What Insiders Are Saying
Flavour Bastard is a fusion restaurant in Soho, where the dishes are a mashup of ingredients from different cultures and cuisines.
We booked in advance through Open Table and on the evening the 6 of us turned up the restaurant was closed for refurbishment. What the hell are Open Table doing taking bookings for restaurants that are not open for business. Ruined the evening we had planned. Not amused AT ALL.
Despite being reminded about our booking the day before, this restaurant was closed when we arrived for our booking. Can't comment on the food or service, but they should be able to advise booked customers that they are not bothering to open. Would not recommend this restaurant!
The restaurant was closed was some repairs. But nobody told us that it was closed. Open table didn’t contact me to let me know. I even confirmed the reservation a couple of days prior. We even called the restaurant and the here was no answer or information on their answering machine. Overall felt that was poor service on their part and bad business.
The restaurant accepted my reservation and upon arriving with my party was closed.
Is there a problem with this restaurant? Booked a table for Monday. Received a reminder from Open Table that day. Turned up. Restaurant shut. Not particularly impressed.
Booked weeks before for my partners 40th only to turn up on the saturday to find the place closed. Cheers for the heads up, what a joke this place is.
We came to London with our 6 month old baby to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my husband’s birthday. We made a reservation few days in advance to celebrate. When we got to the restaurant, it was shut. We were not informed and no explanation was provided. It completely ruined our entire night. It was a Thursday night, middle of soho with a small baby in a pram, we walked around looking for a place to eat but could not get a table anywhere. We walked around for an hour until we were near death hungry and had to settle for a street side shawarma. Extremely disappointed and will never return to this place. I’m sure it will make no difference to them but it definitely ruined our night. A terrible experience that we will never forget. This would never happen in New York.
Creative, tasty and pretty food in a nice atmosphere
Lovely food, nice flavours and something a bit different. The exec chef was on the dining floor so was great to get to speak to him and give our 2 pennies worth. Bit quiet when we got there which always worries me but that was no reflection on the food or service in the end.
Food was really good, but almost every item in the menu had something spicy on it (I have zero tolerance to spicy food, which left me with very few options to choose from).
Waiters were nice and polite, knew their menu very well but were a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn't busy at all.
Unpleasant staff. Literally no atmosphere whatsoever.
Very good, tasty food in the heart of Soho.
My date said it felt special...
The restaurant theme is sharing plates and there is a good choice of plates. The food was amazing - every dish was well thought out, unique and tasty. The menu could be clearer showing which plates are vegetarian.
We did enjoy the food at FB. Some dishes were more creative than others, but all were very well executed and presented. Cocktails are creative and well made. A lot of people have been moaning about the size of the dishes. I don’t share their opinion. It is made clear that the dishes are meant like Tapas and the staff recommend three dishes per person. We had three dishes each and were very well filled. Prices, at £6-11 per dish, are perfectly fair for London and the quality. Service seemed a bit confused at first, but turned out well throughout the evening. The room is modern in a stylish Soho kind of way if a little dark and doesn’t really inspire me to linger. I didn’t like the plasticky quality of the tables and the cutlery being provided in a ‘tin’. Keep it stylish and don’t try to add touches that are too casual. We did have a good time at FB, but is it a keeper? In the light of strong competition in London FB would have to come up with some very interesting dishes to try in order to bring me back.
Great food, loads of unique plates to try and all great. Service felt a bit rushed.
The food was wonderful but it was very quiet with no atmosphere - it had the feel of a new place with everyone still bedding. If they keep up the quality of the food then I am sure it will take-off
We have been wanting to dine here for a while and wow, it did not disappoint, we were so glad that there was no holding back on flavour, one of our best dining experiences for a very long time.
Only downside is finding time to come back and try the other dishes we didn't get as we stuffed!!!
Always love going to FB... flavours you have never encountered before and such a good vibe in there!
Excellent lunch and more filling than you think. Great flavours and interesting dishes. Will definitely come back.
