Flavour Bastard Ratings and Reviews
Our meal was absolutely incredible. I had huge expectations, which were easily surpassed. The menu was bursting with creativity and flavour; everything was not only ingenious, but delicious. The thoughtfulness was inspiring. The experience was so clever and cultural that it was almost beyond a mere meal, and became a synesthetic feast for all senses. I simply cannot wait to go back and try more of the food (the cocktails were all blissfulyl as original and delicious as the food btw); salivating at the prospect.
This place is AWESOME. The food is creative without being stuffy or just damn delicious. We sat at the bar while we waited for our table. We ended up striking a conversation with Nick (the Baron of Booze) and decided to give up our table to stay at the bar bc of how awesome the conversation (and the drinks) were.
Could not recommend this restaurant any more fully.
Popped in for pre-theatre.
Food was outstanding. Really creative combinations, and very tasty. I think we ordered 90% of the menu as it sounded so interesting we wanted to try it all!
Service was informative, though little inattentive at times as it wasn’t particularly busy early in the evening.
I’d highly recommend, and can’t wait to return!
This has been the most creative cuisine that I have had in a long time. The menu is both baffling and brilliant, your logical brain tells you the combination of food can’t work, your taste buds tell you otherwise, while you find new sensors-delights! You simply must try with friends utterly brilliant.
My mates and I ordered the menu. All of it. Every item. And almost every item was a winner. We even tried the super spicy sauce, and got a second order of the fried chicken! You also con't beat the value of the house wine - which is both better and cheaper than it deserves to be!
This place fit the bill for a 4 friends catch-up. Despite the slightly aggressive name, FlaBa is actually a cosy, welcoming joint in central Soho. From the warm-welcoming, jovial, bearish Saffa maitre d, to the, as you would expect, magical mixologists at the bar, to our lovely waitress, this place delivered: leisurely drinks at the bar, waiting for all to arrive, great cocktails, beer & wine; unrushed we moved to our table, the vibe was great, we could all hear each other (!) but not other tables, perfect; menu and specials a feast for the eyes, slightly confusing ‘small’, ‘tiny’, ‘larger’ portion metrics and tapas style as-it-comes delivery, but this worked well for a convivial meeting among sharing, chatty friends passing them round. Flavour-flav on the palate (who knows the taste of frankincense?!) and a University Challenge for the taste buds!
70£ each inc drink for a home from home, seated and served, and we went deep on cocktails and food, I’ll be back!
NB After booking, I read the opening press reviews and had second thoughts. They were sniffy and snippy. Luckily I had third thoughts! Food critics, even DTE Grace Dent, do their job: which is to get read and market themselves for the next job? But few of us socialise and eat with our friends in the way food crits do when in 'review mode'. FlaBa was the perfect accompaniment to our evening, a fifth friend at the table, responsive but not intrusive. May it prosper!
Heard about this place from multiple groups of friends, all very positive, almost didn't go because they hyped.it so much didn't want to get dissapointed ,but am very glad.we went it was absolutely. Exceptional ,very warm friendly. Service, excellent cocktails ,the bar staff were very knowledgeable about the vast wine list they have, the food was just outstanding the play of textures vs flavours were spot on ,the goat loin, mussels, octopus each dish was a surprise, a very pleasant one at that, definitely recommend this place
An amazing place in Soho, was walking past after work and popped in to have a small bite to eat & ended up coming back with my partner for a meal the same night! The staff are lovely, the drinks are made fresh by the bar and the food comes out quick! I highly recommend this place
Was recommended this restaurant by a friend, need to thank him profusely ,everything about our experience was top notch ,from the service ,to the cocktails ,but the food was the star of the show every dish we had was outstanding, the cloud of curds, feta, mussels ,smoked goat, tandoori fried chicken, the octopus all the dishes were amazing and well put together ,a tango of flavours on ur taste buds, they crazy sounding combinations actually
