Custom Folkestone C.I.C.
Custom serves a small plates and brunch menu from 10am-5pm and a 4 or 6 course tasting menu in the evenings. All our food is seafood, vegetarian or plant based.
Custom operates from a beautifully converted shipping container in the East Yard of Folkestone's restored Harbour station.
We had an amazing experience and are big fans of Custom's mission and everything they stand for. The choices on the menu all sound so incredible, it's hard not to order a few, and we did not regret this as everything we ate was absolutely divine. Highly recommend Custom - thank you for everything you do and stand for!
Delicious and different and a way of catering and eating to be admired
Thanks Helen, so glad you enjoyed your visit to Custom!
The cuisine was excellent and imaginative as the last time but the wait between courses - at least 30 mins - was too long!
Hi David, we're so thrilled that you loved the food on your visit to Custom Folkestone, thank you for your review! You visited us on our busiest night since we opened and we're aware that we didn't get the food out as quickly as we would normally like to, so apologies for that. We're working on employing another chef in the kitchen at the moment, so hopefully those busy nights will continue but with a bit more pace! Look forward to seeing you again.
Lovely food and very helpful staff- we went for dinner and had a mixed table of vegan and pescatarian. Very interesting and tasty.
Thank you for your kind review Amanda! Hope to see you again soon.
Been looking forward to visiting Custom for ages and it was an absolute treat. There's not much better than watching the lettuce for your salad be cut two yards from where you are sitting!
The ethos of this place warms my heart and it is both family and dog friendly.
I think the degree of child friendliness won't suit some people if I am blunt (me a couple of decades ago tbh) but for others this will make a magnetic attraction! The venue was buzzing with young family families and kids just got to hang out together while mums and dads caught up with friends.
Overall this place is very, very special ❤️
Thanks so much Janine! I'm so thrilled that you enjoyed the food and the space. :) What a lovely review - we are very proud. It does get pretty hectic during our fortnightly storytelling sessions and we love that - but do feel free to pop in during our normal service and enjoy a slightly quieter time!
Fantastic place, really homely in feel but with phenomenal food. Already recommended to several people, we had the six course tasting menu (the fish one) and it was stunning.
It's just perfect! Really interesting food, local ingredients, lovely staff (of course). Thanks so much!
Delicious, local food made with love and care. Very accommodating of 2 fussy children, who both cannot wait to go back!
Very located, if slightly unusual venue. Lovely, thoughtful food, locally sourced. Some wonderful local wines. The service was attentive and the owner was very friendly.
Would absolutely go again and highly recommend.
I was very much looking forward to this meal. Sadly it was one of the worst meals ive ever had. A mixture of bizarre tasteless mush and woefully misplaced ingredients pertaining to be cuisine - it fast became a nightmare of courses.
At no point was I asked about the food or was anything offered as replacement.
As there were only two other people right next to me it was really not the time or place to start complaining, plus I physically felt sick due to the food and needed to leave. Reviews are about being truthful and the good along with the not so good. I am fully aware that my review contrasts with others here. Furthermore I saw no point in going back to the restaurant to discuss it all as requested. I wasn't going to change my gut reaction to the food I'd eaten. This was a nightmare meal and something I just wish to put behind me, forget about and never return.
We were of course extremely disappointed to read this review, as no mention was made on the night, even when asked - when we would have been very happy to discuss and even change the dishes. Other reviews from the very same night show that this was not an experience that others shared. We have asked this customer if he would to discuss his experience with our chef, as we would like to have the opportunity to put things right, but he has declined.
A small and unique restaurant with a calm atmosphere, wonderful personal service and amazing food. Simple, unpretentious but well thought through and we loved the attention to detail. Will be visiting again and spreading the word.
Really great experience, we will return for sure. An excellent venue with lovely food and atmosphere
Well, this was a last minute visit and what a good choice it was. The restaurant itself is situated on the harbour arm at Folkestone in an old sea container which has been converted for the purpose of providing a restaurant. There are only four tables And the kitchen is Situated at the far end. The service is friendly accommodating but never intrusive and the food very unusual but very tasty. My wife and I Enjoyed all of the courses that were included in the tasting menus which form the core of the food on offer. Our favourite was the celeriac soup with roasted Kentish cob nuts but there were many other dishes which we took an instant like to. The food is lovingly prepared and presented and whilst not cheap it is not in the very expensive bracket either. The only criticism might be that the wine at 9 pounds for a large glass might be considered a touch on the expensive side. However given the small turnover at the restaurant this can perhaps be forgiven And the encouragement to buy a full bottle understood. All in all we had a lovely evening which are very unexpected but delicious food and we went home happy customers. The restaurant is self is very basic but unusual and in my view well worth a visit
Great food and plenty of vegan choices available. Highly recommended.
We had the Christmas set menu and it was absolutely delicious! Perfectly designed and cooked, we will definitely be back again.
