During the summer month the terrace give the feel of a true Parisian sidewalk wher
This place absolutely bangs. Food was great & service was great too. To start my partner had the steak tartar and it was fantastic (and HUGE), for mains I had the entrecôte steak and chips, my partner had the escargot and chips - both really delicious and perfectly portioned. For desert we shared a tart tatin - which was also just lovely. One down point was that we were originally seated next to the door to the toilets, which is quite high traffic, so lost a bit on the ambience. However, because we arrived at 8:30pm (which is late in curfew times) it wasn't too busy and we moved ourselves over one table which they didn't seem to mind as there was no other diners within a meter. Cool decor, too. Highly recommend!
Lovely place to have dinner with friends. Delicious food with an excellent wine list and knowledgeable staff.
Food is good, flavour and technique are there.
The menu was the choice of only 3 starter-3 main -3 dessert, understandably the restaurant has to adapt for the Covid-19 crisis with food menu and staff.
But for ordering 2 courses and waiting one hour and 30minutes,that’s is definitely too long.
Knowing there is only the choice from 3 items.
With out mentioning the dessert order, after 10 minutes waiting to order I just give up and asked for the bill.
Lunch for 4 pax at 13:45 left the restaurant at 15:20
We went here following the 2 other places we tried had no tables Friendly staff greeted us, fetched our drinks and then the wonderful food arrived. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambience and shall return
The boudin noir was sloppy but the rest of the food was very good
Wonderful food and excellent service. Topped off by the gorgeous Chris Galvin showing us around his restaurant next door La Chapelle .... will definitely be back
Had a nice meal outside on one of the "Eat out" evenings. Nice place and good food - not sure about how padron peppers works as an accompaniment, though. 2.5 drinks apiece, three course for £100 for 2. Would go again without the discount. Would be a nice place in the autumn with a blanket on ones lap.
Booked a table for my boyfriend birthday: staff was amazing and very polite, great food and romantic atmosphere! Definitely recommend
Croquettes to start and bavette for main, all delicious and hearty portions.
The front area would probably be nicer to sit for a more intimate space. It’s brighter and with higher ceilings in the back.
The waiter inside the room was wearing face mask but the tall waitress who wear glasses that served us and everyone in the outside area did not wear a mask. After from this all good. My Favourite one still is La Chapelle and Windows
Delicious food and great service! We had the Steak and the Cod with Cockles, which were both beautifully cooked
Good food and great service. A little on the expensive side but good quality.
Nice setting with outside seating. Fresh food and good meats
Had the bottomless brunch menu with 6 friends, which is fantastic value. There’s lots of choice for each course and the staff were able to give good advice and recommendations. The dishes were beautifully presented and really tasty. The atmosphere is relaxed and does get a bit lively once the prosecco is flowing! The prosecco they served was nice as well as sometimes in the ‘bottomless’ brunches the quality can sometimes be poor. Staff were attentive even when the restaurant became busy. My only feedback would be that I think the restaurant need to be a bit more on the ball with updating their websites/social media as the menu was completely different to the ones I’d seen, I appreciate that menus can change frequently but this can be easily uploaded onto an Instagram page and have seen other restaurants with daily changing menus do this.
Galvin HOP is a relaxed spot with tasty food - really good value set menu - and friendly efficient service.
Son’s 50th Birthday. There was a fire at original restaurant so we went to Galvin Atheneum instead. The staff were great and brought him a special Birthday desert.
Great brunch menu. The pheasant tagliatelle was lovely. Atmosphere was relaxed and didn’t feel rushed
Only 1 vegetarian option and no vegan options! Ridiculous at this day and age! Plus we ordered the chocolate pudding and it was massively over priced for the portion! Was barely even a portion! Wouldn’t go back again
My partner and I love Galvin HOP - excellent food, fair prices, the ambience has a great energy but it’s not overwhelmingly noisy, we would often give “Outstanding” across the board. This being said, it was the first time that (as a vegetarian), there wasn’t really anything I wanted. In the past, there have been 2 or 3 options, but something was missing - I think the options didn’t seem particularly exciting or innovative, and there was no “oooo” or “mhmmm”’s from me this time. I opted for a starter, and then two sides for the main, and the lentils side was by a clear mile the better dish than the starter. The staff were as welcoming and friendly as ever, and the service is always great. It was a little disappointing because we asked for water and were offered the house sparkling water (carbonated on site in reusable glass bottles), which we were asked if we wanted refilling towards the end of our meal, and then we were surprised to be charged a price you would expect for San Pellegrino in a nice restaurant. When we raised that this felt a little odd, the staff got a little defensive and offered for us to take back the tip that was left. It was a little bit of a sad end to the night because we have found, every time we visit, that all the staff to be lovely and welcoming, and there was no issue with the service (hence why the tip was left in the first place), but wanted to give a bit of feedback and it wasn’t well received. By no means was this a dampener on our overall view of the restaurant and I cannot state enough that it is one of our favourite places in London and we will certainly be back for more delicious food, but I wanted to be honest, and I hope the feedback can be received here.
