Scott Hallsworth was head chef of Nobu in Park Lane, London for six years. He opened Nobu Melbourne in his native Australia before returning to London to create Kurobuta, the Japanese Izakaya.
Freak Scene is Scott's new restaurant. We hope you like it.
Great food, crab wontons & duck curry both fantastic.
Second time I go there and every time I end up leaving super happy and super full. Amazing food, great atmosphere and nice deco.
Service is a bit slow, but not enough to change my review.
Food was so good, we proposed to the chef (he politely declined). Highly recommend this place. Great for a Friday night catch up with friends.
Simply outstanding- every dish was the most delicious assault on the taste buds and each was very different. I'm not a fan of chunky chips, but these were crispy, creamy and potato tasting served with a great yuzi dip. The aubergines melted in the mouth, as did the scallops. The chicken and the pork belly were crispy skinned and the meat was succulent. We were persuaded to try the cabbage (not a likely success- we both went to public schools), but it was stunning and we polished it off with undue haste. With each of the dishes there was wonderful sauce/jus/dip, etc that perfectly complemented the main ingredient and by itself left you trying to work out what went into it. Even the Freak Scene IPA, brewed to enhance the flavours of their dishes, did exactly that.
Scott and his team looked after us perfectly- we will definitely be going back, and soon!
Very enjoyable Saturday lunch . Delightful Avocado and crab , salmon, pork belly and more , friendly and attentive service . We loved it .
Great food and vibes, original and fun place
Food was epic. All the food was amazing but the standout was the beef tataki - delicious.
The food was good but not outstanding. The restaurant is very loud with rock, punk, and alternative greats blasting throughout. Service was extremely attentive and fun to interactive with. All-in a fun restaurant, but if you're a serious foodie, it's unlikely to make your top 10.
My third visit here and it still proves to be a popular destination. The restaurant was packed and the noise level was high but it created a good buzz about the place. The food was delicious with only one dish falling below outstanding (this was a brand new dish and may need a bit of tweaking). We ate crab wontons, hot tuna, chicken with peanut sauce, garlic baked mushrooms, red shrimp (a bit bitter because of the char) and pointed cabbage which was the dish of the night. Staff were stretched but cheery and helpful. Could have done with our plates being changed frequently between dishes to stop flavours being muddled but this is only a tiny gripe. A brilliant restaurant and divine food. 😋
The ambiance and music is great, suits the relaxed vibe and open kitchen style. The food is RIDICULOUS - the beef, pork, scallops... you name it. Proper eye closing sensual experience, and on top of all that you the waiters and even chefs are so friendly and helpful at talking you through the menu and what they're making and how. Will be coming back again and again.
Tasty inventive food served at a counter. The chef and staff are very friendly and the cocktails are delicious!
Great find, very interesting, creative and tasty food! Nice decor and friendly chef (Alberto) made our evening.
They were a bit short on staff when we went, so service and attentiveness were a bit lacking, but overall we had a good time. Most of the portions are quite small.
They is only bar/stool seating so fine for smallish groups. We booked a table but had to wait quite a long time to be seated.
The waitstaff was completely inattentive and I had to ask for a basic cocktail 4 times (while sat at the bar) and still never received it. Though they tried to place it on the bill, they were willing to remove the charge.
Fun, good food and good ambience. Love the salmon sashimi "pizzas" and the chilli crab wonton and cabbage dishes. Would go back for a quick bite. Small drawback that service was a bit slow when busy though
Love this place. Keep on coming back and bringing friends over.
Great small plate, counter restaurant. Staff make a genuine effort to make sure you’re comfortable. Maitre d’ is very good at his job. Food is all really interesting and tasty, with a focus on quality ingredients. Overall perfect place for two; layout means that I can’t imagine that it would accommodate groups well.
Small busy restaurant with the most amazing food and really friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
One of the best meals I’ve had in London! 👌Well cooked, presented and enjoyable!
Bringing all my friends to this place - just amazing and the owners are the friendliest, kindest people. Keep it up guys! It's a pleasure to spend my money there :o)
Service from behind the counter was slow, we had to keep calling the waitress rather than her checking on us. Food was great quality but very small portions, disappointing for the expensive prices. Beer was expensive (£5 for a schooner, 2/3 pint) and not particularly good.
Great food and and ambience! Loved the black cod tacos and the cauliflower!
Tuesday night was a bit quiet. Food was amazing though!
Excellent cocktails. Good food. Not cheap but great value for money. Brunch bento is fun. Sashimi pizza and the crumpets side order are the best.
Great food, enjoyed every dish. Reasonable prices, service ok, would drop in again if I was in the neighbourhood.
Great place for a couples dinner, only bar seating so not great for large groups. Food was exceptional and service was brilliant. Different and varied menu is great for trying lots of different dishes and ideal if you like sharing with your partner.
Explosive experience. Everything amazing. You should try
Delicious food but lost the intimate charm the pop up had.
The food was nice enough but the hot air constantly blowing on me from the hot air vent made my visit very uncomfortable. My clothes also smelled like greasy food after leaving - I wonder if there was a problem with the air con and extraction system.
The staff and especially the manager were extremely accomodating to our nut allergy. Each mouthful of the food was sooo tasty! Our favourite was the black cod and the beef tataki! Highly recommend trying this place.
Briiliant atmosphere, great food, excellent music, friendly and helpful service. Really good value for money. Go!
The manager tried picking up the slack which was kind however the service was horrible. The restaurant advertises ex Nobu chef appeal - they were a far cry from anywhere close to quality, knowledge, presentation and service. Food was ok but considering it took several reminders and an order mess up, I will not be returning.
Cuisine is best characterised as “junk food”. Street food is an inappropriate term as it can sometimes include healthier options and this menu did not. Don’t have an issue with unhealthy, fried, fatty food as long as it is really tasty. Sadly only about half the dishes achieve this and we did try many of them. You do also get fried food overload if you try to have a proper meal there. I guess it is different if you just go for drinks and a few nibbles. But then again there are many places with better ambience for that. Service looks bored and only pretends to be excited when they describe how innovative the dishes are (“our eggplant dish actually includes candied walnuts. How amazing is that?”).
Great experience, have been before and will be back. I wouldn’t normally say this but the roasted cauliflower is a definite favourite!
New favourite restaurant!!! AMAZING food, loved it. Not for groups but ideal for date night. Cool vibe. Food is absolutely delicious. I think the salmon ‘pizza’ was the best thing i’ve ever eaten! Will be back.
Food was fantastic. The vibe was amazing and the service can not be faulted. Probably the most reasonable, most value for money Japanese I’ve been to in London. The staff are a real selling point too!
Great flavours. Relaxed feel. Quick service. Very good
Really good, interesting food. Service could be a bit better - we waited quite a long time between plates and they seemed to forget what we had ordered. I’d still recommend though as the food is great.
Such a great place with amazing flavours. Sitting at the counter is great as you get to watch some of the food being prepared. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff. Cod taco was unbelievable. Had to order it twice.
Good overall but not as good as the reviews suggest as food became a little same sane after a while. Favourites were the crab bomb and the lamb chops which we asked them to cook a bit more and were then sublime...
Visited Freak Scene for lunch. Food was AMAZING! Every dish was faultless and sooo tasty! Would like to return for dinner as feel like the vibe would be a little more lively (there was only one other group in the restaurant at the lunch service).
