Courtyard Bar & Kitchen
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant give outstanding views of St George’s Hall and Lime Street Plateau while downstairs in the bar you can choose to drink inside or out on the newly created drinks garden.
Upstairs in the restaurant, our friendly staff bring out generous portions of freshly cooked, locally sourced food in a relaxed setting. The menu is frequently updated to take advantage of seasonal fruit and vegetables so you will have the best food on your plate every time you visit.
The ground floor bar is a relaxed space for people who like great beer and wine. With a mix of local cask ales and the best international drinks brands, there will be plenty to choose from.
Very noisy. Slow service making us have to rush to get to theatre on time. Food was well presented but included some very strong flavours not mentioned on menu, eg coriander on soup which became the dominant flavour. Convenient for theatre but booking an hour and a half before the show was clearly not enough time.
Food was good and service about right but music destroyed any chance to talk or relax.
Pleasant surroundings, attentive service and good food, thoroughly enjoyed it
Fabulous menu bit different and unusual delicious! Service was very good and super efficient thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience !
The food was so tasty, well presented and great price. Not waiting ages for the food, good portions and hot. The restaurant was fairly lively, well lite and a lovely atmosphere. The staff couldn’t have done more, so friendly, helpful and polite. Going back next time we book the theatre.
I would recommend this restaurant for a pre theatre meal, it closes at 8 pm. The staff were pleasant and attentive, the portion size was large, anyone with a healthy appetite will be pleased. The food was also very tasty. I liked the fact that you were brought a bottle of water, from the tap, without having to ask for it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the restaurant, although we always have a drink in the bar after a trip to the Royal Court. We both started with the soup which was tasty. We followed with beautifully cooked chicken in a delicate sauce. However, as we don’t like garlic it’s addition to the mash was not necessary. To finish my husband had a generous cheeseboard and I ate a light cheesecake which I would have appreciated a slightly larger portion of. In general a good experience at a good price - I’m sure we will return.
Booked for my parents so they could have a meal before a show at the royal court
Food was lovely & dad who loves his desserts was too full after his meal to attempt one!
Staff were lovely & friendly & they ensure you are in time for the show
Perfect for a meal before a show the Royal Court & made it a perfect night out fir my parents
we will definitely be booking again.
Pre theatre meal and the food was great, the staff fantastic, the only downside was where we were sat, almost in the passageway to the toilets, and the draft up the stairs was reminiscent of pneumonia alley.
Would definitely go again but not at that table.
I use the Courtyard Bar & Kitchen each tiome Iattend a production at the Royal Court Theatre.
Booking is easy on line with automatic confirmation & reminders with excellent information for those visiting from outside the City.
The menu is good & good value for money & always well cooked. Reviews & changes are made regularly avoiding repetition & boredom
I have recommended them on several occasions & will continue to do so
Service and hospitality good. My food was good and well presented but the other 5 I dined with felt it was average and a little over cooked. Good value meals but very average. Overall I would go again.
The place was empty and the meal was not very good but the serving staff were attentive and friendly.
I attended with my elderly mother in law and she struggled to walk up the stairs, there was no access to a lift or escalators! Also it would have been nice to have more variation on the food and deserts!
We are all senior citizens and most of our party struggled with the stairs. Left us breathless, uncomfortable and embarrassed as we struggled publicly. There was no obvious reference made when booking, how inaccessible it is to many. Spoilt the evening and not a place we will visit again.
Enjoyed the meal made it time for the show as always. Nice, friendly staff
Beautiful setting looking out over City centre. Friendly warm atmosphere inside. Wasnt sure what to expect but food was beautiful - slowed down eating as I didnt want to finish. Had patè to start with crusty bread (plenty of bread for the patè) and chicken roast dinner - absolutely flawless. Fantastic value for money. Next time we go to the Royal Court will definitely go there again.
booked and arrived at 6.30 for a show at 8. Had to wait quite a few minutes to be seated as no staff. Lovely table and water brought straight away. No beer s "pipes being cleaned" - at 6,30 on a busy night?? food took over 30 mins, from. a limited menu. No option for just 1 course so asked if would be able to have desserts before had to leave - told yes. Asked for bill then as in rush. No ne then said you had to pay at bar - and would have had plenty of time to do so as desserts took ages! They were delicious but shame we had to gobble and run. If going to a show - allow 2 hours, very disappointing
Brilliant choice. Great before going to the Royal Court.
