Dining at The Cliff Hotel
The Cliff Hotel dates back to 1890 when the original hotel was opened, in 1915 the building was ravaged by fire and demolished. The old staff accommodation was renovated into a new hotel, the building that we currently occupy today.
We have a vast selection of dining options from our relaxed art-deco inspired MUSE restaurant, our vibrant bar dining area or one of the biggest outside dining terraces in Norfolk.
Wherever you decide to eat our menus will give you a huge variety of choice from fresh fish to steaks and grills. Alternatively we have lighter snacks and a range of classic dishes to delight all tastes.
Why not join us for a traditional Sunday roast or a quintessentially British afternoon tea?
Our food is prepared in our kitchens to ensure the best quality and taste reaches your table.
We look forward to welcoming you.

All staff we encountered were polite , friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our meals, hot food served hot.
we absolutely love dining at the cliff - cant wait to come back :)
First time here for my wife's birthday meal. Lovely and clean with welcoming friendly staff. We went at 5pm and was nice and quiet. Good service and we loved the food. We had the 2 courses for £15 which is good value.
Amazing service and delicious food! Waiters were so friendly and made the overall experience great!! Will definitely be coming back and recommending to friends
We were very surprised at the upgraded dining areas - so nice - the food was really good - the staff could have been more attentive as it was quiet. We had to ask twice for our second drinks order.
Waited long time to be offered menu or drinks had to ask in the end but food was amazing best roast I’ve ever had out.
Very friendly staff nothing was too much trouble to help
For a start I didn’t like having at least six dogs in the restaurant while I’m dining . As regards the meal , no roast beef available, and this was at 13.00pm hardly the end of service ,the belly pork alternative was so tough I could not eat it.
My friend and I had a wonderful new year's lunch at the Cliff, the food was delicious, we had a table in the bar with a panoramic view of the beach and sea, and last but not least the service was outstanding. I will most certainly be returning.
Been here a few times and had lovely meals. Never had Sunday roast but thought we would try it. Yorkshire an Brussels were luke warm. Vegetables were very hard. And the beef was so tough and chewy we cudnt eat it. The waitress was really nice and said would we like another meat so we said yes OK can we have turkey. This took about 10 mins or more to come out to us so by the time it came to be honest we didn't really want it. Come on cliff hotel get your Sunday Roasts sorted you have such a lovely venue an setting. Staff are always friendly, hate having to write this but you need to put it right xx
lovely evening. Friendly helpful staff. Great food.
Lovely pre-panto lunch on New Years Eve. There was a limited menu but all 4 of us found something on the menu we wanted. I tried the falafel burger and it was delicious. Lovely calm and peaceful ambience.
Had an elder waitress, booked for a ta or of five and she asked if we wanted to sit together which I found strange!! Service was very slow and it wasn’t busy, took ages for food and then we asked for tea and had to wait half an hour for it but it was obviously sitting for a while as it was brewed when it turned up! Food was nice I had the carbonara but I think the cheese was overbearing in it
Love the new decor in the bar the lights make is very cosy, steak was lovely as always and great choice if drinks
We were treating an elderly relative from Surrey to lunch for her 88th birthday on 29th December at 12 noon. From arriving to leaving, the three staff who attended to us were excellent, good humoured, polite and happy to serve us. We'll done.
Very upset as on door to hotel it says face masks compulsory.
None of the staff wore masks, not even the waiting staff in the restaurant.
They can’t all be exempt.
Good food and reasonably priced but service was a bit slow even though it was not busy
Love the ambience of the bar restaurant and the individual booths.
Great service , so professional.
Good selection of drinks.
Food tasty and fresh , interesting menu.
Pate portion extremely small.
Would have preffered to have been offered parmesan on my carbonara rather than just having it put on.
Just small quibbles.
Overall lovely place to dine .
The restaurant looks lovely and staff were welcoming. However, the service was very slow and although it was busy I do feel we waited quite a long time for our food. The food was nice but unfortunately we decided not to wait for desert or coffee as it had taken an hour and a half to get one course!
Have dined here quite often during the summer and have always been more than happy with the service and food, but was disappointed this time.
Although not crowded, service was on the slow side and food quality very much below the standard we had come to expect.
Whilst allowances have to be made due to the current situation we still expect to have hot and presentable food provided which was not the case on this occasion.
