Dunkerley’s Restaurant & Hotel
in view of the current restrictions we understand the limited menu but it would be nice to see this expanded particularity starters
Food and service OK,Restaurant looked a bit tired and tatty.
Awful service. Average food. It was obvious that the kitchen couldn’t cope
We ate from the three course price fix menu and the food was outstanding. Cooked to perfection.
We Started with scallops. Followed by a lamb rump and a halibut main. The cheese board was excellent with very good portions of cheese and chutney.
The bar menu was also very good
Welcoming staff and efficient service.Food ,attractively presented and of good quality.Pricing very reasonable.Would visit again
as always a very good experience. Great food and wine
Enjoyable meal with tasty oysters and pigeon breast for starters and halibut and lamb for mains. Well cooked and nicely presented.
Dinner was very nice, dessert wasn’t as nice as I expected.
Dunkerleys has copied with the covid crisis well. The food was good (with the halibut utterly perfect) and it was a pleasure to eat there as it has been for over 25 years. There is some good competition now in Deal but Dunkeleys is still the best . We will be back. The best thing was the waitress who was spot on in terms of looking after us - the only grumble is that a fino sherry is an aperitif not a dessert wine as on the menu. I would say to anyone visiting Deal book a table.
The food was of reasonable quality. The room lacked ambience but had a good view. Service was fine but could have been a bit quicker
We were delighted by the menu at Dunkerleys and the dining experience complemented our magnificent room superbly comfortable beds and The best view in Deal.
It was truly a one stop shop and the fish based menu could not have been more appropriate to the seafront at Deal.
The menu was great value ( oysters and scallops starters outstanding and super fresh). The young team of staff brought vigour and energy to the service in both the restaurant and the hotel. Mr D welcomes us warmly and helped in every way. Cressida too was friendly and courteous and saw to our every need.
We hope to return and shall warmly recommend this lovely hotel with stunning window boxes without any reservation.
We stayed at Dunkerley's for a few days and luckily were able to dine there as well...there was a generally good selection of items for dinner which arrived promptly and was quite delicious...would have no hesitation in recommending eating here. Likewise the breakfast was very good and generous...overall a very pleasant stay.
From out Tripadvisor review:
What can I say chaotic from start to finish. We were seated at our table and our drinks order taken but the waiter didn't know where the drinks should go, so I ended up calling him over to say they were our drinks.
We chose our lunch from the "Chef's Pick Menu" (£29.95)
Starters - Scallops and roasted pigeon breast. The scallops were OK but the pigeon breast was tough.
They forgot the bread, we had to ask for that.
Mains - Lamb Rump and Fillet of Skate. The skate was overpowered by the wild mushroom and the "Turned potatoes" were like raw chips as my husband agreed on tasting.
Dessert............ah well , with only 2 other tables left in the restaurant, who had both completed their meals, we waited for 25 minutes. No sign of it or the waiting staff, so my husband had to get up and go and ask if it had been ordered. The table next to us left cancelling their dessert because it took so long and the table the other side decided not to order dessert having listened to us and the table who gave up and left!
In all fairness the cheese board was ample.
We then had to chase the bill and when it arrived it had somebody else's drinks on it!
It really was chaotic from start to finish with no one being consistent on which table they were waiting on. Surely allocation of tables to specific waiting staff would cure this chaos?!
We arrived at 12.20 and where seated at our table. Around 30mins later the waiter took our order.
The starter didn't take long to arrive at our table but the main course took at least an hour and therefore we did not start eating it until about 14.00hrs. We then had to wait ages to get the attention of a waiter to order desert only to be told that it would be about a 20min wait. As we had only put a 3hrs ticket on our car we did not have time to wait so asked for the bill.
The food when it did arrive was good but the biggest disappointment was the decor of the dining room. It all look very tired and the carpets looked grubby. In my opinion to whole dining room needs updating and redecorating.
I was therefore very disappointed with my first experience at Dunkerleys resturant.
Lovely evening, good range of fish dishes, very accomodating staff and good value.
Everything about this restaurant is first class. Food and wine is outstanding. The staff are exemplary. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I will hopefully dine there again when I am down in Deal again. Thank you for a memorable evening.
Excellent service. Food wonderful and well cooked. Restaurant was empty for the first hour, so not noisy and no piped music. Staff were friendly and entertaining.
We chose to eat ouside to be safer but could only have brasserie menu. Food was good but service poor with young waiter not trained enough.
Overall it was just about OK. We both had scallops to start which were well cooked and very tasty. For mains, my wife had skate which was fine and which she enjoyed. However I had another fish - can't remember if it was hake or halibut - which sadly was overcooked and dry as a result.
But the service was good and we had a nice table (albeit with a stained tablecloth) overlooking the front
Main course took nearly an hour to appear. We were placed at the back of an empty room and told it was fully booked so could not move. The room was still empty when we left.
We had a delicious lunch which was extremely good value and brilliant service can’t wait to go again
Poor service. Dirty table cloth. Food took 1 hour 40 mins. Wasn’t offered dessert, coffee or any additional drinks, although was given a free drink once someone realised we’d been waiting so long.
Beautiful food service was brilliant. All
Staff were very polite and attentive. Will visit again soon
Fantastic food, service and value. We had the restaurant to ourselves which helped.
As always an amazing experience we are going again soon.
Stayed at the kings Head pub so thought we would try the restaurant next door. Really good choice, thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
Service and food was great never had a bad meal yet
We visited on a Saturday evening, the restaurant is a bit old fashioned, but the service was excellent. They gave us small taster dishes (soup and then a raspberry ice) before our meal which was a nice touch! The food we ordered was good, but not exceptional.
I am really disappointed to report that Dunkerleys restaurant has gone right down in my estimation. I have dined there before and have had excellent food and service and so it was a natural choice for my 60th birthday lunch. All three of us had the peppered steaks but the cuts of meat were very poor. My steak was tough and my wife's steak had to be sent back as it was inedible. Also the staff looked miserable - no enthusiasm and not a smile between them.
We were recommended to Dunkerley's by a friend - he was right! The meal we enjoyed in the Restaurant was excellent and the two waiters looking after us were knowledgeable and most pleasant. Our accommodation, whilst comfortable was rather tired and in need of some refurbishment. Nonetheless, we will happily return.
Oysters and duck fabulous. However hake overcooked and inedible. Although I left pretty much all of the hake and told the waitress it was over cooked she made no comment and just took my plate of uneaten fish away. Not impressed.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch with family and friends. Staff very nice, especially Dan. Food very good.
Will be back.
Everything was amazing from start to finish.
Food was delicious... from the homemade bread to amuse bouche to the happy birthday plate written in chocolate with truffles at the end (totally unexpected). The scallops and sea bass were outstanding.
Great service from all staff.
Great value too!
A good meal very small portions. Loverly Restaurant profession staff.
Our first time doing at Dunkerleys and definitely not our last. Despite being rammed on Bank Holiday, the food and service were faultless. Excellent value for money.
The set meal was cheap and we understand why - extremely poor quality. Scallops were not fresh and it was just basic canteen food.
We would definitely go to the restaurant here again,
We all really enjoyed it, it was superb!!
We went for my partner's birthday ! Just perfect!
Then went in the bar mext morning for breakfast which was also very nice.
The hotel has a good feel to it. We enjoyed the fish meals, and the wine prices were sensible.
Breakfast system needs looking at. Why take the coffee cups away to fill them? Just give the customer a cafetiere..?
We would still use Dunkerley's again.
The service was ok although we had to wait an unacceptably long time for our cold sweets
My stater of pigeon breast was over cooked and leathery and sat in a dark gloutenous sauce
We both had fish for a main and both were over cooked and mushy
We have eaten here before and enjoyed it so hopefully this was a one-off
celebrated my partners 80th birthday here. booked into the restaurant specially, got a good table, service was very good, prices good. Additional bonus of a demi tasse of soup prior to our meal, chefs compliments, which was the best we had ever tasted (recipe please) starters good, followed by a sorbet, also free, and main course which was very good. Wine was excellent and a good price. only fault I can find is they asked if we wanted water and we said yes, thinking you should always get a jug of water in a first class restaurant, however it was, I think £3.75 ! as they brought us a bottle. the chap on the next table asked for a jug of tap water with ice (free of course) Silly mistake on our part so look out for this trick future diners. Having said this the whole experience was really nice and we did return a few days later and had a meal in the bistro.
