The food was delicious and well
prepared—loving their roomy terrace with awning during this time when we prefer outside seating even on hot days!
The last day it was open before the mandatory closure owing to Covid-19. We'll hope it reopens soon.
I eat at DeCarlo’s regularly and enjoy the food and ambiance and ease of finding parking.
Great meal and throwback ambience. Definitely a go to for my wife and I.
Waiters ignored us, and were generally not pleased that they had to serve us. They seemed to be better with the regulars at the restaurant. We may return here, but only for the food, and the atmosphere is pleasant--even better in the summer when the patio is open.
The food was poor. We had the risotto and the lasagna.
Valentine’s dinner. Truthfully and not surprisingly because of the crowds the food and service weren’t quite up to their normal excellence, but it was a wonderful meal and, as always, quiet. The special, pasta was a little overcooked but very tasty. The kitchen forgot to add the scallops, but the server noticed as he was serving it and ran back to get them. They arrived beautifully cooked and browned. DeCarlos has the best bread around.
Delightful experience always. Been patron for decades. Food and service are consistently good. Owner, family, staff and other diners are friendly and considerate. You won’t regret visiting DeCarlos. It is a gem.
We were among the very first guests for Valentine’s Night and our timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It was quiet and romantic. Neither of us had ever been to De’Carlo’s before and said we agreed we wanted to return. We loved our experience.
Excellent, as always. 😊
A reunion of friends who now live on two coasts.
We were able to talk hear ourselves, but not other diners. The attentiveness of waitstaff was just right. Our food was delicious. We could not have asked for more. This will be the first of many visits.
We love DeCarlo's and dine there several times a year. There has been some recent turnover in service staff, so a few waiters are not as familiar with the menu or practices as the more experienced ones, but we still like it and want to support the restaurant as long as we can.
DeCarlo’s is always wonderful’
Overall a great dining experience at a neighborhood restaurant. Only problem was the veal chop that was over-cooked.
Good food and good service. A reliable, neighborhood institution.
It’s always great, even on a Monday night. You are never rushed and the service is old world - attentive but not intrusive. I’ve been dining here for 30 years and it’s never less than good; usually it’s excellent.
This is a classic, old school Italian restaurant that is perfect (and by the look of the crowd, loved) by mature diners. My 88 year old father and his friend loved the place, the food, and the ambiance. In particular, for older guests, the quiet calm of the dining room is a much welcome break from modern restaurants that can been incredibly loud, and difficult on hearing aids.
The service was fine, but could have been a bit more friendly. The waiters were ok, but they didn't engage in a way that made you feel welcome and cozy, however one could see them engaging more personally with regulars in the dining room.
The prices were a tad high, but everyone enjoyed their meal. This is a little secret in NW DC, it doesn't appear on best of lists and all that. Its a solid stable restaurant that delivers, in particular to more mature audiences that want consistent quality in a calm and comfortable environment. WIth that, no doubt we will return again. Its not a up tight foodie place, its were you go to dine on good food and have good conversation with your table mates over wine. We did have to chase down a waiter to get them to process our bill, but that was at the time when the place had filled up for dinner. Again, the guys (most of the waiters seemed to be men) could be a bit more warm and welcoming. But nothing to keep us away in the future.
Great Christmas Eve meal at DeCarlo's. The martinis were exquisitely prepared and the wine list allows for even the most challenging tastes to find a bottle or a glass. Entrees were served together at the correct temperature and were prepared to perfection...she had the veal chop and I had the salmon.
The waitress was attentive but appeared to be new and not totally familiar with the menu. Not my first visit to this fine Italian restaurant and will certainly not be my last!
Christmas Eve dinner, food was excellent but the service was very slow.
We had a lovely dinner and evening while enjoying the beautiful Christmas tree.
Everything was wonderful and we will definitely be back!
Portions not too large and sauces were light. Everything was delicious. Service was very good. Great neighborhood gem. Will be back.
Great for,older people! Parking available.
No steps into restaurant.
Have been going to this restaurant for many years and always enjoy the dining experience received.
All of the food was really tasty and the restaurant had no problem with splitting a salad and a dessert.
This was possibly the longest dining experience I’ve ever had. We made a reservation for our party of 8 for 7:15 on a Saturday night. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. It was 25 minutes before we placed our drink order, we were not provided with menus until 35 minutes and were told by our waiter that they were short on menus.
Dinner arrived an hour and 30 minutes after we first sat down and when all was said and done and we had paid the check we had been there just under 3 hours.
The staff was nice and the restaurant was very crowded but 3 hours is a record for me. The food was tremendous however and the pricing reasonable for the high quality of food.
A family favorite for years - this restaurant is always quiet and the food delicious.
Service was terrible and there were only two tables of diners. We had to flag down servers to get any help and then they were unpleasant. Food tasteless and not inexpensive. Last time going there—have tried several times thinking it was an off night.
We Love DeCarlo's. The service and food are always good. I had 2 specials: tomato, avocado and burrata salad, followed by the swordfish. My husband had a half order of carbonara to begin (always wonderful) and then the filet oscar. Everything was superb!
A personal favorite...NEVER FAILS to satisfy! We enjoyed the Lobster salad and the pasta is always great.
We had a very nice dining experience. The servers were attentive and provided excellent service. Food was authentic and very good.
We LOVE this restaurant, especially when Israel is our waiter!
My go to restaurant when I want a reliably pleasant dinner in a pleasant setting with good food and good service.
This restaurant is consistently good and gets even better the more often you go. The staff learn your preferences and can make suggestions that enhance the meal. I’ve been going here for almost 40 years and have rarely been disappointed.
Food and service are excellent! And, you don't have to drive downtown after work to get a fantastic meal.
We go regularly to DeCarlo's because they cook some of the best fish in town. It is a good place to have a good dinner and a conversation. Despite development rumors, the restaurant is alive and well and hopefully diners will keep it that way for many years.
This neighborhood gem always has consistently good food, excellent wine selection and good service, and you can have a quiet, relaxing conversation without interruption or noisy distractions. Thanks to the owner and staff for their excellent service over many years.
I have been going there for decades and it never disappoints. On the most recent event, it was cold and raining outside, but inside it was quiet, comfortable and inviting. The room is dignified and the tables are far enough apart that you don’t have to talk over the table next to you. Let’s hear it too for real white linen table cloths that muffle the clanks of plates or silverware. The waiters are friendly and reserved; one doesn’t have to endure some millennial asking “ Hey, how are you guys tonight?”
The food is classic Italian. They have a wide selection of meat, seafood and pasta choices. Either the mussels or the artichoke are great appetizers. My favorite pasta dish - pasta with white wine and clams, and I like all of their seafood main courses.
There is a wide selection of desserts and after dinner drinks.
The dining is unhurried and you really have a chance to enjoy the meal and company.
Food not as good as in the past. Service was fine. This is a neighborhood restaurant. Good for low key dinner.
DeCarlo's is always wonderful for great food and service and an atmosphere that allows for easy conversation. Love it!!!
...DeCarlo's is a hidden favourite of ours-always good!
