Free Range Restaurant
The place wasn’t open!!!
Free Range has great food, but the service is terrible. Your bothering the servers and you CANT sit inside the noise level is unbelievable!
Dirty bathroom and no soap. Flies everywhere. Service non existent. Ordered a salad, and appetizer and dinner. After a very long wait, our dinners came out. Never got salad and app. They said they can keep our dinners “warm” and would bring out salad and app. We said no, just give us the dinners. The manager/owner brought out the salad and app and said we wouldn’t be charged for them. When we got our bill they charged us for the app. When I spoke to the manager/owner he really didn’t seem to care. We are locals, not tourists, and will never be returning. The entire experience was very disappointing. They seem very unorganized and don’t know how to run a restaurant.
The food was fabulous! Great service! I highly recommend it! We will definitely return ! It is a hidden gem! 🌻🌻
Food was on point and the service was exceptional. The chef even came out to see how our meal was.
The food is outstanding. You can tell the chef takes pride in crafting his dishes!
Good dinner. A bit pricey but nice
Great find near the boardwalk
First, the food- it was delicious. Among us, we had the salad with the feta, the eggplant with burrata, truffle Mac and cheese, and the bucatini. It all came in generous portions and was quite enjoyable. We also had bread, which arrived at our table just about when the check did, despite our having to ask for it repeatedly. It was good. Too bad we didn’t get it before or even with dinner. Second, the ambiance. We were seated against a corrugated metal wall, which no doubt only exacerbated the extremely loud noise level. There were a few things that I assume were meant to help, such as a couple or wall planters and a few ceiling panels, but far from enough to help lessen the din. The proximity of the tables to one another didn’t help. It would probably have been quieter if we ate at the street-side tables. Third, the service. It was the food that caused me to give an overall 4 stars. The service, along with the noise level, was a great detriment to our dining experience. The people on the floor all seemed disorganized and inexperienced. We had to ask for the simple things like salt and pepper, more water, the bread, our wine to be opened and so on, more than we should have had to. With good service we would not have to ask for any of those things. This place clearly has an excellent chef. What they also need is a competent floor manager and experienced management staff .
Awesome meal at Ftee Range...again. creative menu, excellent presentation and the best food on the Jersey Shore.
The special salad was delicious. The pork chop exceptionally good.
Although our friends warned us (they waited 2 hours for their meals recently) we decided to give this restaurant a try. We waited almost one hour for our dinners. They told us they ran out of chicken and had to go to the store. They were also out of french fries. The service was sloppy when she did deliver a salad and food, basically throwing the plates on the table and not refilling water. No bread service so we were pretty hangry.
The food actually tasted very good when it arrived and they offered us free dessert to make up for the wait.
This was my third visit to free range and as always, the food did not disappoint. We made a reservation and were seated upon arrival with no wait. I think the service could have been a little better. The waiter may have been run down from a long weekend of being very busy, but you never let your customers know that. When asked if there were any specials he snapped "No. It was a very busy weekend, no time for any specials". His response was rather rude. Our food order did take quite a bit of time to come out but we kept ourselves plenty busy. Everything we were served: Eggplant Burrata, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Tuna Guacamole and the 64 oz. Tomahawk Steak were outstanding. We split the Tomahawk among 5 people and we all had plenty. If you are a steak lover, I highly recommend this. I will definitely be visiting Free Range again!
Reserved an outside table it was a gorgeous night. A few small children running around jumping off the railing was a bit annoying but the left before the food arrived. Waited for a while till someone came out to take our order and bring water.. Apps cane out and waiter said be right back with the bread. Apps done and no bread. Asked and it came out with the meal. Pork chops excellent, scallops also very good, chicken also very good. My mom has the eggplant app for dinner also great. Wanted to order carrots as a side., they ran out! Always good food but the service wasn’t so great.
A good option for dinner in Seaside. Very slow service...
The service was not good and the food was overpriced.
The place is cute, clean and sparse. The food was fine, pricey for “fast food” service. MEH
Love this place!
Quality of the food did not match the prices.
Quantity of food did not match with the prices.
The food was good. I will say that. But not worth the wait. This place did not have their act together or have any service of any kind really. We made a reservation and someone called to confirm we were coming half an hour before we arrived. When we arrived, we waited several minutes for assistance that never came. I tracked down a woman behind a counter and said we had a reservation. She said they didn't take reservations but would seat us at a table. She cleaned a table and we sat for about 10 minutes before realizing there was no service. We had to go to the counter and order. So we waited in line ten minutes and ordered. We had been there half an hour already. The food took another hour. We had ordered egg sandwiches, so not quite sure, what happened. There were a few large parties, but the place was half empty. Many people there were waiting long periodsfor food and service. It just wasn't worth it. The food was good, but expensive, and I would not recommend going to this restaurant. No one talked to us or apologized for anything.
