CELEBRATING BRITAIN’S CULINARY TAPESTRY

Galvin at The Athenaeum is the latest restaurant from Michelin-starred London chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin. For the first time the brothers have stepped away from their trademark French-inspired menus in favour of championing Britain’s delicious homegrown produce and supporting independent farmers across the UK. An exciting array of new menus include Afternoon Tea and Private Dining, and feature a modern take on classic British dishes combined with Galvin favourites.

The meu prix fixe at lunch had an extremely good choice of dishes and the food was presented well and was very tasty. With a glass of brut included it was great value.

I went here because the restaurant in Baker Street has closed and I had like it. This restaurant is in the Atheneum Hotel in Piccadilly. It is slightly posher than the Baker Street one and less friendly as it is an extension of the foyer of the hotel itself.

The staff were excellent and attentive. The menu was slightly up market from Baker Street but the food was excellent. The cauliflower soup was superb with an exquisite onion bhagi, the dressed Portland crab presented very well and the Welsh rump of lamb perfect and pink.

This is reasonable expensive but worth it. We weren’t rushed and were looked after very well. It is worth a try but it will not become the favourite Baker was

Revisited this place with my friend & wasn't disappointed. The fixed price menu with a glass of champagne is great value for a fine dining type of establishment. My sea bream was well cooked & well matched with a pea risotto. And Eton Mess was light & full of flavour. Would definitely return!

This is such a good deal - and a great venue. Staff are delightful and friendly. Furniture is quirky - though some tables are a bit close together. Cauli Soup with Onion Bhaji starter was To Die For and my favourite thing about the whole meal. My chicken main was nice but the accompanying panzanella was truly disappointing. More annoying was the waiter said nothing about the amount left on my plate. The bread was soggy and disintegrating; there were no capers or anchovies. The chocolate ice cream was nice, but could have done with a bit more honeycomb.

I was looking for a restaurant with air condition, not too noisy and easy to get to.

Our friends were coming from London Airport to see us and having been before I thought this was the perfect place to meet.
As usual the menu was very good, the service excellent, one of us went off prix fixe but that was no problem.
When reserving through your site, I could not get the menu, had to go into Galvin site.
Will go back in August.

My parents visited from abroad so I chose this place with set menu. Reception and service is outstanding, you really see the class and style in this place. Food is exquisite especially the pork steak.
Sparkling water and bread charge for extra - but I guess i should have asked anyway.
Overall it’s wonderful place for special occasional fine dining.

This is a wonderful find. We have been to Galvins in Edinburgh and this is better! The service was excellent, could not have been better. Menu very good, well balanced. Food delivery was not too rushed. We will certainly return

A hugely disappointing lunch compared to previous visits. The set menu of £24.95 with a glass of champagne has always been good value. Not so now. a starter of crab attracted a supplement of £8 and the main course lamb £10. Although chocolate ice cream was on the menu it was not available. The substitute was pistachio ice cream with very sparse crushed honeycomb. This required no culinary expertise. Not what one is used to in Galvins restaurants. I have received no reply to my letter of complaint.

The decor in the dining room is not inspired with low ceiling and depressing lights.
The staff though were extremely helpful and pleasant which helped to cheer the evening along.
We thought that the food below the usual Galvin standard and not as good was in the sadly missed Bistro de Luxe in Baker Street.
This is a good place to be with old friends as the tables are well spaced and the music not too intrusive.

We had the weekend brunch with the bottomless proscecco. There was a good choice of starters and mains and we could help ourselves to unlimited desserts from the buffet. All excellent for £45 per head.

Despite the restaurant not being busy, they took a good 20 minutes to take the order.
When it came, the food was classical, not overcomplicated and importantly, delicious.
Finally they overcharged on the bill, corrected it when it was pointed out, but without any apology.
I think the waiting staff could be better trained.
Having made these comments, we would go again.

Amazing service from Luigi made our visit. It was good value for money unlike many afternoon teas within Central London however a couple of the cakes were not great quality and one tasted burnt. The good thing was that we were too full by then so we were not disappointed by not being able to eat the overcooked ones

This was our second visit to Galvin's at the Athenaeum and it did not diappoint. The service was attentive without being intrusive and we both complemented the high quality and quantity of our meal. The Sunday roast was one of the most delicious we have tasted and lunching out on a Sunday is a regular occasion.
Our maitre d' was informative and provided us with a splendid recommendation for a non-alcoholic drink.
Galvin's at the Athenaeum will be a regular dining experience

Booking on Opentable, the offer promoted and the offer on the day were confusing.
It wasn’t clear on arrival and being handed the menu if the offer was available.
The offer was for 3 course plus a glass of prosecco £24.50.
We had to ask if the prix fixe menu was available and the glass of prosecco wasn’t offered, which made us think the offer we booked wasn’t available

The lighting in the restaurant reminds you you’re sitting in a hotel lobby. I was waiting for someone to roll a set of left luggage through the dining room. The starters were nice but they left dirty plates for a good 10 minutes. I ordered the rib-eye to have it substituted for sirloin. When it arrived it was cooked beyond well done when ordered medium rare. They took the steak off the bill but overall we couldn’t wait to get out fast enough.

The service was very slow indeed but made tolerable by the attentive pleasant waiting staff - The food was just O.K. --Not great and not poor. The special discounted bill made the visit worthwhile-- If we (4 of us) had paid the full price we would not have been too happy.

Another lovely meal at The Athenaeum and it never disappoints. Do try and arrive in time to enjoy a drink in their beautiful bar where the mixed nuts are especially good. When advised of a colleague's nut allergy she quickly received her own bowl of veggie crisps!

Lovely location, however unfortunately the restaurant did not have our booking confirmed on their system. Thankfully we were not turned away, but we were sat at a table on our own with absolutely no other guests which made for a poor atmosphere.

We went for afternoon tea. The room was nicely decorated for Christmas but the tables were to close together, conversations from the other tables were heard word to word. Sandwiches mediocre, turkey & cranberry was disgusting. The cucumber & cream cheese didn’t taste of anything. The chicken & egg ones were very nice. pastries too sickly sweet. Very small servings, hard to share between 2 people. Champagne was warm. Service was terrible, no offer of hot water refill for tea nor did they offer us more sandwiches (been for afternoon tea at other venues and was always offered more sandwiches, etc). Left feeling disappointed & paid alot for very poor service & not much food, sharing pastries is ok but there wasn’t alot. Scones were very small & only 1 plain 1 fruit, with scones that small should have been 2 per person.
