The Fat Badger
Food excellent but service rather slow. Having been served with main course we waited at least 5 minutes before any veg arrived.
Absolutely incredible food for all the family.
Excellent food and service!
Absolute credit to both bar and restaurant staff!
Just wished we had booked to stay in White hart hotel
Instead of du vin❗️
Best regards Richard berry
Dined 19 Oct 2019
Beautiful place, varied menu, I think the meals could include sides ie slaw for burger cans it such a small serving not really worth the extra, think the schnitzel should have a sauce, but we did really enjoy the food, and would come back x
We dined in the fat badger restaurant for 2 evening the food was excellent and staff could not do enough
Lovely restaurant, the staff were wonderful and the food delicious. We would definitely dine here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat in Harrogate.
Had an evening meal with my boyfriend. Ambience was nice. Food ranged from average (sirloin steak) to good (monkfish). Overall expected better quality for the price. Service was not great, a little slow and forgot to give us cutlery.
My partner and I visited for my birthday. Never been before but know people who have. Excellent value for money as the food was good quality, delicious and served very well. Would definitely recommend and go back
Fantastic service from start to finish, great feel as soon as we walked in and the food was fantastic. Will definitely return in the future!
Beautiful food, great value for money, lovely ambience and décor.
I was disappointed with the food.
I ordered the salmon macaroni cheese as a main, and the portion size was the exact same size as the side order size that my partner got, but £5.50 more expensive for the few pieces of salmon that were actually in it. Would have been better off ordering 2 x plain mac & cheese side dishes. Starter was plain. Just very basic pub food.
The staff were great.
The decor and environment was lovely. Suppose that also exacerbates how let down I was by the food. I expected a lot more from such a great venue and brilliant staff.
Called at The Fat Badger for Sunday lunch on 6/10/19 . Restaurant was fairly busy but not full . We waited at the entrance for someone to acknowledge us which they did fairly quickly, a gent in a suit and tie whom I assume was the manager . All good then he just pointed to a table and said “ it’s that one by the window “ . Usually in such an establishment you are escorted to the table with menus but not on this case .
Onto the food . We opted for the Sunday lunch . Main course came out really quickly, plate really hot , plenty of well cooked pork , mashed potato, roast potato and huge Yorkshire Pudding. We tucked in awaiting our vegetables which failed to arrive so we asked a waitress as she passed , still no veg, we asked another and finally received our veg a significant time after our main course arrived . We noticed that all the staff seemed to be attending to one big table, which is all well and good but we only had half a meal . Manger did not seem to be noticing anything at all . We had finished our drinks and nobody noticed and asked if we wanted more , which we would have had and no one asked how the meal was .However we opted for puddings , sticky toffee and apple crumble which were both delicious .
It’s a shame the service was not to the standard I would expect in the restaurant as the food was delicious, well cooked and hot .
We had a very nice evening at the Fat Badger on Saturday night. Good and friendly service. Well presented and very tasty food. A good but not too large selection - fish dishes particularly good (salmon and swordfish) but also excellent pork belly. Reasonable selection of wines at decent prices and we had a very nice bottle of Pecorino. All in all a very enjoyable evening.
I would recommend the Fat Badger as it was good food and value for money.
The food was delicious and plentiful. It was served very quickly and with extra of everything we asked for.
Also very good value for money.
We will definitely be going back and also recommending it to our guests who come to stay at our guest house.
I decided to come to the Fat Badger on a recommendation from a friend of mine and I can certainly say I wasn’t disappointed. The atmosphere was relaxing and romantic and the food was exceptional, probably the best steak I have had from a restaurant to date. To top it off the sticky toffee pudding was delicious and I would highly recommend this place to everyone. The service was also fantastic and I would happily return.
Lovely setting. Staff courteous and friendly. Food excellent and reasonably priced
As always the Fat Badger never fails to come up to its standards for Sunday lunch. Such a shame that the UCI has decimated the Town Centre of Harrogate and the restaurants which should have been packed on the Sunday were virtually empty. Our guests could not get across Harrogate so we called to say we were running late was it OK. They said early or late please just come!!! At least their trade will pick up when all this mess in Town goes, but how much will they have lost in revenue in the meantime. Other than all that excellent Sunday lunch with good friends.
The food was great. My wife is blind and was scared at a new environment. The waitress Rowan was fantastic. She picked up on her distress. Rowans care and compassion toward my wife was unbelievable. She made time to talk to her and reassure her. Besides the wonderful food, Rowan made the evening one to remember.
Excellant services .
Had market menu Excellant food and good value.
Very noisy as big party's in.
