The food was really lovely, good choice of fish on menu, no specials board though! It was unfortunate the gentleman sat behind us liked the sound of his own voice and was exceptionally loud! He left eventually and the quality of the experience improved significantly! Alcohol is expensive and food is defitinely pricey for good pub food! However it was very tasty and although the portions don’t seem huge, we left feeling full. The place has been tastefully done up and we would visit again!
Nice atmosphere very nice and friendly staff, the food was ok but not exceptional it was better last time around 2 months ago, maybe it was what I chose we will probably go choose to visit again in the future as it was a nice and relaxing atmosphere.
Lovely food and service , only complaint would be the vegetarian moussaka was very small with a small salad and wasn’t worth the price . Great selection of gin!
Lovely bar and restuarant but felt that the food let it down. Arrived starving and ordered Cheese and onion potato pie. The pie was ok but the chips were very hard as though they had been prepared and then re-fried a couple of times. A shame as we had such high expectations but sadly it didn't live up to them.
Excellent restaurant - we arrived early but were seated immediately. I am coeliac and the menu had already been marked with the dishes I could eat and what changes they could make to dishes that were not immediately available to me. The food was the best I have had eating out in a long time and I will definitely be going again - I had the chargrilled chicken, bacon and avocado salad and black forest sorbet, my friend had the grilled Mediterranean vegetables speciality sandwich and raspberry almond tart, all delicious.
We had a lovely evening celebrating my Daughters Birthday, the atmosphere and Decor was first class, and the service was brilliant, the food was just outstanding, can’t wait to go back.
We really enjoyed the main meal cooked perfect but just one thing the food was lukewarm, our sweet was just delicious and hot. We will go again looking forwards to it. 👍😀
First class service and the food was of the highest standard, in terms of presentation excellent and taste outstanding. Great find, We enjoyed it smooch on our break that 4 of us are going again this evening.
First time visit for a lunch and was very pleased with the ambience and quality of food. Good pub food done well. Will return for dinner
Our first visit here. Recent refurbishment completed to a high standard, providing a pleasant environment. Fillet steak and Cumberland sausage main courses were good, steak ordered medium, I thought it well done but very tasty. Deserts were excellent , I really enjoyed the Pear & Ginger Crumble & Custard. My partner said the Spiced Apple Cake was the best desert she had ever eaten, high praise as she is always tempted by the desert menu. House wine lacking in quality. Friendly staff provided great service. We will definitely be going back.
Excellent value, tables well spaced, good service, nice atmosphere
Great setting. Excellent renovation. Very friendly service. Starters were excellent, choice and standard of puds Amazing. Mains very good but perhaps a little prosaic and not as exciting as before and after.
They should offer a daily special for that little bit of something extra to sample that is different every time they visit.
Otherwise, high quality food. Will definitely go agsin.
Enjoyed our evening in the Cross Guns. Great service and food.
Tried this for the first time in years as we lived in the area years ago,the pub/restaurant has been refurbished beautifully and suits this area perfectly, most notable we found the staff friendly and vary attentive, and called at our table to ask if our food which was great was ok, you don’t get this very often. The place is very cosy too, I believe the Cross Guns has only recently reopened after the refurb, Good Luck we really enjoyed our visit!
Exceptional service from Kerry and the team as always, food v good thank you, wider choice of desserts would be even better.
Sunday lunch with our daughter and son in law Easter Sunday.
Our first time but not our last, it has taken a while to get a table as they were always booked up when we wanted to go, so we booked 2 weeks in advance the on line booking service made it a doddle. A great menu awaits the hungry diner. From the usual Sunday roasts to some fantastic fish , game and meat dishes. We all picked something different for our main course, Rib of beef, cod , chicken and duck, all cooked to perfection and not a scrap left on the plates at the end. The service is excellent and attentive without being in your face. All in all a lovely afternoon lunch, highly recomended.
Great food and friendly staff. Will be returning again.
Cosy, comfortable venue with really tasty food. My lamb was cooked just as I'd asked and the creme brulee dessert was creamy and light with a perfect shortbread biscuit. We weren't hurried in any way (although they weren't particularly busy) and the service was friendly and efficient.
Lovely food. Excellent service. Lovely surroundings. Great ambiance
Great food and service really enjoyable. We will be back.
Great meal, we took my Aunt for her 87th birthday and she really enjoyed it, I would strongly recommend the steak and guiness pie, what a splendid pie that was.
The restaurant had been recommended by a friend. We went ad hoc and had a really good meal there are plenty of staff who were all polite, courteous and more importantly smiling. I will recommend too my friends and will return in the future.
