Doyles on the Beach
Having visited 10 years ago whilst on business I was looking forward to taking my family back there.
What a disappointment.
Very mediocre and clearly living off
We enjoyed Doyle’s
But thought the prices for food were over the top especially as the serving size was small and chips very poor taste Food quality otherwise very good
Ambience was magnificent as is the location
Good choice of wines but again a little pricy
Meal was great, staff were exceptional. We had the hot and cold seafood platter. We were disappointed the lobster mornay was no longer on the platter, but the platter was still great. We come twice a year and have the same every time. Haven't found a platter as good anywhere else yet.
Expected Doyles to provide excellent fish dishes which they certainly did. What makes Doyles exceptional is the small attention to detail by there staff. A throughly enjoyable Sunday lunch at a restaurant I would throughly recommend.
Lovely family friendly restaurant. Looking forward to my next visit.
A very enjoyable evening with a superb lobster mornay as my main. However at $190 nz for the medium size , thought it was a bit pricey. .
All other dishes were great , including some wonderful chips.
The house wine was good value too. Only problem was that we were served by 6 different members of staff , so continuity was lost.
The food was quite good. Lovley setting looking out to the beach/ water as the sun went down. Very attentive service .
Celebrated mother in laws 90th BD with our American guests - Food though pricy was very good with good sized portions - all in all very impressed
Fantastic food, a view overlooking the bay, great service and value for money. What more could you ask for?
The evening was perfect, weather warm with a perfect sunset. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful in making food selections. The food was well presented and enjoyed by our overseas visitors. Excellent evening.
Prawn Cocktail was ‘big standard’ nothing special.
Fish Pie similar to what’s available in. Reasonable Glasgow Pub
Prices too high for basic food.
Really enjoyed the barramundi and the fish pie was outstanding.
We felt that the $47 price tag for fish and chips was excessive. The food was excellent but given we had to choose between chips and salad for a $47 main we felt it was overpriced. Gorgeous spot though looking back over Sydney and watching the sunset
Great location but over priced for the quality of the food
Thoroughly enjoyable! Would love to go again as it ticked all our boxes.
Nice fresh fish, wine by the glass could improved a bit. Nice athmosphere!
our request for a table with a nice view was certanly aknowledged. we had a great night, everything was just so nice!
was fantastic. staff very attentive and food amazing
Great views and food.
The food was very vice top quality but very expensive. I would definitely go back it was well worth the price.
Had a fantastic birthday lunch at Doyle’s for my
Husband on Saturday. The seafood platter was outstanding. The best seafood we’ve had in Sydney. The setting and the excellent service from the staff topped off a fantastic afternoon. If I could give 6 stars I would.
Lunch at Doyle’s was great, the food was fresh and tasty just like home. The price was reasonable considering it was at Watson Bay. The atmosphere was peaceful as we had front seats by the water. It was great as I was able to talk to my husband in peace and enjoy our moment together. Thank you for this experience. Wish you guys were closer to home.
We had a very enjoyable day everything was perfect especially the weather we were very lucky in that regard.
Doyle’s is always good. Prawns were fresh and delicious. Service excellent
I have been looking forward to visiting Doyle’s for a number of years. Took someone 15 mins to greet us at our table, the service for the rest of the night was basic at best. The menu was great but the food was very average. The menu itself was not overpriced but was was put in front of us certainly did not live up to the menu. We spent $280 for the meal, which is perfectly reasonable for a frat experience but this was certainly not the case. I got the impression they were relying on their reputation, but...,very disappointed!!
Special lunch, food was ok but not spectacular for the price, wine glasses are poor quality and wine was expensive for what it was. Service was ok but not especially attentive and missed the salad. Happy to have been there but would not rush back or recommend as a stand out place to go. Lastly got fried by the sun.
Main enjoyment was the fish was stunning, rest left a little to be desired for the price.
This was our first time at the restaurant after promising ourselves to be there for years. We do not live nearby at all. We enjoyed the view, excellent, helpful service especially when I realised I needed to make a change to my order for dietary reasons. No problem! The seafood and fish and sauces and salads and desserts and drinks and accompaniments were just right and delicious. A question though on what potatoes are used for the chips? Something not quite right there although they were cooked beautifully. A minor point but if heard from others too maybe consider changing the potato type used. Nevertheless we look forward to returning again soon and with family and friends.
Everything was great! The service was fantastic, great help especially with the suggestions. The only fault is lack of options in terms of availability of some seafood. Best to pre-book what seafood you would like to guarantee it’s available. Overall happy with everything and will visit again.
great food and service - love coming here - beautiful view of the harbour...
Throughly enjoyed our experience at Doyle’s. A little pricey but would definitely recommend
Barramundi and “chips” in quotes because I do not expect somewhere with Doyle’s reputation to serve frozen chips and overcooked ones at that. I have tasted much better fish cheaper. My brother’s lamb, on the other hand, was delicious. I know we get one of the best views ever, but I expected more from the food.
Most of the staff we’re excellent but the girl who served us obviously preferred to be somewhere else. Surly.
One of the best restaurants in Sydney. Always an experience with fantastic food.
Food was delicious. Service wasn’t as good as I would have liked. Had to try to catch the waiters eye to get more wine and it was t particularly busy.
I had a business meeting seated outside.
- The menu was far too large for the restaurant to serve 'fresh meals'. You could clearly tell by the 'taste', that the seafood (fish and prawns) had been frozen before cooking.
- The food was presented very poorly, it was cooked in a below average manner and it was extremely over-priced for what it was worth.
- Furthermore, the waiters could barely speak english. Whether this was an attempt by the business to create 'authenticity'; it created enormous confusion, frustration and impatience. The waiters would constantly 'check-up' on the table saying, "How's everything going ?", which created an uncomfortable setting after the umpteenth time.
I sincerely rate my experience: 4 out of 10; I will not be coning back.
* I highly recommend that you do not go here if you're looking for good food, in a nice setting *
Fantastic location. Seafood hot and cold platter was enough for 3 people. Have already recommended to two friends.
You can’t go to Sydney if you’re a seafood lover and not eat here. Evenings with a sunset over the harbour are a good time with photo opportunities
Over priced, obviously paying for heritage and view! Average food, had better pub grub. If your going to charge top dollar try and avoid unshaven staff and travelling backpackers disguising as efficient wait staff. Wine really over priced. Probably should have gone 20 YEARS ago, when I lived here
Worth going here for the view alone. Good, fish based, menu but with variety and wide selection, which is also true of the drinks selection.
Had a great meal in very pleasant surroundings. Loved the jumbo prawns.
Delicious food, friendly staff & overall fantastic evening watching the sunset
