Fishers combines the intimacy of a neighbourhood restaurant, with a polished menu and attentive, personal service. The entire menu is sourced seasonally, sensibly and ethically.
Fishers Restaurant is located in the heart of Clifton Village, Bristol a beautiful Georgian shopping quarter featuring a plethora of independent boutiques, hotels, shops, delis and jewellers… Just a stroll away from Brunel’s Suspension Bridge, Royal York Crescent, the Zoological gardens and Durdham Downs, Fishers is the perfect place for a lunch interlude or a destination dinner.
this is a lovely neighborhood fish restaurant, but one that welcomed new customers with friendly open arm's, the food was fresh and well presented, the staff so enjoying their work, a memorable evening all round.
Nice welcome, excellent service, great food and wine and good to see such an extensive range of options for a gluten free diet.
Excellent meal for a 70th birthday. All the food was fabulous as usual, especially the sticky toffee pudding which is particularly worthy of note as it is also gluten free.
Special order for the birthday girl was happily accommodated which was gratefully received.
The only very slight thing that let it down was the speed of service. There was only two staff on, they were both great but had a lot to do (so not really their fault). The plates remained longer than was ideal and we had to go up and ask for the bill as we could not catch them and they did not automatically bring it over. No major issue and certainly would not stop us visiting again, just thought it should be mentioned.
5th time I’ve been and sadly we were let down a bit by the service. No as efficient as the previous occasions; food took slightly longer than expected. They didn’t charge for service and overall dealt with it well. We will be back
Excellent seafood well served in convivial surroundings
Excellent gluten free fish and chips and a wide selection of items clearly labelled for allergies. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and the food was great. Hard to find good battered fish and chips without cross contamination risk but these guys use a separate fryer. My husband isn’t gf and he thought it was really tasty as well.
Great food, well presented and nicely cooked, great, friendly service
Without doubt the best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten. Only just found this restaurant but love it. Try the mussels as they’re fab. Quick service, great prices. I eat out a lot and have found it faultless!
Cool place, great food, amazing value on wriggle deal
Lovely food and lovely service!
The fish was fresh and very well cooked , I loved the crisp Italian white wine , it complemented the fish dishes very well. the service was very good and the oysters were fresh and succulent . it was a very good evening out and I thougfhrly enjoyed it .
Delicious seafood and cosy ambience as well!!
I have been going to this restaurant 3 to 4 times a year for the last 10+ years. The food and service was always exemplary...until the last two times we have visited. We put the penultimate visit down to them having an ‘off night’. On that occasion, the food was not up to the usual standard and the waitress we had was extremely annoying (everything was ‘amazing’ and ‘fantastic’), and we were made to move tables after ordering drinks?, this had never happened previously and was rather embarrassing.
I’m sorry to say, but the last time we visited will probably be our last. We had scallops and the chorizo was burnt, the wine at almost £30 was poor quality (I’ve had better £5 bottles) and even the side of chips were anaemic. This may well be the reason the place was dead at 8pm on a Friday evening.
Overall, I would have been embarrassed to have taken friends there after raving about it for so many years. This is not a cheap place and it certainly has not offered decent food and drink for the prices they charge.
We live in Bath and make the trip over to Bristol now and again to go to Fishers. It's a proper, no frills independent fish restaurant of the sort that Bath sadly doesn't have. We love it, service always good and the freshest of fish.
Food was excellent, waitress seemed flustered and forgot our wine order. Nothing complicated but all good in the end.
Very pleasant experience for a quiet birthday meal. The only concern was that there was quite a delay before our order was taken- not even the drinks order.
When the couple next to us had their order taken despite arriving after us we felt we had to ask the waitress for service. She was very apologetic and we then got our drinks quickly. The rest of the service and food was very good.
We went to Fishers having seen a review on-line, wanting to find a special fish restaurant for a Saturday evening. We were not disappointed! I felt like I was on holiday. The atmosphere was great and the staff friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The service was also very efficient and wine and menus arrived quickly followed by our olives and bread. We ordered the Seafood platter with extras and it was amazing. i don't think I have enjoyed a meal so much in a very long time.
We will definitely be back. Thank you for such a lovely evening.
Had the set lunch menu and honestly think it's the best value food i've found in Bristol after 3 years. Took my family there when they were visiting and they absolutely loved it. Will absolutely return
Hvnt been for a few years
Thought it wasn’t as good as it used to be
Although it was ok but nothing special
I had Boulliabase followed by the place which was white and firm with a capder sauce which complemented the delicate flavour of the fish very well.
Hi Susan - thanks so much for taking the time to leave your review! So happy to hear that you enjoyed the caper sauce (one of our favourite garnishes for the Cornish plaice!). Hope to see you another time soon!
