The meal at Don Giovanni's that we had on Friday evening was lovely. Unfortunately we ran out of time to sample a dessert from your selection as we were going to see a show that evening however the food was top class. The room was bustling and it made for a thoroughly enjoyable start to the weekend.
As usual came up to expectations, and with the August offer even better
The meal was lovely. However, the service was very slow - we had been seated over 15 minutes before our order was taken. We then waited quite a while for our starters & again for our main courses.
We brought our friend to celebrate her birthday n have a lovely time, the staff was very friendly n the food was delicious .
Great food and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family and my husband and I will most definitely be returning!
Excellent food great atmosphere & service from all staff with none of the attitude you can experience at San Carlo. Definitely recommend getting glass of prosecco while perusing the extensive menu. The best Italian meal I've had in Manchester for years.
No services at all! No one ever came and ask if everything ok only able to get a waitress to get us thedesert menu but only came back with 1 menu for 6 of us to share and no one came back to ask for our desert order! Next table even worst, the waitress put one full glass of white wine over the lady..hair,back, dressandpants all wet.
The desert took 45 mins to come after few reminders.
At the end took me almost 20 mins to get a waiter to get me the bill then no one came back, so I just put the cash with little tips on the table and walked away.
Poor dining experience and not worth.
My partner and I ate at Don Giovanni's for our anniversary. The service was great, the staff were friendly and gave us just enough time between courses so we didn't feel rushed. The food was really tasty and we had Cocktails which were good enough as a dessert! We both enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere of the restaurant. The only negative thing I would say is that it seemed a little overcrowded, tables crammed in, it was a Saturday night though so it may have been busier than other nights.
Everything was perfect !
Fabulous food. Excellent service. We will be returning
We arrived early for our meal, no problem in getting our table.
Had to wait nearly 20mins. before waiter brought the menu.
when meal arrived, fries did not. Waited for a short while to see if the waiter would fetch them.
Eventually had to ask a passing waiter. The excuse given for the delay was that the original fries were overcooked.
Will not be going again, the atmosphere felt as impersonal, not friendly.
This restaurant was book for a birthday dinner and father day and it live up to all our expectations great good great service lovely staff
I booked the table a couple of hours before eating and when we arrived there was a lot of people already waiting, so I thought we would be waiting a long time. However this wasn't the case we were seated quickly and the lady on reception had apologised about us having to wait as we arrived and as we were seated. The food and service were excellent, the atmosphere in the main restaurant was buzzing and the only reason I marked ambience down was because we were seated in a back room away from main restaurant which whilst I understand we booked last minute I personally felt it impacted on our dining experience. I would eat there again if I was in the main restaurant and I would recommend the food to others.
Good menu with large variety of dishes. Excellent presentation and all courses were delightful. The live singer, who has a fantastic voice, definitely provided great ambiance to the occasion. Service was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
The food and atmosphere were very good and the waiting staff were very friendly and understanding. However they were run off their feet and it seemed as if the kitchen was not coping with the volume of orders. We sat down at 8pm, starters didn't arrive until 8.45 and mains at 9.30. We were a table of 2 so this shouldn't have taken this long. We were looking forward to dessert but by that time we were tired and left without dessert or coffee. We told the manager who took our payment how dissapointed we were with the slow service and she told us we should come during the week instead as they don't have as many large parties! Not really an appropriate comment! So don't go to don giovannis at the weekend!
The food was beautiful; each course was better than the last and was very well presented. Starters were ribs and mozzarella fritters and mains were chicken alla napolini and duck with a side of Parmesan roast potatoes, all of which were delicious.
However, the service at Don Giovannis was severely lacking. We were seated in what I can only imagine was the worst table in the restaurant (despite booking over a week in advance). We were sat at a table pushed up against a pillar and was directly adjacent to another table of two (much like we were on a double date!!) Also our table was in a really awkward position, placed in between a table of 8 and the dessert counter, which meant we kept getting bumped nearly every time a waiter or customer passed through, and made us just want to leave as quickly as possible. The waiting staff were dismissive an inattentive and were too busy to request any kind of feedback when presenting us with the bill, and although they provided us with a comments card they didn't provide a pen or pencil so we were unable to fill this out
As the food was great, I would return again as part of a larger group whereby the levels service might be better and we might be seated in a more comfortable area of the restaurant.
