Fish! Kitchen Kingston
Located in peaceful Kingston on Coombe Rd, Fish! Kitchen undoubtedly serves the best fish and hand cut chips in South West London. Popular with lunchtime crowds, this restaurant caters for adults and children alike. The kids can choose from a kiddie menu and leave the adults in peace as they scribble all over the paper place mats with crayons supplied by the restaurant. Favourites include classic prawn cocktail to start and the swordfish club sandwich, a modern twist on the traditional.
Fish was so fresh service was sent at your pace we took our time and enjoy a gape in between each course. We had oysters and the lobster was so tasty and left feeling very full. Going back on Wednesday as it was so nice.
Battered fish and chips no better than average and not worth the six pounds extra for eating in the restaurant rather than the takeaway price. There was also a whiff of fish in the restaurant, which may sound strange but I always believed that if fish was really fresh there is no smell
Whilst the fish was fantastic, the batter was disappointingly soft like it had been sitting around for a while. Wonderful mushy peas but average and not plentiful chips. For the price paid - disappointing.
We always love our visits to the Fish Kitchen. The food is always of such a good quality and never fails to impress us.
Perfect place for fish-lovers - obviously! Delicious food, generous portions, very friendly atmosphere. Not the cheapest, but then you have to pay for quality.
Fantastic service, fresh produce - the food is excellent. Always an enjoyable experience and will be back again soon.
Had a really enjoyable evening, good food and overall great experience
Outstanding food, service, choice of dishes, short and good wine list. The quality of the food and is preparation is Michelin star worthy, service is very attentive and all staff great! Can highly recommend it, best fish meals ever.
Overall the food and prices were good, but the service needs some work. When we asked if we could have the slightly larger table the waiter rudely said no as there maybe walk-ins although the restaurant was half empty. The second waiter didn’t understand what the bowl for washing hands was for and decided to remove it while we were still eating or mussels. The places is very bright with pumping music. More of a glam fish and chip shop.
Brilliant fish well cooked. Tempura prawns wonderful and the in-house smoked salmon excellent. Always a treat to choose something from the superb fishmonger next door for the grill.
Good food, pleasant but not outstanding service. We were not offered water. I would definitely return if in that area.
Amazing place, great quality and fairly good value for money. will come back soon
A late booking for Valentines Day and very pleasantly surprised. Great service and excellent quality
Great fun, nice and different venue, good service, food excellent.
Very welcoming but many empty tables.
Excellent food as always. Superb crab and could not have been more helpful about doing a whole crab for three to share. Simple surroundings but you go for the food. Staff very helpful
What a pity…
We have been regular customers for many years averaging 2 visits pa. It has always served the best fish in SW London but as a glorified chippie that’s all you went for: front of house, ambience, service quality, comfort were not to be expected. Never cheap but the portions of top quality fish were excellent and oysters outstanding.
Saturday’s visit started badly and went downhill. On arrival the manager was tearing a strip off a junior in front of customers. None of the staff were recognisable, it was half-empty. The customers were not the usual locals.
We started with smoked salmon which was tiny but tasty according to my wife. The crab was not a whole shell but a small portion but at nearly £10 each, way over-priced.
For mains, my wife’s grilled cod was still raw so sent back (the adjacent table had to do the same for their order). My grilled plaice was not the usual whole but only a fillet, served trendily skin up but reminiscent of school semolina: grey, congealed and limp and my first mouthful was mainly bones. The tartare was clearly not fresh in a small unappealing pot.
As a chippie, you can expect well cooked fish and with the supplier next door, filleting should be boneless. Something was clearly wrong.
We were served by 3 different waiters and when the bill came, the manager offered to knock off the plaice. But add a small sparkling water, bottle of wine and one chips, it was still £80 before service. Frankly very overpriced for portions which have halved since the last time.
We will not be going back and the reviews online clearly cover both Kingston and Borough Market which we have not visited which may be better judging by comments – but we will not be trying it.
