Saturday & Sunday: 12pm - 8pm
After arriving and advised them we were there , we had a drink in the bar and then went through to the restaurant just before 8.30 and was seated . They didn’t give us menus . We had to ask after waiting a while . Then we had to ask someone to take our order . We only ordered main meals , they came at 9.30, I had chicken it was Luke warm which was a shame as it was presented beautifully , burger was ok . The chicken around my bone was raw . I advised the waitress when she came to clear the plates . She advised she would tell the chef . She came back with he’d probed it and it was fine . Beautiful place just wish the fromt of house was more organised .. food needed to be served quicker .
Great place, booked a table told them at the bar but we were left there for 20mins..we reminded them we had a table booked. Drinks ordered and we were not given menus.... young waiter had no idea we were dining when I asked for menus to look at and he just gave us one.
Pulled it round though but overall the service was sadly disorganized....food great would go back to give them another chance!
Lovely evening. Disappointing to not get , msteak cooked the way I asked & a cold bernaise sauce. Received the wrong bill almost double......thankfully I checked it. Staff more than helpful. The rest of my parties meals were perfect :-)
We went for a meal at the Crossed Guns on Friday, the restaurant was relatively quiet, however the service was extremely slow - we waited over 45 mins between each course. Also found the food to be overcooked, and they had completely forgotten our 'while you wait order' - which was a real shame as we have dined her previously and really enjoyed it.
We came here for a girls lunch, very attentive restaurant manager.Food portions are good and food tasted excellent. Would defiantly dine there again.
Food very high quality and well cooked service and surroundings excellent
Had a great meal with friends, service not always that great, but was busy upstairs with a large party. Would go again. Mide price range for the area.
Beautiful food the building as been refurbished to a very high standard and the service was very friendly . Thinking of going for Christmas meal thanks cross guns
Enjoyed our visit. The food was very good and the service was excellent
Yet again, The Cross Guns didn’t disappoint. Tuesday early evening it was quiet but the service, food and ambiance were all perfect. The staff are knowledgeable and attentive whilst being discreet. Totally recommend this place for any occasion.
Table checked several times but when we wanted a waitress it was very difficult to get anyone's attention.
Summary - The service was excellent but the food is overpriced for what you get.
The Barnsley lamb chop was very small with hardly any meat on but it was very tasty and presented well with the dauphinois potatoes, just not enough for the price charged. The waitress did say it was a large lamb chop but my friend and i hardly had any meat on ours. Was all bone in the middle. The gammon steak was quite thin more like a piece of bacon. The almond and raspberry tart was tasteless. Certainly no taste of almonds at all. Was disappointing really for the price of the meal and a shame as the waitresses were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant looks beautiful. A very good choice on the menu too. Some improvements needed to justify the price. Not sure if I would revisit
Food alright nothing special, needs to be much better for me to go back
The Cross Guns is a local that has lost its appeal as a warm local hang out. The manager is not warm and friendly and has no interest in getting to know the locals. Food is hit and miss sometimes very good other times not so nice ... I personally don’t find the CG that great anymore and do visit with friends but would take my friends elsewhere.
Brilliant refurbishment of an old pub. Now a classy dining space. Attentive staff, good food and a lovely old building.
Great food and great gin / beer choice. Service was fab too
The food was great but the service was very disorganized. Party of 4 and 2 meals would be brought out but then several minutes wait till the other twos arrived. Same on each course.
Have been twice in past month, first on a weekday at 5pm and the second on a Sunday at 5pm. On both ocassions the food was excellent, both in quality and quantity, and the price is reasonable.
There is a very nice ambience about the place.
Lovely pub, good food and drink. Good service worth the drive.
Went just the 2 of us for a catch up, the food was lovely and we didn’t feel rushed at any point despite the restaurant being busy. Have been a couple of times before and never had any complaints.
Excellent food and service. Would definately go again.
All of us had one of the roast and they didn’t disappoint! Every meal we got whether it was starters, mains or dessert was amazing! Will definitely be back
Tastefully decorated and spacious. The food was lovely and fresh and the service was excellent.