Delicious food and very good service in a relaxed environment, worth a visit
Restaurant was very busy and lively, fish was over cooked and potatoes needed seasoning. Had to ask,for salt and pepper nothing on tables. The menu online was not what we were offered.
Unfortunately toilets were disgusting and I had to complain to manager, i was sent to,use the main restaurant toilets.
Would not return
Lovely experience - great food and service. We felt very looked after and were allowed to stay chatting at our table long after we’d finished eating which was much appreciated :-).
Lovely food but we were stuck next to a big, loud Christmas party. I’m sure it would be better normally.
Visited recently for the Bottomless Brunch and had a great meal. We opted for an extra to nibble while waiting - a very large serving of delicious padron peppers. The meal itself was excellent, loved all three courses, and we drank plenty of Prosecco! Service was good but unobtrusive and we weren't rushed out. Would definitely recommend.
Went there for Sunday lunch excellent roast beef and the trimmings . Lovely roast squid for fish lovers and some good veggie options . Good service . What is not to like . Big fan of the Galvins chain and their excellent cooking .
Good quality, tasty meal but not exceptional!
The food was excellent, as it always is in Galvin restaurants. The waiters were great. Generally a good balance of sophisticated, but relaxed and unpretentious. Only complaint was that the heating needs to be turned up for a cold November evening, we were both wearing a jumper and a fleece - it would nice to feel cozy on a winter's evening. I still recommend it, but dress warm.
The food and the staff were great
The music was terrible both in terms of choice and volume
Lovely roast at Galvin HOP. Good service and we eventually found a wine we like. Surprised they can't make their outside space round the back more inviting. The astroturf and the coatstands just don't fit with the great food. Will def go again though!
The only thing that let it down was that I booked through Opentable and wasn’t allowed to use my rewards cheque.
We booked a table for 6 people that had 2 vegetarians. There was only 1 vegetarian main on the menu (miso aubergine). Okay, not ideal, but we don't have a choice.
We then find out that there is only one portion remaining. Cue us asking them if we could order from the menu of their connected restaurant (no), or if they could make an alternate dish (no). As luck would have it, they then come out and say "actually it's okay, we can make 2 portions."
The plates come and they only have a quarter of an aubergine on each. Disappointing would be an understatement.
It was a beautiful sunny day and we ate outside. We had the set lunch menu which was excellent and good value for money. Service could not have been better. Happy atmosphere. Will certainly go again.
Booked a table for 5 at fairly short notice. Very attentive service and enjoyable meal. Convenient for Liverpool Street Station.
I chose the Sunday lunch which was beef. It was OK - a little too fatty and salty. However, I generally like Galvins so I think I may have chosen the wrong thing
Food was lovely, and so were the team members. The only issue we had was that there was no vegetarian gravy to go with the Sunday roast. Wouldn’t have been such a problem but we had emailed ahead to check if there would be a vegetarian option.
Great for a booked meal or for dropping in for drinks or dessert & coffee. Always welcoming and usually space.
Fine fine fine
Food was good, wine overpriced. Service efficient. Restaurant not very busy on Saturday at 1930 maybe more of a mid-week restaurant.
Really good experience. Food was delicious and the set menu was excellent value for the quality.
Ordered: Sea bream ceviche, lime & chilli 9, delightful! Steak tartare, Burford brown egg yolk, toasted sourdough 11, this was a problem with communication with the waitress. Asked for a small portion, she said it was very small, but in fact it could really be for two people. Was ordered by a petite woman. Carlingford rock oysters, shallot vinegar & brown bread 6no 18, was fabulous and fresh, but no bread arrived with these. Also ordered baked skate, which was delightful, especially for skate. The escargot was nicely done, but had to also ask for bread with this. But the funny order was this: "Mixed leaves salad 3 French fries 4 French beans & confit shallot 4". This is what the menu said. I thought we needed some greens and for £4 I ordered this for us. I read it out loud for comedic effect since there were three of us and I thought it was hilarious how it came with 3 french fries and 4 french beans. I commented that we would fight for the 4th bean. Hahaha. Well the joke was on us because the waitress, failed to see the humour in this. Although I read this word-for-word straight off the menu, she delivered us a mixed leaves salad. And 3 orders of french fries. And 3 orders of french beans. Well in the end I was perplexed until I figured out what happened and I ended up not saying anything but paying for the lot anyhow so I wouldn't cause a fuss with my lunch guests. The rosé is a nice Portugese variety. All-in-all, decent value and the menu is better than previously at hops, a bit less pub-like, which is nice. The atmosphere was fantastic - a sunny day out on the patio with heaters to take the edge off the cool breeze.
