Before I give this an overall five star rating I would like to try the evening menu. The Sunday roast was delicious and nicely served and plenty of it. My only moan would be that drinks are quite expensive for a country pub.
Previous visit have been really good. This time had to wait 20 minutes o get a drink. The snacking started was lovely, The main was not good. Had haddock, mushy peas and chips. Hardly any fish all batter smattering of mushy peas. We went two weeks ago and came back special for the triple cooked chips which were delicious. This time there was brown marks on the chips and hardly cooked nothing like the chips we had preciously. Coffee was lovely.
The crew at the George 4 never fail . In fact the name should be upgraded to George 6
Thanks once again
Food was lovely but the the Shin Beef main was very small & would have liked a heads up as would have ordered a side or 2 if I'd known.
We love George IV the food is usually spectacular. However this was a Father’s day fixed price 3 course offering. The food was ok the service was a bit variable. No toilet roll or hand towels in the ladies. I think they struggled with the volume of people. Such a shame as we’ve had some fabulous meals here. Will try again on a non fixed menu occasion.
We had a lovely Fathers Day lunch. The menu was nicely short and everything was tempting. The food was excellent. The staff were inexperienced but sweet and eager. Am looking forward to going again. Their roasts are enormous by the way.
We had a terrible meal for Father’s Day! We came with my dad, my husband, my mum and one year old son. Starters were fine. Main courses arrived and my husband and dad were given the wrong beef to each other by the waitress. My husband even asked if it was the right way around and she said yes but after further inspection we realised it wasn’t. My dad had already started eating most of his but my husband wasn’t happy with his because it was very over cooked and tasted like leather so he sent it back. We then waited for a new plate of meat to be sent out but then they didn’t bring any vegetables and we had no more on the table as he had already put them on his previous plate. We then waited for about 20 minutes until my husband got fed up and handed the by now cold plate of food back. So in the end my husband ended up leaving with out having eaten! The manager behind the bar didn’t even come over once to apologise! We will not be returning and I will definitely not be recommending to anyone!
Always good food and good service.
I really wonderful lunch celebrating Father’s Day a day early. Great service, lovely food. Will definitely return soon.
Lovely food and wine would recommend. The food was lovely and value for money’s
Local pub with exceptional food. A hidden gem
A lovely meal with great service. Good choice of food.
Amazing little place with great food and staff
Second visit to George IV (must go more) as the food had been exceptional on both occassions. Young staff who although charming were forgetable about drink orders and menus. Service was also slowish although totally accepting of the difficulty of appropraitly manning a country Pub/Restaurant. The bar area lacked some subtle lighting that would make it feel warmer and empty display shelves don't help But for a few minor issues, George IV would be 5 stars. Will return for sure.
It’s a lovely place but very expensive for what you get. Beef dish came with no sides.
THE SERVICE WAS OK BUT YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO ASK FOR SALT AND PEPPER THEY SHOULD BE ON EACH TABLE ALSO MINT SAUCE IF YOU ASK FOR ROAST LAMB AND APPLE SAUCE WITH PORK SHOULD BE ON THE TABLE. THE LARGE YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS ARE A BIT DRY WITHOUT A JUG OF GRAVY TO POUR INTO THEM. WE DID NOT THINK SERVING A WING OF SKATE TAKEN OFF THE BONE IMPROVED THE DISH BUT THAT IS A PERSONAL PREFERENCE.
George 4 lived up to our recent experience in being the best reasonably-priced, high-quality eating place in our area. a wonderful find
Lovely place, tucked away in the beautiful countryside. Food is lovely!!!
Great food, great service. Highly recommend a visit to George 4th.
Lovely Sunday lunch would highly recommend. Dining room was good staff excellent food was lovely and quite large portions. Have visited restaurant quite a few times and always enjoyed.
Excellent food, beautifully presented. Great for a special night out
Really lovely food. Excellent service. One of our party had various food intolerances and they catered for her really well.
Lovely Sunday roast really delicious, freshly cooked. You do pay a bit more here, but you are getting amazing quality. Only downside I had a double gin and fever tree tonic which I though was really over priced £5.90/per shot of gin and £1.80 for a bottle of tonic £13.60!!! Very pricey for a village pub (west end prices!)
Not a good experience this time. Had run out of all beef. Pork more than “pink” rather undercooked for most diners.
2nd visit where the pub was underperforming sadly.
Very accommodating for two elderly ladies with small appetites. Speed of service was just right, and food choice excellent
An interesting and varied menu with a delicious vegan option. Efficient and friendly service, will definitely recommend to friends and visit again.
Excellent food and service, highly recommend the George 1V. It was mid week and quite quiet I understand that week ends are very busy.
Gorgeous food and lovely service. The fish and chips and the soufflé was outstanding.
The gastro pub goes from strength to strength . Food and wine are a tour de force and whilst everyone is doing artisan gins , the George continues to surprise
Well done all !
Hadn't been for a while so thought would try. Very quiet throughout lunch with hardly anyone else in. My food was well cooked, really tasty, but the portions were small and the price was high. Unfortunately I was with a vegetarian and there was really very little choice on the menu. The only options available included foods she did not like. Having told the waitress this, there was absolutely no attempt to make any other suggestions and come up with any alternatives, even using items already on the menu from other dishes. She did offer to remove a couple of ingredients from one dish, but that meant literally leaving gnocchi without anything else. My friend ended up with a tiny side portion for her lunch. It was really very obvious and embarrassing. The puddings were tasty but, again, tiny portions especially as they were not cheap. My friend had to go elsewhere and buy a sandwich just to get something to eat. The staff didn't seem to care at all. They also didn't even bring any milk for tea and, after waiting and not catching their eye, I had to go and ask. It is not as though they were busy. Don't think I would go again.
As we entered the bar, it was a bit messy and chaotic, but the restaurant area around the back is more organised. Food was very good, staff excellent.
Food was lovely, however we were not shown the menu with the specials on. We overheard another table ordering & realised we hadn’t seen any of the dishes they were asking for. This was a shame as one of our party is huge carnivore & we missed out on some delicious sounding steaks.
The banana jam with the banana soufflé was delicious!
Great food in small gastro pub. Had ale pie which was awesome.
Nice place for a good meal. Menu / food wasn't quite as good as previous visits.
I do like my Sunday roast's and this one was a real treat. The George lV was tucked down a little country lane trying hard not to be found, very pleased we did. Excellent two course meal my wife and l had. See you again soon.
The pub itself was lovely and the starters were very nice however the roast dinner was very poor. I had a pork chop and thought it was going to be part of a joint so was very tough. The potatoes were hard and not cooked properly. For that price I expected a much better roast but it was more on par with a Wetherspoons if not worse
Very welcoming with Fabulous service and fabulous food
Very pleasant lunch. Food was excellent, would have given 5 stars but my main course was a little cold. Service just right.
Will deffinately visit again.
I wouldn’t go back. Probably one of worst Sunday lunches I’ve had.
Delicious food and drinks served by friendly staff in a very convivial atmosphere. Our friends were very impressed too.
