Everything is prepared in our open kitchen, including the sourdough bread, baked every day using our "mother" and our handmade butter. Meat, fish and vegetables are cooked over charcoal on our "Bertha" oven for incredible flavour.
Our approach is simple; handpicked ingredients, great cooking, carefully chosen wine and knowledgeable service in a refreshingly contemporary space.

Food well presented
All dishes good, starter main and for our son the dessert
Roast hake and clams terrific
appreciated the innovative sides too especially the carrots which were a new experience and you can’tsay that normally!
We had a good feeling from the momnent we walked into a very friendly reception from all the staff! This was typical of our experience during the whole meal. Being able to see the chefs at work was fun and reassuring and the quality of the ingredients and care in presentation of these was exceptional. Small menu choice which is normally a good sign for high quality and this was the case! Only down was our dessert was average and a little disappointing that we should end an otherwise lovely evening on a slight negative. Don’t be put off though, a must try if in Norwich
This local gem continues to go from strength to strength with a deep investment in locally produced ingredients. Always great food, good service and a welcoming atmosphere.
Great service and good atmosphere. The quality of the food was good, especially the fish though it could be more exciting in terms of flavour. The gnocchi we had was also well made but I would have liked it with some salsa or something.
Unfortunately, the scene was set when I first booked, I was informed I had the table for 2 hours, then on the day I was informed that I had the table for 90 minutes.
We arrived early, were seated promptly, ordered an apéritive and our meal. Drinks arrived very quickly, but before we had a chance to take two sips of our aperitives our starters arrived.
We like to finish our aperitives before the meal, then have wine with our meal. We told our waitress this was somewhat too quick! She apologised and said that service slowed down later in the evening. I asked if this was a quick food restaurant, or if it was cheaper earlier in the evening!
To be fair they took the price of my aperitif (which I didn’t drink) off the bill. But our evening was spoilt. It was our Sapphire wedding anniversary and we left rather disappointed after 70 minutes.
The food, although small portions was nice and the bottle of wine was good too. But the whole experience was poor from start to finish. Perhaps they have become too greedy, it is a shame as it had great potential.
I took my ladyfriend to The Farmyard because I had only heard good things about the food served here! Unfortunately I left the booking until quite late and could only secure a table for 2 at 18.30.
The food was very good; the cocktails, which were recommended by our brilliant waitress, were very good. The wine, which my lady friend selected was very good.
I have 2 negative comments to make: (1) the table for 2 was very small and could barely accommodate our crockery AND cutlery AND glasses; AND (2) the service was toooooo rushed!! We wanted to celebrate our 10th anniversary over the whole evening, NOT cram everything into a starter (which was gorgeous) and a cocktail (which was gorgeous) AND 3 rushed courses (which were all gorgeous!!).
We will return to this eaterie to give it another chance BUT next time I will ask for a larger table AT 19.30!!
Really nice pre-theatre lunch. We would recommend.
Another excellent meal at lunch time. Great wine list and brilliant service. Thanks Ben.
Food very nice from a limited menu.
Mussels tasty but very small.
Beer too expensive and £3 for a couple of bread slices!
Two large parties spoilt the ambiance.
Waiting staff very nice.
We went here for dinner for my husband’s 40th birthday. The service, ambience and food were superb, we couldn’t have asked for more. Extensive wine list to choose from and tasty, in season menu choices. Couldn’t fault it and would definitely recommend!
Visited farmyard with friends on Friday and have to say it was one of the best evenings we’ve had, food and atmosphere superb and we were served by the most friendly and helpful waitress, a must for anyone to visit for any occasion 👍
The snack of chicken wings and starter of courgette were both bland, and the latter came as a very small portion. Mains of bavette and gnocchi were better as was the side of roasted cabbage. Sides are needed which pushes up the price. Attractive room and good service but there are better food options in Norwich.
We had a good meal at Farmyard, although we would’ve liked more Makeral in our starters and my husband found the lamb to be far too fatty, hence the removal of the star.
The noise levels were very loud where we were sat in the middle of the room, I would ask for a corner table at the back if we come again.
The night we ate - there was a lack of starters and no bread ! Of all the things you run out of bread olives are kind of standard !
Food was ok you need to order sides... and they were nice - can be noisy so no good if you a little mutton Jeff !
Excellent food at not bad prices for the standard of cooking and actually remarkable value if you get the pre theatre\lunch menu
I so wanted to love The Farmyard. First impressions are great; service attentive but not over-powering or intrusive; menu looks interesting and a little bit different. However, I have to say that the food was underwhelming. It was beautifully presented but, frankly, bland. The starters were the most disappointing course so if we were to come again I'd go straight to the mains and puddings which were plentiful and tastier. Not tasty enough to command the price, though. I feel bad to not have loved it...food just not special enough on the tastebuds, I'm afraid.
Excellent service throughout our meal
Complimentary sparkling or still water
Carefully planned menu apparently changes daily
Well presented and tasty food with choice of sides
Wine by the glass was good and reasonably priced
Overall a very good experience, will return soon
It was our first wedding anniversary. Food was genuinely an experience, excitingly different, a real celebration of ingredients. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We went a la carte but the set menu looked exceptional value for money. Will absolutely come again and recommend to everyone!
