Our eggs benedict
I took a prospective student to this restaurant. The staff were super friendly and the waitress did an excellent job. She was very patient as we could not decide what we wanted to order. The food came out delicious and in a timely fashion. It was a great experience as I was glad to show the student that Penn State and State College has much to offer.
Ordered a buttermilk chicken sandwich and it was so over fried I couldn’t even bite into it. Waiter was so nice and took it off the bill.
Awesome beer selection and great service, food was average but would go back again and try something else like the pizza!
Very good food and service
Great beer selection. Food was very salty. Very.
Based on the mixed reviews I have read, I was not sure what to expect. Great beer selection, but very good food as well. I had the fish tacos which were yummy. My husband loved his crab fries and brisket sandwich. This was a first-time visit for us and the couple with us and we all agreed we would return. A nice bonus is that you are up high and have a nice view of downtown (including all of the awful high rises going up in State College, but oh well...)
Yes, I would recommend the restaurant, by saying 'It's fine.' Service was excellent and beer was delicious but otherwise . . . it's fine. The aesthetic is disjointed and the bar feels disconnected from the seating area which is odd for a tap house. Not sure what the restaurant is trying to be. The big disappointment was the food. The Caesar Salad was too limp to eat and the Fried Chicken sandwich had strong overtones of burnt oil. My colleague devoured the fish tacos, however. This trip was a miss, but I'm likely to try again.
Celebrated New Years there and it was wonderful food and ambiance.
Great experience tonight as first time diners. We had a waiter and an assistant who were both attentive and able to answer our questions.
Once the waiter realized we were his table, the service was excellent. The food came out quickly. Got the fish tacos, a mushroom pizza and calamari. We sent the calamari back because it came out cold. The tacos were very good, but the mushroom pizza was out of this world. The best pizza in town! Will go back soon!
Food was not good
Had a very nice evening at The Federal Taphouse. Our meals included the tuna, salmon and short rib. Preparation was very nice. Service was attentive. The atmosphere was great. Quiet enough for a good conversation at the table. TVs were everywhere if you wanted to watch a game. Definitely recommend.
Great beer list, both on tap and in bottles. Food was delicious, service attentive. I will definitely be back.
I really want to love this restaurant because it has a great location and potential. However, I ordered the Kobe burger medium rare. It was so overdone when it arrived that it was at least medium well. There was not a trace of pink meat on the burger the outside was charred. It was honestly one of the worst burgers I've had in a long time, and for sure the most overdone I've can recall eating. Had I not been in a hurry, I would have sent it back. The fries were a good touch but there are far too many and between the super dry burger and the dry fries it sadly wasn't a great food experience.
Made last minute reservation for brunch and it worked out great!! The restaurant was not crowed, the food was good, and it beat waiting in line at the Waffle Shop!!
We flew in from Chicago for the Michigan game at Penn State and booked on open table. The restaurant told you it was a buffet and required pre-payment, which for a busy football weekend made sense. What they didn’t tell you is that it was not a reservation in the restaurant, but rather in a meeting room for the hotel that was adjacent to the facility. Needless to say it was extremely disappointing and we left after 20 minutes. They proved a lot of information in the notes section of the app a lot how late you could be and how long you could stay, but failed to mention that seating would be in a hotel meeting room.
They ran a special buffet in a dingy, no atmosphere room with mediocre food. Really disappointed.
Ran out of multiple items, waiting 20 minutes for drinks to arrive only to be told certain things are out. Food arrived about 1 hr after ordering. Staff appeared to be trying to help but it seems the kitchen was probably understaffed and unprepared for a game weekend. Previously had a good experience so this was unexpected. Food was mediocre at best and overpriced. They have some work to do.
Have to say my meal was very good. Wife said hers wasn't at all hot. Waitress was attentive, so that counts for a lot. With four of us, total was $127 before tip. Couple mixed drinks, 3 appetizers and 4 sandwiches. More than I normally am comfortable spending. But I realize some people would probably say this was a decent value. Overall, I am glad to have experienced the restaurant, but unlikely I will go back except for a very special occasion.
We've been here several times but this was probably the last. Beer list is fantastic. Food is generally OK, but they struggle with quality on a few items. "Soft" Pretzel was dry and had the consistency and taste of a stale hot dog bun. Chicken on the salad was like rubber and literally inedible. Short rib was sliced up and firm like a tough steak, rather than braised or slow-cooked which should shred. They were nice enough to offer a replacement meal for the short rib and took the chicken off the bill but only after we requested it.
Can't go wrong with this place. Comfort food - something for everyone. Everything was very good! As expected! Thank you!
Good food. Convenient location downtown. Hummus plate and fish taco delicious!
Fun place to have dinner and or watch a game Excellent food!
The tailgate party was a joke. $38.00 for cold sausage, fake chicken, baked beans and cole slaw. Chick Fil A puts out a better meal
Thank you, Federal Tap, as always for being so accommodating. In the middle of State College on football weekends and this staff and it’s management always strive to accommodate customers. The food is great and the beer selection is one of a kind.
Our favorite casual go-to spot time and time again!
Food server was attentive and food brought out quickly. But what happened to the avocado toast? There are a hundred restaurants to choose from and I came back to this restaurant just for that. Major bummer.
This place looks nice but you pay for it. $7.50 for a kids meal and $3.25 more for milk. Then we asked for a side of sauce which was 1oz and was charged another $1.50. That’s one example. It got worse from there. If you want to charge $9 for a beer too don’t nickel and dime me. Not a good place to take your family or friends for dinner. Maybe on an expense account. Not happy.
Crab fries were good, and alcohol was also good. Just kinda expensive in my opinion. Probably wouldn't go back, food was okay.
Excellent pizza and would definitely go back for the crab fries....Amazing!
The food was great and our server was awesome at making suggestions.
Beer selection is expansive. We ate at 5:30 on a Sunday (college kids not in town) so there were very few people in the restaurant. Service was good, in and out in under an hour not that we were in a hurry. Only complaint was that table was sticky but other than that, food was good and would definitely go back.
This was one of the worst experiences ever. Came here for the beer and was so disappointed. The waiter messed up my flight not once but twice. When I asked him he argued with me and blamed his bartenders. Did not do anything to remedy the situation. So disappointing
Its Dogfish Head IPA. The food was ok at best. When considering the price, not even remotely worth it. Like the food, service was ok at best. Not special and again not up to par with how much they charge. They dumped our to go creme brulee straight into a cardboard container. They could've mentioned that they didnt have a to go container for it when we ordered. Just no real thought or consideration put into anything. Which is fine except for when you're paying $130 for mediocre food. Be aware, beer at the front desk is $30 a bottle. Never coming back.
Beer selection is outstanding. A good offering of PA local and other great craft brewers in the north east. The food is a bit Bar Food like, but acceptable. Fish Tacos were very good.
I would recommend The Taphouse to someone who wants a vast selection of craft beers and good pizza and fries. I think I made the mistake of ordering the fish and chips which was awful. The tartar sauce tasted old, bland, and gross. My girlfriend got the pizza, as usual, which was awesome. Fresh cut fries are always good.
Stopped in on a Sunday night, place was empty. Should have left, no energy and the food was so so. Tucked inside Target which is an omen. Go elsewhere.
The food is fabulous- highly recommend the crab French fries! I would like to suggest a lighter menu for summertime. A lot of the items are great for winter but too heavy for summer. We will definitely come back!
We enjoyed trying new beers but when I found one I really liked, they ran out!
