The food, ambiance, and service were all outstanding -- exceeded only by the souffles on the dessert menu, of which, over two days, I consumed three!
The service was terrible. We did not have a dedicated server for our table and had to continually look around to try to find someone willing to acknowledge us. We watched another table that was seated at the same time as us get their meals before we had even ordered. Our sparkling wine was being chilled at the servers station, but nobody ever came around to refresh our glasses. Eventually we had to take our bottle out of the ice and leave it at the table.
I'd overlook terrible service for amazing food, but the food was bland and nothing special.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the staffs was awesome and service was impeccable and attentive. The food was top notch however the portions was on the small size and we particularly did not like the pomme tartin !
The ambiance is quite nice and the service - from the serving staff - was attentive but casual, which is my preference. Food was all around tasty; extra effort was put in at the bar to accommodate a ‘special’ request of mine (How a sugared rim on a Sidecar is out of the originate is beyond me, but in the end the rim was sugared and I was happy.) Profiteroles for dessert were quite good.
Only complaint was that upon arrival, with a reservation, they wouldn’t seat me until the other person arrived. On a Wednesday night with visibly open tables that is just annoying. When the other party arrived in the 5 mins we were left standing at the host stand as the host came back to their post - TWICE - without seating us. But that is a detail. Overall a very nice evening.
Food was excellent. Server knew her wines and made great recommendations about what would go with what we ordered. Overall great experience.
This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in DC in a long time. You wouldn't think that a charcuterie board could be exciting, but this was special. The absolute start was the slow roasted branzino for two. We were four people and ordered two of them. Everyone was in heaven! I may have to go back soon just to have that dish again. The fish was cooked perfectly, great silky texture, great flavor, in an incredible (but light) lobster sauce with crab and scallops and a couple mussels and clams. Oh, and roasted potatoes and carrots. Just divine. The only thing that I find frustrating about DBGB is that they charge $45 for corkage. We bring a bottle just about everywhere we go because we have a lot of wine at home and enjoy drinking it with a good meal. Who doesn't? This is the highest corkage fee we've seen in the DC area, except for maybe Marcel's and The Inn at Little Washington, and even the Inn waives corkage if you also purchase a wine from them. We'll be back at DBGB often, but it stings to pay $45 to open our bottle.
The kids menu items were fantastic. My kids really enjoyed their meals. My wife and I enjoyed the branzino for two. Simple but so good. Just a little salty though.
Interesting wine list, excellent food and top notch service
I can’t believe how slow the service was on a Thu night, especially since the restaurant wasn’t full. The waiter seemed busier than he needed to be and I felt like our table was an afterthought. Perhaps it’s because a gratuity was already included in the bill. We had to hunt him down twice the only time he was super responsive was when it was timto pay him, but by then someone in my party had complained to management. They ran out of a desert we had selected so the manager was kind enough to comp our desserts plus because of the long waits we endured. The food was decent but it’s not worth the inattentive and slow service.
I love the restaurant but this one night we came with important friends to introduce them to your restaurant, the service was terrible: slow and unfriendly. Waitresses need to smile. We held an amazing dinner for 30 guests in November and it was spectacular. This time, it didn’t meet even the standard bar for service.
Had the chicken-it was awesome. Service was en point!
They took very good care of our party of 10. Servers were very attentive and the food was perfect!
I was surprised by how lovely and intimate a space it was. I loved the room, decor, and the fact that you can look out at city center. The waitstaff was wonderful to us with our 1 year old, and were super helpful. The food was just fantastic and it was one of the best Bloody Marys I've had! I would definitely go back and would recommend it. We went for brunch and this was a refreshingly quiet and relaxed space for a nice meal.
Incredible meal. Our server was outstanding. The desserts we ordered capped off a perfect evening. Thanks!
The wait staff was wonderful. The food was ok - it appeared to be cooked as requested but was lukewarm on arrival. The table was tiny, we continuously had to rearrange or remove items while eating which was uncomfortable and distracting. There are many other better dining choices in the area.
Excellent food and service as always. The day-boat scallops with sauce Grenobloise is a discovery. I was somewhat disappointed that DBGB's wonderful soufflé Grand Marnier seems to have been put on an austerity regime. Probably better for the health but I miss the indulgence the earlier generous version offered.
A disappointment. Nicely crafted menu but the execution, delivery of the menu all fell below my expectations. Service was mediocre at best.