The food was great, my only comment, that I hope reaches the management, is that it didn't quite all go together. When you do a meal of sharing plates - like tapas, or Asian food - the flavours and spices tend to be complementary and work together. The food at FB was really nice, but you were hopping between radically different things that could conflict a bit. (Maybe that's the whole point tho!) I wouldn't mind seeing if the waiters/menu can do more do to help cluster things that would work with each other, or maybe the menu can evolve in certain ways over time.
Generally food was really tasty, and liked the wine options as well.
Amazing food experience, attentive and professional staff. Definetely a place worth to pay a visit to!
The food was great, as it always is but the service was quite poor (orders were forgotten, needed to be repeated, weren’t filled) and the music rather too loud.
Loved the location, the food was amazing. The goat dish I had was just lovely. A little bit pricey as it’s about sharing small plates but was worth it.
Fun and great good overall. Recommended and worth a special trip.
The waiter will recommend for a "medium" hungry diner - 2-3 "small plates", 2 "tiny" plates, and 1 dessert. Note that this is actually enough for 2 "medium" hungry diners...
The Tandoori Fried Chicken was way too over-spiced - ask for less spice/curry powder on it if you order it.
While the food combinations sounded good on the menu, they failed to deliver on taste. Either they were too strong in one flavour or too subtle.
Amazing food and service!! We had a really great time here!
Waited 20 mins for a beer
The groups food was brought out separately.
Was empty and new staff. But good food
Great food and very good service. Drinks a bit too expensive when compared with food and the dining room is too noisy (only true downside).
A fun venue with really unusual tapas style food options and a good selection of vegetarian dishes. The food lives up to the brand, it's full of flavour and beautifully presented.
This restaurant was opened last year. I must say i’m impressed! Food was good nice service and atmosphere in the heart of Soho! Will definitely return again
A quirky restaurant, in a great location in the heart of Soho. The food is served as tapas with 3 dishes per person recommended. This can add up, but rest assured the food is worth a try. The cocktails were a weak point for me, but then again, I only tried the margarita. The restaurant is also incredibly loud, making conversation pretty tough, so sit close! All said and done, the food was good so it was definitely a worthwhile experience.
Drinks are great. Highly recommend the octopus!
Delicious, interesting sharing dishes. All three diners really loved our food! Would definitely recommend and return.
I thought the food was fantastic!! I bought a voucher from Timeout and in terms of value for money it was great. We had 6 dishes in total and we were perfectly full by the end. The dishes came out staggered which was great and it was ideal for sharing. The service was really good, they were very attentive and on hand if we needed anything. The restaurant is super stylish, modern and it has a good ambience. If you are looking for a place in central which has great food, lovely ambience and good service then this is a good place to go. Perfect as well if you're going to the theatre after, as its so close to everything. I would definitely come back to eat here again!!
Absolutely sublime! An unexpected jewel in a city bustling with overpriced fine dining & street level generic chains. Service was very friendly & helpful esp with wine recommendation & the concept of the restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed a unique experience, my parents were beaming from ear to ear with every delight we sampled!
Brilliant food - the flavours were wonderful, very fitting considering the name of the restaurant. I can recommend the deep fried feta with honey and walnuts from the small plates, and the smoked goat from the large plates was fantastic. Oh and don't forget the milk chocolate and caramelised bacon ice-cream - a must try. Oh and their own brew beer was a perfect accompaniment!
Will definitely be returning.
Staff were very friendly, however food didn’t really stand out from an average tapas bar. A bit bland.
Quirky, friendly staff, new what they were talking about, i keep coming back and will come back again very soon through work as well as with the wife
Great concept of taking more traditional dishes and adding a twist. We enjoyed trying as much as our bellies would allow. All the dishes we ordered were tasty. The restaurant is stylish and cool in decor in great location in Soho. The service was a bit slow. We were seated for almost an hour before someone took our order. That didn't bother us too much as we had so much to catch up