We are in Manchester on business and this is the second time in 2 nights we've chosen to eat here. It remaiins a fine place to eat, a good range on the menu, interesting wine choices and high quality. The service continues to be erratic - lovely people, but inconsistent. A minor problem and well worth putting up with
Hadn't been here for years, but it retains its attraction as a fine place to eat in the centre of the city. Their wine list has some interesting Italian wines and the menu enough variety for us to return the following night. Good fish, and home made pasts. Service patchy - sometimes w had 2 waitresses at the table, sometimes we had to go get them. Worth that minor inconvenience though
Went here for a pre-theatre meal. Good menu selection and some nice wines. The service was excellent, efficient but not too fussy.
This was a fine experience at a good Italian restaurant. Staff was very helpful as was the manager on duty. Setting was superb and location is perfect.
My friend and I went for a pre theatre meal. The service was efficient and there were no worries about time. The food was xcellent and the pre theatre menu wasngood value for money.
We have eaten at Don Giovannis nearly every time we go out in Manchester - which is at least once a month. Normally we have always had a good meal and excellent service. However this time both the food and the service were poor. The lasagne was overcooked and was mostly a tomato mush. The prosecco was not cold - even after I felt the warmish bottle and I asked for it to be put on ice before the bottle was opened and served. The 2for1 cocktails were OK and my a la carte specials were very good.
It was a Saturday 17.30 but it was busier than I have seen it. However it was my 60th birthday treat ,before the concert at Bridgewater Hall, and we took some friends who had never been before and given we were complementing the food and the service beforehand it was a real let down.
last minute booking here, liked the sound of the 241 cocktails. had no idea there was a reasonably priced pre theatre set meu which all three of us had. food was good. lots of staff around, thought we would have been approached multiple times, however not the case. just the right amount of attention given. it is quite the well oiled machine.
Place looked really nice, and there were plenty of staff available, however the music was too loud for dining, so much so the waiter could not hear me to place an order meaning the ribs and chicken dishes i ordered became olives and gnocchi. We didn't complain as we were pre theatre and didn't have the time to wait. My wife was offered black pepper, she refused he misheard and continued to serve black pepper on her meal. The table next to us had a terrible time simply asking for another plate!
The food wasn't great, the Gnocchi was plain and the sauce didn't have much to it, and my wife's carbanara was far too salty.
Although there were plenty of staff it hey didn't really pay attention we had to call them over several times we were only offered a drink once so had to grab there attention for another and again asked for the bill twice before it arrived. Cheekily they add the service charge in the bill but all credit to the chap taking our money he did point this out to us so we were given the option. Disappointing start to our evening out in Manchester thankfully it did get a lot better. ... Sorry based on our experience I wouldn't recommend.
Went to celebrate a girlfriends birthday. Food excellent service great.Excellent value for money Highly recommend
Really lovely evening at Don Giovanni's, food and atmosphere was fantastic. Will definitely be returning soon.
We chose this restaurant because it was near the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester where we were going for a show. The restaurant was lively , just what you expect in an Italian restaurant and the service was excellent. There was a great choice on the menu and we both enjoyed our meals . We would certainly go there again .
We were early, having booked a table for 5.30 but the restaurant filled up very quickly - always a good sign. We only had a mains and sweet as 3 courses are too much these days, but the meal was served quite quickly, the food and wine excellent and we finished with a coffee. No complaints at all.
restaurant was busy, as usual, and that meant a little bit longer to wait for courses, but OK considering. The dep fried brie we had for starters was too tepid with a cool tomato relish. Quite a bland sensation and when asked what we thought and told them the management said it couldn't be cooked too hot as mozarella would be too runny. Umm. Other places manage that.
Apart from that the food was fine except my verdura (broccoli, peas and beans) were completely unseasoned and again a bit luke-warm (please immerse in butter and ignore the health police!).
Overall, a bit disappointed from last vist, but still like DG's because it has good atmosphere, acceptable food at OK prices and staff are good.
