I booked lunch here so my friends & I could cycle to the restaurant safely from Blunsdon and enjoy a catch up after the lockdowns of the last 18 months. We were very happy with The Cricklade House Hotel, the food was great, the ambiance was lovely and we were able to talk together very comfortably . The views are wonderful over the Wiltshire countryside.
We went for the afternoon tea with Prosecco hour. The hotel was very busy with a wedding and birthday party but the staff were still attentive and friendly. The afternoon tea was standard but good and the unlimited Prosecco was generous. Would return.
Only one problem the A La Carte menus advertised on the hotel website was not available due do staff shortages
Whilst a reduced menu was available choice very limited
Lovely afternoon tea. Disappointed that staff member thought scraping the head off a pint with a dirty pen was acceptable but duty manager sorted it out and new pint provided.
Lovely staff, excellent service. Small choice of food, but very tasty.
Great service throughout our visit, the restaurant had a great relaxing atmosphere and food was really great and not long to wait.
The hotel overall has such a great welcoming feel and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The place was absolutely lovely. Staff friendly but super busy due to a wedding.
Main issue was that the scones were just not cooked. For me that is the most important part of the afternoon tea. Was difficult to get staff members attention and in the end we didnt worry about complaining on the day.
The bar and restaurant staff at Cricklade House are so helpful, professional and friendly. They remind us how much we have all missed the hospitality business and the pleasure of dining or having a drink with friends in beautiful surroundings. Good for the soul and the yummy sandwiches are excellent and great value (try the chocolate brownie yum!)😁
Lovely afternoon tea for our anniversary. Sat in the conservatory with great views. Friendly staff and enjoyable experience. The food was delicious.
Helpful, polite and attentive staff. Mix up with our order, corrected within minutes and no fuss. Lovely surroundings and views. Lovely Sunday Roast for a very average price.
After getting married at cricklade house 5 years ago, we went back for lunch and was shocked at how much this once amazing venue has changed. Food was below average, the staff were untrained and very unhelpful, the tables were dirty & the whole place looked tired and tatty. It’s a big shame as we once loved cricklade house, but we won’t be returning again.
Worst service I have ever encountered. Nobody knows what is going on. It’s like a comedy of errors on almost every level. I say almost as the kitchen actually know what they are doing. The food is good! Just a shame that the front of house haven’t trained their staff. Too slow to take drinks orders, wrong drinks, forgotten meals, apologies galore. Apologies mean nothing if you don’t sort things out.
Really enjoyable great table service will be back and would recommend.
We had the Prosecco afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. Food was delicious, tea and Prosecco lovely. We sat on the terrace and took in the amazing view.
An absolute favourite place of mine to spend a few hours drinking or dining while taking in the beautiful view across the fields and enjoying the stunning decor and vibe of the lounge, conservatory and terrace.
Menu same every day
But also had choice from bar menu
Food overall very nice
Staff were lovely
Very lovely atmosphere and friendly staff accommodated every need of ours. Sat in the conservatory for our lunch then were able to sit outside to enjoy a drink.
Very much enjoyed our lunch.
Made to feel so welcome, friendly helpful staff.
Good covid measures in place.
Plenty of space.
Food choices simple, good quality and tasty.
Look forward to going again
The afternoon tea was good and certainly plentiful!! Scones were a bit hard / overcooked. Unlimited tea and coffee, however we kept having to go and find somebody when we wanted a refill - hence 3/5 for service.
This was our first visit and we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous - best broccoli I have eaten in decades! My husband and I chose different wines and both were delicious. The table service was attentive and friendly with little touches such as bread rolls while we were waiting for our order to come and a bottle of water brought to the table.
Where we were sitting in the restaurant was an extremely well executed addition to the original building which made an elegant and relaxing contribution to the general ambience of the space.
All in all a most enjoyable and tasty experience which we hope to repeat in the not too distant future.
Friendly, helpful staff. We were upgraded to a larger room when we arrived, which was a nice surprise.
We arrived in torrential rain which didn't stop all weekend, so we sadly didn't get the chance to explore the grounds.
The hotel was tastefully decorated, with comfy beds and good pillows (very important!)
The food was delicious (but pricey) and the bar was well stocked.