This was my second time at DBGB and it was better than the first, which I didn't think was possible. My friend and I had the New-groni and Wake Up in the Sky. Both drinks were great choices. Later, we had the Blue Crab Spaghettini and the Duck a L'Orange. The duck absolutely perfect and very tender. My friend said her meal was a 10/10, as well. For dessert, we had the Baked Alaska for two. By the way, the Baked Alaska ingredients/flavors change every now and then. The display alone was worth the money, but it was a masterful blend of flavors and very satisfying dessert. My favorite part was the mandarin sorbet and the bottom of the cake that was soggy from the fiery vanilla-infused vodka that was poured over the Swiss meringue. The only downside was how crowded our dining room was, but it was a Saturday night. You definitely have to raise your voice and I wouldn't suggest it for an intimate evening or first date. Overall, we had a phenomenal meal and a great experience. Daniel Boulud's restaurants never disappoint.
P.S. The walls in the large dining room are lined with plates designed/painted by world-famous chefs! Even Anthony Bourdain's is there. It's pretty cool to see names and unique designs of your favorite chefs as you wait for your food.
Very delicious french cooking, the best oyster in the US ever and a fantastic Foie gras accompanied by an excellent wine selection. I can really recommend this restaurant.
This place never upsets - whether I sit at the bar or a table. During this visit we enjoyed the tomahawk and branzino. This was the first time for my guests and I know they’re excited to return.
DBGB continues to be one of the most hospitable restaurants in DC, and to top it off, the food is incredible! Thanks for a great night!
Amazing salad and very interesting tai sausage. We had a nice table by the window and great service. It was a bit pricey but extremely tasty!
This restaurant is a favorite of mine. The food and service are always fantastic.
Lovely restaurant that I went for an anniversary. Definitely a place to go if you are celebrating or want a semi-formal setting. The food was absolutely delicious and well presented. A bit pricey, but worth it if you go for a special occasion. Overall very happy with the experience.
Great service and very attentive. Food was delicious and very fast!
Delicious food and the vibe was amazing. Never disappoints for a nice brunch in the city.
Food is always great and the service usually is as well. Definitely pricey.
Different experience this time around, quality of the preparation definitely not the same. Not sure what changed but it shows in the food.
We went for our anniversary and DBGB did everything perfect! We were greeted w/ complimentary champagne and ended the night w extra dessert! In between our surprises the main courses (halibut and chicken) were excellent...cooked right w/creative and tasty sides. Drinks were well prepared (strong) and good looking.
We will be back to see if our next trip stacks up!
It was my second time dining at DBGB, both were good experience. I got the duck breast the first time and it was very good. I got scallops the second time, it was fresh and the vegetable and source were very delicious, however, the scallops were way too salty. I wish the salt level be more balanced between the grilled cauliflower and scallops.
The service was excellent, it was a little slow in the beginning, took about 10 mins for the waiter to get our drinks order, but it picked up. The main courses came right after we finished our cheese board. Waiters and busboys were very friendly and professional.
There was a live band which was lovely, but it was a little difficult to have a conversation.
I would recommend DBGB to a friend.
Really slow service, and how can you serve unsalted fries with a steak? Not impressed overall, but some things we're functional... Last time I'll be here.
Food was fabulous. Service was great. Atmosphere was very nice. A bit noisy, but aren't most restaurants?
Nice place, decent food, just don't expect anything special.
You guys made our date night amazing!! Food, drinks, and service was outstanding!!!
Amazing experience across the board. Some of the best food I've had in quite a while and I had one of, if not the best, cocktails I've ever had. HIGHLY recommend this place!
Very well done. The dessert was remarkably well-balanced - many compliments to the new pastry chef's cranberry reduction with the chocolate dessert!
We sat in the bar area and enjoyed items off both the Happy Hour and regular menus. Cocktails were good but nothing to write home about. Appetizers were better, and the main course and desserts were fabulous! Recommended wine to accompany my orange duck was very nice, too. So sad Proof closed, but it looks as if we’ve found another favorite restaurant. Sorry I can’t remember our waiter’s name as he was very good, enhancing our evening.
Food was meh. Service was great. We went for a birthday brunch. I think it’s better to stick with starters and skip the mains as they were sub par compared to the smaller dishes.
Awful experience on Valentine's Day. Sat very late, poured our own wine, portions were much smaller than what we saw given to other patrons as we waited for our tiny corner table near the bathroom from the crowded lobby.
Will never come back here.
