We went to DBGB for dinner prior to heading to the theater. The food was fantastic! My husband and I both got the steak frites, which were delicious. The fries were nice and crispy, but I a little too salty. The service was great and we sat at a booth which was very comfortable. I loved the ambiance as well. Will definitely go back!
Our experience at DBGB DC was wonderful from start to finish. We were greeted warmly by the hostesses. When we were seated, our server Eva came right to our table and tended to us thoughtfully throughout the evening. Our sommelier picked out a delicious wine to go with our meal which was excellent. The manager, Christian checked on us several times. Our water glasses were always filled. Noise level was perfect - not too loud! We'll definitely be back.
My husband and I have been there a couple of times together and I’ve been there probably six times with friends. I love this place and it never disappoints! Great service, creative specials, and great standbys for French comfort food. I don’t think there’s anything bad on that menu.
Service atmosphere and food were fantastic, amazing experience we will definitely go back in a future weekend in Washington.
This is the dime-store version of a French brasserie. The vegetables were flaccid, the crab cakes were soggy and the tartar sauce was out of a can, the beef tartare left my stomach upset for a day. Good luck finding a decent wine for less than $18 (and don't ask me why the sell an upcharged, non-standard 8 oz. pour). All this for $70 per person, minimum. Save your money.
Food was delicious! Highly recommend it!
Wonderful thanksgiving meal, attentive sommelier and wait staff. Lovely cocktail menu.
Although it was raining, DBGB was eerily quiet for a prime time reservation on a Saturday night. Regrettably, I soon came to better understand why this was the case: amateurishly poor service and mediocre food. In the course of our 2 hour visit, servers in the dining room dropped/broke glasses on three occasions. As I observed the operation, my sense is that none of the servers took their job seriously. They were largely disinterested and we waited a long time for ordering, drinks, and the check. The food itself all sounds good in theory and the menu is varied, but the execution of the dishes is merely okay--and not what you'd expect from a place that carries Daniel Boulud's name. Regrettably, DBGB seems to be surviving (barely) on the Capital Arena crowd, though based on my experience, I have doubts that this place will be here much longer. Incidentally, the check for a party of four was a whopping $450 (before tip), which is quite high given the poor service and mediocre food.
The food was fantastic. The Blue Crab Spaghettini was decadent, and the Braised Lamb Shank was fall-off-the-bone tender. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly, even in a full restaurant.
It was overall an amazing first experience at this restaurant, and I would absolutely return time and time again.
My friend and I have a regular monthly lunch date at DBGB and it never disappoints. Our usual server was off on this particular day but we were well taken care of by Justin. This service and food are excellent and keep us going back.
First I enjoyed a fragant and sweet Sage Against the Machine, strong yet subtle. For the main course I shared the Chateaubriand, and it was a masterpiece. All else was at the "very good" level, but the Chateaubriand with foie gras reigned supreme and is now imprinted in my memory's Hall of the Exquisite.
This gem of a restaurant knows how to do food right! I found this place when it first opened and have recommend it to many people who are also fans. I had the duck a l’orange (excellent, succulent) and my friend had the blue crab spaghettini (recommended by the waitress) and he said it was very good. If you want to have a quieter meal, ask to sit in the back part of the restaurant (up a few stairs off the entry ). We were seated in the bar area and it could be kind of loud from time to time. Our waitress was terrific -I didn’t catch her name but she is from Bulgaria - and had a great sense of humor. On the dessert side, the carrot cake was only ok, and the soufflé was quite delicious. I’ve had the baked Alaska last time I was there and it is quite nice! All in all, two thumbs up!
The food was superb; however, IMO, having just returned from two weeks in a France, the contrast between our attempt at French cuisine and authentic French cuisine was quite noticeable mainly in the portion size. Please, we are here for a culinary experience, not to be forced to leave a major portion of a $30+ meal on the plate. The bed of lentils with capers was delicious, but the portion size was inappropriate to the quality of the dish.
I love a good steak frites (got that twice on this trip).
Great service. However, food was disappointing. I had the lamb which was good. A little pricey for what it was. Wife had the steak frites and the steak was extremely disappointing in flavor (cooked at medium).
Met a friend for lunch. The service was outstanding. There when we needed it, absent when we didn't. The food was good, but a little mixed. The prix fixe lunch was a good value. The cauliflower soup was outstanding, as was the cod. The tuna nicoise salad was ok, and the chocolate chip cookies that came with the prix fixe lunch were a little disappointing. But overall, an excellent experience and I will be back to try dinner.
