Not often you see an old pub refurbed to such a great standard, the Cross Guns is gorgeous. The staff friendly and helpful and best of all the food was fab. Best black pudding I've ever eaten. Will definitely be back.

Very nice place, good that you can take dogs in the bar area, lovely staff very good service, the only thing I would like is more choice on the menu and maybe have an offer where you can have a two course meal for a reduced price, overall enjoyed the night.

Long awaited return of the cross guns

Great atmosphere but still having teatging probs with the food one dish was only warm and the steak tough and chewy.

They dealt with the problem superbly. I’m sure next time it will be fine. I also thing choice on menu needs looking at particularly in the children’s menu daughter just wanted basic sausage and chips which they said they could nt do.

Really nice place plenty of space and friendly staff.

I really do hope it does improve as it is a great new place

The menu isn’t extensive , would have liked maybe gammon or lasagne on lunch time menu . We sat in dining room by a window and found it cold . I wanted s soft drink like a j20 but there wasn’t any or anything like it , only fruit juice or fizzy drinks , so was disappointed with that

The food was lovely and plentiful and the upstairs dining area was relaxed and comfortable after we'd asked for the unnecessary music to be turned down. Service was a bit hit and miss, but they are new and did try quite hard! There aren't enough tables downstairs, especially if you just want a drink +/or a quick snack and there are too many people sitting round the bar so it can be a bit difficult to see what drinks are available. It'll improve when the novelty has worn off a bit!

Lovely bar and restaurant. Prices fairly average. Food good, staff very helpful and friendly. They worked very hard but service was lacking, drinks order never arrived and so we went to the bar ourselves to buy them. Waited so long for dessert menu we decided not to bother.
Maybe they need more staff or better leadership because it wasn't for the lack of trying on their part.
We would definitely return and would recommend.

Side order of bread was a little disappointing, my hake was lovely but the meal was on the small side. My husband had steak and even though it was cooked to his liking the cut of meat wasn't of a great standard. The chips were massive, more like large potato wedges - too big. Love the refurb and the staff were all very friendly.

Went here on Monday early evening , there was a varied dinner menu , reasonably priced and great tasting large portions. One of us had the crumble for dessert which was too large even for two us to finish.
Service was faultless and overall we had a lovely evening.
The owners have made a fantastic renovation of this pub .

2nd visit, previously lunch, this time evening both enjoyable meals/occasions. Lovely deco and the restaurant (open in the evening) makes it feel a bit more special. A good addition for Egerton. Will definitely return.

A GOOD PLACE TO EAT - NICE DECOR -- QUALITY OF FOOD EXCELLENT
SERVICE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BIT QUICKER
FACILITIES FOR THE DISABLED SHOULD BE IMPROVED - A HAND RAIL IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE STEPS TO THE RESTAURANT; THE PATHWAY FROM THE CAR PARK SHOULD ALSO BE IMPROVED

Food was delicious and really well presented. Restaurant was quiet enough to allow a conversation - which is unusual these days - and much appreciated. Service was charming but a little haphazard but nonetheless all the staff were really lovely and helpful.

Excellent food, service was good although the restaurant was quiet empty
Waiting staff could have been a bit smarter
Also really object to smokers standing outside main entrance and having to walk through a smoke haze

Six of us went for late lunch on my sons birthday. The staff were very attentive and the decor is lovely. Beautiful upstairs particularly the private dining room. The food was tasty although a little dry hence only scored a 4. Would definitely recommend and visit again.

We visited on a Friday evening for dinner having been in for drinks previously. The food was great, however this was massively let down by the service. For the number of staff who were working it was a massive let down.

The waiting staff were abrupt and and scaresly seen. One issue which seemed to be the same with other tables close by was the wait for drinks - after the starters were cleared we ordered some drinks, these arrived as we were finishing our mains. There was no one to ask about these during the mains as the staff were nowhere to be seen. Funnily enough when it came to paying they were straight there to take our payment.

Overall the great food is being let down by the waiting staff.

Very disappointing valentines meal, wouldn’t recommend or return. The starter of goat cheese fritter was cold mousse in a shell, tasteless. I had to send my main meal as the steak I ordered medium came rare, and the dauphinois potatoes were cold and hard (pre made and ‘warmed up’) this meant we ate our valentines meal alone - not what should have happened at all. There was no apology from the service team - clearly needing a bit more customer service training. The dessert was lovely chocolate and caramel tart- this was obviously bought in so couldn’t have gone wrong. No check backs - satisfaction checks throughout the meal. The only thing I was impressed by was the atmosphere it did have a nice romantic vibe and all the food was presented well. Although, you should concentrate more on the food quality and team training.

I am afraid to say that this was the worst service I have ever experienced. It spoilt what could have been a fantastic birthday meal. Not even sure where to begin - it was a catalogue of service disasters from the long wait before our order was taken to the ordered wine which was plonked on the table without so much as a corkscrew! We were never asked if we wanted dessert and I had to go to the till to pay as there was no one to ask for the bill. There are serious organisation/management issues to be resolved - there were plenty of staff on but no one seemed to know what they were doing. The young staff also need training in customer service skills - one young man behind the bar was complaining about ‘people’ generally, in earshot of customers?? Not cool.
It was such a shame as the food was ok and the place has been done up very nicely. However, we will not be returning.
