George IV Beef Burger
Cheddar, Relish, Marinated Iceberg & Triple Cooked Chips
Marinated Halloumi Fries & Garlic Aioli
Food has been better in the past. A couple of us had chops and weren't that great.
Also one of us is vegetarian and very limited menu and uninspiring.
Service good, Covid measures very well adhered to.
Great place to eat. Covid security spot on...lovely ambiance and great service, food great too. Also the best pint of Guinness this side of the Irish Sea. Well done
Low key anniversary Sunday lunch, with more limited menu but tasty, well cooked and well-presented food. Sat outside on a sunny day. All anti-virus measures in place. Very enjoyable.
Fab meal and great service on Saturday evening will definitely be returning. 2 of us had goats cheese mousse then the venison and our husband's had sardines followed by pork chops absolutely delicious thoroughly recommend
This is only the second time we've visited the George IV but it won't be the last.
The service from the minute you approach the place is excellent and in these times of extra precautions it was welcoming to see the staff wearing masks all the time, it was a stark contrast to some of the places we have seen. It certainly offers a reassurance. Not only that but the staff were so polite and very friendly.
The food was outstanding, it's as simple as that.
Outstanding food. Very impressed. Great service. Overall a fine meal.
Shame about the welcome. We arrived at 5.45 for a 6pm booking. We stood outside until a guy came out and told us “We are not open until 6 and then promptly locked and bolted the day. The weather was nice so we sat outside and waited until 6pm. Just seemed a little abrupt. Music was a mixture of French classic and cabaret which went on too long and fairly loud. Food was good, menu was limited but varied. Typical pub setting but food not typical pub food which was nice. So is it a pub or a restaurant? Followed Covid restrictions well, unlike some venues regrettably.
George IV is a great gastropub for those looking for somewhere just off the beaten track, with a great menu (particularly if you like meat) and very friendly hosts and staff.
The menu may offer fewer choices than in pre-pandemic days, but he quality of what is on offer is excellent - as is the presentation of the dishes. There are meat, fish and veggie options. Service is friendly and Covid aware. A thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Unfortunately outside tables have both smokers and non smokers seated next to each other. Our food arrived just as the table behind started smoking and they continued to do so throughout lunch. This is unacceptable in 2020 especially when the Government advise is to separate smokers for non smokers. we were not told when we booked that we would be sitting next to smokers....
Very helpful friendly staff. Fairly meat based menu might not suit all.
As always food quality and service very good. Menu options seemed a bit limited, this could be down to the situation with Covid 19. Portions on the mains seemed a bit small but good excuse to have a dessert
Overall a good meal.
Had booked for lunch last Friday. Sat outside, weather was lovely and the food was excellent.
We were served quickly and didn't wait long for the food to arrive either but we weren't rushed in any way.
The staff is pleasant and always courteous. I have been several times and will definitely be returning.
Delicious food and good service. Shame it was mostly empty though
The George continues to delight . Thanks to all and keep thriving
Easy to book online, was greeted at the door by manager and escorted to our table.
Great service with delicious food ( had a great local beer, can’t remember name)
Uncomplicated menu, really good food and great service.
Interesting menu obviously put together by someone with excellent cooking experience
Food well presented and tasty
Good wines by the glass list
The food that we had was lovely but three things were off the already slightly limited menu. Service was very good and ambience great considering covid protocols.
Nice pub, though not all food on the menu available. Dishes described in a complicated manner, rather small servings.
Was very impressed when I ate there on a Sunday. Eating on the Bank Holiday Monday, the waiting staff were very stretched, the portion sizes were on the small side and my meal wasn't hot. It won't put me off going back, as, on the whole, the food and experience is good and
location is fantastic.
We were disappointed that we had booked for an advertised bar-b-q which they cancelled a few days prior to our booking. We didn’t receive any notification of the change which we would have liked. So our marks out of 5 for communication was 0. There wasn’t a lot of choice but to order from the menu provided.
Limited menu makes a less enjoyable experience. However the food was very good. The staff were stretched due to it being an Eat Out to Help Out day.
Great food and friendly staff. Just get a taxi there on a Sunday.
This is my new go to place. Perfect for ladies who lunch, also couples.
Every element was delicious. They have a reasonable selection of wines by the glass.
The staff were engaging and informative about the menu.
In daylight you can walk from St Margarets train station or Van Hages bus stop.
Went here for my wife’s birthday. We just went for the regular menu as opposed to the a la Carte choice but the food came out quickly and was great. Hugo our waiter was also excellent will definitely go back.
Clean and well organised from a CV19 perspective. Menu and specials menu gave a good choice and not as limited as some other similar local restaurants.
We recently moved to the area and have been looking to try this restaurant for a while. We dined on the 'eat out to help out deal' as the menu looked expensive so this was a way for us to try. The pub and dining areas and lovely as is the garden. The food is amazing however the portions a little small for the price. However I would recommend the restaurant and we will return
Always great food and excellent service - thank you to James and the team
Great service. However quality of food for the price paid was not worth it.
Having small appetites we were very happy to see a fillet steak just 120gms on the menu. Came with rocket salad and thick crunchy chips. Just right for a lunch time meal.
Lovely food, great menu although would be nice to have a couple more vegetarian options.
Great service. Am looking forward to returning.
We very much enjoyed our lunch with you and all the social distancing and safety measures were perfectly in place. The waiter who served us was just right and the food excellent - though the portions were rather on the small side, especially my husband's hake order, which was really very small with little accompaniment for the price apart from a bowl of rocket with a bit of sliced cheese flakes on top to share with me. My fillet steak was beautifully cooked and delicious and small as it should be, but there was nothing of substance with it and we were both glad of the bowl of chips which I ordered as a side! Of course we were "eat out to help out" customers so benefitted from the £10 off per person! The music is a bit loud and thumpy which we personally could have done without. All that said we enjoyed a lovely glass of Prosecco on our Wedding Anniversary.
I have visited the George several times over the last 10 years and I am pleased that even with the change of ownership during this period, the George has kept it's high standard of customer service and quality food. It has a lovely village atmosphere and is a real hidden gem.
Amazing food and excellent service. Followed the advice of the waiting staff and ordered a side as the portions are smaller, but well worth it as the food is delicious. Very good social distancing procedures in place and felt very safe.
As always service and food were amazing. The atmosphere is so warm and friendly. Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Went for an anniversary lunch, had booked outdoors but sudden downpour meant that was a no no. Moved to a table inside with no hassle, everything we had was excellent - could have eaten everything on the specials, but make sure you have the Short Rib if it’s on. Gr8 choice of Gins, only one of the hand pumps was on but that was excellent too
This is a beautiful setting for eating alfresco . The service is outstanding and the menu is varied with a range of options to suit everyone . We particularly recommend the Sunday roast .
Giv has been our go to place for a number of years and never fails to please. Maybe for some a little on the expensive side for the portion size but for others that is not as important as the food which chef executes is truly delightful of most plates offered on his menu. They have a pleasant outside space if you are lucky enough to get a table especially in the evening sun as Giv is situated at the end of a quiet road however get an early reservation as the parking can be problematic. However these are little negatives in comparison to the food service and experience at this wonderful gastro pub. A must try!
Always excellent. Lobster to die for!
