Monday night diner this week. Restaurant wasnt busy but there were enough customers to create a nice buzz. Having been stuck without restaurants for so long it's nice to see people out and about, especially early in the week.
Ok,firstly,we had a nice time. Ambience was good, service was fine and perfectly adequate for the style of restaurant. Food was great. We shared a beef rib, brisket burnt ends, fries and some wings (which oddly aren't available as a separate dish on the menu, only as part of the sharing platter, but we asked if it were possible to add them to our beef fest and the happily obliged).
The rib was fall off the bone but still moist. Burnt ends came with a mild blue cheese dip which was very pleasant too and helped cut through the meatiness. Fries were nicely seasoned and wings were nicely spiced.
A nice time spent with good company in a nice atmosphere eating nice food.
Not 5 stars but only because there's always room for improvement, no other definitive or negative reasons.
I'd go back.
Food was scrummy as always and the service was very good. Me and my girlfriend had a lovely meal 😊
Amazing food and service! Would definitely come again :)
If you love craft beer and you love BBQ’d to perfection meat. Give it a go.
Went for family dinner, was pricy as everything you ordered didn’t come as a meal you had to order sides separately so 1 meal with two side(fries and veg) easily comes £30. 3 dessert options vey limited. Girl cleaning our table asked us to give her our plates!! If I wanted to tidy up I would of stayed at home and saved £200 Unfortunately wouldn’t return.
We've been here once before, approx 2 yrs ago & thought it was good. This time we took friends and were embarrassed by the service. The food is really expensive but for quality we don't normally mind. However, for the portion sizes last night the cost was extortionate. You have to buy and sides e.g. fries, as extra for another £5 (bowl of). One waitress was uncomfortably rude and when we politely asked for the second time if she could bring a side that we'd ordered she sighed....and we never got it. Getting service was like pulling teeth to be honest. We had ribs (1 large rib was a main course), small tray of burnt ends (swimming in bbq sauce, great if you like that), a chicken burger, small tray of pulled pork (swimming in bbq sauce again), 2 portions of fries and a very pleasant mac n cheese, couple of drinks each for 4 of us which came to just under £150. There are better venues in St Albans so I would recommend you try an alternative.
Excellent food, quickly served by a very attentive team
Went here for my partner's birthday and our whole experience was outstanding! The staff were incredibly friendly and efficient, and the food was exceptional. The prices here are slightly higher than your usual restaurant chains, but that is reflected in the quality of the food and the service you receive. A particular shout out to the lady who we assume was the manager, she was incredible and even gave my other half a little extra something for his birthday, which was gratefully received!
Always have good food and it's always a good value
Lovely lunch in a beautiful garden. Food was excellent and choice of drinks very good. Will go back if in St Albans again.
Great food, staff very friendly and nice gaff , well worth a visit
Excellent food and service. Would recommend when visiting St Albans
The Feast for 2 was soo amazing!
Perfect service, friendly, attentive, informed and efficient. Great Caesar salad - chicken and dressing outstanding. Amazing crispy squid, burnt ends to die for! Amazing for BBQ enthusiasts. Huge range of drinks and a great atmosphere
Great food, attentive staff, quality all round. Would Def come back.
Superb in everything we had and an awesome experience overall.
Fab drinks selection, even more fabulous food and brilliant staff!!
& an added touch with a little visitor
Would always highly recommend! :-)
Went for my anniversary, the food was amazing, the service was outstanding. This is my favourite restaurant and every time I come I am never disappointed! Would recommend !!
Even though they were short of staff our waitress was excellent.
Cheerful, helpful and had a sense of humour.
Due to the staff shortage one of the chefs helped served the food. He did this with a smile on his face.
Fantastic informal bbq
Pleasant but not stunning. Wouldn’t not eat there again but don’t have an urge to rush back either
We used to like Craft and Clever, the menu had a great choice, plenty of craft beers to choose from.
Unfortunately the menu is limited, not much to choose, limited craft beer.
The food is quality.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Highly recommend this place.
Amazing food, amazing drinks and a lovely vibe. I come here often and the service is always 10/10
Great food & even took what we didn't eat home which was a lovely bonus!
Cocktails were delicious as well, would highly recommend
Great food and cocktails. Was for a birthday party of 8 people so was really good how well the staff worked our table, very helpful and spot on with service.
Always great food and beers, and service is normally fine, but did seem they might have been a bit short on staff like many other industries at this point in COVID. That said, the staff there were working very hard and the food was same great standard as always. Last thing, the place is always buzzing and loud, with both music and chatter, so not always a relaxing place to eat if you are expecting a romantic or conversational meal, but if you are looking for a place for some fun and loud banter in a group, this is your place.
Amazing place, great beer, food and service! Will definitely return.
We went here for my birthday meal and it was by far the best choice. The food was incredible, real top notch meat and the taste was insane. Officially my favorite bbq restaurant as of now. Its a shame they didn't have the full menu available but still a decent amount of choice. Believe me I will be back for a second round.
It was quiet being mid week lunchtime, staff were friendly without being too pushy.
Excellent food. Starter could have been a little warmer but was incredible. The main course was excellent. Service was excellent. I knocked one star off for value which I now regret because I’d rather this quality than compromise so assume five stars for everything! Already planning my return!
Visited Craft & Cleaver for a family meal. Great service and the food was very good, as usual. Portion sizes are generous too.
It was our first time at Craft & Clever, and we are not locals so made a specific trip to east there - we were not disappointed!
As a group of 5 we shared some starters, because we didn’t want to get too full but wanted to try them!
Calamari was the group favourite, the corn & halloumi fritters were a surprise success, we also had the jerk pork belly - which was also excellent but couldn’t really taste the jerk flavour at all.
For mains we ordered 2 sharing platters, an extra burnt ends & several sides, to make sure we were waddling out the restaurant with leftovers!
All the platter meats were excellent. The ribs were a huge hit, the burnt ends were superb.
It is unusual to not see brisket on the menu at a bbq restaurant and this would be my one piece of very minor feedback. It appears you can preorder a whole one for your group (looking at Instagram) but not sure where all the brisket goes that makes the burnt ends?!
The staff were welcoming and genuinely seemed to love working there.
There’s a great selection of beers and We will definitely return!
This is a great restaurant with top quality bbq, a decent selection of beers on draft.
I look forward to my next visit!!!!!
Shame about the obnoxious table next to us who felt the need to shout all night - but enjoyed the food!’
Food was amazing, only thing I wasn’t overly happy with was the dessert was a bit rubbish so that could do with improving, apart from that the rest was all good
The food is good. We found that the taste of most meet is very similar due to similar marinates. Service could be better, more friendly and more attentive.
Very nice and lovely environment. Food was delicious and drinks were yummy. Only downside was the service was a bit slow and I had to ask for my bill 3 times and was forgotten about till I went to the bar to ask for it in person. And it wasn’t that busy. That’s just needs improving. But overall very nice restaurant
Food was great. Think they must have new chef. Jerk pork for starter and pineapple salsa increiblr
Best burgers we’ve ever eaten
The menu is excellent for meat eaters and we both enjoyed what we chose. We considered all the drinks prices to be on the high side. We will return but would choose to dine in the garden next time, when I called to ask if it was covered I was told it wasn't so we booked to eat inside but I would guess c50% of the garden IS covered.
