Dining at The Cliff Hotel
The Cliff Hotel dates back to 1890 when the original hotel was opened, in 1915 the building was ravaged by fire and demolished. The old staff accommodation was renovated into a new hotel, the building that we currently occupy today.
We have a vast selection of dining options from our relaxed art-deco inspired MUSE restaurant, our vibrant bar dining area or one of the biggest outside dining terraces in Norfolk.
Wherever you decide to eat our menus will give you a huge variety of choice from fresh fish to steaks and grills. Alternatively we have lighter snacks and a range of classic dishes to delight all tastes.
Why not join us for a traditional Sunday roast or a quintessentially British afternoon tea?
Our food is prepared in our kitchens to ensure the best quality and taste reaches your table.
We look forward to welcoming you.

Enjoyed a beautiful breakfast on the terrace, tranquil and perfectly positioned to enjoy the sunshine but shaded enough not to be too hot. The hound joined us and was very much spoilt by staff. Would dine for breakfast everyday if I could.
I made a booking for outside dining at 11am, hoping to have brunch on my birthday. When we arrived at 11am we were told that the breakfast menu had finished and the main menu didnt start until 11:30. I am unclear why I could book to dine when there were no menus available at that time.
The staff all seemed very stressed and were keen to let us know how busy they were, felt like an inconvenience us being there and asking for the bill for the drink we felt obliged to buy.
Overall not a good experience.
Really good experience food excellent service great
Cannot fault anything about the service/food/drink we received. The setting was beautiful, the weather was hot. Would return when next in the area
A great venue with lovely views over Gorleston beach. Excellent food and atmosphere and just the best staff - helpful, courteous and couldn't do enough to make sure that our visit was an enjoyable experience. Will be recommending it!
Really nice table overlooking the sea. Waitress was very helpful and attentive.
Food was great and would love to return soon.
My first visit, and I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the relaxed feel of this place. We sat out on the beautiful terrace overlooking the beach and sea.
I definitely would return to try more dishes. The sea bass was delicious. Service was friendly, and catered well for our 1 year old.
I look forward to returning soon.
One of our favourite places but sadly the fish in our meals was overcooked and disappointing.
Amazing food but waiting times were ridiculous. Booked a table, arrived on time. Waited 20 mins to order a drink and that was only when we asked if we could be served.
Then waited an hour and 20 mins for food.
Food was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful and clean.
Great seating area , nice friendly staff good food
Cliff has always suffered (in our opinion) from slow service. 2 years ago a new maitre d’ was there and service improved a lot.
This year, it seems he has moved on, and another who told me “I’m one of those” because I asked if we could sit at a free table in the Sun, rather than one that we had been pointed to which was in the shade, and told “I hope you get sunburnt” when he left us at the table we pointed out was free, was somewhat amusing to me, some may not take it so lightly.
The cliff is a lovely place to eat, good food, nice views. But it is missing just that little bit of structure to make it awesome.
The food and service is Excellent and the views are stunning deafly would recommend this restaurant/hotel.
Absolutely amazing! The food was soooo good. It was very busy but the service was spot on. Highly recommended
I'm a regular at this hotel and never had a problem. Last night was not good. Table booked for 7:15 and didn't get our food until 9:15. Very slow service. Wasn't asked if we wanted anymore drinks. When we asked for the bill it didn't come. I just think they took on too many orders to cope. Unfortunately I knew this was a one off however I bought two new people to rhe cliff which wasn't a good first impression for them.
Sadly wasn’t very good. Not much ambience if you sit inside as everything is beige, literally, so not much of an atmosphere. Sadly the food was pretty poor for two of the four meals we had which we weren’t charged for in the end. Won’t be returning.
Brilliant no spoilers just go!
Excellent all round, highly recommend. Stunning view
Food was good but the service wasn't the best. It was pretty cold in the restaurant as the outside door were open.
The bar is beautiful! The service was exceptional, friendly and helpful staff.
Starters, mains and dessert were all incredible. Huge meaty chicken wings to start, juicy and tasty cod loin and the biscoff cheesecake was to die for.
Extremely reasonably priced for what we got, I would absolutely recommend to friends and I’ll be back very soon for more delicious food.