In fairness, when we complained we were not charged for the offending meals so fair play to the hotel, but please endeavour to maintain your standards.
The waiter simply wanted to rush us, taking the plates as my wife took her last bite, then wanting to give me the bill, whilst we were still drinking.
Very irritating young man, needs training.
Food was awful service was poor had to argue to get a refund on the main
Had a nice lunch on the terrace with a couple of friends. They had heaters and blankets so it was fine. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
The newly decorated bar looked great, the food, service and staff you couldn’t fault.
We were served by Maggie who couldn’t have done more to make sure our experience was one to remember. She certainly went above and beyond to please us. We will certainly recommend afternoon tea at the Cliff to all our friends
This was the most wonderful lunch I have ever had, will be going back there again we wish for a meal out. We had the Sunday roast it was amazing. My son had the chicken burger even he was praising his meal and that's saying something, he is very fussy. Well done The Cliff Hotel
The Cliff Hotel, Gorleston has totally turned around. This is my third review this year (we go there often) and this is by far the most enthusiastic and positive review I have written. We were four adults and a baby of 9 months.
Firstily they got the supply of the high chair right. The service was fast and courteous. Despite the fact that they were very busy and my husband changed his order which resulted in a run to the kitchen! The food we ordered was extraordinarily good. Steak cooked perfectly (medium rare - not easy). Fish and chips - great and substantial (crispy chips with skins on and a large piece of fish with excellent batter). Lovely chicken Caesar and an amazing plaice with little potatoes and green beans in butter. Absolutely delicious and amazingly generous - a whole plaice when I was expecting just a small piece. We had to try a desert - sticky toffee pudding which was lovely. The little one had a children’s meal of fish fingers and veg. The fish was fresh fish in batter (not frozen sticks) and the veg was steamed Al dente as requested. No salt and not falling apart. I’ve never seen my grand son eat so much!! His inclusive pudding was a delicious chocolate brownie and strawberries. The children’s menu was very reasonable - sizeable and made to order.
So, well done The Cliff Hotel - welcome back to your old excellent standards!
A very enjoyable lunch, food was excellent. I would take friends and family and know that it would be a perfect experience.
Will be back in the New Year.
The new lit up trees and light decor gives the bar area a lovely modern feel. The staff are really friendly making sure you enjoy your visit .
My partner and i experienced a lovely evening last night at the Cliff Hotel.
The staff were friendly, the food and drinks came in good time and the dishes we had were absolutely delicious.
The rib eye steak in particular was ine of the best i have had.
Only downside was being seated too close to the entrance leading outside and being hit with that freezing breeze everytime is was opened.
Food very good and service outstanding. Beautiful ambiance.
Fish batter was tasteless and soggy, chips undercooked, chicken burger literally dripping with grease and again, fries were not cooked properly. Thoroughly disappointment with the food this time. Shame as the last time I visited it was nice.
Excellent service, staff very attentive and helpful.
My wife had the Turkey roast which was nice I had the Beef and being honest it a bit tough and slightly over cooked not pink fairly hard to cut through maybe it would have been better if it was slightly thinner, Real Gravy very nice , although a very good portion and good value , we will be back
Very good prompt, pleasant and friendly customer service although there was no Port available to drink!
Service was very sloppy, forgot one of our mains, had to ask them to take the others away and bring out when the missing meal was ready, 20 minutes later food came back and was all the same just kept warm, not ideal for steaks, was not asked if food was ok and had to go to bar to ask for drinks, it wasnt even busy, and waited 30 minuts for 1 childs desert that we has to ask twice for, shockingly bad service.
We had previously chosen to eat in the outside covered dining area but on this day it was quite cold and windy therefore we needed our coats on. The overhead heating was helpful but all heaters are on a time switch therefore they continually keep turning themselves off and we needed to ask many times for them to be switched back on. The staff were very polite, helpful and pleasant, but there were very long delays for the main course and sweets to arrive. Unfortunately when the main course arrived most of the food was either cold or just luke warm. The manager was very apologetic and replaced the food as quickly as possible. This time is was hotter and more eatable, however it certainly was not piping hot but was of good quality and enjoyable.
Overall stay was not great, staff were friendly, but the waiting between courses was terrible, plus had to wait a long time to be served, food was ok but not great, definitely wouldn’t come back.
Had a great meal, staff were lovely polite and helpful. Great ambience.
