Excellent Service, wonderful food and great setting for a Sunday lunch. Forget the rest just go to the best place.
Great food, good service, venison shank was something I had never had but will definitely have again! Thanks
One of our favourite restaurants. Visiting with friends and one had a dairy intolerance. Happy to adjust menu accordingly. Two of us asked to vary parts of the main course and they were happy to accommodate us.
Food was excellent and staff very polite and helpful.
Lovely BBQ on the Bank Holiday Weekend. Great choice, and enjoyed by all. Not your usual BBQ, well exceeding standards!!
Came for a birthday meal but despite putting this in the booking form no mention was made of this. The service was excellent and we did enjoy the food. However the portion of Hake was extremely small, that said, it was beautifully cooked
A little disappointing to be honest. We ordered a glass of Picpoul at over £9.00 a glass. It was served tepid. When we complained the young waiter asked us if we'd like some ice cubes in it. This was eventually changed for a properly chilled glass of Pinot, which was fine, but not quite the same. To add insult to injury the Picpoul was on our bill even though we had returned it virtually untouched. Food was ok with the exception of the creamed mash, which was rather gloopy with the texture of wallpaper paste. We are unlikely to return there.
Excellent Lunch. Delicious
Another lovely meal - 4 of us had starters, mains and desserts. Staff are all very nice and the food is far beyond the normal local pub grub.
The setting is tranquil and the food is great. Will return again. And again.
The staff could not have done more for us during our whole visit. At no time did we feel either neglected or rushed. The desserts were all outstanding but I have to say the quality of the meat in both main choices was not the best. The lamb cutlets were chewy as was the pork. And I was really disappointed, albeit it was not on the menu, that having chosen pork, there was no crackling at all. The fish (sardines) chosen by two of our party: one for starters & one for main, were lovely. Charred, cooked perfectly & served with a fresh tomato accompaniment which was a fantastic match. Overall I would try George IV again as I don’t want to make a final decision on one visit only.
Again, your staff were outstanding: pleasant, helpful & a credit to themselves.
The food was lovely, service friendly and helpful. We ate outside as it was very warm inside and the table was fine. The only downside was that there were three smokers at the next table.
The most delicious food with knowledgeable, honest service from front of house. Absolutely recommend!
We had a lovely meal with friends in the restaurant. The food was really good Avery well presented. We had a lovely young lady serving us but there was also a man who didn’t smile at all and was slightly officious, albeit very professional.
The pub is in the countryside in a lovely setting but there is no car parking so you have to park on quite narrow country lanes.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. They used fresh ingredients that are locally sourced and it shows in the quality of the food
A lovely, small pub with excellent dining.
This was our second visit and will definitely return again. Great food, wine and ambience.
Lovely food very good service waiter could have been more cheerful though. 8/10 overall.
We were a party of 3 and ordered the Sunday roast the meal was quite poor with the meat being fatty to the point my husband only ate a small amount, also it was under cooked (not good for pork!) we would have complained but we’re with a friend and he would have felt embarrassed, when but be going there again!!!
Very very good Sunday lunch
Really pleased with all aspects of dining experience. Been before but they have upped their service.
Wonderful food and wine. Very pleasant staff, lovely atmosphere.
It was very very busy and staff could not cope needed far more staff and toilets need updating
The meal was superb - my guest said that his meal was very very good. The music was a little too loud for our taste and interrupted our conversation. No real need for any music actually
Before I give this an overall five star rating I would like to try the evening menu. The Sunday roast was delicious and nicely served and plenty of it. My only moan would be that drinks are quite expensive for a country pub.
Excellent Sunday roast - generous portions, crispy roast potatoes, freshly cooked veg including superb cauliflower cheese; all cooked to perfection and served promptly by attentive staff. Would highly recommend. Do go early though as parking limited.
Previous visit have been really good. This time had to wait 20 minutes o get a drink. The snacking started was lovely, The main was not good. Had haddock, mushy peas and chips. Hardly any fish all batter smattering of mushy peas. We went two weeks ago and came back special for the triple cooked chips which were delicious. This time there was brown marks on the chips and hardly cooked nothing like the chips we had preciously. Coffee was lovely.
The crew at the George 4 never fail . In fact the name should be upgraded to George 6
Thanks once again
Food was lovely but the the Shin Beef main was very small & would have liked a heads up as would have ordered a side or 2 if I'd known.
We love George IV the food is usually spectacular. However this was a Father’s day fixed price 3 course offering. The food was ok the service was a bit variable. No toilet roll or hand towels in the ladies. I think they struggled with the volume of people. Such a shame as we’ve had some fabulous meals here. Will try again on a non fixed menu occasion.
We had a lovely Fathers Day lunch. The menu was nicely short and everything was tempting. The food was excellent. The staff were inexperienced but sweet and eager. Am looking forward to going again. Their roasts are enormous by the way.
We had a terrible meal for Father’s Day! We came with my dad, my husband, my mum and one year old son. Starters were fine. Main courses arrived and my husband and dad were given the wrong beef to each other by the waitress. My husband even asked if it was the right way around and she said yes but after further inspection we realised it wasn’t. My dad had already started eating most of his but my husband wasn’t happy with his because it was very over cooked and tasted like leather so he sent it back. We then waited for a new plate of meat to be sent out but then they didn’t bring any vegetables and we had no more on the table as he had already put them on his previous plate. We then waited for about 20 minutes until my husband got fed up and handed the by now cold plate of food back. So in the end my husband ended up leaving with out having eaten! The manager behind the bar didn’t even come over once to apologise! We will not be returning and I will definitely not be recommending to anyone!
Always good food and good service.
I really wonderful lunch celebrating Father’s Day a day early. Great service, lovely food. Will definitely return soon.
Lovely food and wine would recommend. The food was lovely and value for money’s
Local pub with exceptional food. A hidden gem
A lovely meal with great service. Good choice of food.
Amazing little place with great food and staff
Second visit to George IV (must go more) as the food had been exceptional on both occassions. Young staff who although charming were forgetable about drink orders and menus. Service was also slowish although totally accepting of the difficulty of appropraitly manning a country Pub/Restaurant. The bar area lacked some subtle lighting that would make it feel warmer and empty display shelves don't help But for a few minor issues, George IV would be 5 stars. Will return for sure.
It’s a lovely place but very expensive for what you get. Beef dish came with no sides.
THE SERVICE WAS OK BUT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ASK FOR SALT AND PEPPER THEY SHOULD BE ON EACH TABLE ALSO MINT SAUCE IF YOU ASK FOR ROAST LAMB AND APPLE SAUCE WITH PORK SHOULD BE ON THE TABLE. THE LARGE YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS ARE A BIT DRY WITHOUT A JUG OF GRAVY TO POUR INTO THEM. WE DID NOT THINK SERVING A WING OF SKATE TAKEN OFF THE BONE IMPROVED THE DISH BUT THAT IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE.
George 4 lived up to our recent experience in being the best reasonably-priced, high-quality eating place in our area. a wonderful find
Lovely place, tucked away in the beautiful countryside. Food is lovely!!!
