We offer an all-day menu of small, larger and sharing plates built around the best seasonal and local ingredients from the land and sea around us – think fresh off the boat Hastings Fish, Pevensey salt marsh lamb, Bexhill beef, Lewes charcuterie, Rye scallops, local Sussex cheeses and veg from a small organic farm in Hailsham.
On top of that, we include some star finds from our friends across the Channel – fiery chorizo, creamy burrata di Puglia, top quality Iberico ham and fine cheeses.
We cook veg in creative ways, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options alongside meat and fish.
We change our menu regularly and add specials on a daily basis.
All our dishes are designed for sharing, so order a selection for the table and
Had a fantastic evening at Farmyard, thank you to the amazing staff who really looked after us. Delicious food made from great local produce. We shared a large selection including steak tartare, oysters, a red pepper dip and whole roasted local mackerel that was amazingly fresh. The wine list is huge and really good value for truly exciting and interesting wines - there’s something for everyone.
1 hour wait for starter, we left after cancelling main. HIRE SOME STAFF
Hi Adrian/Flora/et al, It is a shame that you feel the need to use multiple platforms and names to air your views. To clarify, you came in on a Friday night 25 minutes before your booking time. We pay for online booking software to stagger bookings, so that guests are allocated enough time. Having not been able to secure the slot you wanted, you booked a later one and turned up early anyway. As a result you waited while our fully-staffed kitchen prepared dinner for other guests.
The whole experience was great apart from my Father not able to eat his steak. It was the Skirt which he had never had previously and was too tough to chew. A friend also tried it and agreed. Shame as everything else was perfect.
Worst experience in a long time. We arrived and the waiter didn’t have a table set for us even though we booked in advanced. We ordered drinks and had to change our order as they didn’t have any chilled of my choice. (They are a wine bar so you think they would). 2 drinks took over 10 minutes to arrive. We were given the menu and we said we had booked to have the pot luck pot as advertised. It wasn’t till another table arrived and a different waitress told them that the pot luck Thursday was off. We asked if that was right and she checked and it was definitely off. The website still allowed the booking. There was no apology no conversation of what else could tempt us. We asked for the bill and we never got it so we left leaving the money for the 2 drinks on the table. Most disappointed . I can’t rate the food as I didn’t have any. We walked up the road to st Clemente where we had amazing service and delicious food. Won’t be back to Farmyard. Which was disappointing.
Excellent food and a great atmosphere
Well intentioned but Sadly it was not good enough. Lamb overcooked and lacking flavour. Minced pork dish toooo small for main course. Lambs tongues tasteless. Oysters not nice enough...spring onions too strong a flavour and did not complement.
Very sadly they did not realise that the dairy icecream was not vegan.
Did not think that resident dogs were appropriate.... although it's good to be dog friendly....up to a point!
Chairs uncomfortable for slow dining...music louder than necessary.
Would love to be kinder...but it's not cheap and therefore it needs to up its game to honestly command the price.
Fabulous food as usual and really knowledgable staff regarding the wine and specials. Have been coming here since they first opened and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!
Excellent Sunday Roast, can’t recommend it highly enough! Glad we returned for it and can’t wait to come back here again. Service was once again impeccable.
Really sociable friendly restaurant with knowledgeable interested staff. Food is beautifully cooked and presented, as well as being slightly different.
Minor critism is seating. By the door or jammed up by the stairs isn't brilliant but get that you need to maximize seats.
Pate bit too fridge cold.
A gem of a restaurant!!
Booked this last minute and was very pleasantly surprised. Great food, helpful and attentive staff and a great atmosphere.
Would recommend trying to get a seat by the window if there’s only two of you.
The cheese selection is excellent and I’d recommend having the scallops and some oysters as they were delicious.
The food and service was so good that we’re returning for a Sunday roast before heading back to London.
Found this place by chance. Delicious, organic, creative dishes, with lots of choice (meat, fish, veggie based). Lovely atmosphere and a vast range of wine. A real gem, I’ll be back.
As always great food, great atmosphere and superb service.
We haven't been since this changed hands but were delighted with the new set up. The food was excellent and the staff so nice & helpful - and able to give advice. We will definitely be back
Very pleasant staff, good food. Limited choice but all local and fresh. A great place with lovely wine we will return.
Nice food but too expensive. £4.50 for a small can of beer? Large choice of wines but too expensive. Slightly over familiar staff. (Love?) . won't be a regular visitor.
Fantastic . Best Sunday roast in St Leonards / Hastings ...Great booze too ...
Great vibes .
That should cover it ...
