! Sophie was great & her recommendations were super helpful. The only thing I would say is they should turn the music up slightly to create more of an ambience. we weren’t being that loud but we felt like we were & we felt everyone could hear our conversation as there was not much background noise to drown our giggling out.

We had dinner and this was lovely. The breakfast could have been better. Ordered a fried egg and waited about 40 mins for it. They blamed it on them having a wedding on.

Our experience was disappointing. It was a very hot day and we had to ask to be seated under a parasol rather than in full sun where our table was originally prepared. Although the ladies were polite and friendly the service was rather slow, teas and water was served first, but we waited for about 30 minutes overall for our afternoon tea. When it arrived, it was nicely presented, however the sandwiches or rather the bread was dry which was very embarrassing explaining it to our friends from overseas. But they didn’t want to make a fuss. There were a couple of raised eyebrows and giggles when the young lady serving us referred to our afternoon tea as “normal” as we had a pescatarian among us… just a little but yet important way of recognising that vegetarians and pescatarians are also normal people. 😊

Very underwhelming and very expensive for what you get. It’s a lovely setting, the staff were very friendly and helpful but very understaffed, as sadly most places are. It was Father’s Day and we paid over £100 for 2 starters and 2 main meal with a small glass of wine each. Food was ok, nothing special. Staff change over during meal so no one checked on us, table wasn’t cleared, just very disappointing for the price.

We booked for the 'open table' menu, arrived to a very friendly greeting. Our waitress was efficient, friendly and helpful, the ambience there is wonderful. The food was wonderfully cooked and presented. We were shown a ground floor bedroom after inquiring about such, nothing was too much trouble! Although one niggle was...no toilets available on the ground floor! As it is a listed building we appreciate the problems, but it would be so much better if they were on the ground floor'The handrail at the front steps needs to be either repaired or replaced. Otherwise a most pleasant experience!

Warm welcome, seated quickly and given menu to peruse. My wife does not eat cheese, so ,sadly, a lot of the menu was a no-go. She opted for the steak and I had the salmon. Both were really lovely. The service was first class, staff could not be faulted. My only slight moan is that the tables are very close together and one cannot have a private conversation. Other than that, a most enjoyable experience, enhanced by the first class staff.

Booked in for a late Sunday Lunch…there was a wedding function going on when we arrived so the entrance, bar and little reception area that is by the bar was absolutely rammed with people. We eventually got to reception and made ourselves look different to ‘wedding guests’ and were shown to the restaurant. The restaurant was very clean and tidy, waiting staff were very attentive and the food was stunning. Our only critique would be to somehow separate wedding guests away from general hotel/restaurant guests as it was very overwhelming and we could easily have been stood trying to get someone’s attention for more than the ten minutes that we were.

Had a lovely evening celebrating my husbands birthday with a nice meal. The staff were charming, friendly and attentive. Thank you to Sophie who recommended the special which was delicious. We did have to wait a little time for the food but what's the rush. It was well worth the wait and when you are in good company it's great to have the time to talk between courses. I love Stonehouse Court Hotel and will be visiting again soon. Thank you.

This was a dreadful dining experience. The dining room was totally understaffed (they had a wedding on in another part of the hotel) and a dining room full of very hungry and fed up diners. When the food eventually came (1.5 hours after ordering) three of the meals were cold. Even when heated up again, the dishes were tasteless and poorly cooked. This is an expensive menu so one expects a lot better. The staff were very stressed and did their very best under very difficult circumstances so I don't blame them at all. I have nothing but praise for their attitudes and willingness to help. This is obviously a management problem that goes deep and needs addressing as soon as possible.

Table booked at 7pm, had starter 25 mins later but main course didn’t arrive until 9pm. It was such a shame as the food, when it arrived was delicious. It was due to a function we were told. To be fair they waived our drinks, dessert and service charge which was appreciated. The staff were courteous and attentive and the atmosphere pleasant. I notice from other reviews on trip advisor and trust pilot that this experience is not unique.

A beautiful historic building which has retained its' original features, set in lovely gardens. We called for birthday Sunday lunch after visiting the area for a wedding, and having already eaten a full English breakfast! We therefore only ordered one course. We were greeted on arrival by the dining room staff, who were welcoming and attentive, and shown us through to the stunning oak paneled dining room. One of our party chose a 'ploughman's starter for 2 to share' as a main for 1 - it was perhaps light on variety of meat and cheese, and overly heavy on bread, however it would be unfair to be too critical as it was not intended to be a main course. Others in our party had roast beef Sunday lunch - the beef was served medium rare and was delicious and plentiful. A few more green vegetables would have been nice, however the roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips, and cauliflower mornay were very good. At approximately £30 per head for 1 course including drinks, we thought it was excellent value. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, would recommend, and would dine here again if in the area.

