We believe that food and drink should taste bold, fresh and earthy — and never exactly the same. We bring together the best farm, sea and craft produce, and pair them with real-tasting wines and local beers.
We offer an all-day menu of small, larger and sharing plates built around the best seasonal and local ingredients from the land and sea around us – think fresh off the boat Hastings Fish, Pevensey salt marsh lamb, Bexhill beef, Lewes charcuterie, Rye scallops, local Sussex cheeses and veg from a small organic farm in Hailsham.
On top of that, we include some star finds from our friends across the Channel – fiery chorizo, creamy burrata di Puglia, top quality Iberico ham and fine cheeses.
We cook veg in creative ways, with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options alongside meat and fish.
Wonderful restaurant, waiter was so helpful and friendly, made us feel incredibly welcome. Food was amazing, along with the decor and the general vibes, very lovely experience, would highly recommend.
Lovely place, friendly owners, fantastic wine, interesting dishes, what's not to love?? Will go again next time I'm in Hastings.
Service was really good. We were talked through the menu, given recommendations and even offered things that weren’t on the menu. Food was absolutely delicious. I’m still dreaming of the Salted Pollack Crostini! We will definitely come back, maybe for the Sunday roasts next time.
Fresh tasty food, friendly staff and cosy atmosphere
As ever , Sunday Roast at the Farmyard is the best. Amazing foods , wine , service and ambience ..The welcome is second to none ..
A very interesting menu, unusual ingredients and perfectly cooked. Makes a great change to go somewhere where the food is exciting! The choice of wines is outstanding and to be able to have a glass or two of really good wine made it even more pleasureable. We will definitely be going back!
Superb dining experience showcasing excellent local produce in a relaxed local restaurant. Thanks for making our trip to St Leonard’s so memorable!
The passion of the staff was the first thing that struck me - they are informed about the food and the wine and can offer guidance. We really loved the fact that you can choose a selection of small plates or have a starter and a main course. It's really added to the cool vibe in this part of St Leonards and we'll be back for sure!
We absolutely loved it , food was a triumph , creative menu , we shall definitely be back to work our way through it . Staff are great , bistro stiley atmosphere , just brilliant . Well done you lovely lot x
Food was ok, could have been a bit hotter. We asked for one portion of beef to be well done but this was more medium. Restaurant was crowded and tables very close together.
I have eaten at Farmyard several times and the food has always been superb. The last time the service was terrible. It was fully booked but the staff appeared rushed and we waited for a very long time for the dessert menu after being asked if we wanted to see it and then even longer for the desserts themselves. The sign of a good team is when they are very busy but can still make each customer feel valued and listened to which sadly was not the case this time.
Although tempted by the mouth watering selection of Roasts, we went for a few sharing plates. Standout dishes being; Roasted Celeriac a delightfully tasty surprise, and the Salted Pollack Crostini which were simply heavenly bites!
Really relaxed feel in the restaurant, helped by the intimate size and nice decor. The waitress was chatty and helpful, and although we knew what we wanted it still was nice to have some help with wines etc. Food was delicious, very generous portion of mussels, although perhaps fewer chips than you would expect, but lovely nonetheless. Overall an excellent experience and very very worth the money.
The roasted beetroot with hummus was gorgeous, as was the chorizo sausage and fish crostades. The only slightly disappointing thing was the bread - a bit ordinary for mopping up such delicious juices! I would definitely go back and try out more things.
Came here on Sunday for an outstanding roast. The belly of lamb is sensational.
Lovely atmosphere friendly staff and wonderful food.
Tasty food cooked to perfection!
Excellent food, amazing wine selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff. I will definitely be coming back. We only ate the vegan options and they were delicious, but all the food being brought to the tables around us looked great.
Lovely venue. Great, welcoming and knowledgeable staff. Impeccable food thoughtfully sourced and cooked with a masterly touch. Delicious.
Fantastic and delicious
Fantastic, delicious food and evening. Thank you. Good one.
