DUM Biryani House
What Insiders Are Saying
Dum Biryani is a Indian restaurant in a Soho basement. It’s actually a lot more fun than it sounds, and besides the biryani don’t miss the starters.
It used to be pretty good when it first opened. Now, it has gone pretty downhill.
A hidden away gem. If you walked past may not even notice it was there. They dont have a lot of options on the menu and specialise in Dum biryani. Probably the best dum biryani had in London. Had the lamb shank biryani and was excellent.
Great food. Small portions for starters but all super tasty.
Biryani was exceptionally good.
Don't tell anyone about this place, I want it all for myself, great food, great service, and great value
It was not a relishable experience, the food was just ok and i have eaten better biryani at lesser equipped restaurants. Half of your serve staff is not aware of how to make simple cocktails. And the pumpkin chaat was below sub par limits. Daal qabila is distastefully made and feels like someone has added orange food color to half cooked Rajma.
All in all waste of 134GBP.
This basement restaurant in Wardour Street was a lovely surprise. I had enjoyed eating at their sister restaurant Lucknow 42 in Maddox Street so I thought I would try the original venue. The food in Dum is South Indian, the biryanis are gorgeous, cooked slowly in clay pots under a crisp pastry topping.
The service was excellent, the decor basic with witty pictures on the walls. All in all I can’t wait to go back which is recommendation in itself!
I was really disappointed with my experience here.
The food was ok, but not worth the money.
My vegetarian friend had a horrible time! The potatoes were not cooked in his food.
So he felt a bit cheated out of £25! For a curry, some popadoms & a mint tea.
The staff are fine. But we waited 10 mins before we got a menu. And we had to keep finding them for more drinks or the bill etc.
I won’t be returning.
I enjoyed the food but unfortunately my partner had a very bad tummy upset later on. As DUM was the only place we ate at that day, chances were high it was due to the food there. I felt fine so we figured it was just bad luck.
Amazing experience again and again
Great starters, especially the Dahi Kebab and Shikhampuri kebabs. Lamb shank Biryani was very flavourfull, the Chicke Biryani less so.
I’ve been here multiple times while traveling to London. The food is amazing especially for the value of a restaurant in SOHO. Who can beat hip- hip playlist and biryani?
This place is an absolute gem ! It was my first time trying Indian food in a restaurant, nice diim lit dinners.
Delicious, flavourful and good sized portions, absolutely loved our meal here. Highly recommend the Fried Mutton and the Andhra Prawn Fry, both was so delicious we still think about these starters. Large Lamb shank biryani is a must have too, perfect for 2 people or a small group.
Was not a fan of the Mango Lassi, tastes a bit sickly but everything else made up for it.
Suggest you sit in the middle tables rather than inside the caves as they play loud music with very heavy bass, it tends to travel and echo inside the caves. Could barely hear my boyfriend who sat across in front of me.
Lovely and great experience, with exceptional food and great service.
The mango lassi and chicken biryani were really tasty. My advice however would be to share a biryani and add a curry as the biryani could have benefitted from more sauce alongside it.
Being an Indian and a foodie I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Definitely visit and enjoy the authentic flavours... Very reasonably priced too... Fantastic all 6 of my guests loved the food.
Love this place - great food, nice place and all down to earth
Food is exceptional. The restaurant is tiny but it has a real buzz to it.
Great food & service
Tasty biryani and the starters were great too. A little on the expensive side but completely reasonable for a good quality food in the centre of Soho.
One of the tasteless biryani ever had in my life
I’ve been wanting to visit Dum Biryani House for a while, so picked it for a casual dinner with family and friends.
We had a semi-private table which was lovely!
The food was delicious, definitely did not disappoint, and the staff were lovely as well.
The food was delicious, and the service was lovely.
Great food, and very good for special dietary requirements.
My 3rd time coming here and everyone I bring always says this is the best biryani they have had. They all surprised by the way it is presented in the puff pastry too.
Delicious food and drink and we had a great time.
what a gem of a find if you like your biryani. food was delicious and the service was excellent. smaller than I thought and down some narrow stairs. cocktails were great. overall friends and I really enjoyed it and would defiantly go back. worth a visit
Booked a birthday meal at Dum for 7. Had a little private alcove which was nice. Food was tasty enough but the sharing biryanis weren’t as substantial as expected. Tasty enough though and it’s a curry with a pasty top so you can’t go wrong really!
Without a wink of doubt, I will recommend this joint to anyone who loves authentic Indian cuisine, specially the Biriyani.
Serving Old Monk Rum with ThumbsUp adds couple of feathers in their cap.
Dum is yum!
Good food but people with allergies beware as they struggle to cater for this. I would go back again!
The service was very bad we got our food after 1 hour wait.. the food was too spicy & no warnings.. we ordered drinks but didn’t get all our order we mentioned that there is missing drinks but no one is listening. We were veryy verryy verrrryyy disappointment with the service: never again. Oh yeah & there is no AC & its in the basement area, not fun at all.
The restaurant is under staffed, service is poor and we were overcharged by the restaurant! only noticed the next day. would not go there again!
Amazing starters and the biryani stole the show (we had lamb), service was excellent - really friendly. Will 100% be coming back soon!
Great find- amazing flavours. Small place with friendly service and good value.
Tasty food at a tasteful restaurant
Very nice food. Also love that we were put in a private cosy room so it was basically private dinning. Only warning is that the restaurant does not have air conditioning/ it wasn't on. I was cool enough but my friends were a tad hot. Everyone was very pleased with food though and would return.
Very tasty food, would recommend to go. Starters were small whilst biryani's were good portion. Nice enough atmosphere
Our go to place for authentic Indian biryani. The menu is limited but all items are excellent. Perfect for a catch-up with friends. The restaurant is small but cosy with 2 private group seating areas that are great for conversations.
Amazing place! Good food, good atmosphere, ideal to have dinner with a big group
The Biryanis was suppose to be the star dish and it was a massive disappointment, dry, lacking flavour and very skimpy on the filling. Shame all round really, very friendly and happy service but food just not up to scratch.
2nd visit to this wonderful gem in the heart of the West End! Very attentive service, amazing food and very reasonably priced. Requested the vault dining and they were more than happy to oblige. Will definitely return!
