Great menu, crab risotto and venison delicious , will visit again
Excellent food - a wide choice - and very good service from very attentive staff.
Lovely surroundings, very nice restaurant and bar area.
Another lovely meal at The George IV. Looking forward to going back.
We had a table for 5 for sunday lunch, we felt a little like we were on show as the table was right in the middle of the room, & seemed like it was an extra table placed there, but once seated forgot about it. There wasnt much chair room behind each side though.
Unfortunately there was an extremely loud group of 12 right next to us, which was a bit annoying as it kind of meant we couldn't hear our own conversation, plus their language at such volume was a bit choice given that there were children in the restaurant, including my own. So overall surrounding and ambiance could have been better.
The food was however beautiful, and all 5 of us enjoyed that. The waiter on the day friendly & helpful, waitress however didnt manage to even crack a hint of a smile sadly.
This place is a hidden gem. London fine dining at local prices in a great pub - love it.
Wonderful pub and the food was excellent, I would definitely recommend it. Parking though is very limited.
Fast and efficient service with good food albeit price for a glass of wine is extreme
Very helpful staff, good food although portions could have been bigger. We will definitely return.
lovely food, but i would have liked more vegetables to be shared among the roasts- there was just one for two people, and we were the other two and our fish dish was gasping for a bit more veg. Of course i could have asked, and I am sure we would have got it, but in the end I didnt!
The puddings were out of this world and the blackberry in the crumble full of fresh flavour.
Excellent food and service — really lovely place tucked away in a nice setting
Fabulous lunch at this tucked away dining pub. Exceptional menu lived up to billing in the execution of all dishes; looked fantastic and tasted wonderful too. Friendly and knowledgeable staff made us feel very welcome and we were not hurried in the slightest, making for a very relaxed lunch. Would definitely recommend and is on our "return" list especially to taste the wonderful smoked haddock scotch egg again.
We were given such good reviews about this place but we were so disappointed with our choice to come here for Sunday lunch.
I personally think £21.50 for 2 courses on a Sunday is quite expensive, and even more so based on what we were served. We both had the beef (£2.50 supplement each) and they gave us 2 small slithers of beef each, both slices with big bits of fat on them.
The sides came up piping hot but the main plate with meat, gravy and Yorkshire was not warm at all.
People next to us were charged for extra gravy.
They sat us in the middle of the restaurant which felt weird for a table of 2.
Overall wasn’t happy with this country pub and won’t be going back!
Maintains its usual high reputation . Especially recommended the crab risotto starter and shepherds pie , made with real shepherds!
Everything fine, but I do object to a service charge being added to the bill.
Lovely food. Nice staff. Restaurant area was a tad soul less and somewhat drab!
Lovely food and great service. Parking can be a problem but worth it for such a lovely pub.
The George IV was a great location and having eaten there before I was confident it would be good. It was for a special occasion for my family and they didn’t disappoint in any way. Food was excellent as I’d know it to be and the rest of my family were very impressed. Service was attentive without being pushy and it was a great pleasure to celebrate a special occasion there.
As ever the George standards are a highlight . Recommended
Excellent Service, wonderful food and great setting for a Sunday lunch. Forget the rest just go to the best place.
Great food, good service, venison shank was something I had never had but will definitely have again! Thanks
One of our favourite restaurants. Visiting with friends and one had a dairy intolerance. Happy to adjust menu accordingly. Two of us asked to vary parts of the main course and they were happy to accommodate us.
Food was excellent and staff very polite and helpful.
Lovely BBQ on the Bank Holiday Weekend. Great choice, and enjoyed by all. Not your usual BBQ, well exceeding standards!!
Came for a birthday meal but despite putting this in the booking form no mention was made of this. The service was excellent and we did enjoy the food. However the portion of Hake was extremely small, that said, it was beautifully cooked
A little disappointing to be honest. We ordered a glass of Picpoul at over £9.00 a glass. It was served tepid. When we complained the young waiter asked us if we'd like some ice cubes in it. This was eventually changed for a properly chilled glass of Pinot, which was fine, but not quite the same. To add insult to injury the Picpoul was on our bill even though we had returned it virtually untouched. Food was ok with the exception of the creamed mash, which was rather gloopy with the texture of wallpaper paste. We are unlikely to return there.
Excellent Lunch. Delicious
Another lovely meal - 4 of us had starters, mains and desserts. Staff are all very nice and the food is far beyond the normal local pub grub.
The setting is tranquil and the food is great. Will return again. And again.
The staff could not have done more for us during our whole visit. At no time did we feel either neglected or rushed. The desserts were all outstanding but I have to say the quality of the meat in both main choices was not the best. The lamb cutlets were chewy as was the pork. And I was really disappointed, albeit it was not on the menu, that having chosen pork, there was no crackling at all. The fish (sardines) chosen by two of our party: one for starters & one for main, were lovely. Charred, cooked perfectly & served with a fresh tomato accompaniment which was a fantastic match. Overall I would try George IV again as I don’t want to make a final decision on one visit only.
Again, your staff were outstanding: pleasant, helpful & a credit to themselves.
The food was lovely, service friendly and helpful. We ate outside as it was very warm inside and the table was fine. The only downside was that there were three smokers at the next table.
The most delicious food with knowledgeable, honest service from front of house. Absolutely recommend!
We had a lovely meal with friends in the restaurant. The food was really good Avery well presented. We had a lovely young lady serving us but there was also a man who didn’t smile at all and was slightly officious, albeit very professional.
The pub is in the countryside in a lovely setting but there is no car parking so you have to park on quite narrow country lanes.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. They used fresh ingredients that are locally sourced and it shows in the quality of the food
A lovely, small pub with excellent dining.
This was our second visit and will definitely return again. Great food, wine and ambience.
Lovely food very good service waiter could have been more cheerful though. 8/10 overall.
We were a party of 3 and ordered the Sunday roast the meal was quite poor with the meat being fatty to the point my husband only ate a small amount, also it was under cooked (not good for pork!) we would have complained but we’re with a friend and he would have felt embarrassed, when but be going there again!!!
Very very good Sunday lunch
Really pleased with all aspects of dining experience. Been before but they have upped their service.
Wonderful food and wine. Very pleasant staff, lovely atmosphere.
It was very very busy and staff could not cope needed far more staff and toilets need updating
The meal was superb - my guest said that his meal was very very good. The music was a little too loud for our taste and interrupted our conversation. No real need for any music actually
Before I give this an overall five star rating I would like to try the evening menu. The Sunday roast was delicious and nicely served and plenty of it. My only moan would be that drinks are quite expensive for a country pub.