Excellent food, worth a visit. Customer service was excellent too
Had a call re our booking as there was no heating in the restaurant due to boiler problem . They offered rearrange booking or they could seat us in small room adjacent to the bar. It was better the in the restaurant! cosy, warm (log burning fire), only four tables so fairly quiet but lovely ambience. Very enjoyable evening.
Food was cold and bland and we were charged nearly £4 for my young child to have 2 small pieces of a French stick whist he waited for us to finish our starter .
Has a lovely meal. Spoilt for choice so ordered 2 starters!!! Mushroom with pulled ham hock and Black pudding. Yum yum
Lovely food and great service. Rib of beef was particularly good!
Sadly was disappointed with The Cross Guns
We went to celebrate my husband getting a new job.
The starter was lovely but we both had the steak and egg brioche bun and chunky chip for our main. We asked for the steak to be Medium done, when they came the bottom of the bread was bright red with blood and the steak was very rare , I thought. It was actually raw and cold we could not get anyone’s attention so I ate my chips and the small salad and when the waiter came to take our plates we explained the meat was inedible. We did want to order dessert and coffee but 45 minutes later no one came to our table we actually felt they were avoiding us. We got our coats , explained at the till we had wanted to order dessert and coffees which the lady apologised for. Sadly the service was awful by the waiter , they need more staff as we were told my the waiter when he realised we had complained , that the reason he had not come back to the table “ he had other tables that he needed to look after” we had arrived when only one customer was sat in the bar.
Customer service training is really needed.
Thanks for a fantastic night all the group had a great night with excellent food, drinks and service
We have booked again to bring the family
My girlfriend's burger came out raw and cold, as did a fillet steak, drinks took an age to come. No apology from any staff members when they were told about the food. The venue itself is really nice inside and would be a good atmosphere if you were going just for drinks.
This was such a pleasant surprise. We knew that the place had recently been renovated, but was not aware that the standard of the food and decor etc was so amazing
Impressed with how the old place has been refurbished. Meal was delicious would definitely eat in the restaurant again.
When we arrived at the restaurant we were greeted by several members of staff who kept us at the waiter's station, until one of them took us upstairs to a table. A few minutes later we were asked to order drinks and told someone would be along to take our food orders. After some time, a waiter came and took our food order. After waiting for some time our starters arrived, but we had to ask for our drinks as they had not been brought to us. The gentleman who brought our starters apologised and soon our drinks were delivered. My starter (calamari) was fairly poor with just 6 pieces of squid and a minute garnish. My friend's starter (black pudding) was a little more substantial, but still fairly meagre. After another pause, our main courses were brought, both of which (gammon and chicken) were pretty standard fare. My friend had a dessert which was probably the best part of the meal. I understand that the bar downstairs was fairly busy, and there were two parties booked into the restaurant that night, but the standard of service was disappointing and, having worked in the restaurant industry for some time, I felt some basic training of staff was lacking. Generally, staff were friendly and the overall experience uneventful. I would not put anyone off going there for an everyday meal/drink, but would not recommend it for a special occasion.
Great lunch experience. Great food, service & atmosphere. Only had 1 hour as during office lunch hour. Rang pre-order thru & it ran like clockwork & all the staff looked after us particularly Kerry.
Good flavours - much better than I had expected! Worthy of 2 Rosettes when the AA get around to visiting.
Fabulous food, very very tasty, well presented and interesting mix of flavours. Thoroughly enjoyed everything and will definitely fo back. Service a little hit and miss but the staff are lovely and just lack a bit of experience.
To be honest was a bit of a last minute booking through Opentable. Wasn't expecting too much for some reason but was only about half an hour away so thought it was worth the drive anyway.
The place has only just been refurbished & was to a high standard & tasteful which gave us hope for the food. This was simply, honest, good food cooked well. with very reasonable prices; all topped off with pleasant servers. From our experience, this newly refurbished restaurant deserves to do well. Very well.
Very accommodating, friendly staff. Fabulous food, the kind you keep eating even when you're full. Modern setting, unobtrusive background music, ambient lighting but light enough to read the menu. The 'Big Easy' red wine was brilliant.
The atmosphere and decor was great, the food was good though in our opinion not hot enough. We still would return.
Starters looked like they had been left for some time. Soufflé had collapsed andburnt at edges mushrooms were look warm. Bacon on black pudding hard not crispy. We had to wait a long time for service. I questioned the bill 3 times! We were charged for to many glasses of wine( we had 2 medium and 1 small) then i realised we had also been charged for a full bottle of wine! We weren’t charged for starters but the day had been ruined. My daughter had made a special trip to be with us. We were all very dissatisfied, especially as it had been recommended to us.
