Good food but their menus didn’t show gluten free (gf) or gluten free option (gfo) so I had to keep asking the waitress which contained gluten or not. The reason we went to the Devonshire Arms was that their menus showed gf options, sadly that’s changed now. The barcode didn’t work so I couldn’t check the food had gf or not. It took the enjoyment out of our meal for our anniversary.

We were served a shop brought Camembert that you can buy from a Tesco and 3 very small thin slices of bread each to go with it. We asked for more bread as there was still half of the Camembert left and were charged for 5 tiny slices. Totalling our starter to £18. The mains were nice but quite small portions on a large plate. Service was very slow even though we were the only ones in the restaurant at first. There were only two other tables there by the time we left. Staff were lovely however.

A good menu offering a wide range of options. It was a shame that it was felt necessary to charge £1 for additional gravy . Never been charged before in a restaurant!

Had Sunday lunch - beef. Meat, potatoes and gravy were good but plates weren'thot and food cooled quickly. Some of the veg was very hard, i dont mind slight crisp carrots and beans but all the veg was hard. Roast parsnip could not be cut it was so tough. We were dining early so this could have had an effect. TBF this is our first negative meal here as always had excellent food on pst visits. Staff as usual were helpful and friendly and service was fast. We are hoping it was a one off because we were early.

Disappointing from start to finish. Avoid the frustration. We arrived at 1.50pm, after 20 mins our drinks order appeared but was wrong, 10 minutes later, the same drinks arrived, wrong again. The food was eventually served at 3.45pm, having been there nearly 2 hours . The veg was over cooked and cold, the mash potato was grey and crispy, the pies tasteless, the gravy like brown gluppy water. The club sandwich bread was stale, the eggs followed a similar grey hue to the potatoes, the chicken strips cold and the French onion soup similar to the gravy with cheese on top ! Waiting so long we were absolutely starving, so ate what we could and within 15 minutes of the food arriving we were paid and gone! We had brought friends we had not seen for ages out for a nice Saturday lunch, but sadly all that happened was that we kept apologising for our terrible choice and for such an awful experience. Interestingly, not one apology from the staff nor even a polite check to see if we were ok, despite having to go and find someone to ask how long our food would be 4 times. Each time being told, there are 2 checks in fromt of you, so maybe another 10 minutes? The restaurant was not busy, maybe 16 other diners, how can anywhere get it so wrong?

The service was very slow and the fish and chips were nowhere near as good as we have had many times before at The Devonshire. The waitress was lovely and really apologised and the manager was also very sorry that we had not enjoyed our meal and made an allowance in our bill. However we will have to reflect on whether to go to The Devonshire in the future

Our waitress was very sweet and attentive but sadly the food service was extremely slow (it wasn’t that busy either). The food was nice although you need to take greater attention to detail for the prices you are charging, eg: underdone parsnips, tablespoon size red cabbage for £4 and small steak given it was only sirloin priced at £31 ( it was very tasty). Overall we are not likely to come back due to more options locally with the same or better quality and better value.

Table booked in restaurant not available so offered table in bar. Food temperature was only just passable. Dessert took 45 minutes to arrive. Not what we have come to expect from the Devonshire Arms, has it changed hands? Can't recommend at the moment.

Having enjoyed a lovely meal a few weeks ago, this time we were sadly disappointed. We both ordered the porchette and the meat itself was pleasant enough. However the vegetables and potatoes were dreadful. The portions were tiny and cooked to a mush. My potatoes and veg also had a faint chargrilled flavour as if they had been in pan that had burnt but the veg itself had been rescued. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy and the side portion of cauliflower cheese was very poor value -£4 for a small dish of cheese sauce and no more than a teaspoon of cauliflower. To top it all we sat next to a table of three extremely noisy guests which spoilt the ambience somewhat. Saying all of this the waiters/waitresses were very pleasant and helpful. Shame as we’re local, we’re always looking for nice places to eat.

We arrived earlier than our table was booked for and was told we couldn’t be seated early and to go to the bar. We asked twice. This was not a problem but nobody came for us at all. So at 10 minutes past our booked we asked a different member of staff who said no problem come straight through. Half tables were empty. I think first person we asked couldn’t be bothered to check. She didn’t take our name. Sunday dinner was fine nothing special for the cost. Not enough veg which is cheap enough. £4 extra for cauliflower cheese!

