Delight in a delicious selection of sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream & jam and a selection of famous Doddington cakes and dainty sweet treats, located in our Restaurant situated next to the Café. Book for either the first sitting at 12pm or 12:15pm or for the second sitting 2:15pm or 2:30pm, Wednesdays through to Sundays. Please notify us of any Allergies or Dietary requirements in the 'special requests' when booking. Tables are booked for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Closed Mondays & Tuesdays.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea." - Henry James. Afternoon tea, the most quintessential of English customs is, perhaps surprisingly, a relatively new tradition. Whilst the custom of drinking tea dates back to the third millennium BC in China and was popularised in England during the 1660s by King Charles II and his wife the Portuguese Infanta Catherine de Braganza, it was not until the mid-19th century that the concept of 'afternoon tea' first appeared. Doddington Hall precedes the popularisation of tea. Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o'clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her. This pause for tea became a fashionable social event. During the 1880's upper-class and society women would change into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea which was usually served in the drawing room between four and five o'clock. Traditional afternoon tea consists of a selection of dainty sandwiches (including of course thinly sliced cucumber sandwiches), scones served with clotted cream and preserves (interestingly, scones were not a common feature of early afternoon tea and were only introduced in the twentieth century). Cakes and pastries are also served. Tea grown in India or Ceylon is served, poured into delicate bone china cups. Nowadays however, in the average home, afternoon tea is likely to be just a biscuit or small cake and a mug of tea. Celebrated out 39th Weeding Anniversary in a lovely restaurant with Aftermarket Tea. The food was super. Unfortunately the heat due to extreme temperatures made it a little difficult to cope. No air conditioning or blinds on the windows meant it was v hot. This has not put us off and will revisit on a cooler day.

The room was overbearing stifling due to the heatwave. Obviously not the fault of the venue. We requested a dietary request before arrival and with our server and they still got it wrong. Luckily we noticed or could have been an allergic reaction. Flowers were dead on the table. Food was well presented and delicious. Staff pleasant and courteous. Have had better afternoon teas. Sandwiches a lit dry and pork pie looked a little warm. Cakes and scones delicious. Probably wouldn’t return.

The service was outstanding,the person who served us was very smiley and welcoming.She wore a black patterned dress .Nothing was too much trouble for her, she explained everything and offered us more drinks.It was first class.The food was lovely,it was a lovely experience at a reasonable price.Would definitely recommend.

I went to celebrate my 60th birthday and wasn't disappointed , the afternoon tea was delicious very filling I did end up taking some home for later, the staff were friendly and very helpful and would highly recommend to family and friends.

Not the first time we have been, excellent and the waitresses so friendly, smart and obliging. If anything left not eaten ask if you want a goodie box to take remainder home.Access to the café,probably due to CovId, is from the farm shop so if raining take an umbrella as one has to go outside. I was on a small type buggy and had a job to get through to the café because of the freezers and the door being so narrow. Anyone on a roadtype would not have got through but probably a different way if one asks the farm shop staff. I did find a different way back to the carpark. Would certainly go again, came away stuffed and with a goodie box. One can buy vouchers for presents, would certainly recommend this

The tea served was tepid by the time the food arrived which was 20 minutes after we arrived. Sausage roll was hard to cut. We were bothered by wasps which spoilt it for us!

Lovely place for Afternoon Tea, staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and the food was all very nicely presented. We had the traditional afternoon tea which consisted of a selection of three different sandwiches and one sausage roll on the first layer of the tea stand. The second was a vast selection of cakes and the top layer was scones, jam and clotted cream. For us the sweet selection was a little too much and just a little bit sickly. For us personally we would have preferred a little more savoury items but if you have a sweet tooth then this is ideal for you. There was a lot to eat for two people and recommend that you ask for a little box to take your cakes home for later. Its really lovely for a treat and we would definitely go again.

I love Doddington Halland visit fairly frequently. This was the first Traditional Tea I've had there. Excellent quality food. Lovely relaxed, atmosphere but attentative staff. Just really enjoyed ourselves.