Great food, service, ambience. Interesting wine/beer list and ingredients locally, ethically and thoughtfully sourced. Take a bit of cash if you want to reward the excellent service because if you pay by CC you cannot add a tip. Thoroughly recommended
locally sourced interesting and unusual menu. Nice ambience and service, although the playlist could be less MOR.
Could do better:
The table spacing didn't work for me. I'd have preferred, while the restaurant was quiet as it was when we arrived at 7, to have had an option of a table for two that was not adjacent to one of the three other couples already dining. Wouldn't have been an issue if the restaurant had been busier.
I had fish of the day mackerel. Deliciously cooked, this was served with deep fried potatoes which made the dish overall too heavy.
My wife had the aubergine tagine. This was presented in an over-complicated way that did not distract from a dish that wasn't all that interesting.
We shared an apple and blackberry crumble which we'd have preferred a little less sweet.
In conclusion, we had slightly higher expectations because of the interestingness of the menu and would want to give it another go in a few months and try something different.
We ate at The Farmyard with friends on Monday evening. What a joy. Cute little place with a playful menu which encourages sharing your plate with others. Right up our street! Food was superb. Delicious flavours, lovely fresh ingredient blends and quirky presentation. Service was great and attentive. If I could give this little family owned restaurant 6 stars I would. So far it’s the best restaurant we have eaten at during our two years of living in Hastings. Oh and they have a great playlist!
Been few times and always great food and service. There are always specials, this time a chowder that was delicious.
Great wine list and they are always happy to make recommendations to match food choices.
Fantastic place - highly recommend.
We had two v pleasant suppers during our stay in St Leonard’s, a great neighbourhood restaurant with friendly service
Great service , Lovely choice of Food and Wine .Very enjoyable 👍
Delicious and huge Sunday lunch. Cooked to perfection and albeit a massive yorkshire pudding - it still managed to be light and fluffy. One of my favourite places to eat. There was a table of 16 on the day, but we were still served very quickly.
Great food and brilliant wine served by a lovely team. What more could you ask for?
Great food with a lovely ambiance and attentive waiters.
Without a doubt our favourite place to eat in St Leonard’s. Everything about this place was great, including the price. Wonderful organic wine and delicious locally sourced food. Robbie the waiter was great and recommended some dishes - try the courgette flowers and lamb chops! Will most definitely come back if we ever pass through St Leonard’s to try their Sunday roast and their lunch menu
Food was tasty but luke warm. (Aubergine Tagine)
Staff made no attempt to check whether the food served was ok or rectify this when it came to settling up. Very poor experience. It used to be very good.
As this was a special occasion we won’t be back.
I was really impressed with the quality and service. The waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable about the wine and food. There were lots of gluten free options. Portions were also generous. I had a taste of everyone's food and it was all superb! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Amazing Sunday dinner! We had the whole lamb shoulder for 5 people which was delicious. Could easily feed 2 more people. Extremely well cooked meat, gorgeous vegetables and huge Yorkshire puddings. Great place to go with the family. Booking highly recommended.
Positive: The place looks nice with a lovely lively mood. Menu is great and made with local produce. Negative: We waited one and a half hour for our food and the white wine came warm! We found the food quite average, for example courgette flowers stuffed with goat cheese, wonderful idea but the batter was thick and dry and the baby courgette was raw.. unfortunately not pleasant to eat. Salad came far too salty and the sausages part of the meat platter were dry and not that nice. Service was not that great either. Unfortunately we would not recommend it to other people.
Popular restaurant. Nice fllocbut rather limited menu.
Interesting food and very cosy place.
Great food. Great staff. Advice given on the amount of dishes needed which was spot on.
Will definitely be back!
Good place to catch up with an old friend. I hadn’t realised that the only choices at Friday lunchtimes was a fixed tapas-type menu. Slightly disappointed
Loved it so much I booked a table for the next night when half way through my meal
Blew my mind. It was full of amazing wines and the menu was interesting, varied and delicious. The atmosphere had warmth and charm.