One thing to remember. If you're having a 'brief encounter' type meal with your hot date don't expect a quiet, intimate, romantic evening. The echoing from the place is quite dramatic and if you have a table of lads nearby determined to impress their catches for the day you may get to know more tahn you really want to.
Great atmosphere , good food and great service , would defo recommend
The staff were welcoming and attentive. We had a drink at the bar before dinner - an excellent Cosmopolitan was delivered with style and a smile.
The whole dining room was so pretty with white fairy lights twinkling on twigs which reflected off the mirrored walls.
The starter of Frito Misto was good; the main course lasagne was ok - nothing special, but the scallops on pea puree were a massive disappointment - the scallops were chewy and the peas were an alarming khaki colour - this looked and tasted as if it had been reheated or kept under a heat lamp for some time.
we shared an excellent Panna Cota at the end, so finished on a high note!
When I offered my feedback to one of the front of house team, it was dismissed - "all our food is cooked fresh and to order" - a great shame - this was not my idea of freshly cooked food - we are unlikely to return.
Myself and a couple of friends went for a catchup evening on a business trip. The food was amazing, the cocktails - fantastic! Service was slightly slow but and forgot about our first order of cocktails and got our order wrong but made up for it by complimentry cocktails on the house! The food was fantastic, couldn't fault it. I ordered a seafood risotto with fresh muscles, prawns and scallops and it was brilliant! I ordered the proffiterols for dessert and im walkways weary as restaurants usually use the frozen ones and they're never cooked properly with it still being half frozen on the inside. These however, were perfect, fresh cream on the inside and covered in chocolate! Im back in Manchester next week and have highly recommended this restaurant again so hopefully we go! Loved it! Thank you! P.s waiter was gorgeous! Haha!!
Great restaurant and great food. Very busy and buzzing atmosphere. Love it - will be back
I booked a table at this restaurant as a birthday treat for my mum. I was bitterly disappointed with my meal and the service.
The starter came within 5 minutes of ordering it. I had ordered smoked salmon with rocket and lemon. It came as a roll of salmon wrapped in rocket and was poor in presentation.
Then both our mains came within 5 mins after my starter had been eaten.
I ordered a steak with fries and a side salad of beef tomatoes, red onion and basil.
My mum had monk fish and Parma ham. She had also ordered fries as a side dish.
Both our side dishes, did not arrive and we had to ask several times to our waitress.
My mums fries arrived after she had finished her main course and looked like oven chips from a bag.
My salad was so poor. It consisted of dry sliced beef tomatoes, thrown on red onion and a leaf of basil. I found it very poor and not value for money. I have eaten better quality salads from Tesco.
I have taken a photograph of my salad as I was so horrified at the presentation.
I had to ask several times for my glass of Prosecco as well.
I was gobsmacked when the bill arrived to charge service charge. Normally, I don't mind paying but on this occasion I refused due to the above.
This restaurant looks stylish, but my overall impression is that they want your money and then want you out with poor quality of food at expensive prices. Sorry but I will not be returning or recommending this resturant.
We decided on Don Giovannis at the last minute, booked a table online with 30 mins to go and we were not dissapointed, the lunch menu had a good selection and i chose the calamari & lobster ravioli and my friend had bruscetta & the ravioil too, they were all well made & delicious, i would go again without question
lovely restaurant, tables not too close together so felt spacious. Food was excellent, had the pre theatre menu which was excellent value for money. Staff were very attentive service was very efficient.
We had booked our table early due to going to the theatre. I didn't even realise they had a pre-theatre menu which was a pleasant surprise. The food was lovely and service was good. Definitely recommend this restaurant
The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. We were there for a pre theatre meal and we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves. The food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. We will definitely eat there again!
very busy place with a fantastic atmosphere.waiting staff very friendly.food was very good. we had a brilliant night before hitting the bars in Manchester.near to palace theatre about 5 mins walk.
Having seen previous reviews saying piano music and singer, it was disappointing to have loud dance music blasting out. The place was packed with diners and the aim of the waiting staff was to turn tables over quickly. Our mains arrived before they had cleared away our starters. Food was okay but nothing to write home about. Overpriced for what it is.