The one let down was that, even though there was a large sign at the entrance announcing the new spa being open, when we got to the spa, we were told that only the gym was available and the pool/jacuzzi etc weren't open yet..
I would definitely return, but preferably when the sun is shining and the spa is complete!
Fantastic service wonderful views and lovely presentation of Our afternoon tea
My partner and I decided to have a Christmas lunch as we live local and had a lovely meal. It's a fabulous venue with a beautiful conservatory. As with all hotels and restaurants these days it's run on minimal staff and this would be my only negative comment. A place like this needs a front of house person to meet and greet, offering a welcome, drinks, where you'd like to sit, etc.
Someone that creates an atmosphere, that's what's missing in my opinion..
Lovely afternoon tea in a beautiful location. We were seated in the conservatory with a great view across the grounds. Staff were friendly and service was prompt and relaxed.
I would recommend to a friend on the hope someone might enjoy , but I traveled quite a distance to be let down , sandwiches were wet and listed one time and arrived at the table as a completely different sandwich. Cakes were hard and scones were crusty and dry cream tasted sour. Husband ordered a burger and was told they have no mayo when the chef came to talk to us he apologised and he said it was a ridiculous thing to say as they are a working kitchen.. overall was fair as we didn’t have to pay for afternoon tea only the burger . Hope to visit again and have a nice time :) p.s chef was very understanding and friendly
The waitress was very attentive and friendly and the restaurant had a lovely environment with great views.
We were the only people having lunch there last Sunday which rather affected the atmosphere, but we enjoyed our time there and would go again.
We had Sunday lunch celebrating a birthday and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Choice of 2 or 3 courses which were really good.
We booked an afternoon tea to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. We were married at this hotel last September and had a lovely experience so wanted to go back.
It was several minutes before anyone attended to us in the restaurant/bar area. We had a lovely table reserved for us with the view of the conservatory and grounds, but was not the most ideal as it was very low and I am heavily pregnant. The afternoon tea had a good variety but the bread was a little dry in places. Good selection of teas. Once seated our food was prompt but had to get up and try and find the staff to order another round of drinks. Overall we would come back again as it holds a special memory for us, but service was slacking especially as it was only ourselves and one other table in use.
The only disappointment was the sandwiches for the non meat eaters possibly down to a misunderstanding - we had only said we did not want the ham but in the event were not given smoked salmon or egg which meant there was rather a lot of cheese.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, very nice food, good value and very friendly service. The views from the conservatory and bar are wonderful. Will definitely eat here again
Entrance doors to hotel could benefit from refurbishment to enhance initial appeal. Warmly welcomed and seated overlooking lawn. Menu not wide choice but sufficient. Food well cooked and presented. Service from kitchen a little slow between 7-8 p.m.
Service wasn't good , bread rolls ( very nice bread) no butter, had to get some off another table .We had to ask for drinks
Husband had a roast and he enjoyed it
I am a veggie there was only 1 choice , compressed wild mushrooms and avocado with red pepper coulis, I asked what this was and was told it was a large flat mushroom ....I would have thought this was highly unlikely , but what followed who knows
I was given a lounge menu and told I could order off this , which was great as they did tapas. I ordered
Sweet potato , chickpea and tomato curry
Very spicy tomato sauce and I could only make out chick peas no sweet potato
Roast potatoes with chilli ...They were lovely
Portobello mushrooms in garlic cream sauce ...it was actually wild mushrooms, which I hate
I queried these dishes at the end of the meal , received no feedback , we went to the till to pay as it wasn't looking like anyone was coming to us and I asked what the chef had said , the answer was that I was very observant !!
If you expect to get what you order , it's probably best not to go
We had a lovely meal here, we were made to feel welcome and the meal was served very quickly.
The meal is served by lovely staff, presented nicely and also nice and hot. I will book again for sure and already have recommended to family and friends.
Very ordinary meal. Pork was like supermarket prepacked. Waiter not too happy when we asked for Brown rolls instead be seemed a bit put out. We received sliced brown bread instead.
Afternoon tea was a little under whelming. The sandwiches were a little on the dry side and the scones were like smooth dry balls so I can't recommend this.
Lovely spot for peace and quiet and taking in the views. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Very dog friendly hotel but evening meal
disappointing and expensive for what it was .. limited menu
