Great food, not too busy in the restaurant, service was absolutely fine. Just got a bit noisy later on due to a crowd of lads in the back room. Will definitely be back though, great value for money
Totally happy with my first visit and have already recommended to others .. I really likes all of the food and I recommend getting a side of mac and cheese .. I will be back ASAP
Nice restaurant . My steak was cooked well but a bit gristly so took some cutting. The rest of the food was delicious and I can highly recommend the blueberry cheesecake.
Lovely food. Would not recommend a Sunday evening though as it was so quiet. Not much atmosphere. Can't fault the staff or the food though.
Really good for Sunday lunch - lovely roast beef with all the trimmings. Starters were very good too. The singer/guitarist was a nice touch and not too intrusive.
Really lovely place with delicious Sunday roast. There was live music which was very good but was slightly too loud for my grandparents. However, the vibe, service and food was delicious and I’d have no issue recommending it!
Really lovely restaurant, great service, food was really tasty and arrived quickly.
Clean and friendly restaurant with simple but good quality food. Bit quiet on a rainy Sunday evening but staff were attentive if a little slow
We both had a burger, which was tasty, definitely not of the frozen variety like many places. They were busy but informed us there would be a wait, we didn’t mind, it was well worth it. The brownie was huge, great for sharing, we will be returning, Thankyou to the lovely staff.
Went for Sunday Lunch. Food outstanding and service excellent. Would go again.
Delicious food, tiny portions.
The starters were a bit small, but ok.
The main courses were inconsistent - mine (pork) was tiny, my girlfriend had the lamb shank which was a decent sized portion. Thankfully she shared and so I didn’t starve.
Same for the desserts - my chocolate brownie was fairly small (even the ice cream scoop must have been miniature!) whereas the cheese board was huge.
The food itself was delicious, but we’d be put off going back because of how inconsistently sized the portions were.
Lovely staff, tasty food, prompt service. A nice atmosphere
We have been to cut & chase on a number of occasions. It was our first time during a week day.
The food has always been very good. We had the steak for two that came with a bottle of wine. It was good value at £30 for 2 people.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. Very good meal we had the scallops and truffle salami starters and for main course the duck breast and the pork. All very good indeed.
Very disappointing. Out of 4 meals, 2 weren’t great. We sent one back but didn’t bother with the other one. Staff were good and deducted from the bill but really did spoil the night.
Fabulous meal! Visited on steak night (Tuesday) and had two sirloin steak meals and a bottle of wine for £30 It was really good value. We both had dessert. Peanut and chocolate parfait and a apple and berry crumble, both desserts were delicious. Friendly, attentive staff and a nice atmosphere. We will be going back very soon.
the haddock was greasy and tasteless, the thick chips where also a bit much, but my boyfriend really enjoyed the stake.
The dessert menu is really disappointing, not everyone wants fruity desserts.
By far one of the best restaurants we have eaten in for a long time. The food was so good that we ate there twice in a period of two days! Brilliant service both nights. If you like steak, try their Tuesday night steak night. Next time we are in York, it will be the first place we will head to.
Fourth visit - always good. Quiet Wednesday night so atmosphere limited but service excellent and welcoming. Food good. Only minor comment would be that the steak (which was excellent meat) needs a slightly hotter pan to get the seared crust right. However couldn’t fault that it was actually rare as requested (which makes a change over many restaurants). Turning into my go to place for a casual dinner or lunch
Overall good - only slight criticism was that fish was a little over salted
Great food and service! Nothing to complain about, also good value for money.
Great restaurant, food and service excellent. We went on a quiet night (Sunday), so we were the only table in, however am sure the restaurant and bar are vibrant Friday and Saturday nights!
Great breakfast on Saturday- I had the pancakes with bacon and my partner had eggs benedict- both were great!
Cocktails great and nice friendly service. Quiet when we were there (Fri night).
Food was quickly served but we felt it was underwhelming and pretty bland. I had the rib-eye which was not cheap and was pretty small (sizes are shown on the menu tho). The Bernaisse sauce I ordered was very bland too and the fries were nothing special.
I love this restaurant and would still recommend it, although I have to say I was a little disappointed this time round. I thought the onion rings were bad and the cocktails not nearly as good as I remembered. Soft peaks should have had a meringue top, but it was anything but meringue.
I am always prepared to give any place an off day, and so this is their one, as every other time I have been there it was great, but time to step it back up folks!!!
Usually love this place but found the menu not very interesting and very poor dessert choice (I always have dessert as does my friend but neither of us liked anything on the menu which is unknown!!!). They used to do miniatures of all the desserts - please bring this back based on classic desserts and we will return! Portions were much smaller than previous visits which disappointed us. Atmosphere was poor but it was a Tuesday although we did felt pushed out as we were the only diners and the staff made it clear they were ready to go so we left and went elsewhere - lost revenue for Cut & Chase! With so much competition in York I feel you need to up your game again and it would take a lot for us to now return but I’ll keep checking your dessert menu and will be back if it changes!!!
Food was outstanding!! Perfect place for our first wedding anniversary dinner date
Very attentive service fine food, well worth it. They are working hard to succeed. Go there.
Good food, v nice cocktail, good service. Really nice evening. Very good value.
Enjoyed the food, atmosphere and friendly staff. Food simply good ingredients well put together: bang bang prawns on baby crispy gem lettuce tasty and good mix of textures.
We had a great meal, a great new menu and lovely staff. Always a pleasure and great food and cocktails at The Cut and Chase.
Just a great evening out
Staff were great and food fab
Will be going again
We booked last minute so were pleased to get a table at short notice. The duck was absolutely perfect and the service friendly and efficient. Although there are no cask beers, the bottled beer was perfectly acceptable (and so apparently was the apple juice). Definitely recommend
Food was great. Service was a little slack, including waiting for our order to be taken when staff were congregated in the bar having a chat. Unfortunately, there was a very noisy group at the table next to us, not the restaurant's fault, but did spoil the atmosphere as we could not hear our own conversation!
Had a great meal with relatives from Oz, I chose the place from open table recommendations so I was really glad it never disappointed. We had various sea food starters and fillet steak mains, 1 steak needed cooking more which was dealt with very professionally and a replacement meal came to replace it.
Also an excellent service from the waitress who was very attentive.
Great food, not had a bad meal yet, Sunday lunch is fantastic, just a bit different.
Friday night meal as staying in York for the night. Food was really tasty and well presented. Ambiance nice too
Very impressed by Cut and Chase - our first visit. Lovely cocktails in bar area on arrival then promptly shown to table for Sunday lunch. We decided to try the Sunday roast and had lamb. It was delicious and the accompanying veg also good. The wine was very good and the service excellent - all staff were very attentive. Would recommend and will return.
Easter Sunday, ordered Sunday lunch lamb, tasteless, fatty and chewie. Had it changed for beef which was better. Disappointed. Waitress apologised and was attentive.
An outstanding evening and a great restaurant. All the food was of the highest quality, the service was excellent throughout the evening and so good we didn't leave until 11.45pm. I would recommend it for any occasion.