Sadly, one to cross off our list…
One of the best fish meals we have had in London. Excellent.
Great quality fish, from the same company's fishmonger next door, Jarvis. Not cheap, but for the quality, generous portions and skill in cooking, good value. Nice, cosy environment - totally unnecessary noise (noticeable, but not deafening) from piped radio though.
Entertained two friends from USA who loved the place and said they were very glad we chose it. We always enjoy our meals at Fish! Kitchen, Norbiton.
Although it took some finding as we walked from Kingston well worth the effort. food was superb with just the right portion size and the quality fantastic. will definitely re visit and try the Borough Market restaurant.
Very tasty food with a variety of options, nice helpful staff, recommended.
Fish! is one of those restaurants that is completely genuine. They say they will provide the highest quality fish prepared in the best way possible and that is exactly what they do. I particularly like the option whereby if what you want something that isn't on the menu, you can ask for something from the Fish! fishmongers next door and they will serve it straight up.
Great for lunch and dinner, can be pricey but then top quality fish served in the best way possible is not cheap!
Was very disappointed the food was badly presented and the not up to standard for the price had a few issues which spoilt the evening a waste of £160
Was very quiet for a Saturday night which affected the ambience a bit. However, the food was fabulous and great VFM. I have also had take-away from the Fish Kitchen which are equally good. The fish is always fresh and beautifully cooked.
Very good fresh tasting wild sea bass and cod and chips. Happy to replace salad with a veg option. Water was no brought to table. Wine choice could be better, e.g. Macon blanc, Albariño?
A nice clean well established fish restaurant! A favourite....
We have been going to Fish! Kitchen for years. Excellent for local dinner, very family friendly and the fish is of very good quality.
Was there for the second time. My
Friends and I enjoy the meal and the atmosphere. Will certainly call back
Our meal was disappointing compared to the high standard usuall at this restaurant. Mussels were barely cooked, chips were over cooked and the batter on cod and halibut was soggy.
Set Lunch was good value. but a la carte was expensive for a simple fish restaurant And wine seemed extortionate......£29 for a NZ Sauvignon ! Service was correct but a little 'stiff''.
Delicious fresh fish restaurant with great service
The fish was good quality - but the halibut was a little overcooked. The service was hurried and somewhat muddled. Overall quite pricey for location and ambience of restaurant (they also operate a take away counter)
Everything was good, however the service was super quick, we could have finished our meal within 40 minutes of arrival so was not particularly relaxing!
Wonderful local restaurant, great food and service. Lovely atmosphere sitting outside on a summer's evening.
The food was just yummy !!! Nothing crazy simple delicious Dishes perfectly cook. Can’t wait to go back again
We did not experience the service issues that other reviewers have detailed. We did however evidence someone at the table next to ours who sent their meal back because of a hair.
I ordered the Seafood Soup as a starter - it was a reasonable serving size and tasty. This was the only redeeming feature on our visit. I then had the fish and chips (with Cod). Given the menu prices we thought that Fish! Kitchen Kingston might be of a better standard. I have been enjoying fish and chips with cod in various locations around the UK as we have travelled around (we are from Sydney). As well as being by far the most expensive , this was by far the worst and most expensive example of Fish and Chips that I have had. The dish was utterly tasteless. The batter was also appallingly bad - similar to tasteless damp cardboard in texture. My wife had the same experience with her grilled plaice. Needless to say we wont be revisting Fish! Kitchen Kingston.
Simply excellent. Enjoyed best fish and chips in memory. An excellent representation of the restaurant in the city, even though it looks unassuming from the outside. Lovely atmosphere on a Friday night, particularly as it seems like a popular place with local residents.
A local favourite and never disappoints. Excellent tempura prawns with sweet chilli sauce (I may have mentioned them before!). Light and delicious beer batter - we chose haddock and halibut - both great - fresh and beautifully cooked. Our dining companion ordered the Lemon Sole which also looked very good. Friendly and unobtrusive service.
