Farmers & Distillers
The service could have been MUCH better (from the manager to the server). The food was delish!!! Try the donuts!
The host was EXTRAORDINARILY disrespectful
Brunch here is just alright. Though the food tastes good, expect more lunch fare than breakfast. Service was lacking from the moment we walked in till we left. The receptionists were rude letting us know the only option was the buffet when we checked in. There were a few circulating additional items being served but our table never received any - I assumed because we were the only table in our section for about an hour. Our main waiter didn’t inform us of these options at all though. By the time we saw these additional selections, we had already finished our meals. Very disappointing, as they looked tasty! We also had to ask twice for refills and our check.
We visited Founding Farmers a few years ago while visiting DC and were excited to try Farmers and Distillers. Menu and food was outstanding, but service was absolutely terrible. Watched about six servers pass us by for twenty minutes. We physically had to go to the front desk to complain to finally get waited on. Then another 15 minutes for drinks. Service makes or breaks a restaurant experience. It kind of ruined ours.
I have been here multiple times while visiting Washington, DC. The food and drinks are consistently great, but be prepared to wait a long time for a table, even with reservations. I have made reservations for lunches and dinners and each time we have had to wait to be seated, usually around 30 minutes. Once you are seated the service is fine, but getting from the host area to the seating area can take quite a while. That being said, the southern fried chicken and donut are amazing and if you like gin, I would recommend the Constitution.
The waitress took a long time to get items like silverware. My burger bun was all soggy on the bottom. The fries were cold.
Hi CathyF: I am very sorry to read that not only was service slow to deliver needed items, but your burger bun was soggy & the fries cold! This is such a disappointment for our team to know and I feel terrible this was your experience with us. :/ That said, we do hope for the chance to have you back for another try and I will send you a PM with my email address to keep in touch. -Amy
We went for Restaurant Week. Deal was good. We all ordered the Southern Fried Chicken and Donut. Overthinking was delicious. I would go back again.
The food was fresh and hot and our server was very attentive.
We had been to Farmers certain dishes (two of the three passed plates and even one dish specially ordered) never arrived; and judging by the (lack of) supply for several main dishes, the buffet was being wound down by only 12:30pm. Sadly, it was an overall extremely disappointing experience even though most of what was available was tasty (making the negatives even more of a shame).
Food was so good!! You can’t beat the price for quality eats at a buffet in DC at all. I was a bit upset the people who are supposed to go around the room offering certain foods didn’t walk around hardly at all. We had the hardest time get a single table’s serving of fried shrimp or dumplings but the pancakes were made to order and perfect. Wish I had at less the day before so I had more room for food but I can’t wait to go back. The overall energy on a Saturday morning wasn’t too crowded and the natural lighting just made you very comfortable.
Excellent Saturday brunch. Everything was delicious. Our server was great!
The highlights. Super friendly server. Fried Chicken & Donut, and the Cheeseburger were amazing as were the cocktails & if ever it was worth spending $8 for a bread basket, this is the place. However the service was a bit slow, first approach of the table , check ups, etc. I was halfway thru my meal before the waiter returned for me to order another drink even though he had brought me the drink menu. The prime rib was literally inedible. I’ve had $25 prime rib before. I know what to expect. This was a complete letdown and frankly a good server would have offered to take off the bill. I took 3 bites. . But def more good then bad.
The food was good and similar to other establishments in the group. Service was good and the menu for restaurant week was good.
The server was extremely slow and my chicken pot pie was cold as ice!!! Really bad experience.
I came specifically for Restaurant Week. I chose F&D because approximately 70% of the items on the menu were available for RW which was awesome! Brian was our waiter - I think he was new, but he was GREAT! Very attentive and nice. I know in time he'll be even better waiter. I'll be sure to ask if he's working when I return. Which I'm sure I will because this is one of my favorite restaurants in DC next to FFB. Also - loved the chocolate coconut cake! I made room for it and I'm glad I did.
