Italian
D Antan - Vino Naturale e Cucina Italiana - is an authentic Italian Restaurant. Our menu is inspired by traditional recipes from Piedmont, like tajarin, the most popular homemade pasta of the Region or beef Brasato in Barolo wine.

We serve Italian natural wines ALL BY THE GLASS. A consistent selection of “skin contact” wines (also called orange wines) makes our wine list even more special.

D'Antan's wine selection was incredible. That's about it though, everything was well prepared, but the food was super challenging palate wise. We had the Gnocchi and the Bone Marrow Ravioli.

Food was excellent, lighting, atmosphere. They were playing some sort of 80's hits playlist during the entire eal (Love Shack included) that felt, perhaps, the exact opposite of what I would expect to hear at a place like this. We loved it, it was hilarious

D'Antan is a little bit different than your regular good Italian restaurant. The dishes have all receive the chef's special interpretation. The food is good but the chef adds too many ingredients for my taste -- especially since I think the standard interpretation is really good to begin with.

We had grilled octopus which was good, vitello tonnato which had a sour yogurt taste and was also lemony. For the presentation the vitello slices were curled around some extra herbs rather than flat on the plate. The veal was high quality. We also had ravioli parmigiana. Again the sour/lemony taste was too strong and you could barely taste the tonnato. Most disappointing was portion size -- three ravioli. The portion of the octopus was a bit skimpy; the vitello was short a slice. Worst of all was the tira mi su. Its a foam and has none of the wonderful creamy texture expected. Even the glass of wine was quite stingy.

The price for the main dishes seemed normal but you really get stuck with appetizers, desert, and wine by the glass -- by the bottle they looked reasonable if no a deal.

The service was great.

If you're looking for a bit of adventure you can get it at D'Antan

but the portions are tiny

There is a tiny interface between homey deliciousness and narrative art. It's called D'Antan:
1) Like Monet's haystacks, the first course is a vertical theme-based study. In this case, the theme is an umami-bomb of lobster crudo atop a local burrata. Each presentation is defined gently and evocatively by a powder, a granita, and a microgreen.
2) ooh, wagyu in an elegant composition with porcini two ways, crema below and slices chilled atop the beef. And a tender roasted sunchoke in its natural state as a contrasting contorno.
3) Duck breast nestled against "phoenix" leeks (literally burned, and the core extracted, resulting in an intentional depth and smoothness), surrounded with droplets of celeriac crema.
4) A 21st-century interpretation of a classic risotto Milanese. Saffron-forward, glossy with veal reduction, glittery, every rice grain perfectly al dente.
5) Exploring the space between sweet and savory: In a handmade chocolate tart crust is a mascarpone nuvola (cloud) that has been experienced in a deconstructed tiramisu (but that's another story), an encore of saffron, matcha powder and the meta magic of a root powder. Kind of is like alchemy, in that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

All this AND natural wine pairings (the special white with the burrata is memorable, yet I forgot its name), and a welcoming yet professional staff who make excellent recommendation.

Senz'altro tornero' presto. Dopo tanti anni, mi sento a casa. Mille grazie.

For our anniversary dinner yesterday, my husband and I went to D’Antan, a cozy, charming Italian restaurant. Since it was our first time there, we had trouble narrowing down the delectable food selections so we opted for the tasting menu. Each course from beginning to end was beautiful, tasty, and creative, often incorporating unusual ingredients. Both the server and chef were very friendly, attentive and informative in explaining each component, including the great natural wine pairings that accompanied every dish. We really enjoyed our special meal there. Grazie mille, D’Antan, for making us feel so welcomed, and we look forward to our next culinary adventure with you.

