Charming place with good food, reasonably priced and lovely a atmosphere. Service was excellent, and the place is very dogfriendly. The staff provided our dog with his own bowl of water and even gave him a little dog biscuit. Highly recommend!
Amazing as always!!! Great food; great service. Couldn’t recommend enough!!!
Service was terrible. Music was too upbeat for a small Italian restaurant. I expected nice Italian music not club music. Was charged £10 service charge but only saw the waiter twice
Very slow service but understand shortage of staff this evening and inexperienced behind bar
My husband and I must have passed Forty Dean Street countless times but had never bothered to see what was on offer — and what an oversight that was!
Looking for somewhere new for lunch in central London, and having previously discovered a couple of excellent Italian restaurants through OpenTable, we decided to see if we could make it a hat-trick.
As soon as we stepped inside things were looking good. Forty Dean Street is a family run bistro with eclectic by cosy decor and which clearly has a clientele of regulars.
The set lunch offered some fabulous option and great value — and got my husband's vote. His starter of mussels and delicious pasta — orecchiette with Italian sausage, broccoli and tomatoes were both superb. I went a la carte, tempted by the goats cheese and beetroot arancini, which was utterly delicious. It's a classic and favourite combination, but I have never seen it in an arancini before. The balance between the tangy cheese and sweet beetroot was perfection.
Slow cooked pork belly to follow, complete with crackling with a satisfying crunch completed the clean sweet of delicious dishes.
The serves are generous, so we had no room left for puddings.
The wine we selected was out of stock, but our waiter's suggested alternative was not only excellent, it was slightly cheaper, too.
As we enjoyed the last of our wine, we were already planning a return visit.
Amazing romantic feel and excellent level of service, was well worth the price and had some of the best Italian food I’ve eaten for a while. Ended up with 2 free desserts because of a supplier issue changing some of our dishes from what was described on the menu but this didn’t detract from the beautiful quality of food and attention to detail in service.
A small but elegant place with great atmosphere and good food. The service was great too.
A lovely place to catch a moment away from the bustle of Soho.
A beautiful little restaurant in the heart of soho. 3rd visit and each have been top notch. Highly recommend!
Love this dog friendly restaurant in the middle of town. Me and my pup were made to feel very welcome.
Beautiful place and beautiful food!
A fabulous dinner in a stylish and welcoming restaurant. And a little bit fancy with the crystal glassware! Delish food from the charcuterie board for entree, main of steak, lasagne and squid ink pasta, right through to the moorish desserts. Would highly recommend.
Great welcome and lovely staff. Delicious and fresh homemade pasta, wonderful aubergine starter, best pannacotta I’ve had in a long time. Book as they were having to turn people away even early on!
Great food and service!! It's also pet friendly!!!
We visited 40 Dean street for my birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, the food was amazing, and every plate went back to the kitchen empty, the cocktails are also delicious. Could not recommend visiting enough, we will be going back there again soon.
Starters were nice, the mains were a bit disappointing. We waited one hour for the mains and after complaining the chef came out and they dealt with it very nicely. We got he deserts for free which was nice but the food wasn’t great.
The good was excellent and the service prompt and polite. The only downside was that we were practically the only customers there which is always a bit offputting.
However I would go again!
Really disappointed with the service and food here after reading prior reviews. The Aperol Spritz was flat and also did not have the right measurements of alcohol. The croquettes tasted liked they had been sitting there for days and were tasteless. The pasta was undercooked and chewy.
Tasty food at a great price. Great selection of food on the menu. I had the beetroot Arancini as a starter which was delightful. And for my main I had the fish (I think it was sea bass) with seafood which was even more delightful!
Great service, the waitress was very attentive and friendly!
Prices are also very reasonable.
Very average food. Small portions and just not very tasty. Disappointing.
Food was delicious!! A bit disappointing that they had run out of the wine we wanted and one of the pasta dishes too but the chef came out to apologize and served us an extra entree on the house for the inconveniences.
This is a nice and homely restaurant in the heart of Soho. Great value and very friendly.
Took friends for a pre-theatre dinner. Book, they were turning non booked customers away at 18.00 on a Wednesday. Prompt friendly service, well priced varied menu, we were through two courses by 19.15 so it all worked well. I enjoyed melon and risotto, the spaghetti clams were also a hit. Quite noisy, but that is inevitable at this time and in this location.
Amazing Italian food as always, sooooo tasty
Went for my birthday dinner with my girlfriend and everything was great. Food was nearly perfect - both my gf's ravioli and my sea bass (so soft and rich in flavor) were amazing, not to mention very good arancini and decent pistachio tiramisu (dessert was probably the only little letdown of the night, but only because the bar was set very high by the main courses). Service was very friendly and attentive, yet not overwhelming. A rather dark, very cozy place, with fine and authentic decor. Pleasant, not too loud 80s music made us watch Miami Vice after getting back home. Would definitely recommend for a date or small dinner with friends or family.
had the set menu for 4 people fantastic little restaurant near the theatre, lovely food, lovely waiters and lovely price thank you would highly recommend unfortunately we had to rush out at the end as our show was starting otherwise would have stayed longer
He food was ok.
Oysters too watery and salty
Sea-bass was very good but the pasta was to creamy
Not organic wines on the menu
A little gem 💖 I look forward to returning a.s.a.p.
Overall we enjoyed it and would go back. Only disappointment was the inclusion of a service charge (despite it being stated as optional on the menu). This is a real bugbear for me and without exception I will ask any restaurant to remove it and re-present the bill. I have no problem with tipping as I think fit which is usually more than is often reflected by those serving actually warrant but that is my choice. If it’s going to be added automatically then put the menu prices up. Normally staff do not object but there was some resistance in this instance although it was done politely. However, as this usually occurs just before you leave the restaurant it is this dialogue that stays in the mind and subtracts somewhat from than the overall experience that was very positive.
Very good food and attentive staff. The garlic bread with mozzarella was great, as was the pasta. Would definitely come back whenever to London again!
Great fast service with lovely food and friendly staff. Great location for a pre theatre meal. Food and drink served quickly even though it was a busy Saturday evening.
Forty Dean Street is fabulous, we went as a party of 6 for a birthday and had a great meal. The service was incredible, all the staff were friendly and fun. Would definitely go back!
Buzzy restaurant in heart of Soho. Great food and staff very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back. Thank you!
Poor service & average food. Waitress was very rude when I pointed out black & white “bits” floating in a glass of wine. We were sitting outside & she suggested the bits had “fallen from above”! & seemed disgusted I wanted it changed. Overall service was slow. Food disappointing- especially for the cost! Wouldn’t go back.
We had the set menu which is excellent value but limited choice and when I have previously eaten a la Carter I have enjoyed it much more. We went at lunch but I recommend going in the evening for better buzz, that said we had a lovely table and enjoyed the music
We had lunch on Saturday 3rd August and there were six of us dining and our dog Basil. We all received a lovely welcome and they brought a bowl of water for Basil and some treats 😊.
We all had wonderful starters, mains and desserts and the wine was very tasty, we will definitely be returning as this is an amazing restaurant.
Great food in a lovely atmosphere - very well priced for great quality food.
The service was shocking. If they carry on like this normally they won’t be in business for long.
Dear Karen, I'm so sorry you didn't have a good experience. I would love to discuss this further with you, please contact me on email@example.com m Many thanks
Great service, and very nice food make this our favourite Soho restaurant.
Amazing delicious food!
One of those restaurant where you can create special moments in life. Great food, atmosphere, service and a top aperol spritz