Hi Ingenious: Whoo-hoo! Thank you SO much for sharing your rave review with us! We really appreciate your shout out for Brian's service, and hope to have you back for another great time soon. :) Please call us at 202-464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
Came here for Summer restaurant week, and was not disappointed. For $35, the dinner is a great value and they don’t skimp on portions. To start we had the pork and shrimp dumplings and the bacon lollipops. Both were yummy and fun to share. For the main courses, we opted to have the gnocchi with shrimp and the ravioli with lobster. The gnocchi was amazing and the sauce was some of the best I’ve had. We wrapped with donuts and ice cream, which we could barely finish because we were so full. They offer A coupon to come back and get dessert later, which is what we should’ve done. Either way it was a great experience yet again at Farmers and Distillers
Hi HoosierHospitality: We cannot get enough of your wonderful 5-STAR RW review! Thank you and we look forward to having you back for another visit soon. Please call our team at #202-464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
I was definitely looking fwd to eating here but I felt the restaurant was a little unorganized and was lacking. The prices were a bit high. The food was good but not great. My eggs benedict were delicious and also the homemade donuts but our group of 9 weren't over excited about their dishes. The server was very kind & friendly but we waited for long periods of time overall for everything. The ambience was ok. We are from the NYC area and have high expectations comparing to similar restaurants in our city
The vibe was great. The food was just ok for the price.
went for restaurant week summer 2019 and ordered the salmon. it was pretty good.
Going here for restaurant week was 100% worth it. They allowed us to pick any appetizer or entree under a certain amount of money, which is much better compared to other restaurants that have a fixed menu for restaurant week. The chicken wings were delicious and the dessert was wonderful. A great deal!
Took my parents and oldest to lunch for restaurant week as this is a favorite of mine. While I usually love their food and service, it may have been due to the restaurant week crowd but it just wasn’t up to it’s normal standards. Food was meh, service was slow. Not counting it out tho...
I was on a time crunch so needed everything at a decent time but service was a little slow unfortunately. I ended up having to box everything :(
Food overall was good. The portion was small and no kids menu. The soda was not what we expected.
Ate the corn bread and riblets as an appetizer and that could have pretty much been the meal for me. Both were really amazing.
Dinner was the salmon which was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes and sucatash was excellent and tasted fresh.
Dessert was vanilla bean cheesecake with creme brulee topping and it was real cheesecake and it is huge. So much food and was full early n often.
I can't really review the food because it never showed up - we alerted them to the fact that we were on a bit of a tighter timeline - 35 minutes later, still no food - then 45 and we couldn't then enjoy the food even if it did show up - so had to bail out on this. Restaurant seems nice - food is.. who knows, never got any.
Went for restaurant week. Excellent menu choices as part of restaurant week promo. Food quality was great. Service was subpar. Took two hours for just a table of two to get our three courses. And our server never came back to ask if we wanted another drink after our initial order. They didn’t even replenish the water (I took a water pitcher from the server stand near the restroom so we had something to drink). Fun cocktail menu; wine was overpriced ($25 for a glass of red wine - seriously). I would recommend for take out - skip the dine in experience.
Made a reservation for a Tuesday evening at 6:15 before a concert at the Capital One Arena. We were seated within 5 minutes. Our waiter was very nice and explained everything about the restaurant and food as it was our first time there. Everything in the menu sounded so good it was hard to decide. We ended up sharing the shrimp dumplings and the bread basket. The dumplings were really good, you could tell the pasta was fresh. The bread basket was amazing!!!! Came with a variety of bread along with butter and strawberry jam. The cornbread was to die for. We both ended up ordering the Cacio E Pepe with shrimp bc of the fresh pasta and it was amazing. Everything we ate we kept
Saying omg, this is so good. For dessert we were eyeing the donuts of course. We got the Bananas Foster donut and the Maple cinnamon donut bread pudding. Both were soooo yummy!!! We were very pleased with our experience and can’t wait to go back and try more.
I've been to Farmers & Distillers a couple of times. The Atmosphere is a good, people are friendly, and the food is tasty. First time around the service was great. Second time around the service was more than a bit slow, a one hour lunch break turned into two. Hopefully this is a one time occurrence...
Hi DonnaL: Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am so sorry that our service fell short this time and your planned lunch hour turned into two. :/ We do appreciate you letting us know these details and our Management Team will follow up with our staff that worked August 13th. Of course, we hope to have you back for another try and please call us at 202-464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
Always tasty, well-prepared food and excellent service. Great variety of offerings for DC Restaurant Week. Super restaurant for small group lunches or dinners. The only issue is with the music level. Our small party had to raise voices over the high volume of music at our small table -- not so pleasant. I asked about the music level the last time I visited F & D, but nothing has changed. Overall, a very good dining experience, though. Will return.
