Flesh & Buns was the first restaurant in London dedicated to steamed bao and Japanese drinking food. Expect fluffy steamed buns with gutsy fillings, plus loads more plates to share. This is unusual, yet addictive, Japanese-inspired food served in a Izakaya setting.

AC was a bit high and while having dinner you could smell the cigarette from the people smoking in the door. Not a pleasant smell.

We were lucky to get a table for 8.30 on A staurday night (booked on the day)..Very airy yet atmospheric restaurant. Staff very attentive and smily. Food was outstanding. Good value- came to £50 per head with everyone having 2-3 units of alcohol plus starters (shared one per head) and mains (shared 1.25 per head). Not mad about the buns-rice also good

Lovely atmosphere and the bottomless brunch was nice and more affordable than it’s sister restaurant. Brunch menu wasn’t as varied as hoped and sundries were extra which was a shame. I would go again to try other things on the menu. Staff were friendly and obliging - it was a really nice experience

The food was amazing. We went for the taster menu so we could have a bit of everything. I’m so glad we did. Each course was full of flavour. Especially liked the chilli brisket bao bun and the seafood gnocchi. Pairing that with pisco sours at the touch of a button (made at your table) and two flights of sake we definitely had an amazing evening. Staff were attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend

Over priced for the actual quality of the food. The rolls cannot even be considered rolls! And the sashimi was actually very poor quality. Great location though

I am a regular client at the Covent Garden F&B, which is moderate at its quality of service. I wanted to try the Fitzrovia restaurant for the first time. While having in mind that I might have a bad experience with the service, it was a pleasant surprise that the staff was not only quick, but also friendly.

It is not everyday that you see a restaurant with staff serving you tap water before you even finish drinking it.

The manager there is such an incredible woman, who has staffed and trained the restaurant appropriately, making people have a good experience.

Even though they do not serve the Japanese Fried Chicken (which is the reason i keep going back to the Covent Garden place) I am keen to start being a regular here, as well as tell all my friends about it.

First time here and I didn't know what to expect but I was very surprised. The food was incredible and the staff were excellent and very friendly. If you're looking for a meaty meal but you don't fancy the usual high end steak houses then this is a must.

The food was not to the standard we were expecting. The miso on the aubergine was too sweet and sickly that we could not finish it. The belly pork again was a bit too sweet. The buns were a bit too steamed and kept on getting stuck in our mouths. We also felt the service was a bit too overwhelming as we wanted to be left alone to eat most of the time rather than being interrupted to pick up the odd plate. Overall the food in the Covent Garden branch was of better quality

Nice decor, attentive staff who gave great recommendations and indulged my curiosity, delicious food and drinks. I quite like bone daddy’s sake and it went quite well with the miso chili bbq brisket. The tuna tiraditos were excellent as were the toban prawns and grilled broccoli. The Nutella taiyaki amd cherry blossom soft serve would feed three people … since it was my last night in London I overindulged and loved every minute. Thanks again Flesh & Buns. I always enjoy dining with you and the new admixture of Peruvian inspired dishes in Fitrovia is a great idea.

I took my boyfriend (who is a professional fine dining chef) for his birthday & he said it was the best meal he's ever had. I think that pretty much sums up how great Flesh & Buns is!

We went on a Saturday lunchtime and had the tasting menu. The food comes out when it's ready, but at such an incredibly steady pace that you basically are non stop eating incredibly comfortably.

Each course was fresh & not too heavy (except for the gnocchi, but it was so moreish, I didn't even care!). The buns as well were absolutely divine.

I must mention the service, too. Whenever we had a question about what was on the plate (and believe me, my partner wants to know everything..!) the staff were incredibly knowledgeable & were even able to tell us some fun extra bits about how things were made. This really adds to the experience as they're very innovative in how they construct the dishes.

One last thing - the glasses! So many really cool glasses that they've imported from Japan - I drank a mocktail from a ceramic fish, for instance; really fun!

Basically, I would absolutely come back again & would highly recommend anyone to go there.

Incredible food. Highly recommend the chips and dip to start, also the miso grilled aubergine bun! We followed that with 3 puddings to share which I can't stop thinking about: the nutella croissant, kinako doughnuts and S'more....YUM!
Fab service, great atmosphere - the perfect lunch.