Dined at the restaurant twice in the past month. Food and service really good. The menu is quite extensive and would cater for most tastes. I would definitely recommend the Fat Badger and travelled from York to visit.
Surprisingly better than we expected for a hotel restaurant. Apart fron having to ask for the lights to be turned up so we could see each other and what we were eatng! The food was well presented and of reasonably generous proportions. Service courteous and above standard. The real let down was the coffee after the meal which was absolutely dire!! They did replace the first cup of weak 'dishwasher' but unfortun aately with a second cup that was stronger but equally tastekess.
Nicely position restaurant, lovely decor and ambience, staff helpful but need a little more training in customer awareness; lacking a good maitre d-hotel. Food nicely presented but needed more imagination. Tables need dressing with clothes to up the game. We arrived early at 6.30pm and service was a little over eager. Generally a good experience and value for money.
Loved this restaurant, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. It had a really lovely, relaxing ambience and subtle lighting. We moved on to the bar area which was great too with a live band playing. There is a lovely outside seating area, flowers all around it, complete with gas heaters for the chillier evenings as well as blankets provided. The staff were very friendly and we were made to feel welcome. I would definitely recommend the Fat Badger 😊
Excellent restaurant, food including vegan options were also excellent
Ordering arrangements for drought beers could be improved
Great place , great food, great service
What more do you want
Would definitely recommend
Excellent. Airy room. Friendly, professional and courteous staff. Excellent food. We really enjoyed our evening.
Me and my girlfriend went to The Fat Badger on a warm Sunday evening whilst stopping in Harrogate for the bank holiday weekend. What a place! beautiful old building with a grand dining room with candlelit tables. We were given a window table with a view of the town. Great service all evening from the manager. Attentive but not in your face which was perfect. The mussels starter and confit duck main were both cooked and seasoned perfectly. Having been an ex chef I'm quite fussy with eating out but the food, ambience and service was very good. We will definitely be back next time we're in Harrogate. Thanks The Fat Badger!
Took my wife for our wedding anniversary. Both had the Sunday lunch absolutely outstanding. The beef was cooked to perfection generous portions. Desserts were equally as good. Great selection of ales and lagers. Just wish it wasn’t that far from home.
A1 food , service , staff . Love this place , always pay a visit when in harrogate
Great food choice, service and ambience.
This is one of our favourite choice for Sunday Lunch, highly recommended.
Stopped in on the way home for Sunday lunch, I had a feta and pea starter followed by roast pork, very tasty and the roast pork was a huge plateful! The staff were friendly and the price very reasonable.
Joint birthday celebration (40th &47th) with good friends. As soon as we arrived there seemed to be a dislike to us by the staff. The waitress almost throw the wine in the table, no pouring. The waiter was actually rude to one of us. They tried to take the food order before we had even got our drinks, which took ages. And we had to ask for the vegan menu a few times. I have been before and it’s been great. But after this experience we will never go back. Our night was ruined and I actually ended up crying (on my birthday!) never never again! Really disappointing.
Great food & nice atmosphere.
From the time we entered the restuarant we found the staff very friendly. The table was not too close to the next one which is always good. The decoration was very nice with some very nice art work. Table service was excellant given enough time to choise what you wanted but not so much time that you would think that had forgotten you.
When the food come it was hot and very fresh and tasty, portion size was good.
Would defininately return to this resturant again when in the area.
Great service, great food with a varied menu at reasonable prices!
Dirty tables in bar area.
Cold, unhelpful and unengaging Maitre d' and waiters.
No advice on wine, specials, vegetarian options or recommended dishes.
Asked for mint sauce to accompany the lamb and was me t with a resounding "No!"
All three meals were extremely average and the atmosphere cold and unwelcoming.
We didn't even bother to stay for desert or coffee.
The Ala Carte menu was very disappointing and limited and nothing more than a 'bar' menu, which I found out later it was.
The 'Grill' at the Fat Badger is nothing more than a very average 'pub grub' eatery.
I do not recommend!!
I booked a restaurant table for 5.30 which was confirmed on open table but on arrival was told this wasn’t an option before 6pm and we had been placed in the bar. This was not what we were anticipating and we found the ambience of loudish music and busy bar uncomfortable. The young staff were pleasant, the food very average-pub grub , not fine dining. Our expectations were not remotely met and I suggest that it is made clear when booking on line that even though the table times are are shown as all pm this does not apply to the restaurant before 6. Most disappointing.
The fat badger i can recommend it is fine dining. Food, service, and choice is excellent. Ambiance and decoration perfect.
Lovely table, very nice ambience. Staff initially very attentive but this depleted as the restaurant got busier. Food was excellent and wine choice good.