Food was good not excellent although the starters were. Waitress Kes was excelllent
Yet another brilliant experience. Would highly recommend
Even though the restaurant was short-staffed on the evening we dined, the staff were friendly and attentive and the food was superb. We had a delay between our starters and main courses but we didn't mind as we were happy to chat - however, we noticed that other customers did complain and the staff couldn't have been nicer or more apologetic to them.
The menu wass interesting and varied and all the options sounded so delicious that we had trouble choosing what we wanted! The food was well prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. I couldn't find fault with anything I had.
We will definitely go again.
After booking online and receiving a confirmation I was disappointed to be informed on arrival that there had been a technical issue and it wasn't possible to accommodate us, despite the restaurant being far from full and them having accommodated other people in the same position. I asked the waiter to check with management and was advised that "I had got away with it" and would be served. I quickly pointed out that "they had got away with it, as their error, not mine". The food was decent, however as no one came to clear our plates and ask if we wanted dessert (which we did) we left & won't be returning.
A very warm welcome. Lovely food and service. Our first visit but would go back again.
Second time to the cross guns. Starter cold on arrival. Service typical young girls rather than professional service. Food O. K. But not as well prepared as last time we came. Overall good it not an exceptional experience.
Was disappointed on arrival to find that all the disabled spaces were being used by cars not displaying a blue badge so a warning for those with mobility issues that this venue is not suitable as they may struggle with the overflow car park which is located across the road. The food was only average on this occasion as the chips served with the cheese and onion pie were very hard and difficult to cut. The biggest issue was the noise. I don't know whether it's the building but it was difficult for my friend and I to hold a conversation as everyone seemed to be shouting making it too noisy. Have visited several times since the refurbishment and always been very impressed but unfortunately not on this occasion.
I would like to comment on the excellent and professional service from all of the staff present during our visit on Monday 2nd July. The food was very nicely presented and much enjoyed by our group. I just wanted to add minor feedback on my main course selection (cod and potato) which was a little dry overall and slightly overcooked. Would definitely return however to try more of the dishes.
Food was very good. But the service was very bad. Husband asked twice for a beer and after 30 minutes still didn’t arrive.
Had to send my main course back as the duck was cold.
Need to teach staff not to shout to each other from halfway down the stair case.
Lovely atmosphere and good cheerful service. Need to book because it quickly filled up. This was Friday evening.
Was recommended by other family members and was not disappointed, thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.
Our visit was for Fathers Day & the staff looked after us really well. My father lives just behind the Cross Guns, lived there over 40yrs. He used to frequent the Cross Guns but hadn’t been in for years. He is absolutely delighted with the refurb & described it as ‘magnificent’! He says he will go in now, even on his own for the odd beer; aged 92, he knows now that the staff will be friendly & welcoming. Thank you
Yet again, fanatic food and good date night. Thank you to all the staff, food excellent!!!
Great food. Good service.
Would recommend, never stuck for choice
Plenty if oarking across the eiad.
Recommend booking it does get busy.
Food was fabulous and great value for money considering we all had mains and desserts and alcoholic drinks.
The room we were sat in was well decorated and, at first, was empty.
The only thing I'd pick at was they sat a family with a screaming baby behind us even though the room we was in was empty and they could have put them anywhere.
Not their fault for a screaming baby, but maybe next time look at the clientele you already have to see if they have kids or not.
But overall fantastic service, fantastic food, enthusiastic staff. Was great.
Having visited the Cross Guns before it was an easy choice to make for a catch up with a friend. Having recently (past 12 months) undergone a refurbishment, it is certainly a destination restaurant for local people and those from further afield.
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, they are attentive but not intrusive.
The menu is good with a selection of Appetisers, Starters, Mains - both wholesome and healthy options!, Desserts are good, although I have only managed one once due to the portion size of the starters and mains.
Having dined on Friday night I was expecting it to be very busy, however, I was surprised to say, despite having a large party dining upstairs the ambiance of the restaurant remained pleasant which facilitated a conversation without having to shout. The staff managed expectations about the large party and being busy, this was certainly not necessary as service was still very good.
As a local, it is good to find a nice restaurant with good food at reasonable prices.
Very nice atmosphere , lovely friendly staff . We had small problem with the quality of a steak but the Managef was extremely accommodating . Would recommend