D'Antan offers an experience sui generis. Even the outdoor seating with a big blanket on each chair and cozy heaters manages to extend the ambiance of the (currently off-limits) dining room. Conversation is always possible. And every time, my exploration of vini naturali continues: Terre di Marca is a prosecco di origine controllata (DOC) that bears no resemblance to what appears on wine store shelves. It is petillant, not bubbly, and unfiltered. So drinkable.
The appetizer was a study in umami: nestled on a pillow of burrata atop the brightness of yuzu was the sweet richness of lobster crudo. The abstraction of umami was defined by the contrasts of green apple granita, red shiso and just the right amount of matcha powder.
Then, house-made gnocchi of hazelnut flour and chef-selected potato. These redefined gnocchi for me. Sono come nuvole. The porcini mushroom sauce was perfectly balanced and the Piemontese hazelnut garnish provided a crunchy contrast in texture. Then, pea tendrils -- just enough for a bite of greens with every bite of gnocchi--completed this balanced, varied piatto. Che scoperti!
The tagliatelle with duck ragu, cracked cocoa beans, licorice root powder, and baby greens was almost familiar. But a new, day-long technique of preparing a confit of the duck yielded a softness and a retention of flavor complexity that caused at least two tables to pause and say "Wow".
Finally, the closing dolce was a radical reinterpretation of tiramisu. Ladyfingers became brutti ma buoni, traditional cookies of egg white, almonds, and hazelnuts. The mascarpone blossomed into a foamy cumulus seasoned with secrets that brought the entire dish to the complex interface between sweet and savory.

I love the concept of mass-customized, personalized, co-created (MCPC) Assaggini.

D'Antan is a jewelbox encompassing a complete Italian experience: vini naturali; palate-opening first courses; risotti e pastasciutte intentionally assembled to both honor one region's traditions and build a bridge to another location; pesce e carni that uplift and enlighten; dolcetti that contrast cloud-lightness and crunchy.
On this visit, the tender octopus was accompanied by a celeriac cream (IG photo was deleted), followed by a matchless risotto -- 36mo-aged parmigiano & sprinklings of truffle, squid ink powder, red cabbage reduction, matcha (?)--all of which created a complex, elegant flavor profile. The orange wine was an excellent dining companion, chiming in at just the right moments. The dolce caprese is almond olive-oil cake, with a yuzu-lemon caramelized sauce, topped with Alessandro Tazza's handmade almond gelato. He graciously offered un moscato milanese in his grandmother's crystal (!).
Eccezionale, dall'inizio alla fine. Mille grazie. Ci vediamo presto.

Fantastic meal! Mauro prepared a special tasting menu for us and Andrea pleasantly surprised us with the wine pairings. Each course from the amuse bouche, appetizer, main, to dessert was savory or sweet, and delicious! One of the best meals we’ve ever had. What a special treat. Had the pleasure of spending two and a half weeks in Brooklyn and dined here twice. One more time before I leave. Thank you!!!

One of the best experiences that I’ve been able to have in a while. We came here at the end of our evening just for dessert and I immediately wished I had gone there for dinner. I felt as if I was in someone’s kitchen. The staff was fantastic and so welcoming and knowledgeable. Will be back for more wine and dinner, and definitely more dessert!

We dined here for Valentine’s Day. It was our first time eating at this restaurant. The pictures online make it look super quaint and cozy and cute — perfect for an intimate dinner. When we arrived, the place was packed. There was live jazz music which was a nice surprise. The servers were running around and seemed as if it was their first night on the job. I was haphazardly greeted and I told them I had a reservation. I was expecting to be seated in the main dining area. Instead we were seated in an enclosed outdoor seating area that was awkwardly quiet. The area had gravel in it so it was difficult to adjust my chair and it was cold (they provided very large chunky blankets for these outdoor tables that were too big and annoying). It took a very long time for us to get drinks and service in general. Our food arrived quickly however. The food was good but didn’t blow us away. When the jazz musicians took a break, tasteless greatest hits music was BLASTED over the speakers, to the point where I couldn’t hear my husband talking. We made light of it, but in reality it completely ruined the mood and vibe. We asked for the music to be turned down three times, eventually it was slightly turned down and then wound up being turned back up again at some point. Overall just an extremely weird dining experience. We couldn’t wait to pay the check and leave. Needless to say, I will not be dining at this restaurant again.

Very pricey for the neighborhood without the food to back it up. Great ambiance- the live jazz trio was very pleasant and the heat lamps in closed patio section were adequate. The barn smell in foyer may have been an aesthetic choice, I'm not sure. Food quality doesn't match the price point. 16$ cocktails in crown heights is *comedy*. Esp in an area that already has good cocktail bars. Good for a glass of wine with a date on your way home, perhaps, but wouldn't eat there again.

My wife like a lot of folks on OpenTable are foodies, she a bit more than me so we are tad more critical than some. That being said, we had two separate dishes and while mine was agreeably well done, we felt hers was a bit off but still tasty. The desserts were well thought out and matched the quality and went well with the entrees themselves. The restaurant is of course small, but intimate and works well for couples and small groups. I would definitely be down for it again in the future and recommend it!