Caroline the General Manager and Christian, her Assistant GM, have really tightened up service and food quality.
Outstanding, excellent food and service!
Really outstanding food. Everything we ordered was prepared. The stand out dishes included the roasted carrots as an appetizer, the chicken entrée was outstanding and the tart tartan and the profiteroles were excellent. The service was super attentive. Overall, an outstanding dining experience.
Excellent! Food and service was outstanding! Warm and comfortable- amazing experience!
A close friend and I have a standing monthly lunch at DBGB. The food is amazing; you can’t beat the Express Lunch. The service is top notch; Jason is our favorite. He’s extremely attentive and friendly.
Lovely lunch
Great service, quality food, enjoyed the cocktails. Highly recommended!!! One of my go to spots in DC.
Hmmm...how do I say it was Just.Wonderful! in 55 characters? My sister was visiting from Mass., and is a vegetarian, unlike my husband and myself (I'm just picky); each had to struggle to decide among several appealing choices; each was delighted with the dish finally chosen. The space was very pleasant, conversation easy, and the waitstaff right there when (or just before we realized they were) needed, without being intrusive at all. They were all pleasant, too, not perfunctory. The waiter himself had good descriptions of the ingredients in each option we were considering. Expensive, of course: we expected that, and were prepared for it: no surprises.
I wish Americans did not put icecream in profiteroles, it really does not make sense
Yet again, DBGB did not disappoint. What a wonderful restaurant!!
Wonderful French restaurant in Downtown DC. In the heart of the top of the line designer stores. Thislittle gem has a working owner who is the maitre d, a great bartender, and a lovely hostess. We ate at the bar and enjoyed a beef tartar which was mixed with just the right ingredients to make it a delight to eat and the whole chicken for two. They brought out the cooked golden bird for us to see and then whisked it back to the kitchen to be cut in perfect sections to make it a joy to eat. It was served on a bed of small potatoes, chard, rosemary, and whole garlic. We could bot finish the melt in your mouth chicken there was so much food. The owner brought a complementary apple tartain, which we could not resist. Along with a outstanding French Rose, this was a memorable restaurant.
The team was fantastic and completely accommodated my large group that was beyond their normal procedures. I’m grateful to the staff and management that helped me bring together a great group of people.
Keeping this short, I will say that we had a nice, good meal. Our server did a great job. It isn't the best French bistro style restaurant in DC, but it was good.
Excellent food and excellent service. I highly recommend the prix fix lunch and let your server make recommendations. It is worth it.
A last minute choice and so glad we chose this restaurant. So good!! Wonderful, wonderful service from start to finish. The French bread and warm butter were amazing and our party of 5 all enjoyed our entrees and dessert. Wine selections are good and the coffee I had with my dessert was delicious. Thank you for such great service and a very nice evening out!! I recommend!
Always reliable and convivial! Had the burger and a martini in the bar. A lot of fun!
Mon steak tartare avez un goût de tout sauf de la viande .
Le poulet ail ail très bon le reste pas mal mais pas exceptionnel
I’m a fan of DBGB. I always find the food to be exactly what I’m expecting and the staff is nice. Definitely a place I’ll continue to visit
Our server may have been new. He was nice but pretty inefficient.
Found DBGB a modern French-American restaurant. The servers were very attentive and even came by to wipe off crumbs after each course. The food was good and I believe good value in terms of how much was served. I had put in our anniversary in the comments and the manager took full note and made the evening very special. I recommend you check out DBGB on your next special occasion or even just for cocktails.
Loved the steak frites. Overall, somewhat limited menu choices. Prices high.
It was a fun time with friends! Bartender and servers were so nice and attentive. Would 100% recommend!! We got there super early and sat at the bar for some drinks. Super quick service. Took our drinks to the table and super quick service there too! A very fun time. Beautiful interior and space.
The food was okay, but overpriced for what it was. The place has a nice ambiance and the service was attentive and good, but not sure we'll go back because of the prices.
The food was excellent from start to finish, from the perfect French bread and butter to the desserts. My family of four, two adults and two teens, raved about every course and shared tastes of each dish with each other. Ambiance is nice, not pretentious at all, nicely upscale casual. Service was good -- there was a slight bobble with a birthday celebration message that was lost in translation, but the maitre d' made up for it with flutes of Moscato to finish our meal. We live out of state but will definitely go back again!
