Good food and service. Only small gripe is why the tiny starters have to be served in such deep bowls. It is difficult cutting the food up with a knife and fork if the food is in a bowl. Bowls are for spoons !
Would highly recommend this pub for it delicious food and tranquil location.
Lovely food and outstanding service. Would highly recommend and will definitely be going back. Personally I would sooner leave a tip than see service charge on menu.
This was our third visit and everything was great , service ,food especially the soufflé outstanding .
Great choices of Gin and a variety of tonics to match
Very good Sunday Lunch with a best ever Crumble . Will definitely visit again soon.
Lovely local pub, set in a beautiful place! Highly recommend for a special occasion!
Service is spot-on and food amazing, although the portions could be a bit bigger.
Great food and service located in a beautiful part of Hertfordshire. Highly recommend a walk along the canal and finishing off with a late lunch at George IV
Very hot day. Was very busy outside. We waited 55 minutes between starter and main.
Very pleasant place. Staff very attentive. Food good. Nice outside dining.
Delicious food as usual. Quality well cooked and well presented.
Great evening warm welcoming resturant.
Great menu covered all bases.
Good atmosphere as soon as we arrived were welcomed and shown to our table. Good selection of beers and a gin menu -unfortunately I was the dedicated driver - so maybe next time! Beautifully presented food expertly cooked. Will definitely book again and probably sooner than later.
Excellent Sunday roast, best around, albeit a little pricey it's worth it!
First time eating here after hearing good things and we weren't disappointed. Very friendly staff and delicious food.
Great quality, tasty and perfectly seasoned food.
Would definitely come back.
Both the food and service was exceptional. Worth the drive for the gin as well. Even though it was busy the staff were top draw and a credit to the business.
Great sharing Tomahawk pork dish. Attentive service. Fabulous dish.
Can’t wait to go back
Superb food, lovely little place tucked away.
Service is always on point. The specials are great and the food is always so tasty and fresh.
Had a table for 4 to catch up with some friends. Staff very polite and cheerful. Good food appreciated by us all and really good puds.
One of the best meals I've had after being in Hertfordshire for 2 years.
A tucked away pub but the food is soo good and tasty.
The staff are super friendly and can't do enough for you - will cater for pretty much whatever you want.
I went for Halloumi Fries to start, which also came with Hummus - strange combo but was still delicious!
Main I went for Mutton, which was so nice - was cooked so well.
Will definitely be coming back here!
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The George IV. The food was delicious and all staff helpful and professional.
Excellent food and friendly service in a lovely environment
Ambience of the back dining room is very poor, service was poor - i.e. drinks slow, table not laid however the staff were extremely pleasant, food very average, Liver pink but in my opinion under done, had to send meal back to begin with due to cold mash, beef was gristly and only 2 veg on menu.
Booked for sons birthday on the opentable site did not know we had to have the fixed 3 course meal for £32.50 for mother’s day.
Had written that daughter is gluten free yet they had run out of gf gravy, had no substitute or even provided shop bought gf Yorkshire pudding.
I forgot to say that she is dairy free at the moment as she is breast feeding and her baby has to be dairy free. There was no dessert available but they kindly put a small amount of fruit on a plate and we were still charged full amount.
Asked to move table as we were squashed in the middle and staff constantly bumped into our chairs, even though there were tables available by the wall they would not allow us to move.
Mananger did explain that they had been extremely busy but this was not a cheap meal and tbh they should have been prepared we booked well in advance.
Friendly staff although some knowledge of food ingredients would have been helpful when discussing intolerances etc. Very cosy feeling place with decent food.
Although they offer high chairs for babies and toddlers they don’t offer any changing facilities which was disappointing and quite surprising in this day and age.
This venue has a lovely position, and cosy /rustic atmosphere. Service and welcome is always friendly and efficient. Above all, the food is imaginative, freshly prepared by excellent chefs, and attractively presented. Will remain on our favourites list !
It’s a lovely Pub/Restaurant and great for meeting friends etc. I was there with two other girlfriends and strangely enough we all chose the Calf’s Liver. The presentation looked superb and service was excellent but sadly the liver didn’t meet our expectations because it was grissely and full of sinues making it really chewy. The meal was expensive so we were very disappointed. Don’t think we will rush back.
George IV never disappoints. Sunday roast was delicious as always and craft beers made it even more special. Recently refurbished so looks even more cosy and welcoming than ever, without loosing its character and traditional feel. Planning to return soon!!!
Was our first visit and we had the Sunday lunch and the food did not match up to the reviews the beef roast was disappointing but must admit the dessert was good. This could be a one off but will not be taking friends for a Saturday evening meal as intended.
Lovely pub with amazing food and good atmosphere. The only downside is the service which can be quite slow, with the food taking quite a long time to come out and the staff not really checking in regularly to make sure all is ok. However, this does not impact on the wonderful experience as the food is so good.
Love this place.
Service is impeccable - they even said, if there wasn't something on the menu since everything is fresh, if we were to call up with a special requirement they would do what they could to source it make it for us. WOW!
Food - cooked amazingly. Super tender meat and nicely presented.
Pricing - is superb given the local vicinity.
Definitely go here if you get a chance.
Great Sunday lunch, a little disappointed the only beef option was a 'Wellington' with a £30 supplement to the set menu.
Four of us went to George IV for Sunday Lunch. The welcome we received when we arrived was warm as if we had met before. Shown to our table in the bar area and after a short while we placed our order. When the food was served it looked very nice, but it turned out excellent. Really enjoyed the meal. Service was spot on. The Gin was also very nice at the bar.
Will we return? not for a table in the bar, tables to close to one another.
The beer is good, the food is great and the staff are lovely.
Good food, reasonably priced in a relaxed atmosphere.
Good selection of beers.
The kitchen at George IV is the best in the area. The team have a compact menu using excellent ingredients and the dishes show considerable thought and flair. Very light mackerel starter, excellent duck main course and a soufflé which failed to live up to the previous menu version. Wine list like the food is compact and reasonable value. A restaurant to be cherished in Hertfordshire.
The pork belly starter was the best I have ever tasted, and the Chateaubriand was awesome.
Home made chips are well worth mentioning
Great food and service .
Filet steak on the bone was excellent , lamb and mash very good but portion a bit small.
The food was excellent as was the service. All of the on line reviews were completely accurate.
Deserves greater recognition, food choices excellent , wine and gin excellent
Easiest best gastronpub in the area