I had lunch at the Cliff with a friend who I had not seen for a long time, so we looked forward to having a leisuring meal. The food was delivered to our table very quickly and was well presented. However, we felt our service was a little bit rushed and it was all over very quickly. Other than that we had a lovely time after our lunch having a good catch up remaining at our table.
Would have loved to be outside but it was a little breezy. They've created a beautiful outside space.
Was moved from the Muse room to the bar which really do with a bit of an injection of character. A lovely airy space but lacking in decor.
Food great, staff lovely so overall still a great experiance.
Ate in bar area. Was slightly chilly due to windy conditions
Helpful friendly staff, great atmosphere, food lovely.
This was our first “proper” meal out since lockdown finished. Originally had booked outside but weather was pretty grim so asked to move inside which was accommodated. Great table, but it was freezing! We were camping so had really booked somewhere to warm up!
All the food was great and tasty. Good value. The only thing that lacked a little was the attentiveness of service. All very friendly, but had several moments where we seemed to be waiting ages for someone to come over.
The service was very good , the food also was nice . It was a bit cold but warmed up a big when the doors were shut at 5 . I didn’t like the choice of music , bit loud and intrusive but that’s just my opinion ! Overall very good .
After waiting until 17th May to take my elderly parents out so they could sit inside to dine, on arrival we were told we were seated outside, complained and said an inside table had been booked. Waitress moved us inside telling us the only table available was right near the open door when there was only 1 other table in there occupied at that time. We had blankets on our laps and were still frozen. Whilst eating our lunch another 2 tables from outside were brought in and seated indoors further down where a lot warmer. Again complained to manager and was given a reduction on the bill but should have been organised better, they knew what day it was being opened to seating inside and not opening the restaurant didn’t help either.
Great food and the service was very good with pleasant staff who were very friendly. Only downside was that the desert took a while to be served
The Cliff Hotel terrace is wonderful! Great view, buzzing, and food is improving! It’s my go to place for a meal and ambiance in Gorleston. The food is definitely getting better. They have a 7 and 9 out of ten for last nights meal from us. Nice that they have different specials every time we go! Last night we both had the fish specials mine was delicious my husband would have like it a bit more juicy. But that’s probably his fault for not liking dry ish food.
Overall a very enjoyable night! Please don’t let there be the necessity for another lock down!
Children’s menu is fantastic! Great choice and value
Quick and polite service. Food was piping hot and a lovely atmosphere. Really nice first meal out in a long time!!
Service was very good and quick and the staff were knowledgable and friendly. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and the large covered terrace was great too !
First I ordered a steak cooked rare. It came out more towards medium cooked. It was chewy and tasteless. The “hand cut chips” were like wedges I could cook in the oven at home brought from tesco. I sent the food back and the waitress and manager were lovely, kind and understanding. I changed my meal to a beef burger, it was dry, the tomato and lettuce tasted old and was not very nice overall.
Then tried dessert, I ordered the warm chocolate brownie sundae and received the salted caramel brownie. Gave up waiting for a waiter/waitress to come over to ask for it to be changed so I ate it. It was also dry and could eat better at McDonald’s.
Then lastly, the fire heaters were good until one was moved away from me for a couple coming in. This made the end of our meal cold and not enjoyable.
We won’t be coming back anytime soon.
Food was good! Service was poor not enough staff for volume of people. Don't get the Expresso Martini's they aren't made properly we had to send them all back and the staff were quite rude!
A lovely way to celebrate a family birthday xxxxxx
Excellent covid compliant set up. Staff friendly & efficient. Food was excellent & nice to enjoy a meal out, if a bit chilly!
Emily the waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious. Although, my tagliatelle could’ve done with a little more sauce but I still wolfed it down!
It was lovely to meet up with friends on the patio overlooking the sea. Great atmosphere and food. We were lucky to be seated near a heater, but would have been too chilly if that hadn't been the case.
Excellent service and fresh tasty food. Would thoroughly recommend.
Will definitely be back! Went here for some lunch and the whole overall experience was amazing. Friendly staff and one of our meals had to be sent back due to personal dietary issues and it came back very quickly and was even given a drink on the house! The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The drinks were also good! Blankets were such a lovely gesture and definitely helped with the chilly breeze!
Dessert range was a little too much chocolate and caramel.