Enjoyable time but felt food was not to the standard that we have had before. Fish batter greasy and roast fish certainly not roasted and swimming in butter.
Hi Ann, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your review - your feedback is so greatly appreciated, especially as someone who has dined with us in the past. We're so sorry to hear that you felt like the food wasn't up to it's usual standard on this occasion - we hope that you'll be back to try us again soon to allow us to show you how good Fishers can be. All best, Polly and the Fishers team
Expensive but great as a special event
Service was great food great
The hot shellfish platter was a bit of a disappointment, paying £8 for two crab claws that we could hardly see. The rest of our group had fish which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
The service was not good, very slow and at times I felt we were an inconvenience!
Will try somewhere else next time I want fish.
We really enjoyed our meal at Fisher's, but the service left something to be desired. It started out ok, but we ended up waiting over half an hour to get a dessert menu (in the end my husband went and got his own from the front of the restaurant), and then took a while to order the dessert. At the end of the night, we sat around for quite a while before giving up and going to the front to pay, since no one brought our bill or asked if we were gone. We spent probably 3.5 hours there and could have easily been there an hour less if if it hadn't have been for the slow service at the end.
This was our second visit to this restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Food was great, atmosphere good, will visit again next time we are in the area.
Beautiful food in quiet location. Good choice of fish and non-fish meals and unfussy service.
Excellent food and friendly, they adapted well to little people (son 1yr) and didnt realise they do a small quantity of non-fish items on the menu, which suits well as most of my friends dont like fish. The lemon possett was devine and far to good to share. Cant wait to go back!
I would absolutely recommend. What a restaurant , fabulous food, fabulous staff, will be returning as soon as possible. The seafood sharing platter was out of this world!
Excellent service and food at a favourable price. Will certainly visit again
The extensive fish menu was just what we wanted. Lovely staff and good communication when I was setting up the birthday meal.
Food really excellent and well presented.
Would certainly recommend.
We had the fish platter for three and although the food was good it consisted mainly of mussels with one large prawn each , one medium prawn each and one scallop each. Chips in a mug is a pet hate of mine. Seems like a reason to give a tiny portion and indeed I counted 10 chips in total when I would have appreciated a few more. Unfortunately we were next to the door on a particularly cold night and every time the door opened there was a very cold draft of air that hit us. The service was good but it seemed a little bit expensive for what was not a great deal more than a large plate of mussels. I have eaten here before and it was much better than this experience.
Good value for money if you manage to use their lunch offer or late dining offer. Oysters are really tasty, but the dessert selection is very limited, especially when using the offer.
The staff were friendly and attentive. The food though was disappointing - it was the smallest portion of fish I have ever seen! On top of that most of it was batter rather than fish. This meal was taken off the bill with no question but it should not have been served in the first place.
Good food but quite pricey for what you got. No bread with the fish soup.
We received a warm welcome from staff, but seating too close to feel comfortable, very noisy so difficult to chat to hubby opposite, maybe acoustics ! Both enjoyed starter, soup and white bait, but long wait for main and both disappointed ... Very small portions, both had smoked haddock, mine very dry and full,if bones. Then long wait for bill and had to go to entrance to obtain otherwise a further wait!! Must comment that we did go for set menu and only £9.99 so not too costly but just expected more from this establishment. However, I would give it a further visit and try main menu. Regardless of long wait staff were warm and friendly...
We have been coming to Fishers for years now and whilst the food has always been good the service has varied depending on who is working. However, it will not stop us from coming and now that the website has been improved I am able to book a table on line on a Friday where as whilst I could book on line any other day it refused to allow a booking on a Friday.
I’ve been coming to Fishers for many years. I love that there are so many GF and DFOs. However I was a little disappointed by the quality of the food this evening. The extra supplements for the battered prawns and also the fish and chips were not justified in my opinion. The chips were always something to look forward to but not tonight.
We are planning to return this week and I will be hoping this was just a blip.
May have been a bad night and certainly not the staffs fault, we arrived 8:30 and didn’t get our mains until 10pm, was on the verge of walking when the food arrived. Clearly a badly organised place and full of glum looking customers experiencing the same as us. They compensated us which was good but more honesty rather than apologies would have been welcomed
Our table was at the edge of a dividing wall, felt tack-on and uncomfortable. Some bits of food were over cooked and other bits undercooked (and inedible). Staff seemed rushed and flustered, like they were managing too many tables. So rushed they did not offer more drinks when we were empty and we waited for the pudding menu which never came. Food was over priced, poorly cooked and service was minimal.
Bit crammed in but otherwise fine; staff reacted quickly when drunk was flat and replaced very quickly - thanks
