I am a picky California woman who has scowled at Mexican food in the UK for 20 years, until now. I have been to DT 5 times since July. Every time I go, the food and drinks are just scrumptious. I always bring new friends and I know they bring friends. I want this place to remain popular so I can keep enjoying it. Well done guys. This visit made me squeal at the choripapa and mole flavours. The Tommy’s margarita is perfection! Your staff is always the best too. Attentive, fun, and just come across like they’re having a nice time even tho they’re on their feet working their buns off!
I loved it here.
Having read recent reviews I expected to be cold and treated poorly. Fortunately this could not have been further from the truth! Our Mexican waiter was extremely attentive and congenial, and the place was warm and cosy, with the door closed!
This is the most cordon bleu Mexican food I've had (having lived in the Hispanic part of San Francisco, and visited Mexico) Beautiful tacos that delight with every flavoursome bite. And the classic Margherita took me back to my delicious taqueria nights in SF. A dreamy reminder, thank you. We enjoyed the music too!
Food is decent, pretty good actually. Venue smells terribly of old frying oil and is freezing cold as the front door is jammed open.
The tacos are the best in Bristol with great taste combinations! I highly recommend the potato and chorizo
The staff were the best and food delicious
Fresh, very authentic, really yummy Tacos. Like being in Mexico City or eating from a taco truck in California (but with a fun, funky atmosphere.)
All the Tacos were fantastic! I especially like the lamb one and the mint style sauce worked perfectly. Cocktails were also very nice and the value is a key selling point
Food was a little overpriced for what you got but over all was delicious and would definitely come back. Cocktails where great too.
Forgot our order I the kitchen but the waitress was on the ball the whole time - she was great and turned a negative experience into a positive one. She also gave us two drinks on the house. Good value for money and food was tasty.
Absolutely superb evening here! The food is incredible, the cocktails are really good, and the service was excellent. Cannot wait to return!!
Loved it, excellent food quality, great service! The only thing was that we thought the guacamole portion was a bit small, and while seated on the main floor it felt a bit open/strange with the open space and high top tables, and maybe lights a bit too bright. Just nit-picking as everything was amazing, loved it, thank you :)
Amazing food and drinks, will definitely come back again.
My friends hate going with me to Mexican restaurants in the UK because I’m highly critical. I’m from California and it’s hard to please me. I get that some ingredients aren’t available but even when they are some chefs don’t know what to do with them. I expect it to at least be good food.
Last night my belly and taste buds were over the moon. I had the mezcal margarita which was super smokey. I loved it but my friends weren’t keen. Next I tried Tom’s margarita which was served perfectly to my taste, on the rocks no salt! Good tequila does not need salt!
Chips, salsa and guacamole were the perfect salty accompaniment to margaritas. The “chilaquiles” with pineapple salsa were also a treat. We had 3 portions!
I had the carnitas quesadilla. Carnitas perfectly cooked and the quesadilla gooey. It was super filling. I ordered a fish taco I couldn’t eat but brought it home to my husband and he loved it. I did taste what I think was a tomatillo salsa on it and it was quality!
My friends also tried the jackfruit taco and the tinga de pollo, which were wolfed down with enthusiasm.
Our waitress was helpful and super friendly and I noticed she was working the tables with no problems. There was good music playing and a general good vibe.
Don’t waste your time going to places with quirky ingredients that would be great if they knew how to use them. Those places should stick to Spanish food which they do much better.
Mexican food, especially tacos are meant to be simple but flavourful and Downtown Taqueria gets that completely. I will be back!
No images of the food because we were too busy eating it!
Ps I would love you to make a Chorizo con Papa taco. (Mashed papa please)
Staff were amazing! And so friendly! It was my sisters birthday and we had the best tacos and margaritas ! Authentic taste and variety! Will be back for more! 😊 also the music was on point!
The food was great, really tasty and worth the visit. The service let the visit down. Long waits to be served, to get orders taken, to get anything brought to us to the point where we were just about to ask where our food and drinks were when they appeared. It wasn’t overly busy either which is a shame as it could have been so much better
I always bring my family here from Swindon! Best tacos in Bristol! Great cocktails and menu is changed regularly so we have something new every time we visit. Good for sharing food (like tapas style) and more quality over quantity. Cocktails are 2 4 £10 on happy hour and tacos are £5 each ( but they do 4 for the price of 3 I think) so the bill can rack up very easily ! (But definitely worth it!) Can’t wait until my next visit.
I’m not vegan or veggie but LOTS of choice. We had a veggie sharing board and didn’t miss the meat.
Lovely friendly staff, great food that is very filling. We all enjoyed it.
Delicious food, smashing cocktails and lovely service. I'll see you again soon, Downtown Taqueria!
Great place and fantastic Mexican food! Just a shame we could not tried the pork and chicharron tacos!
Some of the most enthusiastic staff I've encountered and the whole place had a fantastic casual atmosphere, and whilst the food was nice I've had much better tacos for less elsewhere.
Food here is so fresh and tasty. So many different flavours all packed into a soft taco. Swiftly prepared and presented beautifully. Tasty cocktails too.
If you're a foody you have to go here!
Our experience was very disappointing. The starter was really salty, so much so I couldn't eat it. Our main course (a veggie taco sharing board) was cold - not slightly warm, cold. The taco shells were soggy from where they must have been left on the side for too long which made is really unpleasant to eat. When I mentioned this, the waitress said that this shouldn't be the case as they bring everything over as soon as it's ready... Which obviously wasn't true in this case.
The service in general was good and our waitress was very friendly and topped up our water, asked if we needed more drinks etc.
The door of the restaurant was open as it was a hot evening - but this meant there were a lot of flies in the restaurant which ruined the ambiance a bit!
I requested a table in a quiet spot of the restaurant (as my husband is hard of hearing) which they kindly accommodated and it was quieter than sitting in the main part of the restaurant.
The cocktail menu was great and they had a good selection of beer, but the food wasn't good at all.
Overall disappointing and I wouldn't recommend.
Pre theatre meal, teenage kids loved it... (so did the Mum's). Very friendly staff.
The food & drink is good (w/ the exception of the classic margarita) but the service is absolutely appalling. It was my 4th (& last) visit to Downtown Taqueria & frustratingly every time I have received the same terrible service- unacceptably long waits drink, wrong food order, inconstant attentiveness, items randomly added to bill & just a general lack of care or compassion from all staff. I really wanted to like it, as Mexican is my favourite, hence the revisits & they have the potential to be great but its always been extremely disappointing & frustrating!! You
Great food and cocktails and a fun atmosphere, with really nice service
Really nice set up. Good tacos and good cocktails. 4-6pm happy hour is great. Be careful with the habanera sauce (brown sauce) its crazy hot.
Really nice to order a range of tacos and share with everyone.
