    We really enjoyed our dinner. My plaice was beautiful, my husband really enjoyed his lamb. Lovely service, nice warm restaurant, pleasant atmosphere. Couldn’t fault it.

    Perfect friendly non intrusive Service ,Perfect spaced tables that respected privacy basically not sat on top of other Diners ,well thought Menu and food prepared and cooked perfectly. Overall we had a lovely Perfect Date night in a wonderful Quiet venue that we would thoroughly recommend to anyone

    We had a table for 6 for dinner. It would be fair to say that four people were very happy with the presentation and taste of the main meal, including chicken supreme, duck breast and salmon. Two people who had the pork chop were very disappointed, tough and no flavour. So it does depend on your choice. The servers were all charming and helpful, so no complaints there. Also both red and white wine choices were very palatable and reasonable. As the purpose of the meal was a reunion , we all had an enjoyable time in pleasant surroundings.

    Superb meal ! The staff were very attentive and made us feel very special as it was our anniversary. Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. We weren’t rushed and enjoyed a wonderful evening.

    This was a special occasion for our 25th anniversary and although it was stated in our booking just felt ordinary with nothing special about it First night just put anywhere as tables were not set and did not even know we had booked in This was a shame as we celebrated my wife’s 50 th here and it was great The food was great and could not fault it service slow on the first night If you ask what the occasion is maybe you should ask the person there name and make a little effort when seating them

    Somewhat disappointing. Apparently due to 'unforeseen circumstances' (60th birthday party booking) we were seated in the bar rather that the Du Vall restaurant, despite booking a week in advance. Some advance warning would have been appreciated. Duck breast main course arrived 8 minutes after ordering it and was overcooked. Assume the duck had been pre-cooked and heated up, or maybe rejected by another diner. Veg and trimmings were good and dish was well presented but for £20 you expect better. Amaretto tirimasu for dessert was disappointing. Couldn't taste any amaretto and overly dusted with cocoa powder. Barman did make a good espresso martini though. Receptionist mentioned the chef was leaving the establishment so that might explain it. Service was good and staff pleasant.

    A very reasonable menu with plenty to choose from. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant to anyone. I would definitely return.

    The staff were friendly and helpful , but some need more training. For example, I asked for a local ale, and I was told they didn't serve it. Another waiter said they did, but it was out of stock. A big hotel in Oxfordshire, and not a single local ale in stock.... The food was well presented, but didn't have a lot of flavour, I had the braised lamb. The red cabbage was hardly there at all... The tiramisu again didn't have much flavour at all, it had probably sat in the fridge for several days, the water at the bottom of the cup a clue. Finally, the menu on Open Table is three years old, it has mostly changed, with old prices.

    We ate on two nights. Six people on the first night and nine on the second. The food was delicious and well presented and the service throughout was exceptional. It won't be out last visit.

    Quite mediocre. Service was almost non-existent, took 10 minutes to get a menu over and to place our drinks order which then took a while to arrive by hand delivery rather than on a tray (a cocktail and a glass of wine). The cocktail was good but their most expensive red wine by the glass was quite bad. Food was bland, we had the slow cooked beef cheek and the lamb shank, both meat was very tender but the taste was underwhelming. After we finished our food we had 4 different staff pass our table without thinking to clear it (all had empty hands). In the end we ended up walking up to the bar to pay our bill. £62 for two drinks and two mains, quite underwhelming! Better off going to a pub and eat pub food, we expected much more as we've been here before for drink and afternoon tea and that was good.

    Superb meal! Always good food at The Holt but every course was outstanding this time. Goat’s cheese Special Starter was so tasty - Supreme Chicken main with garlic puree was very good indeed - and crumble dessert with cinammon was divine. Hats off to the chef - and exceptional customer service as ever. Thank you :)

    Rather small portions and the first course ( a fish cake) was tepid, although the food was tasty. We reported this and the next course was served on warmed plates. The waiting staff were extremely good and made us feel that our custom was valued.

    The lounge area is great to relax and have a drink before dinner. The food was outstanding and excellent value for money. The staff were polite and courteous, tables cleared quickly. Special mention to our waitress Julie .
