Second recent visit to this relatively small and well kept gastro pub and I doubt it will be my last! Good mix of modern pub classics and more original dishes on the menu. Staff very polite, upbeat and attentive. Service was prompt. Maybe not the cheapest but good value. Some restrictions on parking.....
Good food good service and nice ambience. Not easy to park but well worth a visit.
Great way to celebrate family birthdays, food great, service wonderful - thank you all
I have been a number of times to the George with my wife and mother, each time we have found it to be excellent, the quality of the food is very high in a relaxed atmosphere
Lovely meal very attentive service without being intrusive. Tables and chairs need to be updated
Fantastic food and service. have never had a bad meal their
Great place if you like meat but very poor on the veggie options. I had a half roasted cauliflower which was dry and lacking in creativity. I gave feedback on this at the time but had no response. Last time I ate here was New Year’s Eve - I had fish that time which was perfectly cooked but without a sauce and ended up being dry as a dish. It’s a shame as the meat menu is really good and well thought through (as is the wine - we spent £50 on that alone) but it just doesn’t work for me or my 11 year old daughter who also doesn’t eat meat. Plus on Friday night they’d run out of fish and chips...
We visit the George over Christmas and we had a lovely Sunday dinner. I don’t know if this Sunday was an off day, but the quality was not the same. The starters were great, but the main course had issues. The vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were over cooked looked like they had seen better days. The beef had to be set back as my daughter asked for no red bits (I know not the correct way) but it came out under cooked. Service was very slow.
Had the Sunday lunch lovely food and nice atmosphere Beef very tender and Yorkshire was great
Arrived at pub 30 min early to have a drink whisked into back area sat down . 19.00 run out of some parts of menu already. Food all ok but a little expensive for what it was . Not for me thanks
Fantastic food and service; cosy setting on a very cold night. Highly recommended!
Friendly country pub with beautifully presented and prepared food. Quiet just what we wanted .
The food was very good and imaginative. The manager served us and was charming. Will go back with friends very soon
Great food. Would recommend. Will be back to try the rest of the menu.
Having eaten there before I was confident that would be a pleasant dinner - as indeed it proved to be
I regularly eat Sunday lunch here & this time it wasn’t as good as usual.
Good, but not as good as it was when first opened under the new owner.
Superb menu with "different " choices eg partridge. All deliciously cooked and attractively presented.
Service very good - friendly, helpful, competent.
Prices good for quality and range of food offered.
My only problem was booking online which I didn't like, not least because I couldn't ask any questions eg table location (2 of our group had mobility problems)
Really lovely food, very tasty Sunday lunch, booked at last min and they fitted us in! GREAT wine selection. Only very minor comment is that the service was a bit slow on drinks orders and top ups of drinks.
All in all would return! Friendly staff!
As usual high standards being maintained by this establishment
If they did breakfasts I’d probably move in
We had a lovely relaxed meal at George IV on Saturday. Excellent service - attentive, slick but not
intrusive - and great food. Very interesting and varied menu with a neat twist on some old classics - ham and duck egg with potato cake. Really recommend the banana soufflé - it was sublime.
The booking was well handled and the table ready for us when we arrived. An excellent lunch in a popular place. It's popularity makes booking advisable. Food was nicely presented and well prepared. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.
Excellent food and atmosphere service was a little off but was very busy I would definitely go again
Food wad s very good and good value for the qaulity. Staff were friendly and attentive. Parking is limited. Probably wouldnt recommend for children based on a fri eve experience as i would describe it as sophisticated. Would def go back.
Some of the tastiest dishes in the local area, attentive service and pleasant pub atmosphere.
Lovely food, will be back. Friendly staff. Looking forward to a return trip
They serve a very good Sunday lunch, good wine and beer, very friendly
Visited on a Saturday evening. Of our four dishes, the two fish dishes were well cooked, however both the pheasant dishes were over cooked. One so much so it wasn't finished.
We told the waitress who said she would inform the chef however we received no offer to remove it from the bill or even an apology.
I found this very disappointing but my father did not want to make a fuss.
We won't be visiting again.
Staff could not have done any more to make us feel welcome, we have 11 guests in total. The kitchen staff stayed on later to serve us food. Everyone bent over backwards.
Would highly recommend.
Lovely area but no parking so this was quite stressful for me and my friends who i was meeting for lunch.
As ever George doesn’t disappoint. An oasis inn the Hertford sands .
Very good service, the waiter was very accommodating and the chef was very helpful when we went with a friend that has gluten/milk allergy. They were happy to make a few changes to the dish to accommodate her diet.
Very friendly staff. Would definitely go back.
Have not visited this pub for over 30 years. Went last week for dinner with friends and was very impressed with the quality of the food and the service. The pub has obviously been taken over since I was last there and is now owned by the chef. Table numbers and parking are a bit limited but well worth the visit. We will, return again for sure.
Wonderful as always, friendly service, great homemade food, these guys know what they are doing. One of the few/best independent pubs around!!
We booked here after hearing a Bob FM advertisement for a special deal. We took my dad and his partner here for Sunday dinner. The service and food was excellent. Proper home cooked food and plenty of it. Well served and presented. We will certainly visit again. The downside is trying to park.
We went for Sunday lunch and can’t fault this place. Food and atmosphere amazing. Lovely pub and fantastic food, excellently cook.
Great food and very good service. Highly rate this place.
Delicious food and good service . Would recommend for special occasions.
Lovely food great service
We were a party - Book Club Group - of 11 and had an excellent lunch with excellent service. I think it was our noise level that was at fault and hope we didn't pul off any of the other less noisy customers! If we did apologies and we much enjoyed being at George 1V
