Really lovely food, with a fantastic view over the ocean and great customer service.
Fabulous meal during such difficult times. Definitely worth the drive
Lovely venue with great sea views. Staff very attentive and polite. Sunday lunch was lovely although my beef was a little over cooked for my preference but still tasty. Would definitely recommend the restaurant and we will be visiting again soon.
Excellent service, the staff were very friendly and extremely efficient.
The Hotel looked beautiful with all the Christmas decorations, such a stunning setting even on a Winters day.
The food was delicious and we will definitely be returning
Great lunch as always, possibly the best Scotch Egg I have ever tasted.
Lovely staff, fabulous view and wonderful food! Super Sunday lunch!
I had the mussels and they were AMAZING! Highly recommend.
expensive,£6.50 for a pint etc but you pay for wonderful views!
Fantastic food and brilliant service. The food is all great quality, well prepared and presented.
Beautiful setting and delicious food. So pleased to have snuck in pre lockdown!
Lovely setting but as someone who deals in local produce I felt the £45/head for a Sunday Lunch was a lot higher than it should of been. That being said, the service was very good and the restaurant had a pleasant ambiance.
Menu varied in quality. Steak sandwich was excellent but the crab and leek quiche had no sign of either and was very disappointing.
Stunning location. Great food and service. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Very dog friendly.
Excellent, Locally sourced food and brilliant safety measures for Covid. Beautiful views and the restaurant is lovely.
Great restaurant after a walk from
east portlesmouth, good service and great food. Highly recommend
Excellent food in a great setting. Relatively simple dishes really well executed. Highly recommended.
Really outstanding food and service. Managed to adhere to covid procedures without spoiling the ambience. Great lunchtime experience.
This was a birthday treat for me and I wish I hadn’t bothered. Wine is absolutely extortionate. They only list the prices for 125ml which is a tiny amount .. a normal large glass of wine is 250ml. The mussels were undercooked and mushy and there was very little sauce. Did not feel Covid secure in fact was the worst restaurant we have visited. Toilets crowded and only one entrance/exit. Could not get out quickly enough. So disappointing.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Great food and very polite service. I would advise requesting a table by the window for the view.
Superb location, excellent service. Lunch choices good, vibe lovely.
Fabulous location, good food. Service was quite slow but it was very busy and I do appreciate things are taking longer at this difficult time. Staff were delightful
We had the most delightful Sunday Lunch at Gara Rock which we booked very easily on the day. It truly lifted our spirits and was so enjoyable. Stunning views through the huge glass windows, attentive staff and delicious food could not have been better. I can't recommend it enough and will be back soon.

Very nicely cooked traditional sunday lunch in great surroundings and staff that were appropriately attentive in the current circumstances.
I thought the meal was expensive and surprised to include a service charge and then on completing the credit card transaction ‘would i like to add a gratuity?’ Popped up
I would return to try and weekday menu but probably check prices first
How can dreadfully be said plainly. Such a shame as we were so looking forward to our lunch.
Had a great weekend at Gara. Food was lovely and service and friendliness of the staff just right.
Food was great and the service was brilliant, staff were friendly and welcoming.
Really good honest food , well presented by friendly staff. Vegetarian options were delicious.
Very good food coupled with outstanding service. Plus a superb location for a restaurant, great views through the big concave windows of the coastline and sea
Fantastic food, very good value. Amazing view of the coast too.
Newly rebuilt, Gara Rock is a super property in a commanding location. We had a 4 generation family meal with Devon relatives. The architecture is modern & well suited to the location. Cosy despite the rain & wind inbetween the sunny intervals. Everyone was happy with their choices from the limited menu choice - just 3 or 4 options each for starters, mains & desserts. Nice mix of informal & smart. Lots of walkers, with their dogs sometimes, amongst the residents & others like ourselves who had driven up for a meal. Its a long way from anywhere but worthwhile
We have three evening meals at Gara Rock. The first was in the bar, superb fish and chips and very well looked after by Karen.
The following two evenings were in the restaurant where we were allowed to be accompanied by our dog. The food was very tasty, imaginative, well presented, served promptly despite many people dining at once and piping hot.
Looking forward to our next visit.
Amazing service and delicious food with a view. Looking forward to returning
Really lovely restaurant and the specials on offer delicious ! Great staff relaxed but attentive! Beautiful views if you get a seat near the window! Would recommend!
Gara Rock rates itself highly. Lunch was very average. Average Fish and Chips and the worst Club Sandwich in the world. Club Sandwich should not look like the ingredients have been in a blender. A nice view is not enough. Much better places for lunch nearby. Will not return
Great food, amazing location and views from the restaurant. Service was very friendly, but a bit slow. We felt so relaxed. we didn't want to leave - can't wait to stay there next month :)
Everything lovely but the service was terribly slow that evening even though it was a Sunday night and it was not busy (Storm Dennis weekend) Staff more keen on talking to each other than clearing tables or checking if you wanted another drink or dessert etc. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely hotel and I would recommend staying as I’m all for a relaxed atmosphere but this was possibly a bit too relaxed!
Amazing views and a lovely hotel, our room was great. The pool was small but all very nice. Very enjoyable stay.
I think the food is pricey. Coley fillet at £22.95? One of the cheapest fish? Also why is anchovy toast labelled as vegetarian?
Fabulous Good food
We were very excited about Trying Gara Rock for lunch as we wanted to check it out for booking a break.
However would not recommend. Great location even on a winters day the view is stunning. Decor trendy beach vibe. However no atmosphere. Food dreadful. Don't think about complaing as We were told by the waiter when we said our steak was tough that the chef said its supposed to be like that as you have to cut it a certain way !!!! Never ordered a steak with 'Special instructions on how to cut it " We Wish we hadn't said anything feel like we had been told off by the so called 'Chef ".
Paid and left , Quickly !!!
Shame as it the Location is stunning !!!
