I was excited to try erpingham house. I am a plant based chef and love championing vegan restaurants.
However, when I asked the waiter if I could have a margarita he rather snottily said that they didn’t do them and I should choose a cocktail from the list. Which I did. The restaurant wasn’t busy. After 10 minutes I saw my cocktail sitting on the bar, where it stayed sitting for another ten minutes. The supervisor wasn’t interested in serving me. Neither the waiter. I found the atmosphere stifling. When my guest arrived I decided it was time to leave. When questioned by said waiter why I was leaving. I told him that the 20 minute wait for my drink was not a great sign of things to come. He rather rudely told me it was on its way. Made me feel really uncomfortable. So we left. Didn’t get to try the food. Won’t be coming back to try the food.

It was are first time visiting Brighton so we had no idea where to eat. My wife and I are vegetarians so we searched on Google the best places to eat. Erpingham house came up as a vegan restaurant so that suited are requirements.
The restaurant is small but very cosy for couples. The staff were excellent and the service very prompt. We both ordered the vegan mock lamb which was amazing. It really was a great meal and we had a great night.

Excellent first time time to a vegan restaurant but was pleasantly surprised and the food taste was superb, thanks to eldest daughters persuasion to go and try. Recommend to anyone who wants to try, thanks. Great service

Really lovely vegan restaurant in the lanes. Had such a delicious dinner! Really raving about the mock lamb and the caeser salad, topped off with the best espresso martini I’ve ever had! My girlfriend loved the celebration of cauliflower which I really helped myself to as well!
I will have to come back at some point to try out all the desert options as I was so full by the end!
Really great vegan cocktail and wine menu too, would recommend as a romantic dinner spot!

Cute little restaurant with a nice, chilled atmosphere. Staff were absolutely charming. We had the jackfruit tacos which were nice but could have had a bit more flavouring. Then a Buddha bowl which I found a bit disappointing. All nice (apart from the seitan which was slightly smoky with an odd aftertaste for me) but nothing remarkable. Mocktails we’re both delicious. Everything was good value.

This was my third visit to Erpingham House and I continue to be really impressed. The food is just outstanding, such good quality. I had the mock lamb and potatoes and I wish I could eat it all over again right now it was so delicious! I’m not vegan but my husband is so finding this place has been brilliantly. The restaurant itself is lovely and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommended

The food was outstanding! Between our table of 4 we tried the jackfruit tacos, the roast lamb, the miso aubergine, the mac & cheese side and the jackfruit pancakes. All were delicious and completely empty plates all round. The whole bill came to less than £100 and we had a bottle of wine as well so was excellent value for money. Our server was the perfect amount of attentive and evidently cared about his work. Will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu!

Great to be in a restaurant where the whole menu is plant based but a long way to go if they want to compete with other fantastic plant based restaurants in Brighton. The service felt inattentive (and thats from an introvert!). We had to constantly ask for things such as our first drink while we were waiting for a friend to arrive. A dirty glass, then not enough plates delivered, the a side dish much later than the main course. Nothing awful but just not on their game to be honest.

The food was OK but not tasty enough for me to want to return. Small things matter, for example, the hoisin pancake sharing plate came with more pancakes than fillings, so we all had to have tiny amounts in each one! If I hadn't already experienced some of the competition then I would not be quiet as disappointed. I hope they can get better as the more options for plant based eating the better.

Lovely food, drinks and waiter… but having delicious cocktails on the menu slowed service significantly… perhaps don’t serve cocktails during peak eating times… couldnt get a glass of wine , it hadn’t even arrived after the main course had been scoffed!

Aubergine main was lovely, perfect for summer. Polenta cake again was lovely, avoided being too dry whereas tiramisu could have done with more cream or less cake, as was a bit dry. Lovely food overall, great to see a new plant based restaurant, will definitely come back!

Really enjoyed our time here! The food was really good and priced great, you get amazing value for money. Would have liked a few more cocktail options and maybe a pasta main. We were seated upstairs which turned out to be too loud but we asked and were promptly moved to the more quiet area! The manager was also really nice and ensured we had a great time (which we did). We would definitely return, highly recommend to everyone, vegan or not!

Polite, respectful and efficient staff make this a welcoming place to dine. You will not be disappointed at the delightful menu choices. We had the best kale crisps I’ve ever tasted as a nibble to start together with an excellent array of exciting mixed olives which are served warm which makes them really tingle your taste buds, delicious; why don’t other restaurants do this? We followed with the‘fish’, banana blossom coated in a delicious crispy batter which was cooked to perfection. We shared a tiramisu for dessert with coffee. With the bill comes a choice to donate 99p to go towards planting a tree, marvelllous!

All restaurants need supportive customers after the gruelling Covid times which has so seriously affected their businesses and so I am hesitant in giving any criticism except to say a less dry sponge in the tiramisu and stronger coffees would have made me give full marks all round. It was sad that delivery issues meant a couple of items were off the menu that night but this was out of their control and something other restaurants are also experiencing. Well done Erpingham House and thank you.

Firstly told that we had booked for the wrong amount of people - we hadn't, they had mixed us up with another table, and were kept waiting for ages with no apology. From then on we were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them by eating at their restaurant. The service was very poor, the waiter was distracted taking our order and didn't even look at us, and once our mains were cleared we were told to have a nice evening, and were not offered anything else. The food itself was salty and not worth the money. Had to try and get someone's attention for 20 minutes before we could ask for a dessert menu, and even that was a bit of a let down. For the amount of money we paid, it definitely wasn't worth it. A shame considering when we came previously in a larger group with parents (we are students) we received very good service and the experience was very enjoyable, hence the reason we came back. However, we felt being younger, we were ignored and not seen as valuable customers, depsite the fact we paid and tipped like everyone else. We are part of a big vegan community back home, and definitely will not be recommending this restaurant so anyone who may be visiting Brighton. It was a very disappointing evening that we had been looking forward to, and we will not be returning.

We had such a lovely evening/meal here last night. The food is sensational, everything was super tasty including the cocktails. Well priced and great value for money. Few things I would have liked to not see…plastic menus and plastic straws. Food really over delivered based on how the place looked to be honest! Would highly recommend!

Was very excited to try this restaurant so booked lunch with a friend. Service was fantastic from when we arrived. There was a musty smell which was incredibly bad where the toilets were. The food was good, great choice from the menu but not as tasty as other restaurants. Both my friend and I felt it wasn’t great.

I love this restaurant! I am vegan and my friend is mostly plant based and we both loved it. The food is incredible and the service is really great, everyone is so friendly and helpful. The covid guidance is great, very helpful information and precautions but not so much so that you can’t enjoy a normal meal. Absolutely loved it and will be returning again and again!
