Ella Canta Ratings and Reviews
Ella Canta is a wonderful addition to the London Restaurant scene! The Food is REAL Mexican but to an elevated level. Please don't make the mistake of equating this to Tex Mex burritos and tacos. This is very sophisticated food done to perfection. If you like Latin American restaurants like Coya, you will LOVE Ella Canta. The drinks are creative and delicious! The ambiance created by everything from the staff clothing to the creative barware and table ware add to the whole experience. I will be coming back again regularly!
Quite possibly the best restaurant I have ever been to, food was excellent, incredible presentation and a genuine concern for customer satisfaction from the informative and friendly staff. Would 110% recommend to a friend
Ella canta was an experience! Mexican food with a twist, basic poor dishes of typical mexican cousine brought to a sophisticated level, very well presented and tasty.
Our table wasn't really the best, just at the entrance, but I could see that inside was really cool, also the bar area looked very nice, would definitely go back for a drink at the bar.
Loved the staff, very friendly, funny and well dressed, the location is just on the street, so not a great view, but I guess in the evening you don't notice it as much as lunch.
We had a big lunch, a bit of everything, pato al mole and cochinita were delicious. Also tried the spiced hot chocolate and some mezcal and tequilas, they have a fantastic selection.
Would definitely go back soon!!
Fabulous Mexican restaurant with delightful service & great sharing plates. Spicy sauces are superb and the general ambiance is both interesting and comfortable. We had Monday night birthday dinner for a friend and were made to feel very special. Beautiful decor and the cocktails are delicious.
Although I have now lived in London now for over 10 years I still miss having great Mexican food options. Ella Canta is a refreshing reminder to us that the Mexican kitchen is so much more than quesadillas, tequila shots, deep-fried Chimichangas and "tex-mex" most places offer. I love a great burrito and tacos too, but if you're going out for a proper meal, elegant setting and want Mexican food, this is where you want to be. Martha Ortiz brings London an exciting menu filled with flavours deep in Mexican tradition. We had the tamal, guacamole nacional, ceviche and tacos to start. All were delicious but the fish tacos definitely deserve special praise. I chose the duck with mole as my main. Heaven! We certainly plan to return to Ella Canta real soon.
The food was delicious but you struggle to escape the sense - especially when you first enter - that this is a hotel restaurant. Bar is great. Cocktail list amazing. But go for the food! The only slight negative was the imbalance between rice and chicken. Too much rice.
Fantastic service and presentation, wonderful modern twist on traditional Mexican flavours and dishes, with ingredients flown in directly from Mexico. This is not tex-mex or oaxaca equivalent, this is a much more sophisticated take.
The octupus and cochinita pibil were real stand out dishes, as was the talavera purpura cocktail.
That was one great experience! Authentic food just as I had it in Mexico. Outstanding interiors and charismatic staff. The place is a new hot spot. Strongly recommended!!
P.S. The food generally is not very spicy, so if you like it spicy in a Mexican way - ask for spicy salsa.
Excellent Friday night at beautiful Ella Canta restaurant! Excellent interpretation of modern Mexican haute cuisine . We had table for two for late dinner night. Service was attentive knowledgeable about every single dish; and charming. Rare qualities even in some of London's top restaurants. Overall it was an excellent experience! Chef Martha Ortiz came to our table to have a quick chat. We are really appreciated for Chef time and it was a great honor to met the best Mexican Chef in the world. The food they were all executed perfectly. If you want haute cuisine based on ingredients and themes from Mexico then you need not look any further.
It was an excellent experience and we thoroughly enjoyed the service and the food as well we could meet an extraordinary Chef from Mexico!
HIgh end creative Mexican Brunch with "unlimited" margaritas in a 90 min window. They begin with 6 starters and then a main and dessert. Way more food than we needed. I would suggest they do a lower cost option for those with smaller appetites. Great room - glad it wasn't crowded.
The service is impeccable. Staff are lovely and knowledgable. The food wowed us our first visit but disappointed us on our second trip. The recipes are amazing but it fell short this second visit. The octopus was flavourless and tough, the tamale was slightly cold and nothing special.
The cocktails are nothing short of incredible.
Loved the decor, the attention to detail, the number of people serving, the ambiance. The food was not great but the churros were divine. Would love though to go back to try the tamales and other dishes... as the service was very good and the DJ was spot on with the salsa music.
Excellent modern Mexican cuisine, attentive service and smart setting. In early Nov. around the Day of the Dead, the staff looked amazing with traditional face painting and elegant uniforms. Unfortunately this restaurant is already attracting loud groups and, whilst we like a lively atmosphere, our evening was spoilt by the constant shouting, no less than three happy bday songs, and a live DJ pumping up the volume to the point we couldn't hear a word from the waiter explaining each course. As in most top restaurants, large noisy tables should be confined to private rooms. For the average price of £290 per couple (incl. 2 cocktails and 1 of the cheaper bottles of wine) you would expect to leave impressed not annoyed.
Really good Mexican food - we went for the tasting menu at £80 each so not cheap. However you could certainly get away with paying less if you went a la carte. The guacamole (with edible golden grasshopper!) was especially good! Service friendly and attentive. Very enjoyable evening.
Although located in a hotel there is a separate entrance that makes this feel more free standing. The two standouts are the superb food and the excellent cocktails both in their own way special in that they would not be easily found elsewhere. Slightly standoffish service and not such a great atmosphere not helped by being virtually empty apart from a very few other diners - maybe better in the evening.
Beautiful ambiance from the moment you enter. Great unique Budda bar like music. Great selection of Tequila, excellent margaritas. Service is top ten. BUT; even though food was tasty, it did not deserve the justification of their price.
