Fonda - East Village
Service was very slow, had to wait a long time for drinks. Drinks we’re disappointing, Margaritas were watery and tacos dry. Waiters were very friendly and I enjoyed atmosphere however just did not make up for food and drinks.
I had been wanting to do brunch at Fonda for quite some time and I must say it was very good. The food was authentic and delicious. The Rosalina was amazing. I guess because brunch is so busy they couldn’t really check on you often. I had thought they forgot about my guacamole order because it took long. I ordered it as an appetizer and got it along with my food and everything barely fit on table. Other than that everything else was great. Food ✔️ drinks✔️ people ✔️
Delicious food - the best
A little too loud though - had to almost shout to talk
Excellent service, good recommendations, tasty food and great drinks for our brunch on Saturday. Muchas gracias!
We had a great meal. We sat outside with our dog and everyone was really nice. The guac was especially delicious
The good is always stellar. The Sopa de Tortilla is outstanding. The Cadillac Margarita is great. I had the guacamole for the first time and it was perfectly flavoured.
The only reason I didn’t rate the food five stars was that I was served a chicken dish that was not good at all. This is the first time that has ever happened and we my waiter noted I hadn’t eaten very much he quickly said they would take it off my bill which they did.
I highly recommend.
Food and drink were really incredible. Restaurant week deal was amazing.
Food was good, the place is chill and the staff is just incredible, our waiter and the hostess were super attentive.
Great food ... good drinks ... absolutely will be back
The food and attentiveness by the servers was top notch. Would definitely highly recommend and come through again, especially for their dessert and starters.
Great customer service and great brunch drinks.
I'm not familiar with Mexican food but I've tried what I thought was good, and I was pretty satisfied, I've been to this location 3 times.
Food was dry, over cooked, tasteless, not authentic
Way overpriced for Mexican food
Best dish was chips and guacamole (need to ask for fresh cooked chips) should have stopped there
Much better options of Mexican food in east village and LES
Very disappointed overall
Great traditional Mexican spot.
As always, one of my favorite places for celebrating special occasions with amazing Mexican food. I have left several other reviews here so I will just add that the quality of the food and the service continues to be excellent, and we are happy to attest that increasing popularity has not affected the experience!
Every time my husband and I come here we say to each other, why don’t we come here more often? The food is wonderful and consistent, atmosphere relaxed but upbeat at the same time, great service, great drinks and quality ingredients.
Guacamole too expensive but otherwise great experience and friendly, responsive service. Blood orange margarita was delicious
Guacamole is amazing
The food wasn’t good, the service was horrible, the whole experience was super disorganized. The waiter was dropping things onto us and more than once did a waiter bring us guacamole and chips only to immediately take it away because it wasn’t for our table. I’ve been at the Fonda in Chelsea and had a better experience but I won’t be back here again. It’s not run well at all.
Great attitude and great food. We sat outside which was lovely and quiet - inside seems a bit louder but also very fun and lots of buzz. Our waiter was excellent and did not forget about us even when it rained outside!
I choose Fonda for it's location near a film festival we were attending and was glad I did. First of all our drinks were exactly how we asked for them to be made. We like a very tart margarita, nothing sweet, adding some seltzer. Usually bartenders can't resist and add something sweet. This one at Fonda was perfect. The seating was great, hightop with a bar to rest your feet. The waiters listened at every point, we really liked the Duck appetizer, the guac was delish and the pork taquitos were yummy. The habanero beef tostada was a bit dull so one out of three dishes was mediocre the rest we would re-order.
Would have been perfect if the music was turned down a notch or two.
I go to the park slope fonda a lot, the east village fonda staff was rather rude. The music was extremely loud for 3pm on a Saturday. The staff left the a table alone for long periods despite the restaurant not being crowded. The food was wonderful as always but the ambiance and the service was lacking.
The food is ok but a bit pricy I found for what it is
My go to Mexican place LOVEEEE
Food wonderfully fresh and, speaking as a cook, prepared by someone who cooks like they really care what goes on the plate. Absolutely first class all the way. Ditto the cocktails – on target, no skimping on the booze – and some imaginative, fresh originals – great. Friendly service feels like family. The space is immaculately clean and looks like it was decorated yesterday – deceptively simple but relaxing and energizing at the same time. A great time all round. Yay!
Great food, atmosphere, and service. Will definitely be returning.
I personally think this is the best Mexican in the East Village and that includes the two on my block; fresh, unique, and inventive handling of traditional Mexican. Guacamole is made when you order it. Don't get fresher than that. Fish tacos also great.
Very good food and drinks. The ambiance is cheerful and nice for summer. However, the rude and unprofessional hostess greatly detracted from our experience
We went there on a Tuesday night before a STOMP show. It was not very busy, we could choose our table. The service was outstanding, our waiters were super friendly and patient, they helped us choose the right dishes for each of us 4. Delicious food! Cocktails very good too. Will definitely come back :)
Have eaten at this restaurant’s place in Brooklyn and food as good as ever. This restaurant is a bit bigger than Brooklyn’s-both have backyards but I’m referring to indoor seating- making the experience a bit more enjoyable.
Great food and margaritas. The servers were really nice and gave great recs. Good vibe too. A little pricey, though.
This place is fantastic -- we went on Cinco de Mayo, but unlike other Mexican restaurants on this day, the service was good and the food was even better. Had delicious specials, which we ordered, but you could also order from the regular menu. And the margaritas were great -- lots of choices, so we had to try a few different kinds. Highly recommended -- we will definitely be back!
I realize there’s a time limit but after spending close to $400 and because we were standing waiting for one of our party to get out of the bathroom I felt uncomfortable and unappreciated being asked to leave. We were obviously getting ready to leave it’s not like there was anywhere to stand and wait it was pouring outside. We did get our table about 15 minutes late. Not a big deal. In addition I thought I saw stated that a gratuity will be automatically added if your party was of six or more. Out gratuity was added for our party of five. I would have tipped more generously had this not be done And I felt it offensive. For this reason I felt a little put off. However our server Brenda was good Considering it was so busy.
Excellent authentic Mexican food. Mole, carnitas and the Duck zarape are a must. Service kind and attentive, Mexican hospitality at its best.
I like Fonda in Chelsea but Fonda in the East Village feels more like a bar atmosphere. It's pretty dark inside. We went for brunch but even that is geared toward the bottomless drinks crowd. If you want a simple, nice brunch with coffee and sunlight and not an hour and a half of endless drinking, go elsewhere.
The atmosphere is warm...the bar is lively. The margaritas were popular. I had the mexican white & it was good.
We had a table close to the bar, which was perfect. Everyone really enjoyed their food. We did end up ordering too much. Generally speaking you should share some appetizers & maybe the mains too particularly if you are not big eaters.
Will go back.
We went there to celebrate my daughter's college acceptance. The food was creative and delicious. The service was delightful and we really enjoyed our dinner there.
Excellent food and service, authentic Mexican cuisine and great atmosphere
Great cocktails. If you like spicy go for the blood orange!
One of the best bottomless brunches in the city. Great food, strong drinks and perfect service!