This was the second time of visiting, first was for supper and this time lunch. fabulous and different.
We love coming to Farmyard. Food superb but best of all is the service. The two young women who were waitressing were excellent: helpful, friendly, knowledgeable.
We enjoyed an excellent lunch to celebrate a birthday. All staff were friendly and helpful. The food was tasty and beautifully presented. There was plenty for us with the set menu lunch but possibly those with larger appetites need to order sides to go with the main course. We will soon be back!
I had originally been put off eating here as there had a been a few comments about the noise. I wish I hadn't been put off as four of us had a great time on Saturday night and I wish we had gone sooner. The food is excellent, some really interesting combinations and the desserts were lovely. There's a long wine/drink list. The only thing we discovered it didn't have was cider.
Will definitely return
On arrival, an early 6pm sitting, the restaurant was quiet with only a few tables occupied but by the time we was leaving the busy restaurant was noisy. The food was very good the staff are all attentive.
I had a bad piece of monkfish, no meat on it, but was swapped instantly for a new one. Unfortunately you have to wait for the replacement while the other tuck in to their dinners.
The food is defiantly worth what you pay for but one glass of red wine was £11.50 ! I'm sure you can buy a decent bottle for that price.
Overall I would suggest to my friends go and try the food but be careful what you drink.
Drinking and eating go together, for me, so why spoil the experience by overcharging the drinks ?
Your food is good value so why can't your drink costs be the same ?
great meal and service, my new favourite restaurant in Norwich
Nice place, good food, quite expensive. Would recommend for special occasions
Our veg option was poor. Watch out the Norwich Ivy food and experience is going to hurt your custom once the locals find it. There food / service and experience is excellent value for money. Best policy is to raise your game on taste of meals which were generally average . On the positive side the presentation of food was excellent..top marks ..service was pretty good but you need more staff when busy..and on the plus side the wines were great.
PS Tip: when busy give out rolls and butter free as routine, it took far to long to take our order 20-25 mins so the starters came 35-40 mins after sitting at the table, looking around this seemed to be a common with a lot of hungry looking people just drinking and waiting.
Food excellent, unusual and well cooked and presented. Tasted fab. Service attentive without being intrusive, and knowledgeable about dishes.
This was my first visit to Farmyard and I was impressed by the variety of food available, the overall service (Ana was superb) and general set up of the restaurant. The staff were friendly and very attentive right from the moment we entered, we were given enough time to chose drinks and food without feeling we were being rushed, there was enough room between the tables and the seating was comfortable. My only very small criticism would be the noise; it was fine initially but as the restaurant began to fill the noise level increased significantly and, although not uncomfortable, it did make normal conversation difficult. That said, I would definitely recommend Farmyard to anyone wishing to eat good food at a very reasonable price in very nice surroundings.
Pleasant bistro style lunch with happy and enthusiastic staff.
Nice menu, but the set lunch gets a bit expensive when you add the vegetable in, but all the food we had was beautifully cooked.
Quite quiet when we went, so the usual hustle and bustle of bistro dining atmosphere was missing when we were there.
A great experience. My first visit and definitely won't be the last.
Great meal but quite expensive. Worth it for a special occasion though I missed a chocolate with my coffee at the end!
Good service and lovely food ,especially the chocolate dessert
Very friendly welcome and nicely spaced seating arrangement. Service was just at the right pace - not rushed and happy for us to leave time between courses. However, restaurant was not overly busy, which may have helped, but that was fine. Menu was very imaginative - perfectly cooked and presented with great balance of flavours, textures and ingredients. Excellent value at £19 for 3 courses . A lot of thought had gone into individual dishes particularly the starters and main dishes. Desserts slightly less exciting but that's being pernickety. Overall, a really happy experience and added so much to our day trip to Norwich. Would certainly visit again and recommend to other people.
Great evening in this lively bistro, excellent food and friendly service
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, the food, wine and our waitress were all excellent.
To be fed and watered with warm food in 30 mins is not on
My vegetarian food was excellent. My wife thought her carrots too salty but these were swiftly replaced. They very kindly produced a Happy Birthday plate for me.
Everything about the restaurant was outstanding. The food was absolutely perfect; service was superb and the staff were friendly; efficeient and attentive. A wonderful experience and we cannot wait to return to sample more of the menu. One of the best restaurants we have been to in many years
We simply cannot fault any aspect of our visit to Farmyard. Everything was perfect. The service was calm, but friendly. They were happy to wait for us to take our time to peruse the menu and drinks options. Every mouthful of the food was delicious. The menu was imaginative, but not overly complicated. We were impressed at the claim to change the menu each week, save for the odd favourite dish (the Farmyard Chocolate Bar). The meat was perfectly cooked and the sauces complemented well. There were plenty of wine options to match the dishes. We'll be going back and taking friends.
This is our second time at the restaurant and it will not be our last