Decided on the Devonshire Arms for Sunday dinner - booked at short notice and got a table for 2 - food was lovely - we both had the Pork Porchetta - the only complaint I would make was the crumble dessert came with a very small amount of custard - could have done with 4 times the amount - apart from that a very enjoyable meal in a nice setting

Shepherds Pie was amazing. Served by Mandi, excellent service. Only downside was dessert. I am coeliac so need gluten free. The only item I could have was chocolate brownie. This is the same item that is offered almost everywhere, often as the only choice! It is very easy to offer other gluten free desserts, fruit crumble is easy to make with gluten free flour and gluten free oats! Meringues, cheesecake with gluten free base, creme brulee, creme caramel, to name but a few. Look forward to visiting again and having a choice of dessert.

We was received very friendly by the bar lady. After ordering our drinks we sat for a few minutes then went to the restaurant. Ordered our mains only. My wife ordered Steak pie with mash and veg. The meal came with cold roast potatoes and called the staff member over after trying to get their attention as they were both standing by the till area on their mobiles, frustrating. Then the pie looked good the top crust and sides were so hard unable to cut or eat. Eventually I had to cut around to top to lift off to eat the meat. The meat was lovely the pie pastry fit for nothing. My goats cheese salad was just fine. Very disappointing evening. Avoid at all costs , waste of money. Staff in resturant do not care about the guests.

This was our first visit. It seemed to also be the first visit for quite a few staff, 3 of whom said they were new. This may account for the first negative which was a very long wait for a bottle of wine. It seems they'd run out of the one we had chosen so instead of letting us know they just skipped our order. We had to ask to find this out. Second negative was poor value for money. Calamari starter was 4 pieces. Chicken and ham hock pie had 1 piece of chicken and 2 pieces of ham hock in it. Lots of pastry and sauce. Other than that the place itself is nice. Dogs are allowed everywhere which was good for us as we could reserve a table in the restaurant rather that chance whether we'd get a table in the bar. It was busy for a cold and miserable Saturday night in February.

Good customer service especially the nice little extras for the dogs - water and biscuits. Also plenty of room for our daughter in her pram. Wait on food far too long (nearly an hour), wouldn’t have minded as much if we’d been told. Food very tasty however one slice of beef on your roast dinner seemed extremely tight and the same for the pigs in blankets… £5 for 3 which we could not share between for of us. Also the cauliflower cheese portion was very small. If you are selling them as Individual side portions no problem but you need to make it clear on the menu and the staff should make you aware also a revision on price because that would make a Sunday toast very expensive for what you actually get. Bags of potential, lovely staff, tasty food. Just needs a few tweaks.

Food was absolutely delicious and the staff were lovely and very helpful, but the service was slow, even though the restaurant didn't seem to be particularly busy, and I think the food was a little on the expensive side. The restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and had a nice quiet atmosphere. Would definitely go again, but only if we have plenty of time.

An absolutely stunning evening of food and service from arrival to departure. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Not sure what some of the recent negative reviews can be talking about as our entire experience was first class. If it was busy and you had to wait for your food I am afraid that's life when everything is freshly cooked to order by people who care about what they are doing.

We only ordered soup for 2 people, it took almost an hour to arrive, I think they had forgotten about us, I had to ask where my soup was, I received a blank look from the server, he then said i5 would b42 m8 utes when in actually fact it was even longer, the place was not busy so why it took over an hour for soup to arrive is beyond me. The soup tasted liked gravy with onions added in, very disappointed

Ordered @ 6 pm 2 x roast beef dinners @ £39 , beef hard to cut & chewy, roast potatoes & cauliflower cheese hard & cold. Complained next Ordered 1 x vegetable soup too much pepper in, could not eat. Chicken & chips with cos lettuce & garlic mayo. Not worth £16 but by this time 7:20 was very hungry so ate the meal. Ordered cheese & crackers & apple & blackberry crumble with custard , to be told, no cheese & crackers & the sliced apple in the crumble was hard. In my opinion the food was too expensive for what you’re getting. I would avoid this establishment, if you’re looking for good food. It’s under new management, I would say, they need to try a lot harder. Would avoid !!

Sat waiting for quite a while, waiting staff were non attentive and never asked if we required further drinks. At last our Sunday lunch arrived, the soles on my boots were more tender than the beef, some bits we just could not cut through, cauliflower cheese looked great but most of it wasn't even cooked and the portion size was for a small child, rest of the dinner was extremely tasty, but your paying for the beef! Never go there again unfortunately - very very poor
