I sincerely love Freakscene! I was a bit worried when I turned up and peered through the window as it looks really casual, but it’s a pop up and they’ve done a brilliant job of adapting the space. The food was really surprising - inventive, delicious, full of taste and creativity. The service was bright, fun and friendly. It’s not the place to go for a date (or maybe it is!) as it’s messy eating, and you do have to wait a while for a drink - but I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. It’s the most fun I’ve had for ages! And a meal I will definitely go back for. They’re opening a permanent lace soon in Soho, which I have no doubt will become massively popular! Great music too.
Excellent food but crushed stool seating and primitive environment make more suitable for young people.
Felt a bit overpriced for what it was. Atmosphere okay but not the most comfortable. Service was lovely. Food was great
The food is sensational. However, the service borderline negates all that. The skeleton staff, whilst friendly, can’t handle the restaurant when full. After we’d eaten, it was as if they’d entirely forgotten about us - it took over half an hour to get acknowledgement of a drinks order, which we subsequently cancelled, then left. The food (especially the black cod tacos) was amazing, but we won’t be going back.
Had a hiccup to start with as despite a table booked we were seated at bar stools at the front window - not great trying to chat and share plates amongst 4. We were eventually moved when a table became free later. Service was a little haphazard, drinks list pricey but the food was spot on. Great flavours and combinations - all delicious!
I booked Freak Scene for my partner's birthday. We had a table of 9, which is large for any restaurant. The staff were phenomenal, helping us choose the right menu and drinks. And the food was absolutely phenomenal. It was so tasty - sweet and spicy - and it came out quickly. Everyone who came commented about how much they loved the place. I would absolutely recommend Freak Scene! Thank you for such a fantastic night.
Great little place with tasty food, perfect for midweek lunch
Great find! This pop up is totally worth it! Reputed chef, low key environment and exotic food - A must!
As a fan of Kurobuta and then hearing the background story of what happened to Scott (ex owner of Kurobuta) I thought I would try this place out, plus Scott would be doing the cooking.
I was not disappointed at all, the food is really good (as expected) and creative some of the items I had, I've never seen on a menu before, but I'm glad I have now. Its a very causal place, and very chilled so if your after a relaxing night with your mates and some good food then go.
I'm under the impression that the menu changes, as some of the dishes on the menu weren't on the menu when we got there.
I like food, drinks, and relaxing so 10/10 from me.
Came here with clients for lunch - great food and great service!
Great food and wonderful welcome. Highly recommended
Very good food and great service. However very basic furniture and not a place to linger. Great for a quick bite but too expensive for the quality of the surroundings. Also should have limited lunch menu at a fixed price may attract more diners at lunchtime.
Small pop up restaurant, cozy, good variety on the menu, very easygoing welcoming staff.
service was a little slow, but not painfully slow.
menu offered a few original dishes and a few old good ones
great experience overall
Exquisite flavours. Wonderful meal. If they’re still there in 2018, go!
This wasn't a cheap eat out and certainly isn't your typical Asian street food 'quick bite'... This is top notch Asian fusion squeezed into a tiny little pop up restaurant.
Each 'course' (we ordered everything on the comparatively small menu) was a delight to eat and each was unique (I've eaten in more than my fair share of Asian restaurants and I can't recall ever eating anything similar).
If I was to leverage any criticism it wood be the beer, Tiger is a bit lame and the only choice. Asahi, Kirin, Singha... Even Tsing Tao - plenty of readily available and better tasting alternatives.
When the food is this good though, you can forgive.
Delicious skilfully put together food. Delicious flavours. A bit expensive but I'm sure the location and labour explains it.
Food was amazing and great ambience, and the staff were great - really helpful and knew the menus so could help you choose. Only down side was the smell in my clothes / coat on leaving the restaurant
Love this place! An interesting and small selection of Asian-based dishes that are cooked in front of you in an open kitchen. The service was friendly and efficient – everything you want on a night out with friends.
Every dish was amazing!
Great pop up concept, closes on December 30th 2017 so get there quick. Will be keeping an eye out for where they pop up again in 2018.
Dinner with an Australian friend the other night, usually we find something "regular" on Open Table, but I just fancied something off the wall for a total change. Freak Scene fitted the bill perfectly. Food is absolutely standout and we tried all bar one of the dishes on the menu, there wasn't a dud one there. We sat at the counter and so could watch the preparation of all the dishes; it was absolutely fascinating. It is scheduled to close at the end of December, but I really hope it "pops-up" again somewhere closer to my home.
A lively night with exceptional food in a comfortable setting, we were lucky to sit at the bar and able to watch Scott prepping all the plates.
Stunning food, lip smacking flavours. Dish after dish was better than the previous just when you thought it was possible!
The food was absolutely amazing. Good combinations, with a "tacos / wrap" theme behind several dishes. They were well balanced in flavors and each single ingredient worked with the others in order to give a greater final taste to the combination. Service was friendly.
I found the location a bit noisy, as the room is very small. For the same reason, and probably because it is a pop-up, I think they did not invest in a serious extractor fan so when I left I smelled of fry-up and food. I hope 1) they become a permanent set-up 2) they invest in a powerful extractor fan, as I really enjoyed the food and definintely want more of it
Great food will be back!!! Recommend the crab, chicken fried chicken, and the chips!
Had a great lunch. Really friendly service and the food was awesome.
Excellent concept and the food was outstanding. The 6 course sharing menu deal on Tuesday's is amazing value for money. Strongly recommend a visit before it closes!
Every dish was truly delicious! Service was attentive but not imposing.
Our only complaint was that we didn’t have room in our tummies to try everything on the menu!
Amazing food and atmosphere- love it here. Share plates are such a wonderful way to eat
Brilliant food as always, and a great atmosphere, highly recommended.
Excellent food, space was small but service was decent and seemed to open up as time went on. The food and drinks were phenomenal.
Me and my wife loved pork belly fried chicken and the duck Malaysian dish.
Excellent food and really friendly staff. Great Japanese vibe too!
Delicious and inventive food, wonderful staff and service. Favorites are the salmon truffle "pizza", roasted aubergines and cod tacos.
Brilliant dishes and friendly staff- a great place for a casual meal. We were two friends catching up and ate most of the menu, enjoying it all. It's a relaxed set up, in a temporary space, but the cooking and drinks are top notch. The pork belly is a real standout, one of the best mouthfuls available in London right now, we had to order two!
We loved every dish we ordered. The fish taco was amazing and the duck. To have Scott cook while you eat was great.
Food was good, not amazing. Service was OK, not great. Ambience definitely not great - uncomfortable chairs - that being said, it's OK for a pop-up restaurant but it's definitely over-prices for a pop-up restaurant. Ultimately it was decent but I would not necessarily go out of my way to recommend to a friend.
Great food as always. Not many places in London you can get food like this. Brilliant service and perfect lunch spot for quick catch up with friends
Creative options and wonderful presentation. All the plates were amazing and decently priced. With drinks, a group of 5 ate handsomely for 40 quid a head and got to try a little bit of everything.
Had a lovely time. Went with friends tried most of the menu and absolutely loved it. Incredibly tasty flavoursome food.