Great place to dine down in the DC area. Great food and drinks. The only drawback to my experience was the time it took to be seated and the location in which we were sat. I had a reservation, yet it took a good 10 minutes for us to be seated (and we were the only party waiting at the hostess stand) and then once we were seated, we passed several open booths located in front of the large windows and were placed in the far back corner of the restaurant where it was dark and empty. Really odd and not very welcoming.
Loved the vegetable appetizer! And the doughnuts!
Hi Westchester: Thank you for sharing your kind praise for the food you enjoyed. :) We appreciate it and look forward to welcoming you back soon. -Amy
Best pace to eat in DC
The food was pretty good; most of our table was satisfied, however I got the 'homemade' sweet potato ravioli which was more like a fried pot sticker, so that was disappointing. The wine selection by the glass was fantastic, although a bit pricey (it is in DC afterall). Our server had half the dining room (not sure why they had him take so many tables) so it took him a while to not only get to us initially, but get our drinks then get back to us for the order. The food came out right away as they had runners bringing them out, so that was good. The noise level was also really high (music more than anything) so we all were hoarse after the meal (it was a Sunday evening so I'm not sure why the music was so loud). I would go back just to make sure it wasn't a fluke kinda night and I would definitely order other items on the menu, as those were good.
Hi GoddessAthena: Thank you for sharing your review with us. I am so sorry to read that your meal, our service and the noise level all left something to be desired during your visit. :/ Our Management Team has read your feedback and will look into this with our full staff that worked on August 11th. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and hope for the chance to welcome you back soon! Please call us at (202) 464-3001 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
They had a brunch till 2:00. Reservation was for 2:15. We were not there for the brunch. They sat us a little before 2:00. The person who sat us told us that normal menu would start later but we would be able to still enjoy the brunch until 3:00. So we reluctantly decided to go with brunch. This was a mistake. Food was not being replenished! And I was not happy with selection.
They didn't seat my group until about 25 minutes after my reservation time and it was another 15 minutes before the server got around to seeing us.
We came into farmers and distillers at 2pm, at which point we could have the all you can eat brunch or order lunch. Our hostess seated us and told us nothing. There wasn’t a waiter anywhere in sight. 20 minutes later a waitress came by and told us all 6 of us had to do brunch or lunch, but we couldn’t choose. Another 15 minutes later a waitress came by and poured us water into some dirty glasses, and didn’t even make eye contact or smile. We waited another 15 min and no one approached us for our drink orders or even came by to check on us. After sitting at the place for 45 minutes with barely any attention from any of the staff we left.
Hi OlgaF: Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I am very sorry to read that our team absolutely failed to give you & your guests a wonderful start to your experience, and after an unfortunate delay, you & your party left without dining. :( This is truly unacceptable on our end, and I would love the chance to touch base & look into this with our Management Team. That said, I will send you a follow up PM with my contact info. -Amy
It was extremely disappointing that we arrive Sunday for a 1-1:15 brunch and everything is always out. The Salmon, Ham, Bacon, Fruit, sauteed vegetables were consistently out every time we got up over the 1.5 hours that we were there. It seemed like a lot of the stuff that normally constitutes brunch was not being replenished. I wish we were given the option to just order off the menu because that is completely unacceptable to charge $33 for a brunch with very limited options. They even brought out salmon once while i was there and all 15 tiny pieces were gone within 1 minute and then everytime we got back up it was gone. I asked for the fresh fruit and all they said was "it is on the way" It was not replenished the whole time i was there until my group left.
Hi juiceisgood13: I am so sorry to read that the buffet items during your recent visit were not properly replenished during your time with us. I agree this is extremely disappointing and would love the chance to touch base. I will send you a PM with my email address to hopefully continue with this conversation. -Amy
Food and service were very good.
Worst service ever. This is actually the second time we experienced bad service at this location. I thought the first time was just a fluke but seems to be the standard there now. We won’t return, even though they do have the best fried chicken.
