Courtyard Bar & Kitchen
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant give outstanding views of St George’s Hall and Lime Street Plateau while downstairs in the bar you can choose to drink inside or out on the newly created drinks garden.
Upstairs in the restaurant, our friendly staff bring out generous portions of freshly cooked, locally sourced food in a relaxed setting. The menu is frequently updated to take advantage of seasonal fruit and vegetables so you will have the best food on your plate every time you visit.
The ground floor bar is a relaxed space for people who like great beer and wine. With a mix of local cask ales and the best international drinks brands, there will be plenty to choose from.
I have been eating at The Courtyard since it opened and it’s always been my restaurant of first choice when going to the theatre but, unfortunately, I’m having a rethink. We had the pre theatre set menu on Friday and, although it appeared to good value for money, several of the dishes were not particularly appetising. The fish dish was good and enjoyed by my friend but the chicken kiev and katsu chicken curry were disappointing and not as expected. We had the harvest cake and mousse for desert and again were disappointed by the taste and texture, although the appearance of both dishes was good. All our drinks tasted good and were of good value. We didn’t complain because there was nothing wrong with the food it just wasn’t up to the usual standard. I think that this is yet another new menu but it is definitely not an improvement on the original menu. I would be reluctant to bring visitors to The Courtyard at the moment until there is a rethink. Very sad to have to write this unsupportive review. Sorry.
Service was Outstanding!!! Soup was too heavy peepers rock hard!! The noodles was far too salty the noodles was drowned in soy sauce ( inedible)!!! cheese board massive blocks of cheese not enough crackers 😔I was so disappointed but you don’t know if you don’t try but I won’t be going back in a hurry👎sorry 😐
Lovely no fuss meals.. good value for money food and drink wise..nice and modern
My friend and I had a meal there prior to going to The Royal Court Theatre next door, so we chose off the pre-theatre menu. Last time I went I had the fish and chips and to be truthful, I found the menu a bit limited, so had fish and chips again. My friend had them this time too and she was disappointed with hers as she thought the batter was soggy. Mine was lovely. It was busier this time too and we found that if we wanted anything we had to really make the staff notice us, so the service wasn't quite as we expected. To be honest, when we go to the theatre again we may go to another restaurant due to the lack of choice on that particular menu.
1st visit and wow everything from start to finish amazing
Very pleasant dining experience. Menu quite limited but understandable due to how busy the restaurant became over the course of the evening.
On the positive side the servings are very generous. The amount on the plate and the presentation is very “agricultural “. Can’t complain about the food though - it’s plain but well cooked. Ideal location for the theatre and reasonable value. They are very busy pre-theatre so expect to wait for your food.
Food was extremely cold and the service was poor. The menu was limited.
Food is a little disappointing. Feels like pre prepared and limited choice although salad elements were fresh and tasty. Bread with soup was rock hard. Staff dealt with that well and apologised. Reasonable price for pre theatre and great view of St Georges Hall.
We had not visited the Courtyard Bar before and decided to give it a go before a night at the theatre, we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and happily discussed the menu, suggesting dishes when we could not decide. The choice catered for all tastes and the Teriyaki Salmon withe prawns and noodles comes highly recommended. My husband enjoyed his pulled lamb burger and the prosecco and blackcurrant cheesecake should not be missed. Our request for ice cream with the desserts looked like another dessert. 3 scoops of ice cream decorated with strawberries, raspberries and topped with strawberry sauce went down very well. We will certainly be back and highly recommend that you try it.
Was very disappointed with the menu not much variety we asked for ice cream dessert had none all though it was on the menu then we asked for Irish coffee not cream or whipped cream. I will not be going again that is for sure and will never recommend it the royal court which we go to often there menu is very good more variety
We went for pre dinner show. Food was great and the service was fast and polite.
Lovely friendly staff. Food was delicious and great price.
Three of four meals were ok. Fourth meal the chips were cold and were replaced 10 mins later. 2 chosen desserts were not available so cheesecake for 4 of us but that was still frozen and so we complained and it was removed from bill. Staff were very good overall, but we would not return there as it wasn’t a great start to our theatre trip.
Found the food beautiful and very well presented
The staff were wonderful very good attention to detail
The menu was limited and most of the menu was unavailable, also, there was only one staff available. She did give amazing service, even under pressure.
Nice place and friendly staff. Disappointed in the overall service as two of the choices on what was a limited pre theatre menu anyway had ‘run out’ and neither of us could have what we wanted.