Food was really good however it took extremely long to get our food and drinks and the staff was struggling to fulfill all the orders.
All of our entrees were great!!
Finding excellent food in the Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Ortley, Lavallette, Chadwick area is always an issue. Free Range is the exception. The food, service, and ambiance was excellent. I am a frequent traveler to NYC and as I said to my wife, Free Range is NYC quality at the Jersey Shore. It is BYOB and the prices are reasonable. I had Seabass and it was the best I have had in a long time. It was not the typical frozen Branzino that you get at some places but clearly caught that day and prepared in an exceptional manner My wife had the day scallops that were excellent also. For our appetizer she had a garden salad and we split the guacamole tuna.
Overall one of the best restaurants we have on the island. I can only hope they do well as we will be a frequent visitor.
I found this restaurant by accident and was so happy! The food was amazing and the service was great!
The food was excellent and I will go back just based on that. The waiter was good but the overall service was a little slow. When the food came out, the pasta was hot but the scallops were cold. The use of a food runner/bus boy would be beneficial to get the food out faster and clear the tables.
Wonderful food and great waitstaff. Unfortunately the kitchen got backed up though, and it took us nearly at hour to get our food after ordering. Will definitely try again in the hopes this was a one-time thing!
Food is outstanding. Casual atmosphere. Not cheap, but worth every penny
Love everything about Free Range
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. The restaurant was not crowded, but our server hardly checked on us. We ordered the mussels dish and the eggplant burrata for appetizers.
The mussels were very good, but I expected more from the eggplant dish. It tasted like a good eggplant parmigiana. The eggplant were a bit over-fried and dressed in a rich marinara sauce. The delicate nature of burrata was completely lost.
After the first course, the waitress asked us to keep our utensils for our main course. Considering they had cheese and were used for seafood, I asked for fresh utensils for our entrees which she accommodated.
My wife ordered the scallops dish and I ordered the pork chop. Both were very good. I would only criticize the scallop dosh due to the small portion. It looked like an appetizer. Perhaps if they served it with heavier accompaniments it would have worked better.
We ordered the lemon cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert, which were both good.
Though it was a very nice meal, I left expecting a bit more. We celebrated our anniversary here last year, and the food and service was much better.
The food was outstanding. Only criticism is the tables and chairs are on the small side. We were four average sized adults and felt cramped. We will definitely go back again. Great find in Seaside Heights.
Excellent!!! Food and service fantastic! Get the steak and mussels
The food was amazing. Tables are a little too close together and they could use some ceiling fans. Of course we were there on one of the 100 degree days. But the food and the service were excellent
A rainy Thursday evening. What to do? Free Range! Had the Mac n Cheese. So good. Then the Porterhouse special. Over the top! Great job all! Perfect date night.
Great place for a different twist on breakfasts. Delicious!!
Food was outstanding but the place was uncomfortably hot and the service was not very good. We never received the bread we asked for and the wait staff seemed inexperienced and curt. Because the food was really good we will give it a second try, we were there for dinner
Food was excellent, a bit pricey but everything was wonderful. Service was also great
It was our first time eating at Free Range this season. Last year it was one of our favorites. I am glad to say it continues. We had the Mac and cheese appetizer which had large bits of bacon and small shrimp among its creamy and perfectly cooked macaroni. The double bone on pork chop is simply a delight and must to consider. It’s incredible sweet potato side is delightfully spiced and the roasted brussel sprouts not bitter but could have gone a little while longer on the roaster. If you are visiting the shore this is a must visit location. When making a reservation make sure you identify whether you want an inside or outside seat.
This is my go-to BYOB restaurant, so I don't really want to complain but they did not have the chicken the night I was there. We went on Monday night. The waitress said they ran out because it was a super busy July 4th weekend -- of course it was! It's the Jersey Shore in the summer. But I will be back because the food is tasty.
I would like to start by saying that when I made my reservation I was expecting a reserved table, which was not the case. We went for breakfast which apparently does not have table service. You look at the menu when you walk in the door, place your order and then sit where you would like. The food was very good but it took a long time to get. We were the first customers. There weren't any napkins or silverware provided at the table. We had to constantly get up and down to request things for the table. Maybe dinner service is different. As I said above, I was expecting a sit down restaurant experience, especially since we made a RESERVATION. We will not be going back to this restaurant.
Very, very noisy