Bar staff friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere, not too busy.
Restaurant staff friendly and efficient. Even nipped out to fetch milk for our coffee. Menu varied and had twists to normal fayre . Great value for money.
A wonderful start to our evening at the theatre.
It a good place to go before going to a show a the Royal Court. Good wholesome for , nice atmosphere, pleasant staff. Good service, didn’t have to wait long to get food
Didn’t think I’d find enough for gluten and dairy free but they adapted the menu to help with no issue
Lovely food, very fresh and tasty
Dissapointed that no real ales were available. All main courses were laced with "red berries", which nobody ate. Two of the party had steak pie which was quite tasty, however, chips would have been a nice option, however, just came with a small "blob" of mashed potatoe!
We had the steak pie which delicious there was a good range of starters and puddings. Service was excellent and the restaurant was very clean and had a good atmosphere.
My husband was not fuzzy on his food but I enjoyed mine but not much to pick from
This is a lovely restaurant in a beautiful location. The food is lovely and reasonably priced. However this is the 2nd time I have been and found the service a little slow, which can put you in a panic if you are going into the show. For example we sat for 20 mins without a drink and had to ask twice for our drinks. Then we had to ask twice for our bill. It would not put me off coming again though, i’d Just say Allow lots of time if you are going to the show.
Will not be going back. On arrival we were told our table was at the back and had to find it ourselves, the table wasn’t set, but a table for two nearby was. Service was awful we where tucked in a passage behind the bar and I think the staff had forgotten we were there. We were not offered a desert or drinks. The gents toilets were a disgrace. For the first time ever we never left a tip, which I have to say did bother me as we are very fair people.
Friendly staff, great food in a relaxed environment.
Food was very heavy - had the tart but couldn’t eat it as it was in a heavy pastry that made it unhealthy.
Excellent service great foot window spot to see the works go by an a lovely meal come again
I enjoyed the meal staff were friendly but could have done with a few more staff as was getting near the start of the show but enjoyed the mood
Given that it is a busy time of year we did not have high hopes for the food but did expect a full menu choice & good service. We had also been given very bad & quite good reports from friends who had previously eaten with you so weren’t really expecting much.
There was no cask ale available it was ‘on tap’ we were informed but not available to buy.
There was no seasonal spiced soup ready for the first diners, which we were, at 4.30. Surely with such a limited repetitive menu this should have been ready & available.
The freshly baked french bread with the pate was stale, unappetising & tiny in its portions. Nothing fresh about it.
The server who took our order was miserable - no Christmas cheer or friendly face.
The server who brought the food out literally banged the plates down.
No roasties with Christmas dinner?? What’s that all about??
I wish I could be more positive .........
Pretty poor, thought I'd entered a nightclub from the music style and volume, this hardly created a relaxed ambiance for a pre theatre meal.
The food was pretty poor overcooked chips and undercooked veg.
Service was OK but nothing out of the ordinary.
We have visited a few times, we were unaware that the menu had changed to just a set menu. We loved the sharing platters on previous visits, due to the limited menu choice we will not be returning.
Had white bean bruschetta to start and it was fabulous! Full of flavour and really well presented. Cod and chips for main, I think the fish had been left for a bit as it wasn’t very hot, but the chips were so good and well seasoned.
Staff were excellent and really friendly.
Don’t be put off by the bar downstairs where you come in, it’s not a looker but upstairs is good. I’d definitely book again.
We had the pre-theatre menu and the food was mediocre and poorly presented. The bread with the pate was very dry and the Courtyard Christmas Dinner was like school dinners. Service was OK and ambiance was OK.
4 of us went for a pre theatre meal on 15/12/19 and we all enjoyed the food. Service was good without being intrusive, was a little too noisy but understandable at this time of year.
Would defo go back
Always go here when we visit the Royal Court, food is always good and the staff are very friendly
Visited The Courtyard Bar and Kitchen for a pre theatre meal . Friendly staff and great food. Will definitely return.
Waiting staff really friendly, helpful and attentive. Starter (parsnip soup) was excellent, main course (pulled pork burger) was a bit of a let down after expectations raised by starter; it was a bit dry and limited sauces. The dessert (mince torte) had great flavour but could have done with some cream.
