Double Zero Venice
Double Zero is a plant-based pizza concept from Matthew Kenney in Venice, CA. Serving small plates, organic pizza prepared in a wood burning oven, vegan ice cream and organic wines, Double Zero showcases Matthew Kenney’s delicious, beautiful, vibrant, and nutritious cuisine in one of LA's favorite neighborhoods.
When it comes to what we eat, we see things differently than others. Aligned with a world rapidly embracing the need for a healthier diet and an increase in plant-based food consumption, we are crafting the future of food®
The food here is excellent as well as safe to eat for dairy allergies and vegans! The service is outstanding ! Love this place
Was so excited to try Double Zero, as my friends and colleagues have been to the NY location and I am dairy free. The food was delicious and our server was great. In regards to Covid cleanliness, while the servers were in masks and gloves, one of the servers let a couple walk right in who did not have masks on. This made us super uncomfortable, especially because this was our first dining experience since quarantine began (100+ days ago). They were taking all the proper precautions, but when they didn’t turn the couple away or ask them to put on their masks, it was a major turnoff. We ate outside, but if you eat inside, they have dividers up between the communal tables, definitely felt like people were seated way too close to one another.
VERY yummy vegan food, however, a bit expensive.
Amazing food and very friendly staff! Best plant based pizza!!!! Will be back
Excellent plant-based pizza, with unique creations. The "Pepperoni" pizza was outstanding - I have never had tomato sauce so fresh and delicious.
The Truffle Pizza was good but was overloaded with - in my opinion - too much chewy kale, which took away from the mushrooms and unique truffle flavor, so I would not recommend that pizza. The "meatballs" were outstanding.
The two pastas we ordered were the "Cacio e Pepe", which I personally really enjoyed, and my two guests thought had too much pepper. Again, I loved it.
We all found the Pesto Pasta a bit bland. I think with a bit more salt, it could have been really good.
Overall, I would go back, for sure!
I get the covid restriction. I’m a nurse and even got the damned virus. So I really get it.
But the experience left us both disappointed in our first restaurant outing since the lockdown. The service was really mediocre. I understand the benefit of the contactless approach but not at the expense of quality service and human interaction. Masks contribute to the barriers in human connection. Our server, albeit very sweet, was neither knowledgeable about the menu nor interested in discussing food and wine we were considering. Zero connection with us. It was odd. So we spent the first 30 mins on our iPhones navigating this contactless menu. Looking at my phone at a restaurant with a dear friend whom I hadn’t seen since the pandemic was irritating to both of us.
A woman walked around the restaurant going up to some tables to greet them. (There were only a few groups dining in that night. Monday night. It was quiet). It was strange she never came near us.
The food was good. Eggplant Parmesan and artichokes were amazing.
We spent a good amount of money that night. Paid a 20% tip even though a tip for terrible service should be no tip. But I’m not cold hearted.
I’ve gone to many of Matthew’s restaurants over the years. (Pure Foods was my jam.) I know that he represents quality and this place can do a lot better. Even with covid restrictions in place, even though it’s on stinkin Lincoln and ambience is missing, there is much room to grow.
HIGHLY recommend the eggplant parm. You would never be able to tell the cheese is plant-based. Delicious.
A wonderful start to life of freedom again. They thoughtfully secured the tables with plexiglass and adorned the tables with alcohol bottles and florals. Good as usually yummy food and we finished all our plates to the last crumb. Even the busy outside pick up area full of people for delivery and take out orders, didn’t interfer with the overall outdoor dining experience, which we had taken for granted for so many years until it was taken away from us.
1st date 😁
Everything was PERFECT. The Truffle Pizza and Caesar Salad were amazing. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Would go back again in a heartbeat!
Surprising flavors and ability to navigate within the plant base world.
Will be back for sure.
The food was amazing!!! Fresh and absolutely delicious. Everything made in house to perfection. Our waiter was delightful as well. We will be back!
The service was quick and very helpful for your diet preferences such as gluten free.
Great pesto pizza and meat balls
Great food. Horrible service. Bring your patience cap. The servers are seriously flaky. Every time
They have gotten order wrong.
Went to lunch Friday with a friend. Ordered the truffle pizza and a caesar salad to split. Salad never made it alas. They took it off the bill and gave us dessert for free which was nice but maybe they need a second server? Seemed to be one fella seating and serving all tables (about 50 seats/half in use?) and we sat for some time before we got water or a drinks order in. Pizza was good but flavor overall was a little bland. Creamy but could’ve used a little kick (garlic? Black pepper?). Dough was good. Tiramisu textures (faux mascarpone and ladyfingers) were spot on but I didn’t get any espresso taste which was disappointing. Will have to give it all a second chance sometime?
My favorite pizza is the truffle one ! So yummy
Their margheurita and tee truffle pizzas were awesome.
