I was expecting a decent setting for my friend’s birthday. The pictures on open table were misleading otherwise I would have never planned the dinner there. It’s more like a street taco shop setting. We were disappointed at the first impression. I could see the same impression on the faces of other people that came after us and asked for their reservation. Service was good. Food quality and taste was not bad but nothing to write home about. I am amazed at other write ups and doubt their authenticity.

All out door sitting here means sitting in the cold with a very inefficient heater and a lot of street noise for four people expecting a semi casual dinner in Del Mar.

We tried their Pisco Sour, Ground beef HOMEMADE EMPANADA, HOUSE salad, SQUID INK RISOTTO, MACHO
FISH SUDADO, Cuatro Leches Cake, and the Lucuma Flan. The only dish we liked was the squid ink risotto! All in all I was expecting more for $80 per person!

Such places have a high rent and need to raise prices to make do and I have no problem with that. However their advertising pictures and reviews needs to be more realistic.

We had a delicious late lunch in this lovely gem of Del Mar! We were celebrating the birthday of one of our sons with his wife and little baby girl and had a wonderful time! The food was amazing and we enjoyed the different spices that they give more or less according to individual taste! Great Exotic food! The brothers had sent a wonderful Prosecco bottle that was waiting for us in ice...we had the best table of the restaurant. We recommended without a doubt...you will find native exotic food from Peru that is exquisite and tempting to your taste!

Great customer service! The food was good but lacked the robust Peruvian flavors I was expecting to taste. But with so few options for Peruvian food throughout SD county this place is as good as it gets. The steak they use for the Lomo is perfect. The Ceviche was a good choice, as well as the Causa de pollo. Wish they still had the Aji de Gallina! I recommend the Seco, but hope one day they make it with beef.

A bit disappointed with the food this time.
Classic ceviche was very good, lomo saltado and yuquitas were good, empanada was nothing especial and the causa was disappointing (used to be excellent).
Service was very good.

I personally thought it was overpriced. I thought the area and atmosphere was nice; however, $11 for a beer is a little ridiculous if you ask me. The waiter was nice and very attentive. The food did not taste of authentic Peruvian flavor. I am Peruvian my self so I know what the texture and taste should taste like. They give you small potions of rice and big pieces of fries and steak for the lomo saltado. Those slices should be sliced thin instead. The entrees were overpriced as well, and not all that great. It was enough for me to say I got to come here once and the area was nice looking. I did have higher expectations for this restaurant. My almost $200 bill was not worth it.

The food is excellent, authentic Peruvian with Asian fusion. Wine list acceptable. Tried all the seafood plates and salads. Didn’t try the meat plates but they looked very good. Deserts: tried the tres leches and the Lucuma flan. Both were good. Servers are good but not enough of them. Evening hostess was awful.

We ordered the lomo saltado and ceviche. It was absolutely delicious. We also asked for no onions and they were able to accommodate us. Not to mention the delicious sangria. Love the garden feel. Loved the experience, service and food!

Coya Peruvian Secret. Cozy patio and street side dining in Old Del Mar. Interesting menu of Peruvian classics. We shared the Ceviche Mixto (fish of the day, scallops, shrimp, a single mussel), served in a large flat bowl, enough for two, and a good value at $21 but it was a little too spicy and citrusy for our tastes. The ground beef empanada, a good starter at $11, came with three sauces on the side. We tried the Lomo Saltado, $24, ostensibly filet mignon cooked with red onions, tomatoes, soy sauce and ginger, with garlic rice and fries. Our three chunks of beef were dry and didn’t quite seem like filet. Excellent service by our waiter (“Ezau” on the receipt but I think he said “Lucas”), a university grad from Spain with flawless English who knew the menu well. Short but interesting wine list, imports, and domestics. Corkage, $20.

Lamb and pork belly dishes were great! Service was good. Patio seating - ground was dirty, table was very sticky, menu paper got stuck on it. Menu font was very tiny, very difficult to read.

Authentic. Delicious. Unique.

As someone who lived for an extended period of time in Perú, I would say this is most classic representation of Peruvian cuisine I’ve experienced in the United States. While the food was not inexpensive, it could be considered a value. The execution was close to perfect. The only dish they could have used any improvement was a lamb stew, which may have been cooked a tad too long. They incorporate traditional ingredients into their dishes that are imported from Peru and difficult to find in the America market.

The space is cozy and quirky - the seating area is mostly in a patio space out front of the restaurant decorated with colorful Christmas lights. We sat on a back patio which is a joined to a boutique hotel. The service was attentive and cordial, we had a nice chat with the owner Maria and discussed Peruvian cuisine. Upon finishing our conversation it was clear how legit this place is.

Coya is does not sit amongst the trendy, over-hyped restaurants of the Delmar Plaza to the north - this is a good thing. As a person who has spent time in the country of the cuisine, and also an extensive period of time in the restaurant business (as had my guest), I can definitively say this is one of the most interesting restaurants in the area.

The food had good flavor, but arrived cold. We had a large party and the service was extremely slow. Unfortunately we only saw one server, so perhaps a victim of COVID and the difficulty of getting jobs filled. I will try again as I feel it had really great potential with the right staff.

This has been my favorite neighborhood restaurant for years.
Try the ravioli with green sauce- I usually can't make myself order anything else.
Beef ribs were a little dry (but the sauce was wonderful). They took the ribs off the check!
Only improvement I'd suggest is to warm the plates (but they'll do it if you ask).
The very first place that any out-of-town visitors want to go.

We enjoyed the meal - ceviche, lomo saltado and fish of day were excellent as was the flan. The pisco sour, a must. Maria was a delight but was covering the entire restaurant, a bit much for one server. Outdoor seating on sidewalk - little ambiance and some noise. We’ll be back often.