Extremely limited menu for pescatarian’s/vegetarians, the menu consisted of mainly meat options. There was only one fish starter and one fish main option that were both sold out by 7.30pm, even though many more people arrived after us and we heard others asking for the fish too. I did ask if the chef had any other fish dishes available to be told a straight, no. The only other vegetarian option was pumpkin stuffed pasta, which did not appeal, or a margarita pizza which was overpriced and underwhelming, not what I expected from a hotel restaurant. The wine we chose was sold out and no other option suggested. Very poor customer service, the serving staff couldn’t care less and a generally unpleasant and overpriced experience.

Although we had booked days in advance, on arrival we were not given a table in the main restaurant which looked good with a fire going on what was a very chilly evening. We were taken to a table an another large room which was cold, draughty and had a birthday party going on with a large group of people. We have no idea why as there were free tables in the main restaurant. Sat for a bit then decided to go as atmosphere was awful. When we told the waiter we were going, he offered us a table in the restaurant so we decided to stay and give it a try. Food too a very long time coming with diners who had come in after us being served before us. Food was mediocre and not worth the money. The waiter did apologise and offered some reduction of the bill which was good but it is unlikely we will go there again

I have stayed but came with a guest who has not. His thoughts were it similar to mine that it was very quiet but perhaps understandable with Omicron. The steak was good but the Chicken was dry, it needs a sauce. The kidneys were good but the souffle was heavy. For breakfast it was similar to a Travel Lodge type of breakfast, no taste in the sausages, awful looking bacon and sloppy scrambled, no other eggs on offer. Bread for toast had run out and there were no large plates, no top up for tea or coffee. We were looking forward to a short break but Thistles in the borders as we walked back to our room, No 23 and large rose hips outside our window showed a lack of care in the gardens too. Paint splodges on the cables in the bathroom and a poor window sill in our room showed poor general maintenance along with the Ladies toilets at the top of the stairs near the restaurant looking scruffy. What has happened to Stonehouse Court, it used to be the smarter place to go. As we walked back to the car park, grass growing in the paving and borders but a splash of colour as we drove out, at this time of the year the grounds could and should look immaculate as the Lavender had not been trimmed at the correct time, attention to detail or not shows. Very young staff were polite but it lacked atmosphere and some mature staff.

    i) When we arrived we were informed that the hotel had changed the time we had reserved our table (which had been reconfirmed by e-mail only 2 days before ) in order to accommodate another party. This was without any reference to ourselves and they refused to allow us to dine at the time we had booked. (ii) The next day we ordered afternoon scones, a cup of tea and a bottle of water. Despite the fact that there was only one other couple partaking of similar refreshment we had to wait over 1 hour to be served. (iii) When we were served the glass provided was covered in lipstick. (iv) The evening we had to wait at the table over 1 &1/4 hours after our order was taken before we were served. (v) When the meal was eventually served the meal brought for my wife was not what she had ordered i.e a ploughman's. We made this known immediately to the waitress who took it away for investigation only to return some time later to insist it was a ploughman's. It clearly was no such thing. We discovered later it was a Plant Powered Ploughmans which was a totally different meal and was not to my wife's liking. Eventually the waitress agreed to provide some cheese for my wife but by then I had had to eat my steak as it was getting cold so my wife had to eat such cheese after I had finished my meal. Our booking included a £30 allowance per person towards the evening meal but my wife virtually had no meal so was deprived not only of sustenance but also of the £30 which we had effectively paid for her meal. Afterwards we spoke to the person in charge of the restaurant who readily agreed that the meal brought for my wife was not what she had ordered and suggested we speak the next day with someone more senior. This we did the person being Dominic Weager. He accepted all our complaints and was sympathetic but said he could not offer to pay any compensation ( although he thought we had good cause for such) because our contract was with secret escapes who held all the money we paid.

Menu is very small and limited. The chicken with lemon looked like it had been microwaved as the skin was soggy. Mussels for starters were lovely but I’d say I was disappointed overall as this was a birthday treat.
