Forage & Chatter
Lovely meal. The various small rooms that make up the restaurant keep the noise level down. The food presentation was lovely. Would highly recommend for an evening out.
It was my 50th birthday and this wasn’t mentioned although had been specified at booking. Set menu wasn’t available on a Saturday but this was not made clear on the website. Portion sizes were small and we are not big eaters. Food was good and cooked well. A lot of thought had gone into the menu just a pity there wasn’t a little more of it. Waiters could have recommended side dishes.
Finally made it here for lunch after having to rearrange our initial booking. Restaurant is in a lovely setting that works well with the ethos of the place. I had the pigeon breast for starter followed by the lamb. Both pieces of meat were expertly cooked and the accompaniments were a perfect match. Will definately be back.
Never fails to please from the yummy ‘dough ball’ served with whipped butter and pesto to the unusual and interesting menu. Today I lunched with my Dundee cousin who was very impressed with the set lunch. I had a cold asparagus gazpacho with slow cooked egg which was very different to the usual lunch fare and had real depth of flavour. The chicken terrine was delicious too. We both had pigeon with curry - fabulous! No sweet but enjoyed a leisurely bottle of Shiraz over our equally leisurely lunch. Always enjoy F & C and it’s great value for really good quality dining. Thoroughly recommend - I’ll be back!
Lovely lovely food and very nice staff. One of the finest restaurants in Edinburgh, would be my first choice every time.
Best meal I've had in Edinburgh. Just Fantastic. The food was fresh, cooked perfectly and the deserts were divine.
What do you do about someone at the next table who seems incapable of speaking quietly? I relented to my companion who thought that asking said person to shut up was not a good idea ... Altogether a pity, as it detracted from what would otherwise have been a very pleasant meal. Good food, affordable wines and very good and cheerful service. I thought that the decor didn't quite fit with the elegance of the food. Don't go there if you seek big portions. Perhaps a little on the expensive side.
Brilliant all round. We loved it.
Bit pricey for the portion sizes at dinner. Much better value as a lunch venue
Absolutely fantastic food! Very clever, seasonal and delicious. Attentive service. Can't wait to go back.
This is a hidden gem of a restaurant.
We have visited on many occasions and never been disappointed.
It’s a very well run establishment and is deserving of the accolades it receives.
Very tasty and inventive. Excellent service. Loved it. Would definitely go again
Everything was exceptional. The setting the service the presentation and quality of the food was just exquisite. Didn’t want to leave as it aaa just so good.
Great meal. Inventive food but not pretentious. Good price for quality. Unfortunately, the restaurant had been flooded by flats above on the night and the room was rather warm because I don't think they could turn on their air conditioning. It was a great effort for them to actually open that night although the waiting staff seemed a bit stressed!
Very understandable and I'm sure the room is usually cooler. Will definitely be going back.
Great experience, excellent and creative local food and an exceptional service! We loved it.
The restaurant only took cash on the evening I visited
Parts of the restaurant have lovely seating and great ambience
I was seated at the back of the restaurant which was either humid or cold and draughty depending on the aircon
Service was not attentive
Food excellent however with fresh local produce
A lovely space to be in with delightful staff who got everything just right. We both opted for a halibut main course which was fine, but slightly underwhelming in taste (our expectations had been very high). Desserts were delicious.
We were disappointed that, having given several weeks notice of a request for one diner to have gluten free, the chef had made no provision for any selection from the dessert menu. My partner got a small selection of gf items that were found on the night in the kitchen, for which we were charged the full dessert cost.
I took mum mum for a birthday meal here and we had an amazing meal. Incredible local ingredients perfectly handles by their chef.
I had pigeon breast to start and halibut for my main. Both delicious.
Would definitely recommend.
Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis war nicht so gut beim Hauptgericht. Sehr kleine Portion für den Preis. Vor- und Nachdpeise sehr gut! Personal sehr freundlich und aufmerksam! Schönes Ambiente!
Brilliantly cooked food in a lovely setting. Not to be missed!
Excellent value set lunch menu. Beautifully presented tasty food.
utterly delicious food, lovely atmpshere and perfect service.
all the right ingredients for a wonderful evening.
Great service in a warm, friendly environment. Nicely thought-out food, with a nice blend of textures and flavour layers.
Great food although the service was very underwhelming
Good food great company. Service slow, payment could not be made at the table overall good
Creative food with topnotch ingredients in lovely environment but small portions for high cost.
Lovely birthday dinner, great service, fantastic food
We return to Edinburgh every 3 or 4 months and this is a must go restaurant for us. The food and service are fantastic and it is a great atmosphere. When you want to sit and talk it is quiet and the staff always are attentive.
If can be paid by card it would be perfect. Had to run into rain to get cash...
Otherwise it was a good meal.
They served some of the most delicious food Ive ever eaten. Very friendly/high standard of service, too. The dessert was the highlight of the day. Booking is a must! @ Forage & Chatter
We arrived to a warm welcome and were shown to our table. Lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. All the staff were very attentive and took care of our every need. We will definitely return.
Very friendly staff, nice restaurant and outstanding food!
I am reluctant to recommend Forage and Chatter.... as I think it is perfect as it is! Perhaps if it becomes more popular then things might change?
In all seriousness this was probably the best (quality or value) lunch I've had in Edinburgh.
p.s. The service staff are amazing
Very unusual ‘below stairs’ venue and quirky little rooms. Great service and delicious food. In particular the stone bass starter with strawberries, radish and apricot was superb.
Food was of an extremely high standard. Very delicate flavours and beautifully presented. Service was excellent, low key and attentive. Definitely recommend and have already done so!
Forage & Chatter is a wonderful small restaurant in a Georgian building. The staff were very attentive and knew all of the menu items in detail. All food items are locally sourced and prepared to perfection. Would highly recommend for dinner
An excellent restaurant in a very convenient location. With interesting and well cooked food and superb service partaken in a cosy atmosphere, the evening was most enjoyable. The only minor snag on this particular occasion was a rather loud party at a nearby table.
Dinner for 3 of us. We all enjoyed starters and main courses. Beautifully presented and amazing textures and flavours. Would definitely go back.
