Courtyard Bar & Kitchen
The floor-to-ceiling windows in the restaurant give outstanding views of St George’s Hall and Lime Street Plateau while downstairs in the bar you can choose to drink inside or out on the newly created drinks garden.
Upstairs in the restaurant, our friendly staff bring out generous portions of freshly cooked, locally sourced food in a relaxed setting. The menu is frequently updated to take advantage of seasonal fruit and vegetables so you will have the best food on your plate every time you visit.
The ground floor bar is a relaxed space for people who like great beer and wine. With a mix of local cask ales and the best international drinks brands, there will be plenty to choose from.
Booked last minute for pre-theatre meal. We weren’t sure what to expect as we are not local to Liverpool. The staff were friendly & helpful, attentive without being overly so. We both had 3 courses, all of which were very good. The only slight negative was I ordered the sea bass or my main. Our server said that the sea bass might be hake as she wasn’t sure if the sea bass was still available. I did get the sea bass but only one small fillet, (I think a portion would normally be two fillets). Other than this, all the food was well prepared and very enjoyable. The pre- theatre menu at £16 for 2 courses or £20 for three is good value for money. If we find ourselves in Liverpool again we will definitely book here again.
This is a friendly restaurant with good views over St. George’s Hall. The food is always fresh and there is always a good choice of plant based meals. The fish was hake which was was wonderful, it came with mash but the lovely staff said we could change that to chips if we wanted. Lovely vegan platter of Samoa’s, asparagus and wrap, yummy. The service is alway lovely and efficient. Give this restaurant a try you will enjoy if you like good reasonable food
Grreat position near the station nice menu, small but something for everyone.
Wouldn't recommend. Burger was uncooked and curry was cold in parts/warm in others. Clearly microwaved. We had to continually prompt staff who seemed more interested in chatting to each other as it wasnt busy so know excuse! Toilets stank so we went elsewhere to go! Not good!
Excellent spot for a pre- Royal Court theatre evening and food was pretty good too! Fully recommended
Great food and service( although our desert was forgotten!) Fab views. Only complaint..... it was very cold! Put the heating on.
I live the relaxed feel of the Courtyard, this was my first time here and we’ve booked again for another pre-theatre meal. Food was lovely and very good value for the money. Staff were very friendly and helpful. 5*
Good food good service great views of St George’s Hall close to theatres good value thank you
Been several times now, always have a lovely meal here. I would highly recommend this place.
Food was good, but had to keep calling staff over for attention. The entrance to the building was quite grubby with a lot of cigarette butts on the floor, staff also smoking outside, thankfully the interior was better. A little off putting as we had friends with us who don’t often visit Liverpool.
Good food and helpful staff menu could do with more choice not the best meal I've had
Excellent value menu - perfect before theatre and very convenient for Empire and Everyman. Friendly and efficient service. All 5 of us enjoyed our meal. Not a huge choice but good variety of dishes. Gin and tonics well prepared! Thanks Courtyard- we will return.
The food was very good but desserts were lacking choice, for someone who doesn’t eat cheese, but it wouldn’t stop me from going again.
Looked at the menus before we arrived. Although the choices are very limited, me my wife and daughter chose the same starter. That was pulled ham hock & rarebit croquettes.
Arrived for a 6pm sitting and was told that this starter had sold out!!!! At 6pm!!!!!
Disappointed with the other small choices not appealing to any of us
Booked for a pre theatre meal, first time visit. Friendly welcome from bar staff and directed upstairs. Shown to a window table with a fantastic side view of St George’s Hall. Staff very attentive and friendly, great food, good choice. Reasonably priced wine. Fast service, food hot, well presented. I will certainly consider using this venue in future.
brilliant for pre show meal at the royal court. Staff & food are lovely . As it was my dads birthday he got a surprise free drink. Thankyou for making his birthday special
The Courtyard Bar meal was lovely, the service was great.
As always the food was great & the service too. The only criticism hat I have it that it was cold upstairs which spoiled the evening a little. I will still go back as food is great!