This is our second meal at the Farm Yard the food was excellent.
However two things that took us by surprise and spoilt the overall dining experience were firstly the bill appeared on a scrap piece of paper with a handwritten figure and no breakdown.I didn't ask for a breakdown as I felt it would embarrass my partner.I'm sure trading standards would be disapproving of this practice.
Secondly and certainly the worst experience, on leaving both our clothes smelt of fatty fumes, which could only point to the kitchen extractor either not working or not there ?!

Amazing food and fantastic service - would 100% recommend!
We had a large table and had pre-ordered a chicken and two lamb shoulders. On the day we added and order of scallops and oysters. Everything was incredible!!! I want to take everyone I know back there!!! I hope that they are hugely successful and open forever!
Lovely natural wine, and nicely designed restaurant., the staff were extremely friendly and sweet
wonderful food, the quality is top drawer and super friendly service, the Lamb Chops and Vegan Platter are to die for
Really impressed with this restaurant.
Fantastic service, friendly and welcoming.
Fab menu, exciting choices.
Diverse wine list and knowledgeable front of house to help navigate it.
If we come back to area would come back.
Great for curious foodies.
Brilliant as always. Great steak this time, great wine and the service exemplary.
we enjoyed our visit, we had a table for 6 so we booked well in advance as it gets busy. The menu is a bit confusing but they take the time to explain. I think they should include a set fish dish on the menu rather than just changing with the specials. the quality of the food was very good, although we felt is was just a bit over priced for a casual dining location. The staff were very nice and helpful. my only criticism is the tables are too close together, not much privacy between tables and difficult to move in and out. the starter we had, a sharing platter was very tasty.
Great food and service as always, friendly staff and very helpful
Some lovely new items on the menu. New Chef has started with some great ideas. Food was delicious coupled with attentive service with a smile and humour. Very enjoyable overall experience.
Wonderful, thoughtful service and great food. A superb place for a relaxed meal. Thank you.
Ate my weight in cheese and have no regrets!
It was my birthday and what a treat to come to Farmyard to celebrate. The food, wine, service were excellent. When it was The Wine Shed it too had some magic, but I would say the new owners have gone out of their way to make the atmosphere even more magical! The menu is modern and interesting. Their wine list is second to none! They are always updating their website and their Facebook page, keeping their regulars informed of new menus, wines and events. I would highly recommend making a visit - in fact we're returning today for Sunday lunch!
Love the story behind this place and the passion from the owners is incredible. Wonderful food and lovely find in St. Leonard’s.
Lovely experience at Farmyard. Food was delicious, wine too and the staff were very friendly. Definite recommend.
Interesting spot, was really wanting Farmyard to be great, menu looked good, lots of drinks options and the restaurant itself had character, but something was lacking. Firstly a number of dishes weren't available, then I'm not sure if we ordered wrongly, but the vegetarian options we chose were either cold or drenched in sauce. Pretty hit and miss overall. Mushroom croquettes sounded good, but were pricey for what they were, Aubergine smash was lovely. The beetroot and hummus main ok, but the hummus wasn't smooth or particularly standout and the beetroot wasn't roasted. The whole roasted cauliflower main was really disappointing. Again this wasn't roasted, boiled in advance and finished off in the oven. It was served cold and there wasn't much of an apology after it was sent back. Came drenched in a tomato sauce with loads of alioli. Could have been executed a little better. Might be tempted back again.
Such a good place. Really friendly helpful staff and a lovely ambience. Menu was great. Ewe chose all vegetarian and it was first class.
Fabulous. Would recommend. Best in St Leonard’s
Very interesting menu which the staff were very knowledgeable about. They had obviously tried and tested the dishes that they were serving and were able to answer detailed questions about them. The same is true about the wine and beers. Staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Food is locally sourced and delicious. This is why you might feel the bill will be a tad expensive.
Lovely food, atmosphere and great wine. Very good friendly service. We all enjoyed it and will definitely return
Fantastic evening as a group of 4 we had a lovely evening. Was made to feel comfortable, and very welcome, food was lovely and service fantastic. Will be returning
Great food and fantastic service.
We really like The Farmyard and will always support and recommend this local restaurant. BUT we hit it on a peregrine's Christmas party night and it was unbearably noisy. The staff did really well and kept cool and made us feel welcome but it was so noisy. I also feel that the options for those who don't eat meat are painfully limited. And is The Farmyard getting just a little too expensive?
!st time I went to Farmyard was amazing . his time the food was well below average, and dont think Ill be going back because of this. How can the same menu differ so much ?