That said the waiting staff were very attentive at what was a very busy time in the restaurant.
College reunion weekend, pre theatre dinner before Motown the Musical. Lovely relaxing atmosphere with tasty food and brilliant outlook over the theatre, would definitely recommend.
The restaurant was empty which I thought strange for a Saturday afternoon, the menu choice was very limited then we were told one of those choices was not available. My friend asked for a cup of tea and was told only herbal tea was available then asked for a coffee with cream but was told no cream available. Two of us ordered the chicken kievs which was extremely dry and no sauce inside it and very small fillet of chicken a plate full of fries. I never send food back because I know what happens to complainers food when sent back. I will never visit again.
Nice food. reasonable price and good service. Highly recommeended
Lovely food upstairs had drinks in garden music way too loud difficult to have conversation had to shout
Lovely food and even better staff looking forward to next visit
Even though it’s a new restaurant and bar it didn’t feel like it as the food and service was excellent.
I would defend recommend to my family and friends, particularly as it’s also close to the central bars etc...
Lovely start to a Saturday out at the theatre. Food was excellent-we ate upstairs in the restaurant-too much to finish and we were very well looked after. Highly recommend.
Great priced pre theatre menu, reasonably priced drinks, great view from table.
Portion sizes really good, the cheeseboard in particular!
The air conditioning was a bit chilly, but I suppose that is a sit subjective to where your sat!
We’ll visit again.
Overall my experience was very good and in particular I would like to mention Holly our waitress who was absolutely lovely. She had a great personality and knew the menu to give advice if asked. The experience wasn't excellent due to the lack of dessert options available, which for a Friday teatime we all though a little short-sighted. Several times we had to change our option due to it running out. We did eventually settle on an option that thankfully was available and delicious. I would recommend Courtyard and would indeed visit myself again.
Standard of food has gone from very good to very poor. Chips used to be real potato & chunky but are now like cheap quality frozen and the batter on the cod used to be thin & very crispy (delicious) but now is thick & soggy. Rest of menu is uninteresting, particularly the starters, teryaki salmon was mono-flavoured.
Definitley would not visit again, it spoiled a good night at the theatre.
Great location to grab a meal before a show at the Royal Court theatre.
I booked this pre-theatre for my parents. They said the food was fabulous and the staff really friendly and nothing was too much trouble
We ofter attend most of the Shows at the Royal Court, this was the first time We visited the The Courtyard, Excellent Food and service, Will be going back for another visit.
Worse meal ever. Smoked salmon starter was swimming in oil and the lamb koftas soaked in vinegar was disgusting
Good quick enjoyable pre Théâtre meal.
We had the basil and feta salad and the teriyaki salmon with noodles.
Amazing place, evening out with the girlfriend, decided to go here before the theatre, booked a table in advance (recommended to do so) food was amazing, very well presented and great value.
I was a bit disappointed as I had expected better standards than those provided.
Litter outside the entrance, the music provided was good but far too loud in a restaurant environment.
The meal was ok except for the cous-cous which was in solid clumps.
The ambience felt like a canteen more than a restaurant.
To be fair, my wife enjoyed her salmon and noodle dish.
Great food the staff made us feel welcome will be back
We ordered a curry, which was far too much in proportion. The chicken was cut into very large dry chunks and the curry, though tasty, was more of a paste. No sour cream or yoghurt added. The rice had been cooked in unsalted water. Three of us could not eat much of this dish. We were there for over two hours and the restaurant was virtually deserted. Only two other couples there at that time and they left as soon as they had eaten. The service was good and sympathetic but one wonders why the venue was so unpopular? I had the impression that perhaps there was no chef overlooking what could have been a tasty meal.
Convenient for a meal before the theatre. Timing was excellent and I was beforehand to make sure we had enough time to eat before the show. Two of us had the cod which was cooked just right, although the fries must have been the last of the batch. The other person dining with us had the chicken and they found that rather dry. Having said that, it was very busy.
Really enjoy the courtyard, booked it because we were watching a show at the royal court so was really handy, the service was really quick & pleasant, the food was different from other places I've been too, very tasty & good value, liked the feel of the place with the big windows was almost like you were outside, overall a really enjoyable experience
Been a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it but disappointed this time. Menu & food was not as good and very limited menu choices and service was not as good this time. We arrived 1 3/4 hour before theatre for pre theatre menu and never had time for 3 courses.
The location and ambiance though is still brilliant!
Very helpful staff - good food before a show
