Fishworks - Swallow Street is an absolute essential for seafood lovers. The restaurant offers a traditional wet fish counter where you can buy fish to take home and cook yourself, or you can select any fish or crustacean with our fishmonger and have it cooked there and then to your liking.

This chic stylish restaurant is only minutes away from the bustle of Piccadilly hidden away in an exclusive street. The whole restaurant opens its glass window façade doors creating a fantastic atmosphere great for corporate dining and enjoying a pre-theatre meal before hitting the West End.

Blackboards display our daily landings or diners can choose from our classic menu with delights such as piled-high fruits de mer, scrumptious South Coast scallops or simply the best gourmet cod and chips you will ever taste!

To start with, the receptionist did not have our reservation even though I have confirmed it the day before. Nevertheless, she gave us a table which wasn’t difficult just after 6pm on a Tuesday night.
After ordering a bottle of sparkling wine and water, we went straight for mains as we chose a three-tier tasting platter for two with many different bits. We asked the waiter to serve it with no whitebait as neither I, nor my friend likes it. The waiter kindly confirmed that they run out of whitebait anyway, so they will just add some more mussels or clams instead.
We received the first two tiers out of the three. One of the plates were full of whitebait. We politely told the server lady and the manager when serving the third tier that we do not like whitebait and ask without, so please remove them. They were quite prompt with coming back with what looked like the exact same plate. So nothing else instead of half a plate of whitebait.
We tried to have a little bit of everything straight away. The fried monkfish, halibut etc were all cold, they didn’t seem to be freshly prepared. Unfortunately, the grilled sea bass and sea bream were not warm either (this could be due to the slices being very thin though), same with the pan-fried spinach it was cold. Overall, the food was quote blank and tasteless.
A friend of mine topped up our glasses three times and nobody came over to our table to ask whether we are happy with our meal or we need anything. We might have asked for finger bowls since we cracked half a Devon crab open and picked all the way, had mussels, crevettes, clams etc, so it would have been much appreciated.
The manager didn’t seem to be enthusiastic throughout the evening, especially when a gentleman from next table passed his half a bottle of champagne to us prior to leaving due to not being able to finish it off on his own.
To summarize, disappointed in food and service as well. Maybe next year we’ll pick a better venue for my birthday…

I enjoyed Fishworks much less this time than on our previous visit. The menu hardly has anything I want to eat! (which is weird, seeing as I like fish). There's too much seafood. And the fish from the counter is REALLY expensive: we asked about a turbot, which would have fed four people but was >£140(!!) The seabream(?) from the counter would have been ~£40 for one person.
A Jewish friend was concerned about whether the fishsoup had shellfish, and the waitress assured him that it didn't, which just sounded unlikely to me.
Also, it's a bit rubbish to charge >£20 for sea-bass without vegetables, and then charge ~£5 for some broccoli.
On the plus side, service was good, decor is nice, they bring masses of tap water without fuss.

Warm welcome, very good service and nice food in central London, not something easy to come across! I met my son late after work and the relaxing atmosphere was a bonus.

We Had a booking for 6 pm. Arrived at the restaurant on time, requested for the set menu and we were told that the set menu was not available anymore - it was 6:02 pm.
Didn’t feel that the staff made an effort to understand the situation. The food was okay. We had the gnocchi and the seafood platter. Both were good but the fish was not completely fresh. The dessert is good.

Unfortunately the crab in the seafood platter was not fresh. The manger readily agreed to swap it for lobster which was absolutely fine. Wines excellent and good service but left feeling disappointed because of the crab wasn’t right.

At Fishworks you will not get the most creative cuisine but just good fresh ingredients well prepared, great service and advice making you feel welcomed and a very convenient location steps from Picadilly Circus.

I am shocked to be so disappointed. I haven’t had such a bad meal in London for years. We had a shearing seafood platter with sad looking oysters, cold deep fried calamari and monkfish and cold tasteless overcooked sea bas and sea brim. The manager was trying to do everything possible to make us happy but what can you do when the food is horrible. Such a shame to have such an awful sea food meal in seafood restaurants.
Unfortunately, Fishworks doesn’t work any more...

I would definitely recommend Fishworks to a friend. The food was fantastic.
I have only one recommendation to you - when somebody has a birthday and writes this in the reservation, it would be nice if you prepare a surprise for this person.

Wonderful flavors and friendly atmosphere.

Food was OK, but not hot.

Pre-theatre meal....i.e fixed lunch menu. Good welcome by name, quite private table, it's in a very quiet side street. Enticing looking fish counter. Excellent house sauvignon blanc! My decaf espresso was a bit bitter. Well trained staff - who were friendly without being over-familiar. This restaurant is not unique - there's another in Marylebone. They both sing off the same sheet and do not disappoint - if you like fish do go!

Steamed mussels served lower than room temperature Followed by two attempts to serve up a decent plate of fish and chips . So disappointed, particularly as we had recommended the restaurant to our guests . A big shout out to our waitress who dealt with everything professionally even if the kitchen didn’t !

We went to Fishworks weekday early evening when fairly quiet. Service was excellent. My partner's fish platter was very good. My seafood linguine was nice but could have had a bit more flavour. Desserts bit average but overall very good.

This is our third visit to Fish Works and it has maintained a very high standard over the two years we have been coming. The lunch 'deal' of fish and chips was excellent as were the mussels. The offer of prosecco and two oysters was REALLY well appreciated. The service was also charming. Well done!

We have been to Fishworks several times, and this was probably the best - we have always liked the food but there have been problems with service in the past which seemed much better on this visit. It's not a cheap place - our bill came to £85 a head for a main and a pudding each, but if you like fish and want the best then this is the place for you.