Limited menu but was impressed with what was available. Excellent staff. Friendly & helpful.
Huge portions at a great price and all set in a great atmosphere, top notch from start to finish
Very attentive staff who served beautiful food. Great value for the money. Will definitely be going back. Thank you
The food really was excellent and the service too.
We had the chicken pie and the cod and chips ..we agreed best pie we’ve tasted ,the pastry was so light and the couple with us loved the cod.
Friendly atmosphere friendly staff very attentive and location perfect for the theatres ,we will definitely book again
Eating before going to a show at The Royal Court 'cos we were too late booking an eating ticket. This is such a great supporting act, the food is excellent, service is superb, very attentive staff.
The fish and chips were huge, well presented and very tasty, lentil marsala was also excellent with perfect naan.
A bonus were the cocktails, great barman who knew his stuff, I recommend this experience to all.
Really enjoyable meal with helpful and friendly staff. Music level is low upstairs and quite acceptable .
Down Stairs much louder
Very convenient for Empire, Royal Court or Playhouse theatres
Went to courtyard after a friend recommended it. We needed somewhere close to world museum as we were attending an event there. Booked a table early as event started early evening. Few people having drinks downstairs, quickly shown to our table. No one else was eating but it was early! Food arrived quickly and was delicious and beautifully presented- especially the salad with my sea bass. Good value £16 for two courses x
What a little gem of a place, the food was fabulous I’m thinking of coming back for the caramel apple trifle alone. Will definitely return amazing value for money and just enough choice without being overwhelmed
Would have had top marks however had to wait over 30 minutes for our main course which had clearly been forgotten. In fairness they did apologise and provide a courtesy drink but I would have liked my main course on time.
Food was excellent and of good quality so all in all will definitely go back.
Everything good food ,service first time we’ve been able to get a table here usually booked up now I understand why well worth the wait and good value for money
The Courtyard is well placed for local theatres. On the night we visited everyone, including ourselves seemed to be headed for the Empire Theatre and it was very busy. The menu wasn't huge but there was a good range of options-including vegan and vegetarian. The quality of the food was very good and it was priced to attract the pre-theatre crowd. The service was also very good and they were obviously aware that this was a pre-theatre crowd. What was really pleasing was that our waitress came and offered us free drinks and apologised for the delay between the starter and main course which we hadn't even noticed. Top marks for this as it is rare to get this standard of customer service these days.
The views are wonderful and I have already recommended this to family who are making a theatre trip to L'Pool in the near future.
We have been to the Courtyard a few times now and always have a great time. Food delicious and good value. Staff friendly and efficient.
Very quiet,Friday night but it was January! ,given bill as it closed by 10pm
Lovely atmosphere and good food and wonderful service too.
We both ordered the spring vegetable soup expecting a light bowl of vegetables and broth but found it to be a heavy bowl of beans laced with too much garlic, so much so that my husband suffered a reaction. Likewise, the lamb stew was full of pearl barley making it too filling. A larger proportion of vegetables would have been appreciated.
The staff here are so friendly and professional nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious I particularly enjoyed my main meal the red lentil masala and the portion sizes were great. The view is lovely St George's Hall all lit up Liverpool at it's best.
The food was very tasty & reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly & attentive. The setting is really nice with excellent views of St George’s Hall etc. Will definitely visit again.
Very noisy. Slow service making us have to rush to get to theatre on time. Food was well presented but included some very strong flavours not mentioned on menu, eg coriander on soup which became the dominant flavour. Convenient for theatre but booking an hour and a half before the show was clearly not enough time.
Special Date with my hubby, staff were friendly and attentive, service was so quick, but we were booked in early, so wasn’t very busy, plus for us. Food was delicious. Would definitely go back.
Food was good and service about right but music destroyed any chance to talk or relax.
Pleasant surroundings, attentive service and good food, thoroughly enjoyed it
Fabulous menu bit different and unusual delicious! Service was very good and super efficient thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience !
