About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Hot spot
Brian Dunsmoor’s namesake restaurant, Dunsmoor, is the latest iteration of his ongoing exploration of American heritage cooking. It is, first and foremost, a restaurant for the community that surrounds it, and a loving expression of the relentless research that has informed his cooking for the last ten years.

We offer the full menu at tables in our dining room and at the chef's counter. Reservations are recommended but we make every effort to accommodate walk-ins when possible.

Dunsmoor's wine bar, accessible either through the restaurant or via its own door on Ave 35, does not accept reservations and serves a limited menu of our raw and larder items.

From the OpenTable editors: Few chefs can work a hearth like Brian Dunsmoor, who cut his teeth at Southern star Hatchet Hall before opening his namesake restaurant in 2022. The long tables adorned with flickering candles make the restaurant an ideal place for a date, as do fiery dishes like wood-roasted oysters and mushroom-crusted pork chops. The cornbread, slathered in cultured butter, is the stuff of dreams.

Perfect. Food was perfect. We sat at the counter which gave us the best view. Chef was a great chat in the bar side after our meal.

The food was tasty but not out of this world. Beef tartare doesn’t come with and bread or crisp, it’s just a bowl of raw meat. Carolina gold rice was good, but was like two scoops of rice with a few small pieces of chopped prawns for $33!! Cornbread slaps, but small for the price. Trout was the only dish worth the price, however the grits were inedible. Maybe it’s because I’m a southern girl, but they were a total miss. The waiter told us the dishes were meant to be shared but they were all so small. This was just another overhyped LA restaurant. Overpriced and underwhelming. The host was lovely, but our sever was a bit intrusive. Overall, I’m glad I finally crossed this one off the list, for the cornbread alone.

Always phenomenal. Everything was superb but I do miss the mushroom risotto. It’s no longer on the menu. They had a shrimp and corn risotto, which was delicious but not as good as the mushroom. The snapper was delicious. The pork chop is amazing. The tomato toast was incredible.

We have been wanting to eat at Dunsmoor so we definitely looked at the menu before coming. Everything we ordered was delicious: baby albacore, cornbread, the stew, Comte cheese with the wine pairing and the pork chop. Our favorite dishes of the night had to be the cornbread and the Aunt Emmy’s pork & green chili stew. Great service and would definitely be back with at least a group of 4 next time.

The food here is truly top notch. I didn’t know if it would live up to the hype and it certainly did. We liked every single dish we got but the pork chop was absolutely amazing. I don’t ever get pork because it tends to be dry and flavorless which couldn’t be farther from the dish here. It is clear the staff take such pride in the food they put out. 10/10 no notes!

Food was good. The seafood dishes were our favorite (albacore, sardines, and the grilled fish looked good but we didn’t try that). Service could have been better. We waited a long time for reservations so we went in with very high expectations.

The food is fantastic! Chefs counter is the way to go for sure. Unfortunately our server was incredibly busy. He never brought our drinks even after asking two times. Other servers seemed to help and fill in for him, but it was very looong stretches with no service and we had to flag him down for 15 minutes to eventually get the check.
