Excellent food, beautifully presented. Great for a special night out
Really lovely food. Excellent service. One of our party had various food intolerances and they catered for her really well.
Lovely Sunday roast really delicious, freshly cooked. You do pay a bit more here, but you are getting amazing quality. Only downside I had a double gin and fever tree tonic which I though was really over priced £5.90/per shot of gin and £1.80 for a bottle of tonic £13.60!!! Very pricey for a village pub (west end prices!)
Not a good experience this time. Had run out of all beef. Pork more than “pink” rather undercooked for most diners.
2nd visit where the pub was underperforming sadly.
Very accommodating for two elderly ladies with small appetites. Speed of service was just right, and food choice excellent
An interesting and varied menu with a delicious vegan option. Efficient and friendly service, will definitely recommend to friends and visit again.
Excellent food and service, highly recommend the George 1V. It was mid week and quite quiet I understand that week ends are very busy.
Gorgeous food and lovely service. The fish and chips and the soufflé was outstanding.
The gastro pub goes from strength to strength . Food and wine are a tour de force and whilst everyone is doing artisan gins , the George continues to surprise
Well done all !
Hadn't been for a while so thought would try. Very quiet throughout lunch with hardly anyone else in. My food was well cooked, really tasty, but the portions were small and the price was high. Unfortunately I was with a vegetarian and there was really very little choice on the menu. The only options available included foods she did not like. Having told the waitress this, there was absolutely no attempt to make any other suggestions and come up with any alternatives, even using items already on the menu from other dishes. She did offer to remove a couple of ingredients from one dish, but that meant literally leaving gnocchi without anything else. My friend ended up with a tiny side portion for her lunch. It was really very obvious and embarrassing. The puddings were tasty but, again, tiny portions especially as they were not cheap. My friend had to go elsewhere and buy a sandwich just to get something to eat. The staff didn't seem to care at all. They also didn't even bring any milk for tea and, after waiting and not catching their eye, I had to go and ask. It is not as though they were busy. Don't think I would go again.
As we entered the bar, it was a bit messy and chaotic, but the restaurant area around the back is more organised. Food was very good, staff excellent.
Food was lovely, however we were not shown the menu with the specials on. We overheard another table ordering & realised we hadn’t seen any of the dishes they were asking for. This was a shame as one of our party is huge carnivore & we missed out on some delicious sounding steaks.
The banana jam with the banana soufflé was delicious!
Great food in small gastro pub. Had ale pie which was awesome.
Nice place for a good meal. Menu / food wasn't quite as good as previous visits.
I do like my Sunday roast's and this one was a real treat. The George lV was tucked down a little country lane trying hard not to be found, very pleased we did. Excellent two course meal my wife and l had. See you again soon.
The pub itself was lovely and the starters were very nice however the roast dinner was very poor. I had a pork chop and thought it was going to be part of a joint so was very tough. The potatoes were hard and not cooked properly. For that price I expected a much better roast but it was more on par with a Wetherspoons if not worse
Very welcoming with Fabulous service and fabulous food
Very pleasant lunch. Food was excellent, would have given 5 stars but my main course was a little cold. Service just right.
Will deffinately visit again.
I wouldn’t go back. Probably one of worst Sunday lunches I’ve had.
Delicious food and drinks served by friendly staff in a very convivial atmosphere. Our friends were very impressed too.
Went for my grandfathers 90th. Great staff, great food! Better than I expected and I expected it to be very good.....
Food fantastic - way above standard of usual 'gastro pub' fare. Service quick, charming and slick. A very enjoyable night all round. We'll be back very soon.
A really good lunch in comfortable surroundings with good service. Thank you.
The George IV is the best kept secret in Hertfordshire. The food is exceptional and best value anywhere. Go!
Pub in great setting off main road with quiet outside seating area . However parking can be problematic when busy. Bar area far nicer than rear restaurant. Staff always pleasant and friendly. We’ve found food on Sunday, albeit good, sometimes just misses the mark than in the week. Have been a regular for some time now and would always recommend.
Second recent visit to this relatively small and well kept gastro pub and I doubt it will be my last! Good mix of modern pub classics and more original dishes on the menu. Staff very polite, upbeat and attentive. Service was prompt. Maybe not the cheapest but good value. Some restrictions on parking.....
Nothing really lived up to our expectations. I think they forgot the kaluha in the espresso martinis and that was before any food came along. All okay but just not outstanding. Good for a pub but for a venue selling itself as gastro and considering local competition, I wouldn’t bother going back. Will try somewhere else. Yes you can try to make it right at the restaurant at the time but I don’t want to spend my evening returning dishes. Unless there’s an exceptional problem, I’d rather let it go and put my effort into having a good time with friends. Service was excellent though, they really want it to be good experience for you.
Had a lovely evening in the George IV. Great food with a slightly different menu than normal - probably reflecting Valentines Day. As usual a great meal and good service from all staff.
Good food good service and nice ambience. Not easy to park but well worth a visit.
Great way to celebrate family birthdays, food great, service wonderful - thank you all
I have been a number of times to the George with my wife and mother, each time we have found it to be excellent, the quality of the food is very high in a relaxed atmosphere
Lovely meal very attentive service without being intrusive. Tables and chairs need to be updated
Fantastic food and service. have never had a bad meal their
Great place if you like meat but very poor on the veggie options. I had a half roasted cauliflower which was dry and lacking in creativity. I gave feedback on this at the time but had no response. Last time I ate here was New Year’s Eve - I had fish that time which was perfectly cooked but without a sauce and ended up being dry as a dish. It’s a shame as the meat menu is really good and well thought through (as is the wine - we spent £50 on that alone) but it just doesn’t work for me or my 11 year old daughter who also doesn’t eat meat. Plus on Friday night they’d run out of fish and chips...
We visit the George over Christmas and we had a lovely Sunday dinner. I don’t know if this Sunday was an off day, but the quality was not the same. The starters were great, but the main course had issues. The vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were over cooked looked like they had seen better days. The beef had to be set back as my daughter asked for no red bits (I know not the correct way) but it came out under cooked. Service was very slow.
Had the Sunday lunch lovely food and nice atmosphere Beef very tender and Yorkshire was great
Arrived at pub 30 min early to have a drink whisked into back area sat down . 19.00 run out of some parts of menu already. Food all ok but a little expensive for what it was . Not for me thanks
Fantastic food and service; cosy setting on a very cold night. Highly recommended!
Friendly country pub with beautifully presented and prepared food. Quiet just what we wanted .
The food was very good and imaginative. The manager served us and was charming. Will go back with friends very soon
