American
Founding Farmers, the Greenest Restaurant in DC, is owned by the more than 47,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch. While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values. We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty. The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Took 25min to get the bill when the place was empty; probably because ALL the waiters were in the back tables eating instead of taking care of customers.

My friend and I shared the beignets, and they were wonderfully warm and the sauces that came with them were lovely. I had the vegetable scramble with the hashbrowns. The scramble was pretty good, but the hashbrowns were a standout. The service was great and our food came out quickly, especially with how busy they were. The only negative we encountered was a 20-25 minute wait even with a reservation, and an incredibly crowded waiting area.

Phenomenal food and drinks! The bread with the Brie was the best thing I ate my whole time in DC

Delicious food. Service is what you would expect from a place that makes everything from scratch. Had two picky eaters and they cleaned their plates. Decent gluten free options - had a burger with no bun and it was amazing. The sweet potato is unreal and is like a dessert by itself!

The food was excellent. The corn bread is delicious. The restaurant was really busy and doesn’t have the waiting capacity for the volume. The tables are also really close together. We were seated at a two top and may as well have been sitting with the four top next to us.
I’m not sure “over-capacity” is a good problem to have.
Also, would suggest the servers write down the orders, part of my order was left off due to the server forgetting to order from memory...

Nice atmosphere, however, everyone’s food was cold, it took 35 minutes to receive our meals, one would have expectations of HOT FOOD!

I plan on returning to Founding Farmers. They provided a pleasant dining experience, food was very good, and service was satisfactory. It is a very popular and busy restaurant so it is best to go in expecting to take it easy and not be in a rush.

Food was DELICIOUS. Definitely make a reservation days in advance. We arrived about 15 before the reservation time and they sat us early. The ambiance was great and the service was friendly. My only vice was that they would not substitute the vanilla creme French in the breakfast combo. Otherwise, brunch was great. I will continue to take my friends here when the visit DC

The food and service are outstanding! Very tasty dishes, very nice servers. The prices are little on the upscale but it is DC. I ordered a FF Mule but it is a tall glass full of crushed ice which means just a few sips and then you have a glass full of ice. That is disappointing. Also, sundays for brunch are very VERY busy so it's pretty loud. With all that said, I would go again and recommend because the food is good and the service is welcoming.

As always the food was delicious and our server was a delight. I highly recommend Sunday Brunch. Make sure to have Uncle Buck’s Beignets. They are slice of heaven!

My mom and I were very excited about Founding Farmers based upon the menu, but found the experience pretty lackluster. The food was edible, but certainly not worth the price. It fell short of well-executed- the food was warm, but had clearly been sitting out for awhile. The gravy on my chicken fried steak had congealed. My mom’s catfish was overly salted but otherwise not well-seasoned. Our waiter seemed aloof, and at one point forgot to bring our cocktails to the table. I would like to try them on a night when they’re not incredibly busy, because I feel like there is some potential there, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again

Waited a long time despite reservation, and hostess basically lied to us about the wait. "Give me a minute to get you a table." turned into 1.5 hour wait. Food was OK, but not worth that length.

Simple menu and nice drinks. We tried the fig bread first and the roasted tomato soup all good. The Steak frites was what we enjoyed. Green bean on the side were fresh and a nice side. My daughter tried the rice/risotto and she liked that very much. Interesting place to try with fresh and farm connections.

Great food no matter what you order. Just wish they had kids dishes or even regular dishes in smaller portions.

This was our third Founding Farmers dinner - we've already been to the Tyson's Corner and Reston locations. The DC location does not disappoint (except they don't offer the wonderful Jefferson Doughnuts you can get only at Tyson's apparently). I would definitely recommend ANY of the Founding Farmers locations!

The food was great. The service was wonderful! Made us feel right at home, gave suggestions and actually let us take our time, we weren’t rushed out. The portions were fantastic, so I felt the value was there because they weren't small; they were large enough portions for leftovers. It was a bit loud, that’d be my only complaint, but I would definitely come again and have recommended it to many since my visit.

Very crowded at the entrance, arrived for reservation and we were told there was a bit of a wait. Told staff we would wait outside due to the congestion inside, she said that was fine and she’d make note of it. Came back in after about 10 min since it had cleared out some and heard name called. This different employee (tall lady with long straight hair) rudely said “I’ve called your name 4 times!”. I told her we told the lady at the front we’d be outside.
So obnoxious, the food is mediocre for the shitshow front staff service. She was rude, obviously not happy to be working. Never will go here again and will not recommend it for basic food

Hi EricM: Oh no. I am so very sorry for the poor impression we left you with!! I am saddened to know we started your visit off on the wrong foot, and unfortunately this also compromised the enjoyment of your meal. :( With this said, I would love the chance to follow up to turn this around and will send you a personal note with my email address. -Amy

Horrible service. Had to ask the server multiple times for things and they served one person at our table her food (but not her drink) and the rest of us waited for ours for easily another 20 minutes. They attempted to give the table a complimentary dessert to make amends for the horrible service but then added it to our bill. It was very crowded and loud but I guess that’s what I get for booking them for lunch on a Saturday.

Went to breakfast with my boyfriend and was left disappointed. My eggs had no flavor, the hash browns were way too greasy and my English muffin was stale. I’m not sure what they hype is regarding this place because the food was mediocre.

The food was delicious! Can’t wait for the next time we eat here. Also, I accidentally made our morning reservation for 930pm...the staff still worked to immediately seat us. They were tremendous! Can’t recommend this place enough.

Popular DC restaurant and we went for breakfast, since it's one of the few non-hotel full-service breakfast places in Foggy Bottom. Food was good, although the smoked salmon was a bit too salty. Excellent service, and coffee was good. Would recommend for taking guests.

We found the restaurant searching on yelp. Our party of 6 included state agency personnel so budget was important. FF was reasonable priced with outstanding service and the food was absolutely amazing. From the ice tea to chicken and waffles and the specialty drinks. We need to return just to sample the other menu items. The breads we had for an appetizer to were to die for. Hope they do not get so busy you cannot get in!!!!!