It was my second time. Service was a bit slow and our pizza took forever to come. Still taste great
Double Zero has a great atmosphere and the food was delicious! One of the best plant based restaurants I’ve been to.
Double Zero is one of our all time faves. The food is fantastic and the servers treat us like family. It's a bit noisy because we're all having a blast, but the quality outweighs a bit of noise! Already planning on returning.
Best vegan pizza! Just as good as the NYC location.
We would recommend this restaurant with reservations. On the positive side...this was our second visit to Double Zero Venice and once again, the food was amazing. Fresh, inventive, high quality plant based cuisine that we love and crave. The host who sat us was welcoming and our server was as well. The restaurant was clean, warm, inviting and a place you want to sit and dine with loved ones any day of the week. Our one complaint/concern is the timing of items coming out of the kitchen. It really is something worth mentioning, despite loving everything else about Double Zero Venice. Our server told us that items might come out at different times but we did not really understand how different she meant. The pizza arrived first...long wait...salad next...long wait...one pasta...long wait...another pasta...long wait...appetizer/starter came out dead last. We are a family of four having dinner together and this was really unacceptable to us. Most people dining at this restaurant are dining with others (friends/family) and this kitchen flow issue leaves some diners with food, some diners without food and then everyone either eating alone or waiting until everyone has their food and then eating cold food. I really hope Double Zero remedies this situation because we want to go back but will not if there are more than two of us in our party.
Absolutely fantastic. The cauliflower appetizer and truffle pizza were to die for. Two thumbs up! Will travel over an hour to get here any day!
Very loud, could not hear conversation with my friend
What a pleasant surprise it was to discover this plant based restaurant with really amazing pizza (like in Italy) and fantastic plant based meatballs and tomato sauce !
I am recommending it to all my friends and clients :)
Amazing crust! Loved the kale and mushroom pizza. And the tiramisu was delicious!
Delicious!!! Even my non-veg friends said they want to come back.
Great pizza and good ambiance . Not a huge fan of the communal table thing, but otherwise it was a great experience
First time. Will be long time patron. Impeccable staff. Tasty food. Very tasty. Love the communal tables. Made new friends. Overall, visit DoubleZero.
Amazing vegan food and I am not even vegan. I think I could eat their pepperoni pizza every day and die happy. The taste of the pepperoni was so similar to real pepperoni I was blown away. We also got the gigante bean pizza and it was super unique and delicious. Very happy we tried this place and will definitely be coming back.
Overall a great place. Love the Peperoni Pizza.
It was my birthday and I needed all of my friends to experience the incredible restaurant that is Double Zero. Thank you for another incredible meal and incredible service. See you all very soon.
My husband and I aren't vegan but we LOVED this place! The food is incredible, the service was great and the atmosphere was very nice. For sure coming back!
The real winner here is the crust- it’s chewy and crispy and exactly the pizza crust of my dreams. We had the pesto and truffle cream pies, both delicious- the house made cheese is more like a Neufchâtel here than a mozzarella- and enjoyed our meal. I was a little surprised that reservations got us communal bench seating, it got very loud and curtailed our stay, but the food and service was lovely.
I was visiting family in Santa Monica and they were so very excited to bring us to Double Zero. The 4 of us eat plant based and it is so refreshing to be able to order anything from the menu. Unfortunately on this Saturday night, they were out of chopped salad and Caesar, no Romaine lettuce. The Baked Meatballs and the Pizzaiola (cauliflower) were both excellent.
For the pizza- the crust was amazing. We tried 3 pizzas- the PEPPERONI, the TRUFFLE and the PESTO. I wanted to try the MARGHERITA but was overruled by the table. The flavors on the pizzas were not well balanced. The PEPPERONI had too much agave. The TRUFFLE was overwhelmed with the flavor of truffle. Not too much to say about the PESTO other than I would have preferred the MARGHERITA.
Ambiance was good although a bit too loud and quite a bit too dark. Had to use the candle on the table to read the menu.
Service was lacking. Never received the second glasses of wine ordered. The server kept mentioning it was last call to order but then never brought our check. When we finally received our check, we were charged for the wine that was never received.
Food can be good but inconsistent, one time your pepperoni pizza is mild and well balanced the next time its spicy af, one time your cacio pasta is creamy and perfect the next time its really dry. Wine list is HORRIBLE, the absolute worst! Serving staff is pretty sweet but disorganized and stretched at time. Their house phone is going off disturbing diners . When the food is "on" its a great plant based place to eat! When the food or service is "off" its a tough pill to swallow as its expensive!
AlwYs great, food consistent
Both my fiance and I are not dairy eaters so finding this plant-based gem where we can enjoy pizza again was such a treat! The service and food was impeccable and we found out that they deliver! Will definitely be back.
